RESUMEN

Amphiphilic polysaccharides can be used as wall materials and applied to encapsulate hydrophobic active chemicals; moreover, there is significant demand for novel medical high-molecular-weight materials with various functions. In order to prepare amphiphilic schizophyllan (SPG), octenyl succinic anhydride (OSA) was chosen to synthesize OSA-modified schizophyllan (OSSPG) using an esterified reaction. The modification of OSSPG was demonstrated through FT-IR and thermal analysis. Moreover, it was found that OSSPG has a better capacity for loading curcumin, and the loading amount was 20 µg/mg, which was 2.6 times higher than that of SPG. In addition, a hydrogel made up of PVA, borax, and C-OSSPG (OSSPG loaded with curcumin) was prepared by means of the one-pot method, based on the biological effects of curcumin and the immune-activating properties of SPG. The mechanical properties and biological activity of the hydrogel were investigated. The experimental results show that the dynamic cross-linking of PVA and borax provided the C-OSSPG/BP hydrogel dressing with exceptional self-healing properties, and it was discovered that the C-OSSPG content increased the hydrogel's swelling and moisturizing properties. In fibroblast cell tests, the cells treated with hydrogel had survival rates of 80% or above. Furthermore, a hydrogel containing C-OSSPG could effectively promote cell migration. Due to the excellent anti-inflammatory properties of curcumin, the hydrogel also significantly reduces the generation of inflammatory factors, such as TNF-α and IL-6, and thus has a potential application as a wound dressing medicinal material.

RESUMEN

Tactile sensors with visible light feedback functions, such as wearable displays and electronic skin and biomedical devices, are becoming increasingly important in various fields. However, existing methods cannot meet the application requirements for the tactile perception of intensity feedback and extended intersection due to their limited light-mapping performance and insufficient portability. Herein, a freely constructible self-powered visual tactile sensor is proposed, which consists of a high-output triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) and a visual light source. The transferred charge of the TENG is enhanced to 746 nC by the structural design of the triboelectric material and device, which can easily drive the light source to generate a light signal with a brightness of 9.8 cd m-2 . Notably, the application of the TENG enables to realization visual sensing of the palm-grasp state and strength feedback without an external power supply. This visual feedback and power-free tactile sensors are expected to have potential application in the field of artificial intelligence as a new interactive medium for smart protective clothing and robotics.

RESUMEN

Schizophyllum commune (S. commune) fermented supernatant with added Radix Puerariae (SC-RP) showed significant antioxidant activity in our previous work. However, the possible lifespan and healthspan extending the capacity of Caenorhabditis elegans (C. elegans) and the underlying mechanism were not illuminated. In this study, the effect of SC-RP on extending the lifespan and improving stress resistance of C. elegans were examined. Additionally, the underlying lifespan extending molecular mechanisms of SC-RP were explored. Treated with SC-RP at 10 µg/mL, the lifespan of C. elegans increased by 24.89% (P < 0.01). Also, SC-RP prolonged the healthspan of the nematode, including reducing lipofuscin levels, improving mobility and enhancing resistance to oxidative stress and heat shock. Moreover, superoxide dismutase and catalase activities were increased for SC-RP treated C. elegans. Meantime the intracellular levels of thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) and reactive oxygen species (ROS) were attenuated. Express levels of eight genes including daf-2, daf-16, sod-3, skn-1, gst-4, clk-1, age-1 and mev-1 were analyzed by RT-PCR method for possible C. elegan anti-aging mechanisms of SC-RP. Expression levels of key genes daf-2, gst-4 and sod-3 were up-regulated, while that of daf-16, skn-1, and clk-1 were down-regulated. The results suggest that SC-RP could extend the lifespan and healthspan of C. elegans significantly, and the IIS pathway, SKN-1/Nrf2 pathway and mitochondrial metabolism pathway were primarily considered associated. Thus, SC-RP is a potential component to improve aging and aging-related symptoms as new functional materials.

RESUMEN

Magnetic covalent organic framework nanocomposite denoted as Fe3O4@TAPB-Tp with core-shell structure was fabricated via a simple template-mediated precipitation polymerization method at mild conditions. The polyimine network shell was created through the polymerization of 1,3,5-tris(4-aminophenyl)-benzene (TAPB) and 1,3,5-triformyl-phloroglucinol (Tp) in tetrahydrofuran (THF) by the Schiff-base reaction. Featuring with large specific surface area (163.19 m2 g-1), good solution dispersibility, and high stability, the obtained Fe3O4@TAPB-Tp exhibited high adsorption capacities and fast adsorption for zearalenone and its derivatives (ZEAs). The adsorption isotherms showed multilayer adsorption dominated at low concentration and monolayer adsorption at high concentration between the interface of ZEAs and Fe3O4@TAPB-Tp. With the Fe3O4@TAPB-Tp as sorbent, a magnetic solid-phase extraction-ultrahigh performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MS/MS) method was established for simultaneous adsorption and detection of five ZEAs in complex samples. The proposed method displayed favorable linearity, low limits of detection (0.003 ~ 0.018 µg kg-1), and good repeatability (2.37~10.4%). The developed method has been applied for real sample analysis, with recoveries of 81.27~90.26%. These results showed that Fe3O4@TAPB-Tp has a good application potential for the adsorption of ZEAs in food samples. Magnetic covalent organic framework nanocomposite (Fe3O4@TAPB-Tp) were quickly fabricated at mild conditions and used as effective adsorbent for magnetic solid-phase extraction of zearalenone and its derivatives (ZEAs) from food samples prior to ultrahigh performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MS/MS) analysis.

RESUMEN

High-air humidity, especially condensation into droplets under the influence of temperature, can pose a serious threat to air purification filters. This report introduces the use of methyltrimethoxysilane (MTMS) for the silanization hydrophobic modification of cellulose nanofibers (CNFs) and obtains an air filter with super-hydrophobicity (CA = 152.4°) and high-efficiency filtration of particulate matter (PM) through the freeze-drying technology. The antihumidity performance of CNFs filters that undergo hydrophobic modification in high-humidity air is improved. Especially in the case of high-humidity air forming condensed water droplets, the increase in the rate of filtration resistance of the hydrophobically modified CNFs filter is much lower than that of the unmodified filter. In addition, the water-vapor-transmission rate of the hydrophobically modified filter is improved. More importantly, adding MTMS can regulate the porous structure of CNFs filters and improve the filtration performance. The specific surface area and the porosity of the filter are 26.54 m2/g and 99.21%, respectively, and the filtering effects of PM1.0 and PM2.5 reach 99.31 and 99.75%, respectively, while a low-filtration resistance (42 Pa) and a quality factor of up to 0.122 Pa-1 are achieved. This work has improved the application potential of high-performance air-purification devices to remove particulate pollution and may provide useful insights to design next-generation air filters suitable for application in high-air humidity.

RESUMEN

To increase the production of exopolysaccharides (EPS) and expand the application of Schizophyllum commune (S. commune) fermentation liquid, the traditional Chinese medicine Radix Puerariae (RP) with outstanding biological activity was selected as a culture additive to improve the EPS yield and enhance the antioxidant activity of fermented products from S. commune. The effects of three independent factors: A: initial pH (5.0-6.0), B: concentration of RP (10-14 g L-1), and C: inoculum size (8-12%, v/v) on the EPS yield were evaluated. The results of response surface methodology (RSM) showed that the optimal fermentation conditions were: A: 5.40, B: 12.80 g L-1, and C: 10.0%. The optimal yield of EPS was 8.41 ± 0.12 mg mL-1, which showed an insignificant (p > 0.05) difference with the predicted value (8.45 mg mL-1). The fermented supernatants cultured from RP-supplemented medium (SC-RP) or regular medium (SC) were collected for further study. FT-IR analysis of EPS-1 (purified from SC) and EPS-2 (purified from SC-RP) showed that their structures were consistent, indicating that the addition of RP did not affect the structure of schizophyllan (SPG). In addition, compared with SC, the in vitro antioxidant activities of SC-RP were significantly improved with ORAC values and FRAP values increasing by 11.56-fold and 14.69-fold, respectively. There was a significant correlation among the phenolic compounds, flavonoids, and antioxidant activity of SC-RP in this study. Besides, SC-RP was detected to contain more than 25 bioactive ingredients compared with that of SC, which may play a key role in its antioxidant activities. Thus, these results indicated that RP enhanced the yield of SPG and improved the antioxidant activity of the fermented products by S. commune. Accordingly, the fermentation liquid of S. commune with the addition of RP may have potential application in food, cosmetics, and pharmaceutical industries.

RESUMEN

In this study, the seed polysaccharides (PCSP) was ultrasonic-assisted extracted from Pouteria campechiana and optimized by response surface method (RSM). After separation and purification by DEAE-52 cellulose column and Sephadex G-75 glucan gel column, the pure polysaccharide component of PCSPa-1 was obtained, and its structure and antioxidant activity were analyzed. The results showed that the optimal parameters of PCSP with maximum yields (15.94%) were ultrasonic temperature of 79 °C, ultrasonic time of 69 min, and liquid to material ratio of 41 mL/g. The molecular weight of PCSPa-1 was 67900 Da. PCSPa-1 consisted of glucose and mannose with a molar ratio of 86.65:4.62, and the glycosidic bond mainly included →4)-α-d-Glc(1→ and →6)-α-d-Glc(1→. Scanning electron microscopy showed that PCSPa-1 was a strip structure with a smooth surface. In addition, PCSPa-1 had strong scavenging capacity to 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), 2,2'-azino-bis- (3-ethylbenzthiaz oline-6-sulphonic acid) (ABTS), hydroxyl radical, and superoxide radical. Polysaccharides of Pouteria campechiana seeds could be exploited as a natural antioxidant.

RESUMEN

Thyme essential oils (TEO) exhibit antimicrobial activities against a wide range of pathogenic microorganisms. Microcapsulation technology can be used to improve the stability, water solubility and antibacterial performance of TEO. In this paper, TEO was selected as the core material, and ß-cyclodextrin (ß-CD) was the wall material for microcapsulation; gum arabic (GA) was used as an emulsifier to prepare microcapsules by coprecipitation. The effects of gum arabic on the encapsulation rate, particle size and release rate of microcapsules were investigated. The optimal condition was found to be TEO : GA by 1 : 3 (w/w) ratio. In this condition, the embedding rate, release rate, and average size of the microcapsules were 87.61%, 53.00%, and 8.20 µm, respectively. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) revealed that, under the action of gum arabic, the surface of microcapsules was more complete, and the size apparently decreased. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) indicated that there was no significant chemical interaction between gum arabic and ß-CD. Gum arabic acted only as an emulsifier and remained in the mixed solution. For microcapsules with gum arabic as an emulsifier, the cumulative release rate of essential oils were slower at the initial time compared to microcapsules without added gum arabic. Antimicrobial activity assay exhibited TEO, which showed an inhibitory effect against Botryodiplodia theobromae Pat., and the inhibitory effect was especially strong against Colletotrichum gloeosporioides Penz. Finally, the obtained microcapsules showed the same antibacterial effect.
