RESUMEN

Recent advances in AI-based methods have revolutionized the field of structural biology. Concomitantly, high-throughput sequencing and functional genomics technologies have enabled the detection and generation of variants at an unprecedented scale. However, efficient tools and resources are needed to link these two disparate data types - to "map" variants onto protein structures, to better understand how the variation causes disease and thereby design therapeutics. Here we present the Genomics 2 Proteins Portal (G2P; g2p.broadinstitute.org/): a human proteome-wide resource that maps 19,996,443 genetic variants onto 42,413 protein sequences and 77,923 structures, with a comprehensive set of structural and functional features. Additionally, the G2P portal generalizes the capability of linking genomics to proteins beyond databases by allowing users to interactively upload protein residue-wise annotations (variants, scores, etc.) as well as the protein structure to establish the connection. The portal serves as an easy-to-use discovery tool for researchers and scientists to hypothesize the structure-function relationship between natural or synthetic variations and their molecular phenotype.

RESUMEN

A new synthesis of 2-aroylbenzothiazoles via iodine-promoted domino transformations of anilines, acetophenones, and elemental sulfur was demonstrated. The highlights of this tandem synthesis are (1) easily available anilines and acetophenones as feedstock; (2) transition metal-free conditions; (3) inexpensive, nontoxic, easy handling, and abundant elemental sulfur as a building block. This synthetic strategy would complement the existing methods in the synthesis of this important heterocyclic scaffold. To our best knowledge, the formation of 2-aroylbenzothiazoles from simple anilines, acetophenones, and elemental sulfur was not previously reported in the literature.

RESUMEN

As with other South Asian countries, injury is becoming a leading cause of death and morbidity among children in Vietnam. In response to the increasing burden of child injury, government and non-government agencies in Vietnam have combined efforts during the last decade to develop and implement various child injury prevention strategies and programmes. This article provides, through a review of relevant documents and interviews with major stakeholders, an overview of these efforts and highlights major challenges to child injury prevention in the country. The findings point to notable achievements in terms of increasing awareness of injury facing children at all levels in the community and developing a sound injury prevention policy framework in a relatively short period of time. However, much needs to be done to implement necessary environmental and legislative changes, strengthen child injury surveillance and injury prevention research; and to improve access to health services. The insight into the experience of Vietnam could benefit other low- and middle-income countries with a high burden of child injury.

RESUMEN

The first years of life are typically shrouded by infantile amnesia, but there is enormous variability between adults in how early and how much they can remember from this period. This study examined one possible factor affecting this variability: whether the perceived quality of parent-child relationships is associated with the number of early memories young adults can retrieve, and their age at the time of their first memory. We found such associations but they were qualified by parent gender. Mother-child relationships that were more affectively intense (greater social support but also more negative interchanges) were associated with recalling more early memories, although paternal companionship was most associated with how early an individual's first memory was. Affective tone of retrieved memories was also assessed, and a greater proportion of affectively positive memories (as well as fewer affectively neutral memories for males) was associated with high parental involvement in children's lives.
