With open spaces and good ecological environments, urban parks have become the first choice for the leisure and entertainment of many people. Therefore, the quality of park soil environments has gradually attracted the extensive attention of scholars. In this study, we take the Yellow River Cultural Park, a typical human disturbance area in the lower reaches of the Yellow River, as the research area to discuss the characteristics and sources of heavy metal pollution in the soil. Thirty-three soil surface samples were collected from the Yellow River Cultural Park, and the contents of seven heavy metals (Cr, Ni, Cu, Zn, Cd, Pb, and As) were determined using an inductively coupled plasma emission spectrometer (ICP-AES) and an inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer (ICP-MS). The geo-accumulation index and geo-statistics method were used. Meanwhile, the absolute factor analysis-multiple linear regression (APCS-MLR) receptor model and positive matrix factorization (PMF) analysis model were employed to reveal the sources of soil heavy metals. The results showed that the average contents of heavy metals (Cd, Zn, Cu, Pb, and As) in the surface soil of the study area were 4.62, 1.78, 1.41, 1.08, and 1.03 times higher than the background values of soil elements in the tidal soil area of the lower reaches of the Yellow River, respectively. Except for Zn, the contents of other elements were lower than the corresponding values of soil elements in different regions along the Yellow River Basin. Among the seven heavy metal elements, the coefficients of variation of Cd and As were greater than 50%, showing obvious spatial variability. The decreasing trend of the accumulation index of the seven elements was Cd>Zn>Cu>Ni>Pb>As=Cr, and the element Cd belonged to the middle pollution category, which was obviously accumulated in the surface soil. The spatial distribution of heavy metals in the soil differed:the high contents of Cr, Cu, and Ni were distributed in the southwest and northeast, and the high-value areas of Cd and Pb were consistent with the areas of human activity intensity. The high-value areas of Zn and As were located in the center of lacustrine sediments. The combined results of the APCS-MLR and PMF models suggested that the first pollution source of soil heavy metal elements in the Yellow River Cultural Park could have been a natural source, the second pollution source may have been a transportation source, and the third source of pollution was judged as a mixed source. Human activities such as transportation sources and mixed sources were the main sources of heavy metal soil pollution, and Cr, Cu, and Ni were affected by natural factors. The contribution rates of APCS-MLR were 46.67%, 24.11%, 16.12%, and 13.10%, respectively, and the contribution rates of PMF were 35.50%, 35.48%, and 29.02%, respectively. This research can provide a basis for improving the ecological environment quality of the park and improving the health level of the population and can also provide support for the ecological environment risk management and comprehensive management along the Yellow River.

OBJECTIVE: There is no consensus on the optimal timing of postoperative radiotherapy (PORT) for locally advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). We aimed to determine whether the timing of PORT affects the long-term prognosis of ESCC, and plotted nomograms to predict survival. METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed 351 ESCC patients who underwent radical surgery and PORT. Receiver operating characteristic curves were used to estimate the optimal cutoff point of the time interval between surgery and PORT. Cox proportional hazards regression was used to identify prognostic predictors. Overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) were predicted using nomograms. RESULTS: The median follow-up was 53 months (range: 3-179 months). Compared to early PORT, PORT at >48 days after surgery was associated with better OS (adjusted hazard ratio [HR]: 1.406, p = 0.037) and PFS (adjusted HR: 1.475, p = 0.018). In the chemotherapy subgroup, incorporation of chemotherapy timing into the analysis suggested that 2-4 chemotherapy cycles followed by PORT was the optimal treatment schedule as compared to 0-1 chemotherapy cycle followed by PORT and concurrent chemoradiotherapy (5-year PFS: 65.9% vs. 51.0% vs. 50.1%; p = 0.049). The nomograms for OS and PFS were superior to the TNM classification (concordance indices: 0.721 vs. 0.626 and 0.716 vs. 0.610, respectively). CONCLUSIONS: Delayed PORT (>48 days) provides better survival benefit than early PORT among ESCC patients. PORT following 2-4 chemotherapy cycles might lead to the best survival rate. The nomogram plotted in this study effectively predicted survival and may help guide treatment.

Medical fungi polysaccharides belong to a very important species of biological macromolecules, which are the basic substances that effectively maintain and ensure the normal operation of biological life activities. However, research on extraction and biological activity of Inonotus cuticularis polysaccharides has never been reported. In this study, the optimum yield of Inonotus cuticularis polysaccharides was determined by the orthogonal experimental design. The highest yield of 3.10±0.06 % was obtained with extraction temperature of 80 °C, extraction time of 150 min, and water to raw material ratio of 30 mL/g and repeated twice. After deproteinization for 5 times, the protein removal rate reached 70.10±1.75 %, and the content of polysaccharides and protein were 46.64 and 0.42 %. Infrared spectrometer indicated that Inonotus cuticularis polysaccharides are typical ß-pyranose with characteristic peaks of polysaccharides. Subsequently, the activities of scavenging free radicals for the deproteinated polysaccharides were studied. When the concentration of Inonotus cuticularis polysaccharides was 0.3 mg/mL, the scavenging activities of the sample on DPPH. , . OH, ABTS.+ and O2 .- reached 83.67±0.27, 65.21±4.82, 43.45±1.36 and 80.28±2.30 %, respectively, and the reducing power reached 0.46±0.01. The IC50 values scavenging DPPH. , . OH, ABTS.+ and O2 .- were 0.139±0.13, 0.162±0.14, 0.317±0.30 and 0.121±0.10 mg/mL, respectively. Results showed that Inonotus cuticularis polysaccharides present potential stronger antioxidant activities, especially .OH scavenging activity and reducing power. Experimental results could provide research basis of Inonotus cuticularis polysaccharides for further exploitation and utilization.

Fenton's reagent, ultrasound, and the combination of Fenton's reagent and ultrasound were used to pretreat rice straw (RS) to increase its enzymatic digestibility for saccharification. The characterization shows that compared with ultrasound, Fenton's reagent pretreatment was more efficient in increasing the specific surface area and decreasing the degree of polymerization (DP) of RS. The enzymatic hydrolysis results showed that the RS pretreated by ultrasound-assisted Fenton's reagent (U/F-RS), which exhibited the largest specific surface area and the lowest DP value, had the highest enzymatic activity, and the amount of reducing sugar released from U/F-RS at 48h of enzymatic saccharification is about 4 times as large as that from raw RS and 1.5 times as large as that from Fenton's reagent pretreated RS. The ultrasound-assisted Fenton process provides a reliable and effective method for RS pretreatment.

In this study, the combined use of Fenton reagent and ultrasound to the pretreatment of microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) for subsequent enzyme hydrolysis was investigated. The morphological analysis showed that the aspect ratio of MCC was greatly reduced after pretreatment. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) and degree of polymerization (DP) analyses showed that Fenton reagent was more efficient in decreasing the crystallinity of MCC while ultrasound was more efficient in decreasing the DP of MCC. The combination of Fenton reaction and ultrasound, which produced the lowest crystallinity (84.8 ± 0.2%) and DP (124.7 ± 0.6) of MCC and the highest yield of reducing sugar (22.9 ± 0.3 g/100 g), provides a promising pretreatment process for MCC depolymerization.
