RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to enhance awareness among healthcare professionals about the application of guidelines relating to the management of venous thromboembolism (VTE) in cancer patients. METHODS: This collective approach involved: the Regional Health Agency (ARS), the Unions of Representatives of Healthcare Professionals (URPS), the Observatory of Drugs, the Medical Devices and Therapeutic Innovation agency (OMEDIT), the regional Oncology Network and specialist physicians. Performance indicators were defined to evaluate the actions performed. RESULTS: Multidisciplinary information meetings were organized. A standardized patient's folder was proposed in all healthcare institutions dealing with cancer, as a link between healthcare professionals and patients. Information brochures were prepared for healthcare professionals and patients. Web-based surveys were taken among healthcare professionals to evaluate changes in their knowledge and practices before and after the first actions taken. CONCLUSION: This collective approach improved the awareness of health professionals about care practices for VTE in cancer patients.

RESUMEN

Rectal procidentia represents classically only 2% of rectal prolapse in children. This rarity is more apparent than real, because peritoneographies showing the excess of migration of the rectogenital pouch, allows to diagnose more often this pathology. The normal trend of this anomaly of the infant and the young child even if it could be serious with strangulation is usually a spontaneous healing. Accordingly therapeutic indications should be cautious. Surgery is only indicated in confirmed or complicated forms. After analysis of the statistic of 52 observations, the modified Lockhart-Mummery is our prefered procedure. It needs a short and simple surgery and the results appear satisfactory.

RESUMEN

From four pelvic cavities of adults (2 males and 2 females) and one of neonate the authors studies structures between rectum ventrally and sacrum dorsally. Always they found an avascular space behind the perirectal fascia in which were embedded arteries of rectum and above the presacral fascia with inside median sacral artery and sympathic trunks. This avascular space permit to made there surgically procedures such Lockart-Mummery to attach rectum to sacrum.

RESUMEN

Musculo cutaneous flaps help to cover the important tissues defects of the pressure sore. During 1988, two of our patients in general bad conditions, needed a quick simple treatment for bed sores involving joints. The patients, one who was paraplegic, the other tetraplegic, were suffering from joint lesions in the elbow and both knees. We carried out a musculo cutaneous flap of the brachio radialis and two of the gastrocnemius medialis, once septic conditions had improved. The simple procedure by transfer assured the cover of the skin defect. The results of the treatment being successful allow us to suggest this type of treatment being used in general traumatologic lesions affecting the elbow and knee joints.

RESUMEN

Exceptional pathology whose preoperative diagnosis is based upon clinical and radiological signs; the herniation through the foramen of Winslow is a variety of internal herniation. About three recent cases observed in the service, it seemed interesting to see, reviewing literature, what are the diagnostic characters and therapeutic modalities knowing difficulties because of a quasi exclusive vascular collect.

RESUMEN

One case of "idiopathic pneumoperitoneum" following closed thoraco abdominal injury, primitively associated with a pneumopericardium is reported. No etiology was discovered about these two aeric effusions. Also it was interesting to compare this experience with literature to know frequency of such association; physiopathologic mechanism responsible and management of the described other cases.

RESUMEN

A variant of the Lockhart Mummery operation for complete rectal prolapse in children is described. The modification consists of inserting a polyglactin mesh in the retrorectal presacral space. Nine children have been operated upon and followed up, some of them for more than 2 years. The immediate and long-term post-operative course has been satisfactory in all cases.

RESUMEN

Cervical tumors of thymic origin are exceptional and can be either cystic or solid. The embryogenesis of the thymic gland explains the cervical location of these tumors. The authors present two cases in which the clinical picture was limited to cervical masses with very few symptoms. Treatment consisted of surgical removal. Subsequent course was uneventful without any immunological deficit or myasthenia.
