RESUMEN

A series of ferrocenes which contain dinitrogen-fused pyrazolidinone ring were synthesized from acryloylferrocene (4) and N,N'cyclic azomethine imines (3). Novel 5aryl6ferrocenoyltetrahydropyrazolo[1,2a]pyrazol1(5H)-ones were obtained as mixtures of two diastereoisomers (trans and cis) which were separated and isolated as pure substances. Ortho-substituted N,N'cyclic azomethine imines 5-oxo-2-(2,4,6-trimethylbenzylidene)pyrazolidin-2-ium-1-ide (3e) and 2-(2-methoxybenzylidene)-5-oxopyrazolidin-2-ium-1-ide (3f) reacted stereoselectively affording only trans-6-ferrocenoyl-5-mesityltetrahydropyrazolo[1,2-a]pyrazol-1(5H)-one (5e) and 6-ferrocenoyl-5-(2-methoxyphenyl)tetrahydropyrazolo[1,2-a]pyrazol-1(5H)-one (5f). Ferrocenyl derivatives were screened for in vitro antioxidant and antifungal activities and excellent DPPH and ABTS radicals scavenging activity was observed with majority of tested 5aryl6ferrocenoyltetrahydropyrazolo[1,2a]pyrazol1(5H)-ones. Several tested compounds showed selective scavenging properties neutralizing ABTS•+ radical cations in contrast to inactivity toward DPPH radicals. Trans-5-aryl-6-ferrocenoyltetrahydropyrazolo[1,2-a]pyrazol-1(5H)-ones 5b, 5c, 5d, 5j as well as cis-6-ferrocenoyl-5-(p-tolyl)tetrahydropyrazolo[1,2-a]pyrazol-1(5H)-one (6d) displayed fungal growth inhibition at low concentration against C. albicans and/or A. brasiliensis. Molecular docking studies revealed that the cis-6-ferrocenoyl-5-(4-nitrophenyl)tetrahydropyrazolo[1,2-a]pyrazol-1(5H)-one (6l) and cis-6-ferrocenoyl-5-(naphthalen-2-yl)tetrahydropyrazolo[1,2-a]pyrazol-1(5H)-one (6n) have potential to become lead molecules in drug discovery process.

RESUMEN

We report herein the results of the cross-cultural adaptation and validation into the Serbian language of the parentís version of two health related quality of life instruments. The Childhood Health Assessment Questionnaire (CHAQ) is a disease specific health instrument that measures functional ability in daily living activities in children with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA). The Child Health Questionnaire (CHQ) is a generic health instrument designed to capture the physical and psychosocial well-being of children independently from the underlying disease. The Serbian CHAQ-CHQ were fully validated with 3 forward and 1 backward translations. A total of 139 subjects were enrolled: 79 patients with JIA (30% systemic onset, 28% polyarticular onset, 6% extended oligoarticular subtype, and 36% persistent oligoarticular subtype) and 60 healthy children. The CHAQ clinically discriminated between healthy subjects and JIA patients, with the systemic, polyarticular and extended oligoarticular subtypes having a higher degree of disability, pain, and a lower overall well-being when compared to their healthy peers. Also the CHQ clinically discriminated between healthy subjects and JIA patients, with the systemic onset, polyarticular onset and extended oligoarticular subtypes having a lower physical and psychosocial well-being when compared to their healthy peers. In conclusion the Serbian version of the CHAQ-CHQ is a reliable, and valid tool for the functional, physical and psychosocial assessment of children with JIA.

RESUMEN

This paper was intended to present clinicopathological findings of 31 cases with central giant cell granuloma of the jaws (CGCG) as well as the prognostic significance of the histologically confirmed cortical perforation. The subjects of the study were 22 females and 7 males with age range from 7 to 69 years. CGCG occurred predominantly in the premolar and intercanine region of both jaws. In one case multifocal lesions were found. Microscopically all lesions showed a fibrovascular stroma and multinucleated giant cells of the osteoclastic type. Cortical perforation and soft tissue extension were observed in seven cases. Treatment consisted of curettage in 29 cases and en bloc resection in one case. Lesions recurred in five cases. All lesions that recurred showed microscopically confirmed cortical perforation at the time of the first occurrence. It is concluded that cortical perforation has a prognostic significance in the recurrence of CGCG and when it is observed at operation curettage should be vigorous.

RESUMEN

Liposarcomas of the oral tissues are rare. There have been 28 previously reported in the literature. A clinicopathologic study of 4 patients with liposarcoma involving the oral tissues is presented--one in the tongue, one in the palate, and two in the submandibular space. Two of the tumors were myxoid, one was of well-differentiated type and one was of pleomorphic type. Three of the lesions were diagnosed clinically as benign. The most important lesson to be learned from the histopathology is the positive identification of atypical lipoblasts. Follow-up data indicate that prognosis generally corresponds to the tumor type. The patients with myxoid and well-differentiated liposarcoma remain alive and with no evidence of disease. The patient who died of tumor had a pleomorphic liposarcoma. Treatment of these lesions should consist of wide surgical excision and consideration of adjunctive or palliative radiotherapy.

RESUMEN

The DNA from 17 specimens of pleomorphic adenoma of the salivary glands was screened for the presence of ras gene mutations, which are known to be involved in the pathogenesis of various human neoplasias. By a sensitive method of hybridization with synthetic oligonucleotide probes on in vitro amplified tumor DNA, point mutations, mainly in codon 12 of the H-ras gene, were detected in six tumor specimens (35%). This high incidence of mutated ras genes suggests that their alteration may play a role in the pathogenesis of pleomorphic adenomas.

RESUMEN

The case of a 37-year-old woman with primary acinic cell carcinoma arising in an intraparotid lymph node is presented. The patient is free of disease 20 months after superficial parotidectomy. This is probably the first histologically documented case of acinic cell carcinoma arising from intranodal salivary gland tissue. Awareness of possible malignant alteration of ectopic salivary gland tissue in lymph nodes is essential.

RESUMEN

A 61-year-old man with a malignant mixed tumor of the parotid gland with metastasis to two lymph nodes of the digastric triangle is presented. This represents the first case of carcinoma ex-pleomorphic adenoma in which the metastases simultaneously contain elements that have both benign- and malignant-appearing histologic patterns.

RESUMEN

A case of well-differentiated liposarcoma with floret-like multinucleated giant cells in a 59-year-old woman who presented with supraclavicular mass is described. On the biopsy section, the mass had an appearance consistent with a pleomorphic lipoma. Multiple microscopic sections revealed the pathognomic features of a well-differentiated liposarcoma.

RESUMEN

50 cases of squamous cell carcinoma of the lower lip were analyzed histologically. Surgical specimens were examined for presence tumor-infiltrating leukocytes and pattern of stromal invasion. The estimation of the characteristics of local immune reaction was performed at the interface of the tumor and underlying tissues at the site of deepest penetration. As a result, there was a significant inverse correlation between degree of tumor-infiltrating leukocytes and pattern of invasion. Marked of tumor-infiltrating leukocytes is a manifestation of efficiently host immune response to the tumor.

RESUMEN

Twelve cases of verrucous carcinoma of the orofacial region were reviewed for their clinical and pathological characteristics. Verrucous carcinoma made 3.5% of all primary epidermoid carcinoma observed during the period of investigation. The tumour occurred chiefly in older patients (from 25 to 81 years, mean age 57.5) and more often in males than in females (9 males: 3 females). The most common site of occurrence was the vermilion surface of the lower lip (seven cases). Macroscopic appearance of lesions was reported as exophytic, warty, and white. Microscopically, the thickened epithelium was well differentiated and stratification was preserved. Rete pegs of carcinoma were broad and blunt; they also appeared to "puch" into underlying tissues. Basement membrane appeared to be intact. Cells of tumours were displayed, and histologic features of the spectrum were generally associated with viral modification. The prognosis in verrucous carcinoma is very good, because of the absence of metastases. Radiotherapy should not be used, since not only local recurrence is common, but also anaplastic changes may occur with corresponding aggressive behaviour and metastasis.

RESUMEN

Primary intraosseous carcinoma (P1OC) of the jaws is rare. They either arise de novo or as a consequence of malignant transformation of a benign cyst or tumor. A 56-year-old patient with a P1OC of the mandible arising from an odontogenic keratocyst is described.
