RESUMEN

In recent years, acupuncture has gained great progress in the treatment of chronic respiratory diseases (CRD), and the clinical effect is remarkable, but its underlying mechanisms are relatively complex, with the anti-inflammatory effect being the primary aspect. Based on the literature both at home and abroad, we found that the anti-inflammatory mechanism of acupuncture mainly involves chemokines, kinase-related pathways, helper T cells, epigenetic modification, autophagy, vagal-mediated cholinergic anti-inflammatory pathway, etc. The researches on some anti-inflammatory mechanisms are still in the initial stage, the relationship among various pathways, and the key factors affecting the effect of acupuncture, such as acupoint selection, stimulation intensity and needling depth, etc. warrant further exploration in the future.

BACKGROUND: Dyspnea is one of the most common symptoms of chronic respiratory disease (CRD) and is closely related to increased functional disability and mortality, resulting in substantial adverse outcomes on patients and imposing great social and economic burden. Although multiple clinical trials and systematic reviews have suggested that acupuncture could be effective in treating COPD and lung cancer, little is known about its effects on dyspnea relief in patients with CRD. The present study aimed to use a systematic review approach to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of acupuncture in the treatment of dyspnea in patients with CRD. METHODS: We will search the following 9 databases from inception to June 30, 2022, PubMed, Web of Science, EMBASE, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure, WANFANG Database, Chinses Scientific and Technological Periodical Database, and Chinese Biomedical Database, and the Cochrane Library Database. Clinical randomized controlled trials in English or Chinese that evaluate invasive acupuncture versus control group in treatment of CRD with dyspnea will be included. The primary outcome will be dyspnea scores, breathing physiological function, and the secondary outcomes include exercise tolerance by six-minute walk distance quality of life, quality of life and adverse events. Two reviewers will independently conduct study selection, data extraction and quality assessment. The Review Manager software will be used for meta-analysis. This protocol will be carried out in accordance with the PRISMA-P guidance. CONCLUSION: This systematic review and meta-analysis will provide the evidence of whether acupuncture is an effective and safe intervention for CRD with dyspnea. The results will be disseminated through peer-reviewed publication.

RESUMEN

The paper reviewed the relevant studies on dyspnea treated with acupuncture over the past 20 years, as well as the underlying neuroendocrine mechanism from the perspective of central and peripheral vagus nerves, neurotransmitter, respiratory muscle function and anti-depression-anxiety function. It revealed that the central response area was regulated by acupuncture in treatment of dyspnea, which is similar to the area affected in acupuncture analgesia. Additionally, acupuncture generates its therapeutic effects on dyspnea through promoting the release of endogenous opioid peptides and the regulation of autonomic nerve, amygdale and hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis.

BACKGROUND: The pathogenesis of human immunodeficiency virus 1 (HIV-1) infection is so complex that have not been clearly defined, despite intensive efforts have been made by many researchers. MicroRNA (miRNA) as regulation factor in various human diseases may influence the course of HIV-1 infection by targeting mRNAs. Thus, studies combining transcription of posttranscriptional miRNA regulation are required. METHODS: With the purpose of identifying cascaded miRNA-mRNA regulatory relationships related to HIV infection in gene level, the parallel miRNA, and mRNA expression profiles were analyzed to select differential expressed miRNAs and mRNAs. Then, miRNA-mRNA interactions were predicted using 3 data sources and Pearson correlation coefficient was calculated based on the gene expression level for accuracy improvement. Furthermore, the calculation of the regulatory impact factors was conducted to reveal crucial regulators in HIV-1 infection. To give further insight into these transcription factor (TF) regulators, the differentially co-expression analysis was conducted to identify differentially co-expressed links and differential co-expressed genes and the co-expression gene modules were identified using a threshold-based hierarchical clustering method, then modules were combined into a miRNA-TF-mRNA network. RESULTS: A total of 69,126 differentially co-expressed links and 626 differential co-expressed genes were identified. Functional enrichment analysis indicated that these co-expressed genes were significantly involved in immune response and apoptosis. Moreover, according to regulatory impact factors, 5 most influential TFs and miRNA in HIV-1 infection were identified and miRNA-TF-mRNA regulatory networks were built during the computing process. CONCLUSIONS: In our study, a set of integrated methods was generated to identify important regulators and miRNA-TF-mRNA interactions. Parallel profiling analysis of the miRNAs and mRNAs expression of HIV/acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) patients after antiretroviral therapy indicated that some regulators have wide impact on gene regulation and that these regulatory elements may bear significant implications on the underlying molecular mechanism and pathogenesis of AIDS occurrence.

KEY MESSAGE: This review contains functional roles of NAC transcription factors in the transcriptional regulation of ripening in tomato fruit, describes the interplay between ABA/ethylene and NAC TFs in tomato fruit ripening. Fruit ripening is regulated by a complex network of transcription factors (TFs) and genetic regulators in response to endogenous hormones and external signals. Studying the regulation of fruit ripening has important significance for controlling fruit quality, enhancing nutritional value, improving storage conditions and extending shelf-life. Plant-specific NAC (named after no apical meristem (NAM), Arabidopsis transcription activator factor 1/2 (ATAF1/2) and Cup-shaped cotyledon (CUC2)) TFs play essential roles in plant development, ripening and stress responses. In this review, we summarize the recent progress on the regulation of NAC TFs in fruit ripening, discuss the interactions between NAC and other factors in controlling fruit development and ripening, and emphasize how NAC TFs are involved in tomato fruit ripening through the ethylene and abscisic acid (ABA) pathways. The signaling network regulating ripening is complex, and both hormones and individual TFs can affect the status or activity of other network participants, which can alter the overall ripening network regulation, including response signals and fruit ripening. Our review helps in the systematic understanding of the regulation of NAC TFs involved in fruit ripening and provides a basis for the development or establishment of complex ripening regulatory network models.

BACKGROUND: Ziziphus jujuba Miller cv. Dongzao is extremely susceptible to reddening, browning, nutritional loss, and perishability after harvest. In this study, we evaluated the mechanisms of calcium chloride and chitosan/nano-silica composite film treatments on the quality, especially in reddening, by physiological and metabolomic assays. RESULTS: The treatment delayed the decline of phenylalanine ammonia-lyase (PAL), chalcone synthase (CHS), and chalcone isomerase (CHI) activities. Meanwhile, the treated groups retarded the increases in anthocyanin and quercetin contents by inhibiting the gene expressions of flavonol synthase (ZjFLS), dihydroflavonol 4-reductase (ZjDFR), and anthocyanidin synthase (ZjANS), while promoting leucoanthocyanidin reductase (ZjLAR) expression, which leads to retardation of fruit reddening. Anthocyanins were found to be responsible for post-harvest winter jujube reddening through principal component analysis. Results from the technique for order preference by similarity to an ideal solution indicated that the treated group delayed the decline of the quality of 'Dongzao' and extended its shelf life. CONCLUSION: The treatment induced the heightening of flavonoids metabolism. They enhanced the nutritional value and the ability to resist stress by delaying the decline of PAL, CHS, and CHI activities. Meanwhile, the treated groups retarded the increase in anthocyanin and quercetin contents by inhibiting the gene expressions of ZjFLS, ZjDFR, and ZjANS and promoting ZjLAR expression, which leads to retardation of fruit reddening. Anthocyanins are responsible for post-harvest winter jujube reddening. Coating treatment effectively delayed the decline of winter jujube quality. © 2020 Society of Chemical Industry.

BACKGROUND: Chronic hepatitis B liver fibrosis is significant public concern. Ganshuang granules (GSG) are used to treat liver fibrosis for a long time. The aim of this study is to synthesize related data to explore efficacy and safety of GSG as an adjuvant treatment for chronic hepatitis B liver fibrosis. METHODS: Electronic database were used to identify related studies. We chose PubMed, China Knowledge Network Infrastructure, China Biomedical Database, Wan Fang Data, VIP Database, EMBASE, and Cochrane Library as retrieval tool. Two independent individuals conducted the publication selection, data extraction, data assessment. Any problems between 2 researchers will be resolved by a third reviewer through negotiation. RevMan 5.3 (The Cochrane Collaboration, Copenhagen, Denmark) software will be used for data analysis. RESULTS: This study will systematically detect the efficacy and safety of GSG for treating chronic hepatitis B liver fibrosis. CONCLUSION: This study will provide scientific evidence to explorer whether GSG are efficacy and safety in treating chronic hepatitis B liver fibrosis. BACKGROUND: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a public threat, leading to progressive physical activity and poor quality of life. Although modern medicine has excellent achievement of COPD, the recurrence rate of stable COPD and the mortality of acute exacerbation COPD remain high. As one of the external therapy of traditional Chinese medicine, acupoint application has been treated COPD in China for a long time. Nevertheless, study evaluating the effect of acupoint application for COPD could not satisfy needs for clinic. METHOD: Randomized controlled trials meeting the inclusion criteria will be collected by the 2 reviewers. We choose the following electronic databases of Web of Science, Pub Med, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wan Fang, Chinese Scientific Journals Database, and Chinese Biomedical Database as our retrieval tool. The retrieval time was from inception to March 2020. The key to evaluation criteria is total clinical efficacy rate and lung function will be measured. Secondary outcomes include assessment scales and adverse reactions. The studies extracted will be assessed. The merging analysis will be carried out by Review Manager Software. RESULT: A scientific evidence of efficacy and safety of acupoint application for COPD will be found. Given the challenges in exploring lifelong therapy with little side effect for human immunodeficiency virus infection and acquired immune deficiency syndrome (HIV/AIDS) cases, there is increasing interest in developing traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) treatments based on specific TCM syndrome. However, there are few objective and biological evidences for classification and diagnosis of HIV/AIDS TCM syndromes to date. In this study, iTRAQ-2DLC-MS/MS coupled with bioinformatics were firstly employed for comparative proteomic profiling of top popular TCM syndromes of HIV/AIDS: accumulation of heat-toxicity (AHT) and Yang deficiency of spleen and kidney (YDSK). It was found that for the two TCM syndromes, the identified differential expressed proteins (DEPs) as well as their biological function distributions and participation in signaling pathways were significantly different, providing biological evidence for the classification of HIV/AIDS TCM syndromes. Furthermore, the TCM syndrome-specific DEPs were confirmed as biomarkers based on western blot analyses, including FN1, GPX3, KRT10 for AHT and RBP4, ApoE, KNG1 for YDSK. These biomarkers also biologically linked with the specific TCM syndrome closely. Thus the clinical and biological basis for differentiation and diagnosis of HIV/AIDs TCM syndromes were provided for the first time, providing more opportunities for stable exertion and better application of TCM efficacy and superiority in HIV/AIDS treatment.

The first metatarsophalangeal joint bending plays an important role in the foot movement. However, the existing researches mainly focused on the movement scope of the joint and the clinical treatments of related foot diseases. In order to investigate the effects of the first metatarsophalangeal joint bending on human walking gait stability, the present researchers recruited 6 healthy young men to perform the first metatarsophalangeal joint constraint (FMJC) and barefoot (BF) walking tests. Data of the temporal and spatial parameters, the joint angles of lower limbs, the ground reaction forces (GRF) and utilized coefficients of friction (UCOF) were collected and analyzed. The results showed that, since hip and knee could produce compensation motions, the FMJC had no significant effects on waking gait, but the slip and fall probability increased significantly.

The first metatarsophalangeal (MTP) joint is a critical component for normal walking. The present study aimed to investigate the effects of restricting the flexion-extension motion of the first MTP joint on human walking gait. Ten male participants were recruited to perform walking trials under barefoot (BF) and the first MTP joint constraint (FMJC) conditions, respectively. The results showed that there were statistically significant differences in walking speed and stride length. The characteristics of angular displacement in three lower limb joints and ground reaction force (GRF) were almost identical in BF and FMJC. However, maxima, minima and range of motion of three joint angles were significantly different. The utilized coefficient of friction (UCOF) increased significantly after FMJC, indicating that there may be a greater risk of slippage and falling when FMJC.
