RESUMEN

Lymphedema is a pathology caused by poor lymphatic flow which may lead to complete disability. Currently, precise, non-invasive techniques for quantifying lymphedema are lacking. In this paper, the results of an in vivo assessment of lymphedema via a developed small-animal model using the hindlimbs of rats and an optical coherence tomography (OCT) technique are presented. This model of lymphedema was based on a surgical lymph node resection and subsequent two-step X-ray exposure. The development of lymphedema was verified via the histological examination of tissue biopsies. The properties of the lymphedematous skin were analyzed in vivo and compared with healthy skin via OCT. The main differences observed were (1) a thickening of the stratum corneum layer, (2) a thinning of the viable epidermis layer, and (3) higher signal attenuation in the dermis layer of the lymphedematous skin. Based on the distribution of the OCT signal's intensity in the skin, a machine learning algorithm was developed which allowed for a classification of normal and lymphedematous tissue sites with an accuracy of 90%. The obtained results pave the way for in vivo control over the development of lymphedema.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Digital pathology has come a long way in terms of creating tools to improve existing diagnostic approaches. However, several pathology fields, such as neuropathology, are still characterized by low coverage from machine learning tools and neural network analysis, which may be due to the complexity of the internal cellular and molecular structure of the corresponding neoplasms, including glioblastomas. METHOD: In the framework of this study, using advanced proprietary tools for obtaining images of histological slides and their deep morphometric analysis, we studied samples of 198 patients with glioblastoma with the selection of morphometric cell clusters. Also, cells of each cluster were isolated, and their proliferative, migratory, invasive activity, survival ability, aerobic glycolysis activity, and chemo- and radioresistance were studied. RESULTS: Four morphometric clusters were identified, including small-cell cluster, paracirculonuclear cluster, hypochromic cluster, and macronuclear cluster, which significantly differed in morphometric parameters and functional parameters. Hypochromic cluster cells demonstrated the highest proliferation activity; macronuclear cluster was the most active glucose consumer; paracirculonuclear cluster had the most prominent migratory and invasive activity and hypoxia resistance; small-cell cluster demonstrated predominantly average values of all parameters. Moreover, additional analysis revealed the presence of a separate subcluster of stem cell elements that correspond in their molecular properties to glioma stem cells and are present in all four clusters. It also turned out that several key molecular parameters of glioblastoma, such as mutational modifications in the EGFR, PDGFRA, and NF1 genes, along with the molecular GBM subtype, are significantly correlated with the identified cell clusters. CONCLUSIONS: Thus, the results represent an up-and-coming innovation in the practical field of digital pathology and fundamental questions of glioma carcinogenesis.

RESUMEN

A complex (dusty) plasma system is well known as a paradigmatic model for studying the kinetics of solid-liquid phase transitions in inactive condensed matter. At the same time, under certain conditions a complex plasma system can also display characteristics of an active medium with the micron-sized particles converting energy of the ambient environment into motility and thereby becoming active. We present a detailed analysis of the experimental complex plasmas system that shows evidence of a non-equilibrium stationary coexistence between a cold crystalline and a hot fluid state in the structure due to the conversion of plasma energy into the motion energy of microparticles in the central region of the system. The plasma mediated non-reciprocal interaction between the dust particles is the underlying mechanism for the enormous heating of the central subsystem, and it acts as a micro-scale energy source that keeps the central subsystem in the molten state. Accurate multiscale simulations of the system based on combined molecular dynamics and particle-in-cell approaches show that strong structural nonuniformity of the system under the action of electostatic trap makes development of instabilities a local process. We present both experimental tests conducted with a complex plasmas system in a DC glow discharge plasma and a detailed theoretical analysis.

RESUMEN

AIM: To evaluate the influence of dispersed fibrous carbon sorbent (DFCS) on malignant fungating wounds (MFWs) in Guerin's carcinoma-bearing rats with an assessment of wound bacterial microflora. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The study was performed on female Wistar rats inoculated subcutaneously with Guerin T8 carcinoma into the upper interscapular region. On day 20, the tumors were infected by injecting the suspension of S. aureus 8325-4. After 24 h, gauze dressings were applied daily to the wounds in the control group and DFCS in the experimental one. The state of the wounds was assessed by visual control with photo monitoring, odor control on a verbal rating scale and microbiological analysis of qualitative and quantitative characteristics of wound microbiota. RESULTS: On the 3rd day after the start of dressings, the number of S. aureus of 8325-4 strain was significantly higher in the wounds of rats in control group than experimental one (5.14 ± 0.27 vs 3.43 ± 0.33 lg CFU/ml). The total number of Staphylococci in the DFCS-treated wounds did not differ statistically from the number of S. aureus 8325-4 strain whereas in control ones were higher by an order of magnitude. On the 10th day the total number of Staphylococci and S. aureus 8325-4 in particular, remained consistently high in the wounds of the control rats, while was almost five orders of magnitude lower and represented mainly by S. aureus 8325-4 in the experimental ones. The total number of aerobic and optionally anaerobic microorganisms was significantly lower as well. A greater variety of microorganisms in the gauze-covered wounds, as well as an their increased number were accompanied by enhancement of the wound odor from "noticeable" to "strong". There was an appearance of a "barely noticeable" odor in only one animal from the experimental group. CONCLUSION: The study has demonstrated the ability of DFCS to control substantially the bacterial microflora as well as malodor of MWFs in vivo. The results obtained can contribute to solving the problem of improving the quality of palliative care for patients with malignant and other chronic wounds.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the long-term results of surgical correction of H-type fistula in girls with a normal anus. MATERIAL AND METHODS: There were 7 patients with rectovestibular fistula and 3 patients with rectovaginal fistula with a normal anus were observed from 2014 to 2019 in the Surgical Department No. 1 of the Russian Children's Clinical Hospital. Upon admission, all patients underwent genital examination, vaginoscopy, rectal examination and probing the fistulous canal, irrigography, abdominal and retroperitoneal ultrasound. They were also examined by a gynecologist and genital smears were obtained. Surgical treatment was determined depending on the height and diameter of the fistula for each child. One patient underwent perineal fistulectomy, three patients - anterior anorectoplasty. Invaginated fistula extirpation, abdominoperineal proctoplasty and perineal fistulectomy using a pad flap between the defects were used in two cases, respectively. Patients were followed-up for the period from 6 months to 1 year after the last recurrence. Follow-up examination, irrigography and functional examination of sphincter were performed. RESULTS: Two (20%) patients did not require redo surgery. In 6 (60%) cases, recurrences didn't occur within a year after the second surgery, in 2 (20%) cases - after 3 operations. Recurrent H-type fistula appeared after 3 of 4 perineal fistulectomy procedures, 3 of 9 anterior anorectoplasty, 2 of 2 abdominoperineal proctoplasty and 2 of 3 invaginated fistula extirpation. Hypotension of internal anal sphincter and neo-rectal ampulla, recurrent vulvovaginitis were diagnosed in 2 patients in 6 months after anterior anorectoplasty. CONCLUSION: We recommend anterior anorectoplasty and perineal fistulectomy using a pad flap between the defects for the treatment of H-type fistula to minimize the risk of recurrence.

RESUMEN

AIM: To evaluate the changes of some biochemical blood plasma parameters and morphological structure of the internal organs of rats with transplanted doxorubicin (DOX)-sensitive (Walker 256) and doxorubicin-resistant (Walker 256/DOX) strains of Walker 256 carcinosarcoma. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The study was performed on female Wistar rats with transplanted Walker 256 or Walker 256/DOX and intact animals (control). On the 9th day after transplantation of tumor cells, a comparative analysis of some blood plasma biochemical parameters and morphological examination of the liver, kidneys, myocardium and spleen of rats was carried out. RESULTS: Walker 256 growth, in comparison with Walker 256/DOX, is accompanied by more pronounced systemic effect on tumor-bearing rats. Uric acid concentration in the blood plasma of Walker 256 bearing rats was significantly (by 15.5%) higher than in Walker 256/DOX bearing rats. Aspartate aminotransferase activity in the Walker 256 group was significantly (by 107.2%) higher than in Walker 256/DOX group, but alanine aminotransferase activity was 58.5% lower. 56.7% decrease of alkaline phosphatase in rats with Walker 256, and 21% increase of this index in rats with Walker 256/DOX were observed. The growth of Walker 256 carcinosarcoma led to greater structural damage of the liver, kidneys and spleen in experimental animals compared with Walker 256/DOX strain. CONCLUSION: Tumor growth in rats with Walker 256/DOX leads to less pronounced changes in the biochemical parameters of rat blood plasma and morphological structure of internal organs compared with wild-type carcinosarcoma.

RESUMEN

The study includes anthropometry of 172 young male, obtained data on the length and body mass, measured the transverse diameters of the shoulders and pelvis, various body types was identified by the J.M. Tanner sexual dimorphism index (andromorphic, mesomorphic, gynecomorphic). The chemiluminescent and bioluminescent study of saliva and blood was conducted in the examined young male. We studied the indicators of the antioxidant defense system under the influence of stress. The antioxidant status of saliva was determined using the H2O2-luminol-dependent chemiluminescence method. Data on the activity of NAD (P) -dependent dehydrogenases in blood lymphocytes was obtained from a bioluminescent method of research. Young male of andromorphic body type had large overall and transverse body sizes. Indicators of antioxidant protection of saliva and blood in men of adolescence, the body type of the sexual dimorphism index J.M. Tanner was different. The persons of the andromorphic body type differed in terms of chemiluminescence in comparison with the young male of gynecomorphic body type. The results of bioluminescent blood tests suggest a violation of the catabolic and anabolic processes of carbohydrate and fat metabolism in young men of mesomorphic and gynecomorphic body types. Indicators of the system of antioxidant protection of saliva and blood reflect the sexual characteristics of the body of young male and can be used as additional criteria for diagnosing sex inversion and assessing the risk of developing socially attributed diseases.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To study the features of the rehabilitation of patients with foot drop syndrome and to develop recommendations for the appointment of technical means of rehabilitation (TMR) for this pathology. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Retrospective analysis of the survey data of 375 patients in need of lower limb orthosis was carried out. General clinical and biomechanical methods were used to study the disturbances of statodynamic function of the musculoskeletal system. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: The results confirm that patients with foot drop syndrome have disturbances of support, stability, symmetry and rhythmicity of walking and, as a result, a significant deterioration in the quality of life. It has been established that the patients is not fully provided with orthoses and orthopedic shoes appointed to compensate for impaired function. Practitioners and rehabilitation specialists have difficulties in substantiating the needs and recommendations of TMR for a particular patient. The presented medical and technical requirements for product designs, the methodology for determining the need for them and recommendations for the appointment of TMR will contribute to the successful rehabilitation of patients with foot drop syndrome.

RESUMEN

AIM: To assess oxidative stress and structural changes of the serum albumin in rats with transplanted Walker-256 carcinosarcoma (W256) strains with varying sensitivity to doxorubicin (Dox). MATERIALS AND METHODS: The study was performed on female Wistar rats with transplanted W256. On the 9th day after tumor cell transplantation an analysis of peripheral blood, oxidative stress parameters, and structural changes of serum albumin of experimental animals was performed. RESULTS: On the 9th day after W256 transplantation a significant increase in the leukocyte counts was observed in the groups of animals with the Dox-resistant and parental (Dox-sensitive) W256 tumors compared with the group of the intact animals: up to 14.24 ± 1.92 â€¢ 103/µl and 9.78 ± 1.03 â€¢ 103/µl, vs 8.92 ± 1.04 â€¢ 103/µl, respectively, due to the increase of granulocyte and monocyte counts. The number of lymphocytes was within the normal range. The level of hemoglobin and the erythrocyte counts were also within normal limits, but hematocrit in both groups of animals with tumors somewhat increased against the background of 1.2-fold elevation of the mean erythrocyte volume. In the group of rats with Dox-resistant W256, there was observed a decrease in the plateletcrit by almost 22% and thrombocyte counts - by 28%. Analysis of oxidative stress indices revealed a significant increase in the level of reactive oxygen species, 2-fold increase of malonic dialdehyde level and the degree of oxidative damage of blood plasma proteins, as well as a decrease in the activity of catalase in hemolysates (by 12-15%) in both groups of tumor-bearing rats. With the use of differential scanning calorimetry, UV and fluorescence spectroscopy we have revealed anomalous conformational changes of albumin caused by tumor development: structural rearrangements in the region of its first drug binding site located in the IIA domain, separation of globular parts of albumin molecule, and partial "opening" in a protein molecular three-domain structure resulting a loss of its thermal resistance. CONCLUSION: The development of transplanted Walker-256 carcinosarcoma, especially its Dox-resistant variant, results in severe metabolic intoxication reflected in alteration of hematological parameters, and indices of oxidative stress, as well as architectonic changes of serum albumin.

RESUMEN

The study was carried out in series of preclinical tests of new adhesive dental film developed for local treatment of inflammatory periodontal disease and containing chlorhexidine bigluconate and ketoprofen. The aim of the work was to determine film's effect on the activity of blood neutrophils in healthy individuals and in patients with chronic periodontitis using luminol-dependent chemiluminescence method. The investigated dental film showed modulating influence on blood phagocytes methabolism depending on their initial functional state. Immunomodulating activity revealed is associated with the polymer base and is potentiated by ketoprofen in case of hyporeactive inflammation.

RESUMEN

The potential of one of the adsorption methods, enterosorption (ES), using the new generation of carbon adsorbents to correct the negative manifestations of tumor-host interaction in the framework of paraneoplastic syndrome (PNS) as well as systemic toxicity of chemo- and radiation therapy, is discussed. The ES influence on the development of PNS was demonstrated in C57/BL6 mice with transplanted Lewis lung carcinoma. Two-week administration of carbon enterosorbents resulted in a significant suppression of metastasis and correction of tumor-related anemia, activation of granulocytic line in the bone marrow with nearly 3-fold enhancement of its mitotic activity. ES exerted a positive influence on the structural-morphologic indexes and regenerative potential of kidneys and liver, mitigated manifestations of oxidative stress, decreased the level of endogenous intoxication, increased resistance of erythrocyte membranes and decreased ligand loading of blood plasma transport proteins. The effect of ES on anticancer activity and toxic reactions of cisplatin (CP) was evaluated in Guerin carcinoma-bearing rats. ES reduced significantly creatinine and other kidney biochemical indexes elevated in the blood plasma of rats after CP treatment. ES attenuated dystrophic changes in the histological structure of internal organs (kidney, liver, spleen), caused by tumor growth and significantly aggravated under the influence of CP. Such changes were specially traced in the kidneys and well reflect the nephroprotective potential of ES. In rats irradiated with X-ray in sublethal dose, highly activated granulated carbonic enterosorbents facilitated the restoration of white blood cells and lymphocyte count. The results obtained confirm the insights of academician R.E. Kavetsky predicting the future of adsorptive detoxification with activated carbons in the treatment of cancer patients.

RESUMEN

Pathogenesis of many diseases is associated with changes in the collagen spatial structure. Traditionally, the 3D structure of collagen in biological tissues is analyzed using histochemistry, immunohistochemistry, magnetic resonance imaging, and X-radiography. At present, multiphoton microscopy (MPM) is commonly used to study the structure of biological tissues. MPM has a high spatial resolution comparable to histological analysis and can be used for direct visualization of collagen spatial structure. Because of a large volume of data accumulated due to the high spatial resolution of MPM, special analytical methods should be used for identification of informative features in the images and quantitative evaluation of relationship between these features and pathological processes resulting in the destruction of collagen structure. Here, we describe current approaches and achievements in the identification of informative features in the MPM images of collagen in biological tissues, as well as the development on this basis of algorithms for computer-aided classification of collagen structures using machine learning as a type of artificial intelligence methods.

RESUMEN

AIM: Buccal mucosa and preputial skin grafts are used for staged urethroplasty in proximal forms of hypospadias in children. Aim of our study was to carry out a comparative histological analysis of preputial skin and buccal mucosa. METHOD: s and materials: Histological analysis of urethral tissue samples from 10 patients with proximal forms of hypospadias was conducted. All patients were treated with staged Brackas technique using free grafts at the Russian Childrens Clinical Hospital from 2013 to 2016. Patients were divided into two groups. In Group I (n=5), preputial skin graft was used for urethroplasty, while in Group II (n=5) buccal mucosa was taken. A histological study of both materials with comparison to a native urethra was performed. RESULTS: In Group I, the histological analysis showed keratinizing multilayered squamous epithelium, large number of dilated sweat and sebaceous glands with signs of inflammation, and hair follicles. In Group II, histological analysis revealed the presence of the typical structure for mucosal tissue, including multilayered flat non-keratinizing epithelium, as well as full absence of sweat, sebaceous glands, and hair follicles. CONCLUSION: comparative histological analysis of neourethra has shown the absence of sweat and sebaceous glands, hair follicles, and areas of chronic inflammation in buccal mucosa vs preputial skin, showing that buccal mucosa is more similar to native urethra. Therefore, buccal mucosa is favored as the material for urethroplasty.

RESUMEN

The increase in the prevalence of hypospadias, which has lasted for several decades, signals the need to find ways to prevent the disease. Development of measures aimed to reduce morbidity is impossible without a unified concept of the etiology and pathogenesis of hypospadias. The article analyzes the existing theories of the origin of hypospadias. According to the literature, there are 5 types of causes of hypospadias, some of which are currently established. Among the causes under investigation, the emphasis is on placental factors.

RESUMEN

AIM: To investigate the effect of enterosorption on the development of paraneoplastic syndrome in mice with Lewis lung carcinoma (LLC). MATERIALS AND METHODS: The study was performed on male С57/ВL6 mice with transplanted LLC. As an enterosorbent, highly activated powder fraction of HSGD was administered per os daily at a dose of 0.625 g/kg for two weeks starting from the 7th day after tumor cell transplantation. Analysis of hemo- and myelograms, morphological alterations in vital organs, the activities of catalase and superoxide dismutase, biochemical analysis of blood and quantitative analysis of hydroperoxides, malonic dialdehyde, аdvanced oxidation protein products was carried out by standard methods after completing the course of enterosorption. Ligand loading of blood plasma proteins was estimated by the method of differential scanning microcalorimetry. RESULTS: Administration of enterosorbent resulted in inhibition of LLC growth and in nearly 2-fold decrease of lung metastases number (p < 0.05). Activation of granulocytic line in the bone marrow with nearly 3-fold enhancement of mitotic activity took place after enterosorbent administration. Red cell lineage indices and bone marrow cellularity remained unaltered. After enterosorption session, the studied biochemical indices of peripheral blood evidenced on decreasing the endogenous intoxication and oxidative stress levels, improving the functional state of kidneys, increasing the resistance of erythrocyte membranes and lowering the ligand loading of blood plasma transport proteins. Morphological structure of kidneys and liver confirmed significant positive effect of enterosorption. The data of morphologic examination of gastric fundus, small intestine, and large bowel slides after 2-week administration of enterosorbent showed its high safety and proper evacuation from intestine. CONCLUSION: The two-week long enterosorption session in mice with LLC caused the suppression of tumor growth and metastasis, normalization of bone marrow hemopoiesis. Enterosorption exerted a positive influence on the structural-morphologic indexes and regenerative potential of kidneys and liver, mitigated manifestations of oxidative stress, decreased the level of endogenous intoxication, promoted deliganding of albumin molecule and deloading of erythrocyte membranes.

RESUMEN

Aesthetically acceptable cosmetic results of surgical correction of external genital organ defects are important for treatment evaluation along with well-known criteria of good functional outcomes. The purpose of this study was to improve the results of treating children with hypospadias by improving the assessment of results and introducing multi-step correction modalities. MATERIALS AND METHODS: From 2013 to 2015, 476 patients with various forms of hypospadias were treated at the Department of Uroandrology of RCCH. The patients age ranged from 1 year to 17 years (mean age 3 years). All patients were divided into 3 groups depending on the form of hypospadias and type of treatment. They included patients with distal forms of hypospadias (group1, n=270), proximal forms (group 2, n=112) and patients with stem and penoscrotal hypospadias who underwent 3-6 operations before admission (group 3, n=94). RESULTS: The study evaluated both functional and cosmetic results. Cosmetic appearance was assessed using the HOPE scoring system [2]. Despite the difference in surgical methods used for all types of hypospadias, good cosmetic results have been achieved in the majority of patients (65%). Functional outcomes differed depending on the form of hypospadias. In primary patients with distal and proximal forms of hypospadias, good results were achieved in 96% and 77% of patients, respectively. At the same time, 72% of patients who underwent repeat interventions had good results, which is comparable to the group of primary patients with proximal forms. CONCLUSION: The results of treating patients after repeat/failed surgery confirm the high effectiveness of our surgical methods (the Bracka two-stage graft repair, buccal mucosa hypospadias repair, reconstruction with scrotal skin flaps, correction of scrotal transposition). Using the HOPE scoring system to assess cosmetic results helps motivate surgeons to achieve the best treatment results.

RESUMEN

The study of mechanisms of migration activity of lymphocytes into skin under psoriasis represents both theoretical and practical interest because regulation of the given process provides new possibility in therapy. As is well known, process of migration of lymphocytes through endothelium of micro-circulation is regulated by molecules of adhesion. The study was carried out to detect content of lymphocytes expressing molecules of adhesion depending on their morphology. The study was implemented in 82 patients with vulgar and exudative psoriasis at progressing and stationary stages (39 females and 43 males out of total number) aged from 20 to 60 years. The control group consisted of 50 healthy individuals (28 females and 22 males). The lymphocytogram was analyzed alongside with detection of content of lymphocytes expressing receptors to molecules of adhesion in venous blood. The content of minor lymphocytes had no alteration in condition of hyper-proliferation of keratinocytes. This occurrence is typical for psoriasis. In patients with psoriasis, no alteration of concentration of medium lymphocytes was detected. Under psoriasis, intensified migration of large lymphocytes from peripheral blood is observed testified by decreasing of their absolute number and statistically reliable correlations with content of lymphocytes expressing receptors to LFA-1, LFA-3, ICAM-1 и PECAM-1.

RESUMEN

The lymphocytes are true immunocytes specialized in discerning antigen in organism. Their behavior in blood is regulated by several classes of adhesion proteins, including selectin, integrin, immunoglobulin. In healthy humans there is no data concerning level of expression of adhesion molecules on lymphocytes depending on size of their cytoplasm. The study was carried out to determine level of expression of adhesion molecules of lymphocytes depending on size of their cytoplasm. The flow cytometer was applied to determine in venous blood level of expression of adhesion molecules in 50 individuals (22 males and 28 females) aged from 20 to 60 years and having no chronic pathology in anamnesis. The analysis of lymphocytogram permitted to differentiate lymphocytes according volume of cell considering size of cytoplasm: small lymphocytes- up to 8 mkm; medium - from 8 to 12 mkm; large - more than 12 mkm. In males a tendency was established concerning decreasing of concentration of lymphocytes with expressed molecule of L-selectin. The absence was detected concerning gender differences in level of lymphocytes with receptor LFA-1 and also lymphocytes with molecule ICAM-1. In males concentration of lymphocytes with receptor LFA-3 was higher than in females but only as a tendency. The lower level of expression of molecule PECAM-1 in males was observed. The correlation analysis between level of expresion of adhesion molecules and concentration of lymphocytes differing in size of cytoplasm, demonstrated that at increasing of size of cytoplasm of lymphocytes increases number of statistically reliable correlations. The shedding of molecules of L-selectin in lymphocytes proceeds significantly more active than in monocytes. At that, medium plasma lymphocytes and large granular lymphocytes identified as natural killers are more predisposed to migration. However, lymphocytes entering condition of lympho-proliferation have less ability to adhesion.

RESUMEN

UNLABELLED: Today due to improvements in cancer treatment there is an increasing number of long-term cancer survivors, many of whom suffer from infertility caused by malignancy itself and chemo- or radiotherapy. Also, anticancer therapy may cause myelosuppression. Presently granulocyte colony stimulating factor (G-CSF) is used for prevention and treatment of myelosuppression. Another treatment option used to decrease intoxication and ameliorate side effects of cancer therapy is sorption technology. The aim of our investigation was to study the efficiency of combined use of enterosorption and G-CSF to decrease gonadal toxicity of chemotherapy. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Melphalan (L-PAM) injected i.v. at a single dose of 4 mg/kg to white inbred rats was used as gonadotoxic and myelosuppressing agent. Carbon enterosorbent C2 was administered by intragastric route as a suspension in saline at a dose of 5 ml per 1 kg of rats' body weight (or 900 mg/kg of the dry mass of enterosorbent) daily for 3 days before and for 7 days after L-PAM injection. G-CSF was injected once a day for 4 days starting from the next day after L-PAM administration at a dose of 50 µg/kg. Histological preparations of testicular tissues were examined by light microscopy. RESULTS: Our findings have shown that melphalan caused marked damage of testicular tissues and seminiferous, especially spermatogenic epithelium. The most expressed protection of the histological structure of testes was observed when enterosorbent and G-CSF were used in combination. CONCLUSION: Gonadal toxicity of chemotherapy could be efficiently decreased by the combined use of enterosorption and G-CSF.

RESUMEN

In vitro experiments showed that heparin adsorbed on activated charcoal can bind antibodies raised against native and single-stranded DNA in a diluted sera pool with a high level of these DNA. Thus, heparin used as anticoagulant during hemosorption procedure can demonstrate supplementary therapeutic activity resulting from its interaction with various agents involved in acute and chronic inflammatory reactions such as DNA- and RNA-binding substances, proinflammatory cytokines, complement components, growth factors, etc. Research and development of heparin-containing carbonic adsorbents for the therapy of numerous inflammatory and autoimmune diseases seems to be a promising avenue in hematology.
