RESUMEN

During the early stages of the outbreak, insufficient attention was paid to the impact on sexual function, which is logical in the face of potentially harmful and fatal infections. It is well documented that any close contact (6 feet or 2 m) with an infected person can result in exposure to SARS-CoV-2 so while coronavirus disease: (COVID-19) may not be "sexually transmitted" (through semen or vaginal fluids) the risks of proximal exposure are great-whether the activity is engaged in is sexual or not. For the last 3-4 months, scientific studies have shown that a mild or severe coronavirus infection can lead to sexual complications and prolonged libido problems as well as erectile dysfunction. Besides, following some barrier gestures during "face-to-face" sexual intercourse can be challenging. This paper focuses on the construction and prefiguration of a new paradigm of sexuality that distinguishes and associates sexual relations that take place in the presence of a real partner and those that take place within the context of a range of digital environments qualified as "virtual" that can provide safe contexts for erotic imagination and intimacy while both communicating and maintaining arousal. Together, they offer a vehicle for fantasy and entertainment of sexual arousal towards private pleasure.

This study was designed to investigate environmental colonisation in Algerian hospitals by carbapenem-resistant Gram-negative bacilli (GNB), including molecular characterisation of their resistance, and to perform a comparative molecular analysis between clinical and environmental strains. GNB isolated from hospitalised patients and the hospital environment were identified using microbiological methods and matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionisation time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF/MS). Antibiotic susceptibility testing was performed by disk diffusion and Etest methods. Carbapenemase- and extended-spectrum ß-lactamase (ESBL)-encoding genes were searched for using PCR and sequencing. Clonality of the environmental and clinical strains was assessed by multilocus sequencing typing (MLST). A total of 32 carbapenem-resistant GNB were isolated, including 16 (29%) of 56 multidrug-resistant (MDR) GNB from clinical specimens and 16 (48%) of 33 MDR-GNB from inanimate surfaces. Of the 32 carbapenem-resistant isolates, 14 produced a carbapenemase. The blaOXA-48 gene was detected both in clinical and surface isolates of Klebsiella pneumoniae (n=3) and Enterobacter cloacae (n=2). Clinical and surface isolates of Acinetobacter baumannii were found to produce the carbapenemases NDM-1 (7 isolates) and OXA-23 (2 isolates). MLST revealed clonal diversity and a relationship between environmental and clinical strains with identical sequence types. Here we report the first description of an OXA-48-producing E. cloacae isolate in Algeria. We also highlight the important role of inanimate surfaces in the spread of carbapenem-resistant bacteria and the emergence of nosocomial infections.

In Bacillus subtilis the Pho regulon is controlled by a sensor and regulator protein pair, PhoR and PhoP, that respond to phosphate concentrations. To facilitate studies of the Pho regulon, a strain with an altered PhoR protein was isolated by in vitro mutagenesis. The mutation in this strain (phoR12) leads to the production of a PhoR sensor kinase that, unlike the wild-type, is functionally active in phosphate-replete conditions. The lesion in PhoR12 was shown to be a single base change that results in an Arg to Ser substitution in a region of PhoR that is highly conserved in histidine sensor kinases. While a phoR-negative mutant was unable to induce the synthesis of cell wall teichuronic acid under phosphate-limited conditions, the phoR12 mutant showed a relative increase in teichuronic acid and a decrease in teichoic acid, even under phosphate-replete conditions. The latter suggests that some or all of the genes required for teichuronic acid synthesis are members of the Pho regulon.
