RESUMEN

Fibromatosis, or desmoid tumour, is characterized by excessive and infiltrative proliferation of connective tissue originating from aponeurotic muscle structures. Mammary fibromatosis is rare in humans and animals and its precise aetiology is unknown. A 10-year-old mixed-breed female dog developed a mass in the right cranial thoracic mammary gland (M1) and underwent lumpectomy. The mass was firm, with an irregular surface and distinct limits. Microscopically, it was a neoplastic proliferation of fusiform cells with low atypia, interspersed with abundant dense collagenous tissue, confirmed by histochemical staining with Gomori's trichrome and Masson's trichrome and immunopositivity for vimentin and smooth muscle actin, confirming mammary fibromatosis. Mammary fibromatosis in dogs needs further studies to elucidate its clinical, epidemiological and aetiopathogenic aspects.

Dietary niche is fundamental for determining species ecology; thus, a detailed understanding of what drives variation in dietary niche is vital for predicting ecological shifts and could have implications for species management. Gut microbiota can be important for determining an organism's dietary preference, and therefore which food resources they are likely to exploit. Evidence for whether the composition of the gut microbiota is plastic in response to changes in diet is mixed. Also, the extent to which dietary preference can be changed following colonisation by new gut microbiota from different species is unknown. Here, we use Drosophila spp. to show that: (1) the composition of an individual's gut microbiota can change in response to dietary changes, and (2) ingestion of foreign gut microbes can cause individuals to be attracted to food types they previously had a strong aversion to. Thus, we expose a mechanism for facilitating rapid shifts in dietary niche over short evolutionary timescales.

RESUMEN

Identity formation is a developmental milestone for adolescents, and their identities are constructed and re-constructed through their interactions with others and contextual factors in their environment. When considering adolescents with substance use disorders (SUD), often this developmental milestone is misappropriated, misunderstood, and misrepresented. The purpose of this article was to explore how adolescents with substance use disorders form identity and construct a sense of self. Firstly, we explored the identity formation and reconstruction of 20 female adolescents with SUDs based on an in-depth grounded theory methodology (GTM) which included a situational analysis (SA). Secondly, we offered a theoretical model to explain identity construction and reconstruction of adolescents with SUDs that emerged from this research. We conclude this article with practical implications for treatment, and care of adolescents with SUDs.
