The evaluation of pathobiome strains should be conducted at the strain level, involving the identification of the functional genes, while considering the impact of ecological niche and drug interactions. The safety, efficacy, and quality management of live biotherapeutic products (LBPs), especially pathobiome strains, have certain peculiarities. Promising development methods include the recombinant LBP and active metabolites.

Genes associated with endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS) and mitophagy can be conducive to predicting solid tumour prognosis. The authors aimed to develop a prognosis prediction model for these genes in lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD). Relevant gene expression and clinical information were collected from public databases including Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) and The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA). A total of 265 differentially expressed genes was finally selected (71 up-regulated and 194 downregulated) in the LUAD dataset. Among these, 15 candidate ERS and mitophagy genes (ATG12, CSNK2A1, MAP1LC3A, MAP1LC3B, MFN2, PGAM5, PINK1, RPS27A, SQSTM1, SRC, UBA52, UBB, UBC, ULK1, and VDAC1) might be critical to LUAD based on the expression analysis after crossing with the ERS and mitochondrial autophagy genes. The prediction model demonstrated the ability to effectively predict the 5-, 3-, and 1-year prognoses of LUAD patients in both GEO and TCGA databases. Moreover, high VDAC1 expression was associated with poor overall survival in LUAD (p < 0.001), suggesting it might be a critical gene for LUAD prognosis prediction. Overall, the prognosis model based on ERS and mitophagy genes in LUAD can be useful for evaluating the prognosis of patients with LUAD, and VDAC1 may serve as a promising biomarker for LUAD prognosis.

Bladder cancer (BC) poses high morbidity and mortality, with urinary exosomal microRNA (miR)-21 showing potential value in its diagnosis and prognosis, and we probed its specific role. We prospectively selected 116 BC patients and 116 healthy volunteers as the BC and control groups, respectively. BC urinary exosomal miR-146a-5p, miR-93-5p, miR-663b, miR-21, and miR-4454 relative expression levels were assessed. The correlations between clinical indexes and urinary exosomal miR-21, prognostic value of miR-21, and diagnostic value of the five candidate miRNAs, urine cytology, and miRNA joint diagnostic panel for BC and urinary exosomal miR-21, miR-4454, and urine cytology for Ta-T1 and T2-T4 stage BC were analyzed. Urinary exosomal miR-146a-5p, miR-93-5p, miR-663b, miR-21, and miR-4454 were highly expressed in BC patients. miR-146a-5p, miR-93-5p, miR-663b, miR-21, miR-4454, miRNA combined diagnostic panel, and urine cytology had certain diagnostic value for BC, with miR-21, miR-4454, and miRNA co-diagnostic panel showing the highest diagnostic value. Collectively, urinary exosomal miR-21 was closely related to Tumor-Node-Metastasis staging and grading in BC patients. Urinary exosomal miR-21 had high diagnostic value for BC and Ta-T1 and T2-T4 stage BC, and had high predictive value for BC poor prognosis, providing an effective indicator for the occurrence, development, and prognostic assessment of BC.

Herein, we investigate the product type and distribution during the synthesis of azido-functionalized larger polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes (POSSs) using 3-chloropropyl- and chloromethyldimethylsilylethyl-functionalized T8, T10, and T12 POSSs as precursors. Our findings indicate that cage rearrangement occurs for the 3-chloropropyl-functionalized POSS cages with a stability order of T12 > T10 > T8, while the chloromethyldimethylsilylethyl-functionalized POSS cages remain structurally intact after the nucleophilic substitution.

A multi-slit very small angle neutron scattering (MS-VSANS) instrument has been finally accepted at the China Spallation Neutron Source (CSNS). It is the first spallation neutron source based VSANS instrument. MS-VSANS has a good signal-to-noise ratio and can cover a wide scattering vector magnitude range from 0.00028 to 1.4 Å-1. In its primary flight path, a combined curved multichannel beam bender and sections of rotary exchange drums are installed to minimize the background downstream of the instrument. An exchangeable multi-slit beam focusing system is integrated into the primary flight path, enabling access to a minimum scattering vector magnitude of 0.00028 Å-1. MS-VSANS has three modes, namely conventional SANS, polarizing SANS and VSANS modes. In the SANS mode, three motorized high-efficiency 3He tube detectors inside the detector tank cover scattering angles from 0.12 to 35° simultaneously. In the polarizing SANS mode, a double-V cavity provides highly polarized neutrons and a high-efficiency 3He polarization analyser allows full polarization analysis. In the VSANS mode, an innovative high-resolution gas electron multiplier detector covers scattering angles from 0.016 to 0.447°. The absolute scattering intensities of a selection of standard samples are obtained using the direct-beam technique; the effectiveness of this method is verified by testing the standard samples and comparing the results with those from a benchmark instrument. The MS-VSANS instrument is designed to be flexible and versatile and all the design goals have been achieved.

Bone infarction has a low incidence in clinical practice and mostly occurs in the metaphysis and diaphysis.Few studies report the advanced imaging technique for bone infarction.Here we reported the fast field echo resembling a CT using restricted echo-spacing and calcium-suppressed spectral CT imaging for a case of multifocal bone infarcts in both lower extremities,aiming to provide diagnostic experience for clinical practice.

BACKGROUND: No study has examined the association between per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) exposure and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) risk. This study aims to explore this relationship. METHODS: This study enrolled 4541 individuals who had available data on PFAS, COPD, and covariates from NHANES 2007-2018. Serum PFAS including perfluorohexane sulfonate (PFHxS), perfluorononanoic acid (PFNA), perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), perfluorooctane sulfonic acid (PFOS) were analyzed, because of high detective rates. Considering the skew distribution of PFAS levels, the natural logarithm-transformed PFAS (Ln-PFAS) was used. Logistic regression analysis, restricted cubic spline (RCS), and weighted quantile sum (WQS) regression were performed to explore the single, nonlinear, and mixed effects. A mediating analysis was used to evaluate the mediated effects of albumin. RESULTS: Individuals with COPD had higher levels of PFHxS, PFNA, PFOA, and PFOS compared to those without COPD. Ln-PFNA (OR males: 1.92, 95 % CI:1.31 to 2.80, P: <0.001; OR females: 1.07, 95 % CI: 0.81 to 1.40, P: 0.636) and ln-PFOA (OR males: 2.17, 95 % CI:1.38 to 3.41, P: <0.001; OR females: 1.49, 95 % CI: 1.08 to 2.05, P: 0.016) were associated with COPD risk especially in males. The interaction between PFNA exposure and sex on COPD risk was significant (P interaction: <0.001). The RCS curve demonstrated the nonlinear relationship between the ln-PFOA (P nonlinear:0.001), ln-PFNA (P nonlinear:0.045), and COPD risk in males. WQS analysis showed mixed PFAS exposure was correlated with COPD risk in males (OR: 1.44, 95 % CI:1.18 to 1.75, P: <0.001). Albumin mediated the relationship between PFOA and COPD (mediated proportion: -17.94 %). CONCLUSION: This study concludes PFOA and PFNA are linked to a higher COPD risk in males, and serum albumin plays a mediating role in the relationship between PFOA and COPD. Thess findings are beneficial for the prevention of COPD. Further studies are required to explore potential mechanisms.

Drug resistance in tumours has seriously hindered the therapeutic effect. Tumour drug resistance is divided into primary resistance and acquired resistance, and the recent study has found that a significant proportion of cancer cells can acquire stable drug resistance from scratch. This group of cells first enters the drug tolerance state (DT state) under drug pressure, and gradually acquires stable drug resistance through adaptive mutations in this state. Although the specific mechanisms underlying the formation of drug tolerant cells (DTCs) remain unclear, various proteins and signalling pathways have been identified as being involved in the formation of DTCs. In the current review, we summarize the characteristics, molecular mechanisms and therapeutic strategies of DTCs in detail.

Ubiquitin is a small protein that can be added onto target protein for inducing target degradation, thereby modulating the activity and stability of protein. Relatively, deubiquitinases (DUBs), a class catalase that can remove ubiquitin from substrate protein, provide a positive regulation of the protein amount at transcription level, post-translational modification, protein interaction, etc. The reversible and dynamic ubiquitination-deubiquitination process plays an essential role in maintaining protein homeostasis, which is critical to almost all the biological processes. Therefore, the metabolic dysregulation of deubiquitinases often lead to serious consequences, including the growth and metastasis of tumors. Accordingly, deubiquitinases can be served as key drug targets for the treatment of tumors. The small molecule inhibitors targeting deubiquitinases has become one of the hot spots of anti-tumor drug research areas. This review concentrated on the function and mechanism of deubiquitinase system in the proliferation, apoptosis, metastasis and autophagy of tumor cells. The research status of small molecule inhibitors of specific deubiquitinases in tumor treatment is introduced, aiming to provide reference for the development of clinical targeted drugs.

Bioleaching is a promising route for electrolytic manganese (Mn) residue (EMR) reutilization due to being eco-friendly and cost-effective. However, microbes with high bioleaching efficiency are scarce. This work aimed to isolate, screen, and characterize a novel fungal strain with high Mn-bioleaching efficiency from EMR, and study the kinetics and mechanism. The novel Penicillium oxalicum strain Z6-5-1 was found to selectively bioleach Mn from EMR. A maximum Mn2+ recovery of 93.3 % was achieved after 7 days and was mainly dependent upon acidolysis of the bio-organic acids, specifically gluconic acid and oxalic acid, as well as mycelial biosorption. This efficiency was the highest reported in the literature for a fungus over such a short time. EMR strongly induced P. oxalicum to produce gluconic acid and oxalic acid. The novel transcription factor PoxCxrE of P. oxalicum controlled the production of bio-organic acids by regulating the expression of rate-limiting enzyme genes involved in the biosynthesis of bio-organic acids. Scanning electron microscopy, laser particle size analysis, X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy were employed to analyze EMR changes after bioleaching. This study provides an alternative fungal resource for Mn-bioleaching of EMR, and a novel target for metabiotic engineering to improve bio-organic acid production.

According to the serious problem of sulfur dioxide pollution, montmorillonite is one of the effective ways in gas pollution control because of its excellent absorption properties. One of the fundamental questions is to fully understand sulfur dioxide absorption mechanism of montmorillonite. In this study, using the first-principle methods, we studied the adsorption characteristics of Ca-montmorillonite in the presence of [Formula: see text]. The adsorption energy and elasticity constants as a function of the adsorption capacity were also studied. The calculated results show that bridge site is the most stable adsorption site for [Formula: see text] with the adsorption energy of - 140 meV. As adsorbent, Ca-montmorillonite is a clay with layer-structure, most of bond lengths(such as Al-O, Mg-O, Si-O, and H-O) does not obviously change. As adsorbed gas, the O-S-O bond angle of adsorbed [Formula: see text] change from [Formula: see text] to [Formula: see text]. The volume and adsorption energies of Ca-montmorillonite almost increase linearly with increasing [Formula: see text] adsorption. By calculating the montmorillonite elasticity constants under different adsorption capacity, we found that the elasticity constant C33 which perpendicular to the crystal face, with the maximum changes from 450 to 326 GPa. In addition, Young's modulus,bulk modulus and shear modulus significantly decrease with the increasing adsorption. The calculated results will not only help to understand the physical and chemical of montmorillonite but may also provide theoretical guidance for dealing with the problem of gas pollution.

Transparent functional coatings with glass-like hardness and polymer-like flexibility are highly desirable for flexible and foldable displays. Although several coatings have been developed toward this goal, achieving a functional coating with 9H pencil hardness and extremely low bending radius of curvature (rc) remains a great challenge due to the inherent conflict between hardness and flexibility. To overcome this trade-off, a facile strategy is developed herein. The coating is an organic-inorganic hybrid nanocomposite that is prepared from thiol-acrylate polymerization of acrylo polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane and multifunctional thiols. The former provides the desired hardness, while the latter affords high flexibility and the maximum level of chemical bonding for organic-inorganic phases. Because of the good miscibility and varied functionality of monomers, we are able to manipulate the composition and internal structure of coating systematically, endowing it with high transparency (98%, 550 nm), super hardness (9H), excellent low modulus (1.85 GPa, the most flexible one to date), and the ability to withstand steel wool's abrasion and repeated bending (rc = 0.8 mm) 10 000 times on PET film. On the final coating, both antifouling and antibacterial abilities are integrated without sacrificing its other properties after postfunctionalizing a zwitterionic layer. This work balances the hardness-flexibility conflict effectively and provides some useful protective coatings for next-generation displays.

Sanqi (Panax notoginseng (Burk.) F. H. Chen) is a precious traditional Chinese herbal medicine. During April of 2021, a root rot disease with approximate 15% incidence was observed on 2-year-old Sanqi plants in a field of Zhouning (27º12' N, 119°33' E), Fujian Province of China. The disease symptoms included severe stunting, leaf chlorosis, root rotting and necrosis, as the disease progressed, the whole plant gradually wilted and died. To recover the causal agent, symptomatic roots were excised, surface sterilized in 75% alcohol for 1.5 min, rinsed in sterilized water three times, dried, and placed on PARP selective medium (Jeffers and Martin 1986), and incubated at 20°C in dark. After 5 days, total of 26 Pythium-like isolates were obtained, and one representative isolate Py21-6 (available from the Institute of Plant Protection, Fujian Academy of Agricultural Sciences) was selected for further identification. Colonies of Py21-6 on PARP plate were white with dense, cottony, aerial, and transparent mycelia. Sporangia were terminal or intercalary, non-papillate, spherical, pyriform or ovoid, measuring 21.7 ± 2.8 × 19.3 ± 2.3 µm (n = 30). Zoospores were saucer-like, released out of sporangium after maturation, and dispersed quickly by swimming. Oogonia were spherical, terminal or occasionally intercalary. Oospores were globose, smooth and aplerotic. The dimensions of zoospores, oogonia, and oospores were 6.8 ± 0.7 µm, 21.6 ± 2.2 µm and 18.2 ± 2.7 µm (n = 30), respectively. Antheridia were bell-shaped or irregular, terminal, monoclinous, and usually one per oogonium. According to the morphological characteristics the isolate was initially identified as Pythium spp. (Van der Plaats-Niterink 1981, Yong et al. 2016). For further identification, DNA extracted from Py21-6, the cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) gene and internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region were amplified and sequenced with primers FM55/FM52R (Long et al. 2012) and ITS1 /ITS4 (White et al. 1990), respectively. BLAST analysis of 680-bp COI (OM688194) and 728-bp ITS (OM663703) sequences revealed 99.86% and 99.99% similarity to Pythium vexans in GenBank (HQ708995 [COI], GU133572 [ITS]). Therefore, the pathogen was identified as P. vexans. In order to fulfill Koch's postulates, isolate Py21-6 was grown on Martin's liquid medium (Martin 1992) for 72 h to produce a spore suspensions of 106 oospores/ml, and the pathogenicity test was conducted by root-dip method. Three groups of 2-year-old Sanqi (15 plants per group) with root soaked for 20 min in oospore suspension were used for pathogenicity, and the other three groups (15 plants per group) with root dipped in sterilized water as control. All treated plants were replanted in (15-cm-diameter) pots (2 plants/pot) filled with mixture of sterilized soil: vermiculite: pearlite (2:1:1, v/v), maintained in greenhouse under 60% black shade cloth at 20 to 26°C with 80% relative humidity, and watered once every three days. After 21days, all inoculated plants showed the same symptoms observed on the original diseased plants in the field, whereas, the control plants remained symptomless. The same pathogen was successfully re-isolated from the inoculated plants, and identical to those of the originals based on morphological and sequence data. To our knowledge, this is the first report of P. vexans causing root rot on Sanqi in China (Farr and Rossman 2022). Root rot is one of the destructive diseases in Sanqi production, identification of the pathogen will be useful to develop effective field management strategies to control this disease.

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Atractylodes lancea (Thunb.) DC. is traditionally used as a folk medicine for treating gastrointestinal diseases in China. Nevertheless, the effect and mechanisms of its anti-inflammatory activity on dextran sodium sulfate (DSS)-induced ulcerative colitis (UC) have not yet been fully investigated. AIM OF THE STUDY: This study aimed to explore the therapeutic effect and underlying molecular mechanisms of Ethanolic Extract of Atractylodis Rhizoma (EEAR) on DSS-induced UC mice and LPS-induced RAW264.7 cells. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The EEAR was obtained and then analyzed by HPLC analysis. The protective effect of EEAR on DSS-induced UC was evaluated by weight loss, disease activity index (DAI) score, spleen index, goblet cell loss, colon length shortening, myeloperoxidase (MPO) activity and pathological changes. The level of inflammatory cytokines were detected by immunohistochemistry (IHC) and RT-PCR analysis. The expressions of the tight junction (TJ, such as ZO-1, Occludin) proteins and the target proteins in mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) and nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB) were determined by western blotting analysis. RESULTS: EEAR significantly attenuated the symptoms of UC, suppressed the colon MPO activity, and increased the goblet cell loss. In addition, EEAR could significantly increase the expression of TJs in UC mice. Meanwhile, EEAR treatment could reduce the levels of inflammatory cytokines and inhibit the phosphorylation of MAPK and NF-κB signaling pathways in UC mice and in LPS-induced RAW264.7 cells. CONCLUSION: Our results indicated that EEAR ameliorated DSS-induced UC by inhibiting the inflammatory response and maintaining the intestinal barrier function via modulation of MAPK/NF-κB pathways, thus, EEAR might be a promising therapeutic candidate for UC therapy.

The mechanisms underlying plant tolerance to boron (B) excess are far from fully understood. Here we characterized the role of the miR397-CsiLAC4/CsiLAC17 (from Citrus sinensis) module in regulation of B flow. Live-cell imaging techniques were used in localization studies. A tobacco transient expression system tested modulations of CsiLAC4 and CsiLAC17 by miR397. Transgenic Arabidopsis were generated to analyze the biological functions of CsiLAC4 and CsiLAC17. CsiLAC4's role in xylem lignification was determined by mRNA hybridization and cytochemistry. In situ B distribution was analyzed by laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry. CsiLAC4 and CsiLAC17 are predominantly localized in the apoplast of tobacco epidermal cells. Overexpression of CsiLAC4 in Arabidopsis improves the plants' tolerance to boric acid excess by triggering high-B-dependent lignification of the vascular system's cell wall and reducing free B content in roots and shoots. In Citrus, CsiLAC4 is expressed explicitly in the xylem parenchyma and is modulated by B-responsive miR397. Upregulation of CsiLAC4 in Citrus results in lignification of the xylem cell walls, restricting B flow from xylem vessels to the phloem. CsiLAC4 contributes to plant tolerance to boric acid excess via high-B-dependent lignification of cell walls, which set up a 'physical barrier' preventing B flow.

Background: The lymph node dissection for esophageal cancer is controversial. Some prediction models of lymph node metastasis (LNM) use the short diameter of lymph nodes measured by computed tomography (CT) examination as a predictor, but the size of that for judging metastasis is still controversial. However, radiomics can extract some features in tumors that cannot be obtained by naked eyes, which may have a higher value in predicting LNM. In this study, a nomogram was developed based on radiomics and clinical factors to predict left recurrent laryngeal nerve lymph node (RLNN) metastasis in patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). Methods: There were 350 patients included in this retrospective study. And the postoperative pathological results determined whether there was left RLNN metastasis. A univariate analysis was conducted of the clinical data. The least absolute shrinkage and selection operator regression analysis was conducted to filter the radiomics features extracted from CT images. The multivariate logistic regression equation was used to construct a nomogram. The area under the curve (AUC) was used to evaluate the predictive ability. Due to the small sample size, we chose to perform internal validation after the model was established by 10-fold cross-validation, Harrell's concordance index (C-index), bootstrap validation and calibration. Results: Ultimately, 3 indicators were screened out; that is, tumor location, surface volume ratio, and run-length non-uniformity. We then constructed the nomogram using these 3 indicators. The model had good accuracy and calibration performance. It has an AUC of 0.903 (95% confidence interval: 0.861-0.945), a sensitivity of 0.873, and a specificity of 0.756. Ten-fold cross-validation showed that the sensitivity and specificity of the training set were 88.08% and 75.81%, and the validation set had a sensitivity of 85.08% and a specificity of 75.49%. The Brier score was 0.074, and C-index was 0.904, which indicated good consistency between the actual and predicted results. Conclusions: A nomogram constructed based on radiomics features and clinical factors can be used to predict the metastasis of left RLNN in patients with ESCC in a non-invasive way, which provided a reference for clinicians to formulate individualized lymph node dissection plans.

BACKGROUND: Remifentanil combined with sevoflurane is a standard protocol for obstetric general anesthesia (GA). METHODS: In this study, we performed a randomized clinical trial to evaluate whether remifentanil has an effect on the median effective concentration (EC50) of sevoflurane and compare anesthetic outcomes of them in cesarean section with Supreme™ laryngeal mask airway (SLMA) under narcotrend monitoring. Ninety parturients with singleton births undergoing elective cesarean delivery (CD) with initial inhaled 1.0 minimum alveolar concentration (MAC) sevoflurane for anesthesia maintenance were assigned to three groups randomly and evenly: Group A (0.05 µg·kg-1·min-1 remifentanil combined with sevoflurane), Group B (0.1 µg·kg-1·min-1 remifentanil combined with sevoflurane), and Group C (normal saline combined with sevoflurane). Narcotrend was used to monitor the depth of anesthesia during the operation, with the level of anesthesia depth controlled within the D-E stage. The EC50 of sevoflurane was determined by Dixon's sequential method. The Narcotrend index, amount of bleeding, neonatal Apgar score, and corresponding treatment measures in the three groups were recorded. RESULTS: The results showed that the estimated EC50 of sevoflurane for obstetric GA was 0.80 MAC (95% CI: 0.63-0.95 MAC) in group A, 0.82 MAC (95% CI: 0.63-0.96 MAC) in group B, and 0.80 MAC (95% CI: 0.63-0.95 MAC) in group C. There was no statistically significant difference in the estimated EC50 of sevoflurane, time to wakefulness, Apgar score, amount of intraoperative bleeding, and postoperative bleeding within 24 hours between the three groups (all P>0.05). CONCLUSIONS: The addition of remifentanil at 0.05-0.1 µg·kg-1·min-1 did not change the EC50 of sevoflurane and anesthetic quality. The concentration of inhaled anesthetics can be minimized with Narcotrend monitoring. TRIAL REGISTRATION: Chinese Clinical Trial Registry ChiCTR2000034512.

In this study, we investigated the therapeutic effects and mechanism of atractylodin (ATL) on dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced ulcerative colitis in mice. We found that atractylodin could significantly reverse the effects of DSS-induced ulcerative colitis, such as weight loss, disease activity index score; shorten the colon length, and reverse the pathological changes in the colon of mice. Atractylodin could inhibit the activation of colonic macrophages by inhibiting the MAPK pathway and alleviate intestinal inflammation in the mouse model of ulcerative colitis. Moreover, it could protect the intestinal barrier by inhibiting the decrease of the tight junction proteins, ZO-1, occludin, and MUC2. Additionally, atractylodin could decrease the abundance of harmful bacteria and increase that of beneficial bacteria in the intestinal tract of mice, effectively improving the intestinal microecology. In an LPS-induced macrophage model, atractylodin could inhibit the MAPK pathway and expression of the inflammatory factors of macrophages. Atractylodin could also inhibit the production of lactate, which is the end product of glycolysis; inhibit the activity of GAPDH, which is an important rate-limiting enzyme in glycolysis; inhibit the malonylation of GAPDH, and, thus, inhibit the translation of TNF-α. Therefore, ours is the first study to highlight the potential of atractylodin in the treatment of ulcerative colitis and reveal its possible mechanism.

Unclear established standard of bran-fried Atractylodis Rhizoma (BFAR), a commonly used drug in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), compromised its clinical efficacy. In this study, we explored the correlation between color and near-infrared spectroscopy (NIR) feature with content of atractylodin, then established a rapid recognition model for the optimal degree of processing for BFAR preparation. The results of the Pearson analysis indicated that the color values were significantly and positively correlated with atractylodin content. The back propagation artificial neural network algorithm and cluster analysis revealed the color of different BFAR could be accurately divided into three categories; subsequently, the color range for the optimal degrees of stir-frying was established as follows: R[red value (105.79-127.25)], G[green value(75.84-89.64)], B[blue value(33.33-42.73)], L[Lightness (81.26-95.09)].Using NIR, principal component analysis (PCA), partial least squares discriminant analysis (PLS-DA), and cluster analysis, three types of BFAR were accurately identified. The prediction model of atractylodin content was established using partial least squares regression analysis. The R2 of the validation set was 0.9717 and the root mean square error was 0.026. In the color judgment model, the processing degree of 8 batches of BFAR from the market is inferior. According to the NIR judgment model, the processing degree of all samples from the market is inferior. In conclusion, the best fire degree of BFAR can be identified quickly and accurately based on our established model. It is a potential method for quality evaluation of Chinese Materia Medica processing.

Control of the shape and uniformity of colloid particles is essential for realizing their functionality in various applications. Herein, we report a facile approach for the synthesis of narrowly dispersed anisotropic microparticles with well-defined raspberry-like and golf ball-like surface patterns. First, we demonstrate that hybrid raspberry-like particles can be achieved through a one-pot polymerization method using glycidyl polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (GPOSS) and pentaerythritol tetra(3-mercaptopropionate) (PETMP) as monomers. Varying the polymerization parameters such as catalyst loading, monomer concentration, and the molar ratio of monomers, we are able to regulate the sizes and surface protrusion numbers of these raspberry-like microparticles. The formation mechanism is attributed to a competition balance between thiol-epoxy reaction and thiol-thiol coupling reaction. The former promotes rapid formation of large core particles between PETMP and GPOSS droplets (which can serve as core particles), while the latter allows for generation of surface protrusions by PETMP self-polymerization, leading to the formation of raspberry-like surface patterns. Based on the different POSS contents in the surface protrusions and cores of the raspberry-like microparticles, we demonstrate that they can be used as precursors to produce microporous silica (sub)microparticles with golf ball-like morphology via pyrolysis subsequently. Overall, this work provides a facile yet controllable approach to synthesize narrowly dispersed anisotropic microparticles with diverse surface patterns.
