PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to report the clinical profile and patterns of recurrence after femtosecond laser-assisted anterior lamellar keratoplasty (FALK) in Reis-Bucklers corneal dystrophy. METHODS: This is a case series of 5 eyes of 4 patients with Reis-Bucklers corneal dystrophy. Clinical images of recurrence were correlated with the high-resolution optical coherence tomography. Histopathologic examination of excised corneal samples was performed when possible. RESULTS: The median time to recurrence was 2 (1-5) years after FALK. Of the 5 eyes, 1 eye had primary FALK, whereas 4 eyes had secondary interventions, which included previous phototherapeutic keratectomy (once in 1 eye and twice in 2 eyes), and previous penetrating keratoplasty, followed by phototherapeutic keratectomy (1 eye). Recurrence was noted at the level of the subepithelium. In addition, 1 eye showed interface deposits along with epithelial downgrowth at the graft-host bed. CONCLUSIONS: The 2 distinct patterns of recurrence noted were at the subepithelial region and the interface. The clinical patterns of recurrence favor an epithelial origin of recurrent deposits.

The aim of this study was to retrospectively determine clinical features, treatment outcomes, and overall survival in four patients with metastatic retinoblastoma at presentation. The mean age at diagnosis was 63 months (range: 24-108 months). Three patients had overt orbital disease of at least one eye and one patient had microscopic orbital disease with scleral infiltration on histopathology. Metastatic sites included regional lymph nodes (RLN) (n = 4), bone marrow (BM) (n = 2), and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) (n = 1). The most common sites of RLN were ipsilateral preauricular nodes (two patients) and contralateral parotid gland involvement (one patient). The treatment administered included primary enucleation (n = 1), high-dose intravenous chemotherapy (n = 4), secondary enucleation (n = 2), orbital external beam radiotherapy (n = 3), and intrathecal chemotherapy (n = 1). High-risk features included massive choroidal and microscopic scleral infiltration in the eye that underwent primary enucleation. At a mean follow-up of 33 months (range, 4-68 months), one patient with CSF involvement deceased in 4 months. The remaining three patients were alive and disease-free at the last mean follow-up period of 43 months (range, 18-68 months). The results of our study showed that RLN and BM metastasis respond well to treatment while CSF metastasis is associated with poor prognosis.

A patient in his sixth decade presented to us with redness, pain and a deterioration of vision in his left eye. He had previously been diagnosed with lattice corneal dystrophy (LCD). He was diagnosed with microbial keratitis, and mixed infection was confirmed on culture (bacteria and fungus) with a protracted healing period before resolution of keratitis. He presented 2 years later with similar issues in the same eye and was noted to have a second episode of microbial keratitis, with microsporidia spores noted on gram, potassium hydroxide and calcofluor white stains. He was diagnosed with microsporidial stromal keratitis and underwent therapeutic penetrating keratoplasty. Unfortunately, he suffered a recurrence of microsporidial keratitis following surgery with eventual transplant failure. Microsporidia as an infection in LCD has, to our knowledge, not been previously reported. We aim to discuss microsporidial infection and recurrent microbial keratitis in the setting of LCD.

Purpose: To identify the genes and pathways responsible for treatment resistance (TR) in retinoblastoma (RB) by analyzing serum small extracellular vesicles (sEVs) of patients with TR active RB (TR-RB) and completely regressed RB (CR-RB). Methods: Serum-derived sEVs were characterized by transmission electron microscopy and nanoparticle tracking analysis. sEV transcriptome profiles of two TR-RB and one CR-RB with good response (>20 years tumor free) were compared to their age-matched controls (n = 3). Gene expression data were analyzed by the R Bioconductor package. The CD9 protein and mRNA expression of CD9, CD63, and CD81 were studied in five RB tumors and two control retinae by immunohistochemistry and quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction. Results: The isolated serum sEVs were round shaped and within the expected size (30-150 nm), and they had zeta potentials ranging from -10.8 to 15.9 mV. The mean ± SD concentrations of sEVs for two adults and four children were 1.1 × 1012 ± 0.1 and 5.8 × 1011 ± 1.7 particles/mL. Based on log2 fold change of ±2 and P < 0.05 criteria, there were 492 dysregulated genes in TR-RB and 184 in CR-RB. KAT2B, VWA1, CX3CL1, MLYCD, NR2F2, USP46-AS1, miR6724-4, and LINC01257 genes were specifically dysregulated in TR-RB. Negative regulation of apoptotic signaling, cell growth, and proton transport genes were greater than fivefold expressed only in TR-RB. CD9, CD63, and CD81 mRNA levels were high in RB tumors versus control retina, with increased and variable CD9 immunoreactivity in the invasive areas of the tumor. Conclusions: Serum sEVs could serve as a potential liquid biopsy source for understanding TR mechanisms in RB.

Purpose: To describe the outcomes of eyes with calcium carbide (CaC2)-related thermo-chemical injury. Methods: This study included 28 eyes of 23 patients who presented with calcium carbide-related ocular burns. Only patients with more than three months of follow-up were included. Group A included 16 eyes with Dua's Grade I-III burns, while Group B included 12 eyes with Grade IV-VI burns. Electronic medical records were reviewed to provide data on the etiology of burn, presenting clinical signs and visual acuity, sequelae, and surgical interventions performed, both in the acute and chronic phases. Results: The overall mean age was 28.48 ± 11.8 years. Fifteen patients were injured while using carbide to create an explosion to scare away animals on farms. The median presenting BCVA (best-corrected visual acuity) in Group A (20/160) was significantly better than in Group B [(20/2000) (P = 0.002)]. Five eyes in Group A and one eye in Group B underwent medical management. There was no difference in the duration of follow-up for both groups (P = 0.24). The median final BCVA in Group A (20/32) was significantly better than in Group B [(20/200) (P = 0.02)]. Two eyes in Group A and nine eyes in Group B developed LSCD. Two eyes in Group B were phthisical at the last visit. Conclusion: Calcium carbide-related ocular injuries can result in significant visual morbidity in young adults. Early presentation and management may improve outcomes. Prevention of these injuries by increasing awareness and increasing advocacy efforts is necessary.

Aim: To conduct a comparative, nonrandomized study to assess the feasibility of mini-Endoscopic Combined Intrarenal Surgery (ECIRS) using supine Mini-percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) access (16F) in Galdakao-Modified Supine Valdivia position for managing proximal large-volume impacted ureteral calculi as ambulatory day-care surgery vis-a-vis standalone ureteroscopy (URS) with push-back PCNL, if needed. The primary aim was to study the outcomes and stone-free rates (SFRs). Secondary aim was to compare the intraoperative and short-term postoperative complications. Materials and Methods: Data of 60 patients undergoing ECIRS (Group 1) from January 2016 to December 2019 were collected prospectively in a nonrandomized fashion from a single center after Ethics Committee approval. A matched-paired analysis was performed with retrospectively collated data of 60 patients undergoing standard URS/pushback PCNL (Group 2) using analysis of variance, Fisher's exact test, and Chi-square test. p < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Outcomes and Results: Group 1 patients had a significantly shorter procedure time vs Group 2 (42.1 ± 11.2 minutes vs 52.1 ± 13.7 minutes; p < 0.001). Group 1 (59/60) patients had an overall single stage SFR of 98.3%, which was significantly higher than single-stage SFR of 83% in Group 2 (50/60) (p < 0.002). Group 2 patients had a higher incidence of fever (10 vs 4, p = 0.01). However, there were no cases of sepsis in either group. Rest of the complications were comparable for both, as the need for ancillary procedures was significantly higher in Group 2 (10% vs 1.7%, p < 0.001). Patients were discharged on the same day in both groups. Conclusions: The findings of our study suggest that, in large and impacted proximal ureteric stones, combined minimally invasive endoscopic approach offers the best option to render the patient stone free by a single intervention. With better intra- and postoperative outcomes and safety profile, Mini-ECIRS may be considered as an ambulatory procedure in this setting.

PURPOSE: To describe the risk factors, clinical features, histopathology, treatment, and outcomes of patients with orbital tumour extension of ocular surface squamous neoplasia (OSSN). METHODS: Retrospective study of 51 patients with orbital tumour extension (cases) and 360 patients without orbital extension (controls). RESULTS: Of 1,653 patients with OSSN, orbital tumour extension was noted in 51 (3%) cases. The risk factors for orbital tumour extension included outdoor occupation (p < 0.03; Odds ratio (OR) = 1.96), Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infection (p < 0.0001; OR = 5.81), prolonged duration of symptoms (p = 0.01; OR = 1.02), tumour bilaterality (p = 0.02; OR = 2.92), forniceal and tarsal conjunctival involvement, diffuse tumour (p < 0.0001; OR = 9.13), inferior quadrantic location (p < 0.0001; OR = 7.51), increased tumour thickness (p = 0.04; OR = 1.59), higher % of ocular surface involvement (p = 0.002; OR = 1.12), nodular (p = 0.002; OR = 2.61) and nodulo-ulcerative (p < 0.0001; OR = 11.05) tumour morphology, poorly differentiated tumours (p = 0.006; OR = 4.23); invasive squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) (p < 0.0001; OR = 29.76), spindle cell and mucoepidermoid variant (p = 0.02; OR = 16.94) tumours. At a mean follow-up period of 27 months, tumour recurrence in the socket was noted in 1 (2%), locoregional lymph node metastasis (LNM) in 15 (29%) patients, and nine (18%) patients died due to systemic metastasis (SM). T4 tumour at presentation was a risk factor for LNM (p = 0.01; Hazard ratio (HR) = 5.60) and SM (p = 0.0003; HR = 5.09). CONCLUSION: Orbital extension of OSSN is rare. Outdoor occupation, HIV infection, larger and thicker tumours in the inferior quadrant with forniceal and/or tarsal conjunctival involvement with nodular or noduloulcerative morphology, poor tumour differentiation, SCC, spindle cell and mucoepidermoid variants on histopathology are at increased risk for orbital tumour extension.

INTRODUCTION: Retinoblastoma (Rb) is an early childhood intraocular tumor of the retina and is managed by multimodal therapeutic approaches. Recent advanced targeted delivery of chemotherapeutic drugs to the eye has improved the possibility of globe salvage. However, enucleation is inevitable for advanced and recurrent Rb. The cumulative knowledge of identification of newer molecular biology tools, exosomal cargo, role of cancer stem cells (CSCs), and its microenvironment in the progression of the diseases warrants a relook at the traditional treatment protocol and explore the feasibility of targeted therapies. AREAS COVERED: This review covers Rb pathobiology, novel molecular-targeted therapeutics, and strategies targeting Rb CSCs and provides an update on potential therapeutic targets such as second messengers and exosomal cargo. EXPERT OPINION: The emergence of early diagnosis and multimodality treatment protocols have significantly improved the clinical outcome of children with advanced Rb; however, the problem of tumor recurrence has not yet been overcome. Improved understanding of the molecular pathways, identification, and characterization of CSCs opens up new targeted therapy approaches. The contemporary evidence from other fields shows promising evidence that combining conservative treatment modalities with targeting therapies specific for CSCs in clinical practice is essential for achieving high globe salvage rate in Rb patients.

The present study employed nanoparticle tracking analysis, transmission electron microscopy, immunoblotting, RNA sequencing, and quantitative real-time PCR validation to characterize serum-derived small extracellular vesicles (sEVs) from RB patients and age-matched controls. Bioinformatics methods were used to analyze functions, and regulatory interactions between coding and non-coding (nc) sEVs RNAs. The results revealed that the isolated sEVs are round-shaped with a size < 150 nm, 5.3 × 1011 ± 8.1 particles/mL, and zeta potential of 11.1 to −15.8 mV, and expressed exosome markers CD9, CD81, and TSG101. A total of 6514 differentially expressed (DE) mRNAs, 123 DE miRNAs, and 3634 DE lncRNAs were detected. Both miRNA-mRNA and lncRNA-miRNA-mRNA network analysis revealed that the cell cycle-specific genes including CDKNI1A, CCND1, c-MYC, and HIF1A are regulated by hub ncRNAs MALAT1, AFAP1-AS1, miR145, 101, and 16-5p. Protein-protein interaction network analysis showed that eye-related DE mRNAs are involved in rod cell differentiation, cone cell development, and retinol metabolism. In conclusion, our study provides a comprehensive overview of the RB sEV RNAs and regulatory interactions between them.

Transurethral resection of prostate (TURP) has been the "gold standard" for surgical removal of the enlarged prostatic adenoma for many decades, and is likely to remain so despite the advent of multiple minimally invasive alternative procedures. TURP has stood the test of time, whereas the alternatives have come and gone in succession, as we have witnessed over the years. The accompanying video demonstrates the complete steps of TURP in a case of prostatic adenoma, highlighting the important nuances of the principles and the technique of resection.

Extracellular Vesicles (EVs) play pivotal roles in cell-to-cell communication, and are involved in potential pathological and physiological cellular processes. The aim of this study was to understand the proteomic cargo of these vesicles, in a murine model of Aspergillus flavus (AF) endophthalmitis. EVs were isolated from A. flavus infected C57BL/6 mice eyes by differential ultracentrifugation at 24 h post infection (p.i) and isolated EVs were characterized by Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Exocet assay, and western blot. Proteomic profiling of EVs was then evaluated by mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) and compared it with control uninfected mice. The average size of the EVs were 180-280 nm by DLS and the number of EVs increased to 1.55 × 1010 in infected mice in comparison to EVs from uninfected eye (1.24 × 109). Western blot was positive for CD9, CD63, and CD81 confirming the presence of EVs. LC-MS/MS analysis, identified 81 differentially expressed proteins, of these 22 were up-regulated and 59 were down-regulated. Gene Ontology (GO) analysis revealed enrichment of lipid metabolism, protein complex binding, and transferase activity, and the proteins associated were Aquaporin-5, CD177 antigen, Solute carrier family-25, and Calcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase. Additionally, KEGG pathway analysis indicated that glucagon signalling, metabolic, and PPAR signalling pathway were significantly associated with EVs from A. flavus infected mice eyes. The protein cargo in EVs from A. flavus endophthalmitis provides new insights into the pathogenesis of fungal endophthalmitis and validation of these proteins can serve as diagnostic and/or prognostic biomarkers for patients with a clinical suspicion of fungal endophthalmitis. LAY SUMMARY: EVs play an important role in cell communication. In our study proteomic profiling of EVs isolated from A. flavus infected mice provided new insights into the understanding of the pathobiology of A. flavus endophthalmitis and validation of these proteins can serve as biomarkers.

A male in his 50s, who had undergone Descemet's stripping automated endothelial keratoplasty (DSAEK) for corneal oedema following irido-corneal-endothelial syndrome and glaucoma drainage device surgery for secondary glaucoma presented with gradual decreased vision. The patient was on ripasudil 0.4% for the past 4 months prior to the presentation. Honeycomb epithelial oedema was seen with vesicles and intraepithelial microcyst formation which were also noted on anterior segment optical coherence tomography (OCT) and histopathology, that co-related with the slit-lamp findings. The patient underwent repeat DSAEK and had a good outcome. While the clinical features and OCT findings have been reported earlier, the histopathological features have not been reported.

Exosomes play pivotal roles in intercellular communication, and pathophysiological functions. In this study, we aimed to understand the role of exosomal proteome derived from C. albicans infected mice (C57BL/6) eyeball. Exosomes were characterized by Dynamic Light Scattering and Western blot, quantified and subjected to LC-MS/MS and cytokine quantification by ELISA. The average size of exosomes was 170-200 nm with number of exosomes amounted to 1.42 × 1010 in infected set compared to control (1.24 × 109). Western blot was positive for CD9, CD63 and CD81 confirming the presence of exosomes. IL-6, IL1ß, TNF-α, and IFN-γ levels were significantly elevated in infected eye at 72 h.p.i. Proteomic analysis identified 42 differentially expressed proteins, of these 37 were upregulated and 5 were downregulated. Gene Ontology (GO) revealed enrichment of cell adhesion, cytoskeleton organisation, and cellular response proteins such as aquaporin-5, gasdermin-A, CD5 antigen-like, Catenin, V-ATPase, and vesicle associated protein. Additionally, KEGG pathway analysis indicated the association of metabolic and carbon signalling pathways with exosomes from C. albicans infected eye. The protein cargo in exosomes released during endophthalmitis with C. albicans seems to play a unique role in the pathogenesis of the disease and further validations with larger cohort of patients is required to confirm them as biomarkers.

PURPOSE: To report the clinical outcome of Photodynamic Antimicrobial Therapy (PDAT) with Rose Bengal (RB) used as an early adjuvant therapy in patients with fungal keratitis and their microbiological and pathological correlation. METHODS: Patients with microbiologically confirmed fungal keratitis underwent PDAT-RB along with topical natamycin 5% drops hourly and oral ketoconazole 200 mg twice a day. This was performed by applying rose bengal (0.1%) to the de-epithelialized cornea for 30 minutes, followed by irradiation with a 6 mW/cm2 custom-made green LED source for 15 minutes (5.4 J/cm2). The corresponding fungal isolates were tested in vitro using PDAT-RB and corneal buttons were evaluated for correlation. RESULTS: Following informed consent, seven patients (male-5, female-2, mean age 47.7 years) with fungal keratitis were recruited. There were 3 cases each of Fusarium and Aspergillus flavus and 1 case of Acremonium sp. The average vertical and horizontal diameters of the corneal infiltrate were 4.12 ± 0.55 and 3.99 ± 1.19 mm, respectively. The average depth of corneal involvement was 283 ± 75.27µ as measured by anterior segment OCT. The clinical resolution was achieved in the cases with Fusarium keratitis with an average time of 39 days. Three cases of A. flavus and a single patient with Acremonium keratitis worsened and needed therapeutic keratoplasty (TPK) for resolution. Post-TPK, the corneal tissues grew A. flavus in one out of three cases and Acremonium sp. in one case. In vitro PDAT-RB experiment was performed on the corresponding fungal isolates grown from the corneal scraping. PDAT-RB produced clear inhibition of Fusarium and Acremonium sp. with no effect on the growth of A. flavus. Histopathologically, 2 out of 4 (50%) corneal buttons showed fungal filaments. CONCLUSIONS: While the in vitro and in vivo results of PDAT-RB matched for Fusarium sp. and Aspergillus flavus keratitis being favourable in the former and non-favourable in the latter, these results were discrepant in Acremonium sp.

The ever-increasing incidence of methicillin-resistant strains of Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) endophthalmitis is of particular concern as they are associated with poor outcomes. To compare the histology and whole transcriptome of Methicillin resistant (MRSA) and Methicillin-susceptible (MSSA) Staphylococcus aureus endophthalmitis in an experimental murine model. MRSA and MSSA endophthalmitis was induced in C57BL/6 mice and disease progression was scored clinically and histologically at 24 h p.i. Retinal changes were monitored by H&E, CD45, MPO and GFAP staining followed by retinal cell death evaluation. Whole Transcriptome was analysed using the SuperPrint G3 Mouse Gene Expression v2 chip. Differential gene expression analysis (Limma package, R) was done followed by enrichment of pathways (KEGG database). Increased corneal haze, diminished vitreous clarity and red reflex was observed in MRSA infected mice eye compared to MSSA (p = 0.04). Histological assessment also corroborated with increased disease severity in MRSA (p = 0.02). Although MRSA infected eye displayed higher CD45+ cells and greater GFAP intensity, the difference was not statistically significant. However, higher retinal cell death was found to be associated with the MRSA infection (p = 0.007). Our study also revealed that MRSA infection induces changes in host transcriptome (FC = 1.5, p = 0.05), revealing the involvement of several interleukins (IL-11,15,10,1ra), chemokines (CCL-11, CXCL-1), Interferon receptors, GM-CSF, M-CSF, MMPs, Neruopilin2 (NRP-2), Ubiquitin associated peptidase and apoptotic ligands. ErbB signalling, JAK-STAT, adipocytokine and Ras signalling were the top divergently enriched pathways. Our study confirms the differential host immune response triggered by MRSA infection in the eye. Our study may help to elucidate the mechanisms of pathogenesis and to identify additional candidate drug targets for the treatment of MRSA endophthalmitis.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate whether there would be a difference in outcome when the smaller ultra-mini 12 Fr sheath was used instead of the mini 16 Fr sheath for percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) in paediatric patients for stones less than 25 mm. METHODS: This was a prospective cohort study of patients who underwent PCNL in our hospital in a 2-year period from July 2016 to June 2018 by a single surgeon. PCNL was performed in a prone position and tract was dilated to the respective size using single step dilatation. Laser was used to fragment the stone. Stone-free outcome was defined as absence of stone fragment at 3 months on kidney, ureter, and bladder X-ray. RESULTS: There were 40 patients in each group. Mean stone size was comparable between the two groups (14.5 mm vs. 15.0 mm). The procedure was completed faster in the 16 Fr group compared to 12 Fr group (24.5 min vs. 34.6 min). Stone clearance was highly successful in both groups (97.5% vs. 95.0%). There was no difference in complications between the two groups. The decrease in hemoglobin was minimal in both groups (0.2 g/dL vs. 0.3 g/dL). CONCLUSION: We found that the success rates were similar in both mini PCNL and the smaller ultra-mini PCNL groups. No significant difference in bleeding was noted in our pilot study, however, operative time was longer in the ultra-mini group as compared to the mini sheath group.

Fungal endophthalmitis is a potentially blinding condition. It is more often reported from Asia, including India. The incidence is lower than bacterial endophthalmitis. But it is relatively more challenging to treat than bacterial endophthalmitis. Many eyes may need therapeutic keratoplasty and/or evisceration. The current mainstays of treatment are vitrectomy irrespective of the presenting vision, intravitreal antifungal agents, and systemic therapy; additionally, the patients could require prolonged treatment with repeat vitreous surgeries and intravitreal injections. Difficulty in clinical diagnosis, delay in microbiological culture, and limited options of antifungal drugs make the treatment more difficult and less rewarding. Three common fungi causing endophthalmitis are Aspergillus, Fusarium, and Candida. The former two are molds, often identified in exogenous endophthalmitis, postoperative and traumatic; the latter is yeast and is more often identified in endogenous endophthalmitis. A faster diagnosis with newer molecular microbiological technologies might help institute treatment earlier than it is currently possible. A target trial using big data from different regions of the world might emulate a randomized clinical trial to design a definite treatment strategy. Given fewer antifungal drugs, one must be mindful of antifungal stewardship to prevent resistance to the existing drugs.

PURPOSE: To describe the clinical features, histopathology, treatment, and outcomes of patients with ocular surface squamous neoplasia (OSSN) presenting to a referral centre in India. METHODS: Retrospective interventional study. RESULTS: Of 438 patients, the mean age at presentation was 49 years. Human immunodeficiency virus infection was noted in 72 (16%), xeroderma pigmentosum in 22 (5%), hepatitis B virus infection in 14 (3%), and systemic cancer in 8 (2%) patients. Tumor pigmentation was noted in 243 (54%) tumors with a mean percentage of tumor pigmentation of 44% (median, 40%; range, 1 to 100%). Intraocular tumor extension was noted in 12 (3%), and orbital tumor extension in 16 (4%) eyes. Of the 381 treated lesions, excisional biopsy (n = 247; 65%) was the most common treatment modality. Of the 311 lesions with histopathology diagnosis of OSSN, invasive squamous cell carcinoma (n = 92; 30%) was the most common. Over a mean follow-up period of 11 months (median, 5 months; range, 1 to 108 months) in 368 patients, tumor recurrence was noted in 16 (4%) eyes, globe salvage was achieved in 341 (90%) eyes, vision salvage in 338 (89%) eyes, regional lymph node metastasis occurred in 9 (2%), and metastasis-related death in 9 (2%) patients. CONCLUSION: Pigmented OSSN is common in Asian Indian population. Appropriate management of OSSN is associated with good vision, globe, and life salvage rates in India.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the lenticular changes in advanced intraocular retinoblastoma (RB) and identify the risk factors for cataract in these eyes. METHODS: Retrospective analysis of 48 primary enucleations. RESULTS: All enucleated eyes were classified either as group D (n = 7; 15%) or group E (n = 41; 85%) tumors based on the International Classification of Intraocular Retinoblastoma. Of the 48 enucleated eyes with RB, cataract was noted clinically in only 5 (18%) cases, while histopathology revealed cataractous changes in 28 (58%) cases. Based on histopathology, the cataractous changes included anterior subcapsular cataract (n = 10; 36%), cortical cataract (n = 6; 21%), posterior subcapsular cataract (n = 10; 36%) and both anterior and posterior subcapsular cataract (n = 2; 7%). Based on multivariate logistic regression, only increased area of necrosis on histopathology was the significant (p = .009) factor predictive of cataractous changes in lens with an odds ratio of 1.08. CONCLUSION: Eyes with advanced RB can harbor cataract in 58% cases, though most of these are subclinical. Clinically significant cataract may be evident in only 18% cases. Increased tumor necrosis is associated with the development of cataractous changes in RB cases.
