RESUMEN

BACKGROUND AND AIM: Spirituality in education, as a necessity in improving the quality of teaching and learning, is affected by various personal, social, religious, and cultural factors. Since the identification of these factors can empower the faculties and facilitate the transfer of spiritual concepts through teaching, the aim of this study is explanation of the factors affecting the spirituality transfer in education process. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This qualitative content analysis approach study included 22 faculty members of medical universities, 25 faculty members of seminary, and 19 medical students interested in participating in the study. They were studied according to purposive sampling method. Data collection was done by interviewing a semi-structured questionnaire. Data were analyzed using conventional content analysis method. RESULTS: The factors influencing the spiritual transfer in teaching process were classified into two main forms of teacher-related factors and peripheral-related factors. Teacher-related factors include the teacher's insight and worldview, adherence to religious principles, belief in ethical virtues, the positive and constructive interaction of the teacher with the student, and the mastery of teaching skills. The peripheral-related factors include the highly skilled classrooms and the talented learners. CONCLUSION: The intensification of the insight, religious worldview and the basic of beliefs, consolidating ethics and empowering faculty members in teaching skills along with building a positive and constructive relationship with the students, as well as institutionalizing spirituality as the inseparable teaching element can facilitate the transfer of spirituality concepts. More studies are needed in this regard.

RESUMEN

Invasive aspergillosis of the paranasal sinuses is a rare and often misdiagnosed disease. This study reported a case of maxillary aspergillosis with a complete headache and eye pain after tooth extraction with a large abscess in the relative jaw. Tenderness in the right temporal, lower jaw numbness and right eye proptosis was found. Histopathological examination was the suggestion of maxillary sinusitis with a fungal ball of aspergillus.

BACKGROUND: Some genes may be associated with Candida albicans resistance to azoles. Pir1 gene is described as responsible to induce resistance in C. albicans. OBJECTIVES: The current study aimed to find the relationship between fluconazole resistance and Pir1 protein (Pir1p) overexpression in the females with recurrent C. albicans vaginitis requiring longer fluconazole therapy. PATIENTS AND METHODS: A total of 52l vaginal samples were obtained from the females with C. albicans vaginitis. The azole susceptibility phenotype was determined according to the Clinical Laboratory for Standards Institute (CLSI) protocol for disk diffusion method and inhibition zone for fluconazole. Expression of pir1 gene and fluconazole -resistance were evaluated using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) in C. albicans. RESULTS: In the 52 isolates, 49 (94%) were resistant to fluconazole. Overexpression of Pir1 gene was detected in 47 (96%) fluconazole-resistant C. albicans isolates. CONCLUSIONS: The findings show fluconazole -resistance in C. albicans isolates with overexpression of Pir1p.

We fabricated a targeted delivery system for doxorubicin (Dox) using ß-1,3-glucan (Glu) as a carrier and decorated by trastuzumab antibody having the status of targeting agent against Her2+ breast tumors. Glu-Dox conjugates were also functionalized with polyethylenimine (PEI) intended for increasing specific cellular uptake of prepared nanoparticles. The self-assembled nanoparticles were prepared through conjugation of Dox- [Glu-Dox-] using succinic anhydride (Sa) in place of a linker. Nanoparticles had spherical morphology with positive zeta potential. In-vitro cell viability assay on two breast cancer cell lines demonstrated acceptable toxicity against tested cell lines. Confocal microscopic images demonstrated the remarkable cytoplasmic uptake of the nanoparticles in Her2-overexpressing 4T1 cells. A controlled release of Dox from Glu-Dox nanoparticles was investigated. In-vivo studies were performed on female Balb/C mice. The volume of the induced tumors was calculated following intravenous administration of nanoparticles. The tumor volume diminished efficiently and more rapidly after administration of nanoparticles containing Dox. Based on survival results, the formulation of Dox targeted nanoparticles appeared very promising for the treatment of tumors. It could be concluded that Glu-Dox targeted nanoparticles have potential advantages for delivering anticancer drugs to the target tissue.

We report on two pairs of platinum acetylide based polymers and model oligomers utilizing a 2,1,3-benzothiadiazole (BTD) acceptor moiety flanked on either side by either 2,5-thienyl donor units (Pt2BTD-Th and p-PtBTD-Th) or (3,4-ethylenedioxy)-2,5-thienyl donors (Pt2BTD-EDOT and p-PtBTD-EDOT). Both oligomer/polymer pairs absorb strongly throughout the visible region; however, because the (ethylenedioxy)thiophene moiety is a stronger donor than thiophene, the latter oligomer/polymer pair has a correspondingly lower band gap and, therefore, harvests light more efficiently at longer wavelengths. p-PtBTD-Th exhibits a relatively narrow molecular weight distribution with a number-average molecular weight (Mn) of 22 kDa, while p-PtBTD-EDOT exhibits a comparable Mn of 33 kDa but has a high polydispersity index likely due to aggregation. We provide a complete report of the photophysical and electrochemical characterization of the two oligomer/polymer pairs. The photophysical studies reveal that the materials undergo relatively efficient intersystem crossing. In a discussion of the energetics of photoinduced electron transfer from the platinum polymers to [6,6]-phenyl C61 butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM), it is noted that while the singlet state is quenched efficiently, the triplet state is not quenched, indicating that charge generation in the photovoltaic materials must ensue from the singlet manifold. Finally, organic photovoltaic devices based on blends of p-PtBDT-Th or p-PtBDT-EDOT with PCBM were characterized under monochromatic and simulated solar (AM1.5) illumination. Optimized devices exhibit an open-circuit voltage (Voc) of approximately 0.5 V, a short-circuit current density (Isc) of approximately 7.2 mA cm(-2), and a fill factor of approximately 35%, which yields overall power conversion efficiencies of 1.1-1.4%.
