RESUMEN

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is extensively investigated for tumor therapy in the clinic. However, the efficacy of PDT is severely limited by the tissue penetrability of light, short effective half-life and radius of reactive oxygen species (ROS), and the weak immunostimulatory effect. In this study, a glutathione (GSH)-activatable nano-photosensitizer is developed to load with arachidonic acid (AA) and camouflage by erythrocyte membrane, which serves as a laser-ignited lipid peroxidation nanoamplifier (MAR). The photosensitive effect of MAR is recovered accompanied by the degradation in the tumor microenvironment and triggers the peroxidation of AA upon laser excitation. Interestingly, it aggravates the propagation of ferroptosis among cancer cells by driving the continuous lipid peroxidation chain reactions with the participation of the degradation products, ferrous ions (Fe2+), and AA. Consequently, even the deep-seated tumor cells without illumination also undergo ferroptosis owing to the propagation of ferroptotic signal. Moreover, the residual tumor cells undergoing ferroptosis still maintain high immunogenicity after PDT, thus continuously triggering sufficient tumor-associated antigens (TAAs) release to remarkably promote the anti-tumor immune response. Therefore, this study will provide a novel "all-in-one" nano-photosensitizer that not only amplifies the damaging effect and expands the effective range of PDT but also improves the immunostimulatory effect after PDT.

RESUMEN

A series of seaweed-like heterogeneous Co3(PO4)2/Ni3(PO4)2/MOF-74-x electrocatalysts were synthesized via a hydrothermal method. The optimal composite exhibits excellent catalytic performance toward methanol/ethanol oxidation reactions (MOR/EOR) with peak current densities reaching 27.5 and 32.6 mA cm-2, respectively. This work heralds the advent of more efficient heterogeneous electrocatalysts for DAFCs and other energy conversion systems.

RESUMEN

Transition metal sulfides are low-cost oxygen evolution reaction (OER) electrocatalysts that can potentially substitute noble metal catalysts. However, the adsorption process of their OER is impeded by their intrinsic poor catalytic activity. Constructing heterojunction and vacancy defects in transition metal sulfides is an efficient method to promote the process of oxygen evolution. Herein, a facile approach based on in situ sulfurization of metal-organic gels (MOGs) and a short-time plasma treatment was developed to fabricate vacancy-modified polymetallic sulfides heterojunction. The synergistic effect of the multi-component heterojunction and sulfur vacancy contributed greatly to improving the electron migration efficiency and OER ability of the electrocatalyst. As a result, the optimum oxygen evolution activity was achieved with appropriate surface vacancy concentrations by regulating the plasma radio frequency powers. The plasma-treated catalyst under 400 W showed the best OER performance (lower overpotential of 235 mV in 1 M KOH solution with the Tafel slope of 31 mV dec-1) and good durability over 11 h of chronopotentiometry testing. This work sheds new light on constructing multimetal-based heterojunction electrocatalysts with rich vacancy defects for oxygen evolution reactions.

RESUMEN

The 21st century expansion of built-up areas due to rapid urbanization has recently been at the forefront of global land use/land cover research. Knowledge of the changing dynamics of urban land use is crucial for the monitoring of urbanization and the promotion of sustainable urban development. In this paper, Zhejiang Province was selected as the study area. It is a region with rapid urban growth located along the southeastern coast of China, with a highly developed economy but with a shortage of land resources. We employed remotely sensed and socio-economic panel data for the period between 1990 and 2020 to monitor urban land use changes and utilized the spatial Durbin model (SDM) to examine the urbanization process and the various driving factors of rapid urban expansion in Zhejiang Province, China, from 1990 to 2020. The study's results revealed substantial urban growth of about 6899.59 km2, i.e., 6.6%, whereas agricultural land decreased by 4320.68 km2, i.e., 4.19%. The rapid urban development was primarily attributed to the transformation of farmlands, forestlands, and water bodies into built-up areas by nearly 86.9%, 6.94%, and 6.06%, respectively. The built-up areas revealed features of spatial clustering. The study showed that the expansion hotspots were mainly distributed within the urban fabric of cities such as Hangzhou, Ningbo, Jinhua-Yiwu, and Wenzhou-Taizhou. The results further revealed the substantial influence of urban growth on the local areas of the province. As the core explanatory variables, population and economic development significantly promoted local urban expansion. The study's findings indicated a positive spatial spillover effect as regards the influence of economic development on the study area's urban growth, whereas the spatial spillover effect of the population was negative. Therefore, economic development was a major driving factor contributing immensely to the expansion of urban areas in Zhejiang Province, especially in the 26 mountainous counties of the province. The study enriches our understanding of the transformation of LULC and the changing dynamics of urban areas in China and provides the necessary research data that are vital for urban land-use planners and decision-makers to overcome the negative consequences of the expansion of urban areas due to the continuous economic growth of China.
