RESUMEN

Results of clinical trial of the new pyrimidine derivative--ximedone are presented. The drug was administered per os 0.5 g x 4 times a day (0.5 h before meals). Total course dose achieved 60 g. Ximedone implementation for complex treatment of burns, trophic ulcer of lower limbs, different inflammations demonstrated positive results. Prophylaxy administration of the drug in abdominal surgery at acute appendix resulted with lower incidence of postoperative complications. High efficacy and good tolerability of the drug allows to recommend it for wide medical use.

RESUMEN

An investigation of the antioxidant activity of blood plasma allowed a conclusion to be made of an alteration of the free radical processes in patients with chronic osteomyelitis. Experimental data on the influence of the antioxidants Xymedon and Methyluracil on the main free radicals, lipid peroxidation and chemiluminescence of peritoneal macrophages of rats allowed the substantiation of using the medicines in the complex treatment of patients in the pre- and postoperative periods. As a result, in 25 patients Xymedon improved the blood indices, increased antioxidant activity of plasma and reduced the amount of recurrences of the disease as compared with the patients taking Methyluracil.

RESUMEN

Effects of the pyrimidine derivatives of xymedone and methyluracil upon the induction of point mutations of the base pair substitution type in the Salmonella/microsome test and the frequency of chromosome aberrations in the lymphocytes of patients with the chronic osteomyelitis diagnosis. Xymedone more effectively than methyluracil inhibited the induction of point mutations by nitrosomethylurea. In the case of the cyclophosphane induced mutagenesis, the two preparations exhibited comparable antimutagen effects. Both xymedone and methyluracil (1.5 g/day, 10 days) reduced the (increased) frequency of chromosomal aberrations in the lymphocytes of patients with the chronic osteomyelitis diagnosis. The anticlastogenic effect of methyluracil vanished 5 days after termination of the 10-day administration course, while xymedone exhibited an afteraction anticlastogenic effect over this period. Interrelation of the antimutagen effect and immunomodulating activity of xymedone is discussed.

RESUMEN

It was established in experiments on albino unbred mice and during treatment of patients with osteomyelitis that 30 mg/kg of ximidon suppresses the formation of micronuclear polychromatophilic erythrocytes found in the bone marrow of mice and peripheral blood of patients with chronic osteomyelitis. The interrelationship of the results obtained with the modulating effect of ximidon on the mitochondrial, thiol, and adenylate cyclase-dependent mechanisms of cell regulation is discussed.

RESUMEN

While studying the parameters of "narrow" and "broad" lines appearing in Mössbauer spectra of undehydrated membrane proteins heated from 80 to 280 K it has been for the first time found for proteins that the behavior of the complete area of spectrum S does not differ from that of Debye-Waller factor. An abrupt decrease of quadrupole splitting value from delta = 0.7 mm/s to delta = 0 within the temperature range 220-270 K. Computation of the spectra with their division into 3 components responding respectively by heat, diffusion and conformational movement made possible explanation of all the evolutionary changes proceeding in them with the temperature rise. Preservation of the complete area of the spectrum S (T) is conditioned by the increase of the component responsive to conformational changes of Fe atom within 230-270 K. These movements "suppress" quadrupole splitting observed in the spectra at low temperatures. Dynamic mobility is considered in terms of the Fe atom movement in the biphase potential.
