BACKGROUND AND AIM: Mucopolysaccharidosis (MPS) type IV, referred to as Morquio A syndrome (MAS), is a rare genetic disorder characterized by an insufficient level in the storage of glycosaminoglycans within lysosomes. Diagnosis generally depends on clinical examination, skeletal radiographs, and histochemical tests. The condition is characterized by prominent skeletal deformities, limited joint mobility, significant growth impairment, abnormalities in tooth alignment, and defects in tooth enamel. The present clinical case report aims to provide details of a MAS case with peculiar dental findings, including multiple taurodonts where emergency dental treatment was rendered. CASE REPRESENTATION: A 16-year-old girl with short stature and prominent facial characteristics reported severe pain in the right maxillary back region. Clinical examination revealed multiple areas of alveolar bone loss, decayed #36, and temporary restoration on #16. Radiographic examination indicated multiple posterior teeth with taurodontism. Past medical history was confirmative of Morquio syndrome. Treating taurodonts endodontically is challenging due to the enlarged pulp chamber, shortened roots, and constricted root canal anatomy. Motorized canal preparation and the use of bioceramic sealer with single cone obturation were done to achieve the best results. CONCLUSION: The present case report encountered difficulty locating and negotiating the root canals and establishing the glide path. Using a dental operating microscope and stiff hand files for glide path and short-length Niti rotary files helped achieve the desired results. Although MPS IV is not frequently seen in dental practice, persons with this syndrome can continue to have good oral and overall health if their dental and medical condition if appropriately managed.

A precursor for effective root canal treatment (RCT) is a complete understanding of the internal anatomy of teeth. In this study, the authors aimed to classify the root canal morphology of anterior teeth in the Yemeni population and identify gender-based variations among them. In addition, the symmetry among adjacent quadrants was also evaluated. Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans of 2935 anterior teeth, 1502 maxillary, and 1433 mandibular were analyzed for root canal morphology and symmetry. Comparison between groups and among different genders was done using the Chi-square test. All the maxillary teeth were single-rooted and had a predominantly 1TN1 (Vertucci Type I) canal morphology. In addition to 1TN1, the presence of 1TN1-2-1 (Vertucci type III) and 1TN1-2-1-2-1 (not classified NC according to Vertucci) morphologies were noticed in the maxillary canines. Among the mandibular anteriors, the canal morphologies identified include 1TN1 in majority of the scans followed by 1TN2-1 (Vertucci II), 1TN1-2-1, 1TN1-2 (Vertucci V), 1TN1-2-1-2 (Vertucci VII) was seen only in incisors and newer canal types like 1TN2-1-2-1 (NC Vertucci) and 1TN1-2-1-2-1 (NC Vertucci) was seen in canines and lateral incisors. Two roots were only seen in the mandibular canines and classified as 2TN1-2 (NC Vertucci). Variations in root and root canal morphologies were seen among both genders. However, the results were not significant. All the maxillary teeth except 0.8% were bilaterally symmetrical. In mandible, symmetry ranged between 84.5 and 86.5%. In conclusion, single-rooted teeth with 1TN1 classification are most commonly seen in all the anterior teeth. Gender-based differences were non-significant, and bilateral symmetry was high. Ahmed et al. classification could precisely represent the root canal morphology in two rooted teeth.

BACKGROUND Understanding the root canal morphology is important for successful endodontic treatment. This retrospective cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) study aimed to compare the adult maxillary premolars (MP), root, and canal morphology among a Saudi Arabian subpopulation based on Vertucci and Ahmed classifications. MATERIAL AND METHODS Scans of 1336 MP - 656 first premolars (MFP) and 680 second premolars (MSP) - were analyzed for the number of roots, morphology of the canals, and symmetry among them. The data were grouped based on the traditional preestablished Vertucci system and newer instantaneous code-based Ahmed classification. Comparative analysis was done using the chi-square test. RESULTS Two roots were common in MFP with 84.4% of the population, followed by those with 1 root and those with 3 roots. In MSP, single roots were more common. The results were non-significant with P values of 0.859 and 0.471, respectively. Most of these MFP had Type IV Vertucci configuration/²TNB¹P¹ Ahmed et al code (TN-tooth number, B-buccal canal, P-palatal canal). In MSP, Type I Vertucci/¹TN¹ Ahmed et al code was most common. However, the results were not statistically significant for the PM with P values of 0.997 and 0.732, respectively. Sex-based difference among them for the roots and root canals was also non-significant. Symmetry among PM in opposite quadrants was 87.1% in MFP and 90% in MSP. CONCLUSIONS Two roots with Type IV (²TNB¹P¹) and 1 root with Type I (¹TN¹) were most common in MFP and MSP, respectively. Symmetry among opposing PM was high.

BACKGROUND Material selection is crucial in restorative dentistry, influenced by aesthetics, material properties, and tooth location. This understanding is key for advancing dental practices and patient outcomes. The present study aimed to assess dentists' preferences for restorative materials in single-tooth crowns (SC) and how abutment tooth location and preparation margins influence these choices. MATERIAL AND METHODS A web-based pre-validated questionnaire survey was conducted among 811 actively practicing dentists in Saudi Arabia. RESULTS In posterior teeth, we found that ceramic was the most preferred material for SC regardless of the abutment tooth location and location of margins, followed by porcelain fused to metal (PFMs). In anterior teeth, ceramics were preferred, followed by CAD/CAM-based resin SC. Among the choice of ceramics in teeth for both supra-gingival margins, monolith zirconia was the most-preferred material for SC fabrication in posterior teeth, followed by zirconia-reinforced lithium silicate ceramic. Similarly, for sub-gingival margins, monolith zirconia crowns were the most popular option in posterior teeth among the respondents, with the highest in the mandibular molar region. In the anterior region, layered zirconia was the least preferred, and lithium disilicate ceramics was the most-favored option. A statistically significant difference existed between supra- and subgingival preparation for teeth 11 (P=0.01), 16 (P=0.03), and 34 (P=0.02). CONCLUSIONS Ceramic was the material of choice among Saudi dentists for replacement of SC, irrespective of the location and preparation margin. Monolith zirconia was usually selected for posterior teeth and lithium disilicate ceramics was the top choice in anterior teeth.
