ABSTRACT: Whether a fish-rich diet is positively associated with cognitive function after stroke remains unclear; thus, the present study investigated the relationship between them.The present study was part of a prospective multicenter study, in which 920 individuals (609 males, mean age, 62.78 ±â€Š11.79 years) were included from November 2013 to December 2015. The cognitive function of the patients was evaluated, and the diagnosis of poststroke cognitive impairment (PSCI) was made during their stay in the hospital. A subgroup of 439 patients from a single center was followed up for 4 to 6 years and was reassessed for cognitive function.According to the diagnostic criteria, the PSCI prevalence was lower in the fish-rich diet group (P < .05). After adjusting for demographic and clinical variables by logistic regression, patients with a habit of consuming a fish-rich diet had a lower risk of developing PSCI than patients without a fish-rich diet (odds ratio [OR]: 0.74; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.46-0.95). When MMSE score was considered the cognitive function outcome variable, the long-term cognitive function of the fish-rich diet group was better (28 [26-30] vs 27 [25-29], P < .01), but the statistical results were not significant after correcting for the related confounding factors (ß: 0.13; 95% CI: -0.99-1.25; P = .82).There was a negative relationship between consuming a fish-rich diet and the prevalence of PSCI, and there was no statistically significant difference in the relationship of a fish-rich diet on long-term cognitive function after stroke, which requires further study.

BACKGROUND: Quantitative analysis of mitral valve morphology with three-dimensional (3D) transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) provides anatomic information that can assist clinical decision-making. However, routine use of mitral valve quantification has been hindered by tedious workflow and high operator-dependence. The purpose of this paper was to evaluate the feasibility, accuracy and efficiency of a novel computer-learning algorithm using anatomical intelligence in ultrasound (AIUS) to automatically detect and quantitatively assess the mitral valve anatomy. METHODS: A novice operator used AIUS to quantitatively assess mitral valve anatomy on the 3D TEE images of 55 patients (33 with mitral valve prolapse, 11 with functional mitral regurgitation, and 11 normal valves). The results were compared to that of manual mitral valve quantification by an experienced 3D echocardiographer and, in the 24 patients who underwent mitral valve repair, the surgical findings. Time consumption and reproducibility of AIUS were compared to the manual method. RESULTS: AIUS mitral valve quantification was feasible in 52 patients (95%). There were excellent agreements between AIUS and expert manual quantification for all mitral valve anatomic parameters (r=0.85-0.99, p<0.05). AIUS accurately classified surgically defined location of prolapse in 139 of 144 segments analyzed (97%). AIUS improved the intra- [intraclass-correlation coefficient (ICC)=0.91-0.99] and inter-observer (ICC=0.86-0.98) variability of novice users, surpassing the manual approach (intra-observer ICC=0.32-0.95; inter-observer ICC=0.45-0.93), yet requiring significantly less time (144±24s vs. 770±89s, p<0.0001). CONCLUSION: Anatomic intelligence in 3D TEE image can provide accurate, reproducible, and rapid quantification of the mitral valve anatomy.

Patients with diabetes mellitus exhibit peripheral arterioles lesions that is associated with reduced blood flow. Here, we intended to assess the acral arterioles lesion in patients with type 2 diabetes based on the rate of blood flow by multigate spectral Doppler ultrasonography. Fifty-two patients with type 2 DM were divided into two groups. Group 1 included 13 men and 12 women with an average age of 60.60 ± 14.03 years and a duration of type 2 diabetes for 2.44 ± 1.50 years. Group 2 included 17 men and 11 women with an average age of 64.25 ± 10.84 years and type 2 diabetes for 12.57 ± 6.26 years. Age-matched control subjects (n = 52) were recruited (30 men and 22 woman, mean age of 61.19 ± 10.38 years). A multigate spectral Doppler algorithm was applied to the acral finger of the thumb of the right hand to test the arteriole diameter and hemodynamic parameters, including diameter of the acral finger arterioles (D), area of the blood flow profile of the acral finger arterioles (A max) and hemodynamic parameters. Patients with diabetes exhibited a significant reduction in the arteriole diameter (1.63 ± 0.18 and 1.57 ± 0.22 mm, respectively, P < 0.001 for both) compared to control subjects (2.09 ± 0.17 mm). A max were significantly reduced in patients with diabetes (61.35 ± 10.66 mm(2)/s for group 1 and 46.50 ± 6.59 mm(2)/s for group 2, P < 0.001 for both) compared to that in control subjects (77.93 ± 12.37 mm(2)/s). Furthermore, a significant difference in Amax was found between group 1 and group 2 (P < 0.001). The vascular resistance index (RI) was significantly higher in both patient groups 0.58 ± 0.06 for group 1 (P < 0.001) and 0.64 ± 0.07 for group 2 (P < 0.001) than that in control subjects (0.48 ± 0.04). The RI value of the acral finger arterioles differed significantly between group 1 and group 2 (P < 0.01). Diabetic patients exhibited a weak blood flow in the acral finger arterioles. The multigate spectral Doppler technology can be used to test blood flow in the acral finger arterioles and provide hemodynamic data for systematic analyses of the peripheral arteriole lesions in diabetes.

Single crystals of the title polyoxometallate-based organic-inorganic hybrid, [Cu(C(12)H(8)N(2))(2)](4)[SiW(12)O(40)], were grown under hydro-thermal conditions. The discrete [SiW(12)O(40)](4-) anions are of the Keggin type and are packed in a slightly distorted ortho-rhom-bic F-centred mode, with the complex [Cu(I)(phen)(2)](+) cations (phen is 1,10-phenanthroline) located in the voids of this arrangement. The four independent Cu(I) cations are situated in the centres of more or less distorted tetra-hedra made up of N atoms from the phen ligands. The anions and cations are linked together via weak hydrogen-bonding inter-actions, forming an extended three-dimensional network. Additional stabilization is achieved via π-π inter-actions between different phen mol-ecules of adjacent [Cu(I)(phen)(2)](+) cations with shortest distances between 3.416 and 3.499 Å.
