RESUMEN

PURPOSE: This study aims to explore the differences in cervical degeneration between healthy people with and without cervical flexion-relaxation phenomenon (FRP) and to identify whether the disappearance of cervical FRP is related to cervical degeneration. METHODS: According to the flexion relaxation ratio (FRR), healthy subjects were divided into the normal FRP group and the abnormal FRP group. Besides, MRI was used to evaluate the degeneration of the passive subsystem (vertebral body, intervertebral disc, cervical sagittal balance, etc.) and the active subsystem (deep flexors [DEs], deep extensors [DFs], and superficial extensors [SEs]). In addition, the correlation of the FRR with the cervical degeneration score, C2-7Cobb, Borden method, relative total cross-sectional area (rTCSA), relative functional cross-sectional area (rFCSA), and fatty infiltration ratio (FIR) was analyzed. RESULTS: A total of 128 healthy subjects were divided into the normal FRP group (n=52, 40.63%) and the abnormal FRP group (n=76, 59.38%). There were significant differences between the normal FRP group and the abnormal FRP group in the cervical degeneration score (z=-6.819, P<0.001), C2-7Cobb (t=2.994, P=0.004), Borden method (t=2.811, P=0.006), and FIR of DEs (t=-4.322, P<0.001). The FRR was significantly correlated with the cervical degeneration score (r=-0.457, P<0.001), C2-7Cobb (r=0.228, P=0.010), Borden method (r=0.197, P=0.026), and FIR of DEs (r=-0.253, P=0.004). CONCLUSION: The disappearance of cervical FRP is related to cervical degeneration. A new hypothesis mechanism for FRP is proposed. The cervical FRP test is an effective and noninvasive examination for the differential diagnosis of healthy people, people with potential NSNP, and patients with NSNP.

RESUMEN

Photo enhanced oxygen evolution reaction has recently emerged as an advanced strategy with great application prospects for highly efficient energy conversion and storage. In the course of photo enhanced oxygen evolution reactions, the other works focus has predominantly centered on catalysts while inadvertently overlooking the pivotal role of photo. Consequently, this manuscript embarks upon a comprehensive review of recent advancements in photo-driven, aiming to illuminate this critical dimension. A detailed introduction to the photothermal effect, photoelectronic effect, photon-induced surface plasmon resonance, photo and heterojunction, photo-induced reversible geometric conversion, photo-induced energy barrier reduction, photo-induced chemical effect, photo-charging, and the synthesis of laser/photo-assisted catalysts, offering prospects for the development of each case is provided. A detailed introduction to the photothermal effect, photoelectronic effect, photon-induced surface plasmon resonance, photo and heterojunction, photo-induced reversible geometric conversion, photo-induced energy barrier reduction, photo-induced chemical effect, photo-charging, and the synthesis of laser/photo-assisted catalysts is provided. At the same time, the overpotential and Tafel slope of some catalysts mentioned above at 10 mA cm-2 is collected, and calculated the lifting efficiency of light on them, offering prospects for the development of each case.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: This prospective cohort study aimed to assess the influence of the number of fused segments in cervical paravertebral muscles by comparing the changes of the cervical flexion relaxation phenomenon (FRP) after single-level versus multilevel anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF). METHODS: A total of 115 patients who had undergone ACDF were retrospectively recruited and divided into a 1-level group (n = 44), a 2-level group (n = 40) and a 3- to 4-level group (n = 31). The flexion relaxation experiment was carried out 3 days preoperatively and 12 months postoperatively by surface electromyography (SEMG). Patients were examined using the neck visual analog scale, cervical Japanese Orthopedic Association score, Neck Disability Index, and C2-C7 range of motion (ROM). RESULTS: There was a significant difference in the time-related changes in flexion relaxation ratio (FRR) among the 3 study groups before and after surgery (F = 85.701; P < .001). Thirty-five patients (79.55%) with 1-level ACDF and 11 patients (27.5%) with 2-level ACDF had FRP were restored to normal at 12 months postoperatively; however, only 1 patient (3.33%) had normalized FRP after 3- to 4-level ACDF. There were significant differences in the time-related changes of the normalized SEMG root mean square values in each phase before and after surgery (P = .018, <.001, <.001, and <.001). A significant correlation was found between the changes in C2-C7 ROM and FRR in the 3 study groups (P = .007 for 1 level, P = .003 for 2 levels, and P = .036 for 3-4 levels). CONCLUSIONS: Single-level ACDF contributes to normalizing the FRP of cervical paravertebral muscles, which is not ideally recovered by 2-level ACDF. In contrast, 3- or 4-level ACDF could not normalize the cervical FRP. Our research supports the passive structure hypothesis.

RESUMEN

A growing amount of research has shown associations between sexually dimorphic vocal traits and physiological conditions related to reproductive advantage. This paper presented a review of the literature on the relationship between sexually dimorphic vocal traits and sex hormones, body size, and physique. Those physiological conditions are important in reproductive success and mate selection. Regarding sex hormones, there are associations between sex-specific hormones and sexually dimorphic vocal traits; about body size, formant frequencies are more reliable predictors of human body size than pitch/fundamental frequency; with regard to the physique, there is a possible but still controversial association between human voice and strength and combat power, while pitch is more often used as a signal of aggressive intent in conflict. Future research should consider demographic, cross-cultural, cognitive interaction, and emotional motivation influences, in order to more accurately assess the relationship between voice and physiology. Moreover, neurological studies were recommended to gain a deeper understanding of the evolutionary origins and adaptive functions of voice modulation.

RESUMEN

The electrochemical CO2 reduction reaction (ECRR) is a promising method to reduce excessive CO2 emissions and achieve a sustainable carbon cycle. Due to the high reaction kinetics and efficiency, copper-based catalysts have shown great application potential for preparing multicarbon (C2+) products. C2+ alcohols have high economic value and use-value, playing an essential role in modern industry. Therefore, we summarize the latest research progress of the ECRR to synthesize C2+ alcohols on Cu-based catalysts and discuss the state-of-the-art catalyst design strategies to improve CO2 reduction performance. Moreover, we analyzed in detail the specific reaction pathways for the conversion of CO2 to C2+ alcohols based on DFT calculations. Finally, we propose the problems and possible solutions for synthesizing C2+ alcohols with copper-based catalysts. We hope that this review can provide ideas for devising ECRR catalysts for C2+ alcohols.

RESUMEN

Novel single-atom catalysts (SACs) have become the frontier materials in the field of environmental remediation, especially wastewater purification because of their nearly 100% ultra-high atomic utilization and excellent properties. SACs can be used in Fenton-like catalytic reactions to activate various peroxides (such as hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), ozone (O3), and persulfate (PSs)) to release active radicals and non-radicals, acting on target pollutants, and realize their decomposition and mineralization. Among them, peroxymonosulfate (PMS) in PS systems has gradually become an important oxidant in Fenton-like processes due to its asymmetric molecular structure and characteristics of easy storage and transportation. Focusing on the numerous proposed strategies for the synthesis and performance regulation of Fenton-like SACs, it has been confirmed that the coordination of isolated metal atoms and the support/carrier enhances the structural robustness and chemical stability of these catalysts and optimizes their catalytic activity and kinetics. Moreover, the tunability of the coordination environment and electronic properties of SACs can improve their other catalytic properties, such as cycle stability and selectivity. Thus, to systematically explain the relationship between the active center, catalyst performance and the corresponding potential catalytic mechanism, herein, we focus on the representative scientific work on the preparation strategy, catalytic application and performance regulation of Fenton-like SACs. Specifically, we review the typical Fenton-like SAC reaction processes and catalytic mechanisms for the degradation of refractory organic compounds in advanced oxidation processes (AOPs). Finally, the future development and challenges of Fenton-like SACs are presented.

RESUMEN

A significant number of pollutants in wastewater can be electrocatalytically oxidized by SnO2-Sb, a relatively inactive electrode. However, the arduous process of environmental remediation due to poor electrochemical performance and short service life of the traditional Ti/SnO2-Sb electrode. In this work the SnO2 electrode with a micron-sized sphere structure was prepared by in-situ hydrothermal. The results of the study that the electrode (Pb-10%) synthesized from the precursor solution in which the Pb:Sn molar ratio is 10% exhibits excellent electrooxidation properties. Impressiveing, the Pb-10% electrode displayed the small charge transfer resistance (10.71 Ω) and the high oxygen evolution potential (2.26 V vs. SCE). Thus, the electrochemical degradation experiment demonstrates that 100 mg L-1 MB was degraded by Pb-10% electrode under the condition of initial pH = 5, and the decolorization rate reached 94.6%. Moreover, the influence of different parameters such as Pb doping amount, initial pH value of solution, initial concentration of MB and inorganic ions on degradation efficiency were also explored, in turn the practical application of electrodes in the field of purifying water resources is optimized. It is worth noting that the service life of the optimized electrode (100 mA cm-2, 0.5 M H2SO4, 90 h) is about 12 times longer than that of the bare electrode (Sn-Sb). Therefore, the high-performance Ti/SnO2-Sb electrode prepared in this work possesses vast application prospects in the electrocatalytic oxidation.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Super typhoon Lekima had a maximum wind force of 16 (52 m/s) and hit Wenling city, Zhejiang province in China on August 10, 2019. The typhoon left many victims showing symptoms of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to assess the prevalence of full and partial PTSD to inform targeted interventions for adult victims. METHOD: In total, four thousand seven hundred and forty-six adults who are parents of students in local primary and middle schools were recruited to participate in this study. Participants completed a trauma exposure scale and the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition PTSD Checklist. Logistic regression analysis was used to examine the factors of full and partial PTSD. RESULTS: Nine hundred and ten (19.2%) adults had full PTSD and 1775 (37.4%) had partial PTSD. Adults with a monthly income > 10,000 RMB (about 1530 dollars) and a high education level (bachelor's degree or above) were less likely to have full or partial PTSD than those with lower income and lower education levels. In addition, married adults were less likely to have full PTSD than divorced or widowed ones. Higher rates of PTSD were observed among those aged ≥40 years, who were injured/trapped, whose family members/friends were injured/trapped, and who lost property. CONCLUSIONS: Partial and full PTSD were common among adults following super typhoon Lekima, and high income, high education level, and married status were protective factors, whereas trauma exposure was a risk factor of PTSD. Target psychological intervention should be provided to these victims who are in low income and education level, divorced and widowed, and experienced more serious trauma.

RESUMEN

Electrocatalytic water splitting, which is driven by renewable energy input to produce oxygen, has been widely regarded as a promising strategy in the future energy portfolio. The two-dimensional structure based on CoOOH nanosheets is easy to handle in the preparation process, low in cost, and has a small overpotential during water decomposition. Therefore, CoOOH two-dimensional materials have been widely used as electrocatalysts for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER). In this paper, we summarize the application of two-dimensional CoOOH nanosheets in the field of oxygen production from electrocatalytic water splitting. First, the different preparation methods of two-dimensional CoOOH nanosheets are briefly introduced. The structure-activity relationship of the two-dimensional CoOOH catalyst was analyzed from different viewpoints, such as doping, defects, etc. Finally, different catalytic mechanisms of CoOOH-based catalysts are discussed, and studies at the density functional theory (DFT) level are also provided to support the above mechanisms. To improve the readability of this review, a concise overview at the end of each section is given to illustrate some of the characteristics and trends of the studies in the corresponding part. The opportunities and challenges of two-dimensional CoOOH as an electrocatalyst in the future are summarized in the Conclusion section. This work will provide new insights and perspectives to the readers to understand the role of CoOOH nanosheets in the OER process.

RESUMEN

The present study sought to establish how a word's contextual predictability impacts the early stages of word processing when reading Chinese. Two eye-movement experiments were conducted in which the predictability of the target two-character word was manipulated; the frequency of the target's initial character was manipulated in Experiment 1, as was the target's end character frequency in Experiment 2. No reliable interaction effect of predictability with initial character frequency was observed in Experiment 1. Reliable interactions of word predictability with end character frequency were observed in Experiment 2. The end character frequency effects, in which the words with high-frequency end characters were fixated for a shorter time and re-fixated less often, were only observed when reading unpredictable words. Reliable interactions were also observed with incoming saccade length, as high-frequency end character words elicited longer saccades to themselves than low-frequency end character words when reading predictable words. The effects of pervasive predictability on measures of fixation time, probability, and saccade length were noted in both experiments. Our findings suggest that a word's contextual predictability facilitates the processing of its constituent characters.

RESUMEN

Distal humerus type C fracture is a rare and complicated intra-articular injury. Non-surgical treatment is difficult to achieve accurately reduction and reconstruction of articular surface, while open reduction and internal fixation is the best treatment option. Olecranon osteotomy could provide adequate surgical exposure, and is the most commonly used surgical method, but complications such as non-union osteotomy, internal fixation failure occurred. To avoid sacrificing integrity of olecranon, paratricipital approach, triceps reflecting approach, triceps reflectin ganconeus pedicle approach, triceps splitting and triceps tongue-shaped flap approach have been applied to fracture revealed. However, there is a certain contradiction of choice between surgical exposure and extension function of elbow due to limitations of different approaches. With the promotion of "double-column" theory, double plates has significant mechanical advantages over single plates. Even if parallel double-plate has more advantageous than vertical double-plate in vitro biomechanical experiments, it is not clear whether there is any difference between two methods in clinical application. Elbow arthroplasty may be the final choice for C-type fractures that could not be reconstructed on articular surface, but its long-term efficacy remains to be observed due to technical limitations.

RESUMEN

Tetragonal-phase Pr2CuO4 nanosheets with a thickness of about 60 nm were synthesized using the coordination compound methods (CCMs), then used as highly efficient selective adsorbent towards malachite green (MG) in aqueous solutions. The Pr2CuO4 samples were characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), UV-Vis diffuse reflectance spectrum (DRS), and standard Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) methods. The maximum adsorption capacity (Qm) of as-prepared samples was determined by adsorption isotherms with different adsorbent doses (m) of 0.03-0.07 g at 298, 318, and 338 K based on the Langmuir model. When m < 0.03 g or > 0.07 g, effects of systemic mass loss and particle aggregation were discussed on the data deviation from the Langmuir model at 298 K. Based on the hydrogen bond and coordination bond, a possible mechanism of selective adsorption of MG by Pr2CuO4 is proposed, which was further verified by the adsorption experiments of CuO and Pr2O3 towards MG and competing-ion experiments. Finally, the theoretic studies were performed at DFT level to reveal the possible adsorption process.

RESUMEN

Dy2Cu2O5 nanoparticles with perovskite structures were synthesized via a simple solution method (SSM) and a coordination compound method (CCM) using [DyCu(3,4-pdc)2(OAc)(H2O)2]•10.5H2O (pdc = 3,4-pyridinedicarboxylic acid) as precursor. The as-prepared samples were structurally characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and standard Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) methods. Compared to the aggregated hexahedral particles prepared by SSM, the Dy2Cu2O5 of CCM showed hollow spherical morphology composed of nanoparticles with average diameters of 100-150 nm and a larger special surface area up to 36.5 m2/g. The maximum adsorption capacity (Q m ) of CCM for malachite green (MG) determined by the adsorption isotherms with different adsorbent dosages of 0.03-0.07 g, reached 5.54 g/g at room temperature. The thermodynamic parameters of adsorption process were estimated by the fittings of the isotherms at 298, 318, and 338 K, and the kinetic parameters were obtained from the time-dependent adsorption isotherms. The results revealed that the adsorption process followed a pseudo-second-order reaction. Finally, the adsorption mechanism was studied using a competitive ion (CI) experiments, and the highly efficient selective adsorption was achieved due to strong O-Cu and O-Dy coordination bonds between Dy2Cu2O5 and MG.

RESUMEN

Deep-ultraviolet nonlinear optical crystals are of great importance as key materials in generating coherent light with wavelength below 200 nm through cascaded frequency conversion of solid-state lasers. However, the solely usable crystal in practice, KBe2BO3F2 (KBBF), is still commercially unavailable because of the high toxicity of beryllium-containing and the extreme difficulty of crystal growth. Here, we report the crystal growth and characteristics of an beryllium-free polyphosphate, KLa(PO3)4. Centimeter-sized single crystals have been easily obtained by the flux method and slow-cooling technique. The second-harmonic generation efficiency of KLa(PO3)4 powder is 0.7 times that of KH2PO4; moreover, the KLa(PO3)4 crystal is phase-matchable. Remarkably, the KLa(PO3)4 crystal exhibits an absorption edge of 162 nm, which is the shortest among phase-matchable phosphates so far. These attributes make KLa(PO3)4 a possible deep-ultraviolet nonlinear optical crystal. An analysis of the dipole moments of the polyhedra and theoretical calculations by density functional theory were made to elucidate the structure-properties relationships of KLa(PO3)4.

RESUMEN

Gastric cancer is one of the most virulent malignant diseases and is the second leading cause of cancer mortality in the world. The receptor tyrosine kinase MET is constitutively activated in many gastric cancers and its expression is strictly required for survival of some gastric cancer cells. Targeting gastric cancers with amplified or abnormally activated MET may have therapeutic benefit based on nonclinical and emerging clinical findings. However, one of the major problems of therapies targeting tyrosine kinases is that many tumors are not responsive to treatment or eventually develop resistance to the drugs. This study aims to understand the mechanisms of MET resistance in gastric SNU-5 xenografts which developed resistance to PHA665752, a MET inhibitor, through long-period tyrosine kinase inhibitor exposure. In the current study, we found that PI3K p110α is overexpressed in PHA665752-resistant SNU-5 xenografts. These findings showed that high PI3K p110α expression contributes to tyrosine kinase inhibitor resistance. In addition, we reported the development of a carcinogen-induced gastric cancer model that recapitulates PI3K p110α expression in human disease, which will serve as a useful model to study PI3K p110α's biology and its effectiveness as a novel biomarker and a molecular target for gastric cancer. Ultimately, PI3K p110α represents a novel target for gastric cancer.

RESUMEN

We introduce a simple lattice model in which percolation is constructed on top of critical percolation clusters, and find compelling numerical evidence that it can be repeated recursively any number n of generations. In two dimensions, we determine the percolation thresholds up to n=5. The corresponding critical clusters become more and more compact as n increases, and define universal scaling functions of the standard two-dimensional form and critical exponents that are distinct for any n. This family of exponents differs from previously known universality classes, and cannot be accommodated by existing analytical methods. We confirm that recursive percolation is well defined also in three dimensions.

RESUMEN

Employing a multicontext observational design, using a person-centered approach, and treating the marital dyad as the unit of analysis, this study examined the within-couple communication patterning of 144 Chinese newlywed couples and its association with relationship satisfaction. Latent profile analysis consistently revealed 3 profiles of spouses' interactive behaviors across contexts differing in both topic nature (i.e., problem-solving vs. social support) and initiator (i.e., husbands vs. wives): (a) traditionally undemonstrative profile, (b) emotionally quarrelling profile, and (c) warmly supportive profile. The prevalence of communication profiles changed markedly with the nature of the discussion topic and the topic initiator. Further, using latent class analysis, we classified couples into subgroups based on their identified profile memberships across contexts (i.e., consistency of interaction mode across contexts). Three classes were identified: (a) consistently quarrelling class, (b) consistently supportive class, and (c) modestly traditional class. Both the consistently supportive class and the modestly traditional class reported significantly higher levels of marital satisfaction than did the consistently quarrelling class.

RESUMEN

Solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT) is a strengths-based approach that was developed by American social workers and a team of interdisciplinary colleagues in the early 1980s. This article provides a review of SFBT in mainland China, showing the cross-cultural and transdisciplinary use of SFBT by diverse professionals within China. In particular, this article discusses how SFBT has spread from the United States to China and how the practice of SFBT has grown in mainland China. This is the first article in English to review the Chinese literature and further summarize the use of SFBT in mental health and health care fields within China. Practice implications for the future use of SFBT with Chinese people are also discussed.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To compare the handling and efficacy between three-dimensional(3D) imaging system and two-dimensional(2D) imaging system for laparoscopic surgery of rectal cancer deep obturator lymph node dissection. METHODS: Clinical data of 36 patients who underwent rectal cancer resection and obturator lymph node dissection with 3D or 2D imaging system from January 2013 to May 2014 in our department were retrospectively analyzed. There were 16 cases and 20 cases in 3D group and 2D group respectively. Completion time of obturator lymph node dissection, total operation time, total number of lymph node dissected, number of wrong grasping (more than twice for correct positioning in the same site) times and blood loss during obturator lymph node dissection were compared between two groups. RESULT: The laparoscopic rectal cancer resections were successfully completed without laparotomy in both groups. The completion time of obturator lymph node dissection was (23.5 ± 2.5) min and (25.0 ± 3.0) min respectively (P<0.05); the number of wrong grasping was 5.0 ± 2.0 and 6.0 ± 4.0(P<0.01); the blood loss during obturator lymph node dissection was (15.5 ± 1.5) ml and (17.5 ± 2.5) ml (P<0.01). The differences were all statistically significant. The total operation time of 3D and 2D group was (206.0 ± 26.0) min and (222.5 ± 27.5) min (P<0.05); the total number of lymph node dissected was 24 ± 6 and 21 ± 9 (P<0.05). The differences were statistically significant as well. Six cases in 3D group and 11 cases in 2D group were followed up for 1 year and there was no tumor recurrence or death case. CONCLUSION: 3D laparoscopic technique has more obvious advantages as compared with 2D laparoscopic system in rectal cancer deep obturator lymph node dissection, so it is worthy to spread.

RESUMEN

Most research on couple communication patterns comes from North America and Europe and suggests cross-cultural universality in effects, but emerging studies suggest that couple communication takes different forms depending on the cultural context in which it occurs. The current study addressed this discrepancy by comparing the observed social support behaviors of 50 newlywed American couples and 41 newlywed Mainland Chinese couples, first on mean levels of positivity and negativity and second on behavior-satisfaction associations. Consistent with predictions derived from observational work by Tsai and Levenson (1997), Chinese couples were observed displaying significantly more negative behavior than American couples, even after controlling for relationship satisfaction; the 2 groups did not differ in observed positive behaviors. Tests of the moderating role of culture on behavior-satisfaction associations showed that positivity was significantly related to relationship satisfaction only for American husbands, whereas negativity was significantly associated with relationship satisfaction only for Chinese husbands. We speculate that cultural contexts may influence the display and evaluation of behavior in intimate relationships, suggesting the need for caution when generalizing models and associated interventions to non-Western couples.
