RESUMEN

Objective: To investigate the effectiveness of hip continuous passive motion (hCPM) on hip development at skeletal maturity and gross motor function for spastic cerebral palsy children with hip dysplasia. Methods: Prospective case-control research of hCPM with goal-directed training versus merely goal-directed training. On the basis of goal-directed training, the hCPM group used the hip joint CPM instrument (the external fixator was connected to the power device to make the hip joint carry out continuous passive movement) for 40-60 min, twice a day, and five times a week, and received continuous training for 8 weeks simultaneously. The control group received only goal-directed training for 8 weeks. Functional outcomes pertaining to the affected hip joints were assessed via gross motor function measure (GMFM), migration percentage (MP), acetabular index (AI), and Harris hip functional score (HHS) at the time of enrollment and the end of the intervention. Results: The case-control research included 65 participants (mean age = 46.20 months, SD = 17.09 months; Gross Motor Function Grading System level: III = 41, IV = 24) who were randomly selected to either the hCPM (n = 45) or the control group (n = 20). No differences were found in baseline (acquisition phase) GMFM, MP, AI, or HHS (t = -1.720, P = 0.090; t* = 1.836, P* = 0.071; t# = -1.517, P# = 0.139; t* = -1.310, P* = 0.195; t# = -1.084, P# = 0.097; t = -1.041, P = 0.301). At the 8-week follow-up, GMFM, MP, AI, and HHS significantly improved over baseline in the hCPM group (hCPM group: t = 18.59, 20.172*, 40.291#, 16.820*, 32.900#, 28.081; P < 0.001). Between-group differences at 8-week follow-up times points favored the hCPM group for GMFM (t = -2.637, P = 0.011), MP (t* = 2.615, P* = 0.014; t# = 3.000, P# = 0.006), AI (t* = 2.055, P* = 0.044; t# = 2.223, P# = 0.030), HHS (t = -4.685, P < 0.001) (*: left side; #: right side). Conclusion: Spastic cerebral palsy children with hip dysplasia achieved meaningful functional improvement after 8 weeks of goal-directed training with hCPM therapy.

RESUMEN

The cycloaddition reaction of CO2 to epoxides is quite promising for CO2 capture and storage as well as the production of value-added fine chemicals. Herein, a novel atomically precise lead-doped titanium-oxide cluster with the formula Ti10Pb2O16(phen)4(Ac)12(DMF)2 (denoted as Ti10Pb2; phen = 1,10-phenanthroline; Ac = acetate; DMF = dimethylformamide) was synthesized through a facile solvothermal process, and is a molecular photocatalyst with surface-anchored main-group metal active sites. Its structure was characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction and other complementary techniques. Ti10Pb2 showed high photo-response and charge-separation efficiency under simulated sunlight irradiation. Ti10Pb2 was successfully used in the cycloaddition reaction of CO2 with epoxides under solvent-free conditions. While its catalytic activity due to the Lewis acidity was moderate, simulated solar light irradiation further enhanced the reaction rate, demonstrating the synergistic effect of photocatalysis and Lewis-acid thermocatalysis.

RESUMEN

The CO2 cycloaddition to epoxides is an efficient method for CO2 capture and storage, important not only for reducing greenhouse gas emission but also for producing cyclic carbonates, which are valuable industrial materials. In this study, we report a novel high-nuclearity titanium oxide cluster (TOC) inlayed with main-group element Pb2+, H2Ti16Pb9O24(SA)18(DMF)10(OH2)2 (denoted as 1; SA = salicylate; DMF = N,N-dimethylformamide), which has the property of visible-light absorption and has shown high catalytic activities for cycloadditions of CO2 under visible-light irradiation. The cluster was synthesized in a high yield in a facial solvothermal process. Its structure and electronic structure were characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, density functional theory calculations, and complementary techniques. The cycloaddition reactions were performed under solvent-free conditions. While the catalytic activity due to the Lewis acidity was moderate, visible-light irradiation further folded the reaction rates. The turnover number reached 3400 with a turnover frequency of 120 h-1. Mechanism studies indicated a synergistic effect of the Lewis acidity and photogenerated charge carriers. The performance of 1 in reversible I2 uptake was also investigated. This study demonstrates the high potential of heterometal-decorated TOCs in the cost-effective and efficient CO2 cycloaddition reaction under mild conditions.

RESUMEN

The solvothermal reaction of titanium isopropoxide and chromate in the presence of benzoate produced two novel host-guest clusters encapsulating Cs+ or H3O+, (H3O)@Ti7Cr14 and Cs@Ti7Cr14. The most remarkable feature is that the Ti7O7 ring is concentrically embraced by a Cr14O14 ring to form a rigid Ti7Cr14 host. ESI-MS and 133Cs NMR revealed that the overall framework structures are preserved, whereas the benzoate ligands on the two clusters may be labile in solutions. Both (H3O)@Ti7Cr14 and Cs@Ti7Cr14 exhibit good UV-vis light-responsive properties and photocatalytic activities, with absorption edges extending up to 780 nm. Cs@Ti7Cr14 is an effective visible-light-responsive photocatalyst in both the heterogeneous methylene dye degradation and homogeneous CO2 cycloaddition reaction under mild conditions like room temperature and 1 bar of CO2. According to the mechanism studies, Cs+, as a rigid guest, can significantly improve the photogenerated charge separation efficiency of the Ti7Cr14 host, thereby improving its interface charge separation properties, photocurrent, and photocatalytic activities. Our findings not only provide new members of heterometallic titanium oxide clusters to enrich the metal oxide cluster family but also open up new possibilities for their photoresponses, which may play an important role in solar energy harvesting for sustainable chemistry.

RESUMEN

Two nanosized titanium-oxide clusters (TOCs), Ti12(µ2-O)14(µ3-O)4PA16 (1; PA = 2-picolinate) and Ti12(µ2-O)18PA18 (2) were synthesized by using 2-picolinic acid and Ti(OiPr)4 in one-pot reactions. Their structures were determined using single-crystal X-ray diffractometry. Although both have the same core composition of Ti12O18, 1 exhibited superior H2 evolution activity of up to 180 µmol h-1 g-1, which is nearly eight times faster than 2. Mechanism studies revealed that 1 could induce the assembly of 2.3 nm PtNPs into 10-30 nm supra-nanoparticle structures, which contributed to the increased H2 evolution rate.

RESUMEN

The study investigated the effects of high-pressure processing (HPP) (600 MPa/5 min), pasteurization (PT) (85 °C/30 s), and high-temperature short time (HTST) (110 °C/8.6 s) on physicochemical parameters (sugar, acid, pH, TSS), sensory-related attributes (color, aroma compounds), antioxidants (phenolics, vitamin C, carotenoids, antioxidant capacity), and sensory attributes of yellow passion fruit purée (PFP). Compared to the PT and HTST, HPP obtained the PFP with better color, sugar, and organic acid profiles. Although PT was equally effective preservation of antioxidants and antioxidant capacity of PFP compared to HPP, high temperature inevitable resulted in the greater degradation of the aroma profile. The amounts of esters, alcohols, and hydrocarbon in PFP were significantly increased by 11.3%, 21.3%, and 30.0% after HPP, respectively. All samples were evaluated by a panel comprising 30 panelists according to standard QDA (quantitative descriptive analysis) procedure, and the result showed that HPP-treated PFP was rated the highest overall intensity score with 7.06 for its sensory attributes, followed by control (6.96), HTST (6.17), and PT (6.16). Thus, HPP is a suitable alternative technology for achieving the good sensory quality of PFP without compromising their nutritional properties.

RESUMEN

Six titanium-oxide clusters (TOCs) comprised of 6-19 Ti atoms all of which are of nanometer size were synthesized with the functionalization of 2-picolinate (PA). Their structures were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction and a few complementary spectroscopic techniques. The binding modes of PA on the surface of the TOCs were analyzed and found to be limited to only one binding mode, that is, PA acts as a bidentate ligand through both pyridyl-N and the carboxylate-O. UV-vis diffuse reflection spectra and electron paramagnetic resonance spectra indicate the ligand-to-metal charge transfer (LMCT) through the N-Ti bond. However, the LMCT band in the visible light region (400-600 nm) is very weak. Hence, picolinates do not bring about intense visible light absorption to TOCs. The binding mode of PA on the TOC surfaces and the LMCT revealed herein may be inspiring for studies on classical picolinate/TiO2-based dye-sensitized solar cells.

RESUMEN

In this study, combining metabolome and transcriptome, color related attributes and phenolic compositions of Tunisian pomegranate arils from 7 Chinese regions at same developing stage were studied. The total anthocyanin (TAC), flavonoids, and percent polymeric color (PPC) were ranged at 8.93-28.41 mg/100 g arils, 37.55-69.72 mg/100 g arils, and 3.38-21.96%, respectively. In total, 51 phenolic compounds were characterized, most of which were markedly higher in reddish-purple pomegranate arils than those levels in reddish pomegranate arils. In contrast, the accumulation of tannins was significantly higher in reddish pomegranate arils. Among the 49 differentially expressed genes, 8 and 5 genes were matched to ß-glucosidase and peroxidase, respectively. Correlation analysis showed that PPC was negatively correlated with 10 phenolic metabolites and TAC, positively correlated with L*, polymeric color, and 1 gene (|r| > 0.7, p < 0.01). Our results provide new insights for understanding the difference in coloration of pomegranate arils.

RESUMEN

A three-dimensional (3D) mesoporous material with an atomically precise structure, Ti16Pb5O16(C6H5CO2)2(OCH3)40 (Ti16Pb5), comprised of a novel high-nuclearity Pb-doped titanium oxide cluster (TOC), was synthesized. Ti16Pb5 exhibited a surface area of 45 m2 g-1 and a pore diameter of 3.5 nm. It exhibited an uptake capacity of I2 of ≤2.2 g g-1 in vapor, and the performance was maintained after seven uptake-release cycles. Ti16Pb5 also showed a high adsorption ratio and capacity (93% and 3.1 g g-1) in hexane. The characterization data, including Fourier transform infrared, Raman, and powder X-ray diffraction, suggested the lattice structure of Ti16Pb5 was rigid and I2 was accommodated in the pores of Ti16Pb5. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first example of using a TOC in I2 adsorption. In addition, Ti16Pb5 showed excellent activity and recyclability in visible-light degradation of dye pollutants and photocurrent generation. Our structural analysis suggested the alkoxide ligands within the channels of Ti16Pb5 build up a confined polar environment and thereby facilitate I2 accommodation, and meanwhile, the improved performances and stabilities of Ti16Pb5 are correlated with its cluster-based, 3D hierarchical structure.

RESUMEN

High pressure processing (HPP) exhibited different effect on polyphenol oxidase (PPO), but the conformational changes was not clear yet. In this study, molecular dynamics simulation combined with spectroscopic experiments were used to explore PPO conformational changes under high pressure at the molecular level. The simulation results showed that high pressure decreased volume and hydrogen bonds, induced changes in active center and movement of loop. Especially, the conformational changes under 200 and above 400 MPa were different. Under 200 MPa, the distance between His 61 and Cu decreased by 0.4 Å, active pocket was exposed, substrate channel became larger. However, the distance increased by 6.1 Å under 600 MPa, active pocket moved inward, substrate channel became narrower. Docking results of 200 and 600 MPa had the highest and lowest binding affinity, whose T-score was 4.657 and 4.130, respectively. These results were consistent with spectroscopic experiments of PPO after HHP.

RESUMEN

[2]Catenane, [2]rotaxane, and [2]pseudorotaxane based on a cyclic titanium oxide cluster, [Ti8O8(SO4)16]16- (Ti8), and cyclic/linear alkylammonium cations are reported. Their syntheses, structures, spectroscopy, and stability in water were studied. These molecules were synthesized from and remained intact upon redissolution in acidic water. Hence, the cluster Ti8 is a promising metal oxide ring that can be used as an inorganic analogue of crown ether to assemble inorganic-organic hybrid mechanical interlocked supramolecular assemblies in water.

RESUMEN

Ovarian cancer (OC) is the most lethal gynecologic cancer, and the incidence of OC has risen steadily worldwide. Numerous microRNAs (miRNAs) have been found to be involved in the progression of OC. miR-204-5p is down-regulated and functions as a tumor suppressor in various types of human malignant tumors. However, the biological roles and molecular mechanisms of miR-204-5p in OC still remain unclear. In this study, the aberrant down-regulation of miR-204-5p was detected in OC tissues. We also observed that miR-204-5p overexpression represses OC cell proliferation. Ubiquitin-specific peptidase 47 (USP47) is verified as the functional target of miR-204-5p, through which it plays an important biological role in OC. Our results uncover new functions and mechanisms for miR-204-5p in the progression of OC, and provide a potential therapeutic target for the treatment of OC.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Some hydrolyzed peptides derived from food proteins possess antioxidant and anti-fatigue activities. In this study, egg white protein powder (EWPP) was hydrolyzed with pepsin for various times, and four peptide fractions were separated from the hydrolysates by ultrafiltration. The antioxidant activity of the four peptide fractions was determined. The peptide fraction with the strongest antioxidant activity was used to evaluate its anti-fatigue effect and probable mechanisms. RESULTS: The egg white peptides (EWPs) fraction with molecular weight 2-5 kDa (named EWPs2) showed stronger antioxidant activity than the other peptide fractions (P < 0.05). The swimming time to exhaustion of mice administered EWPs2 was longer (P < 0.05) than that of the control group. EWPs2 increased the levels of blood glucose (by 28.4-42.2%), muscle glycogen (by 6.4-10.6%) and liver glycogen (by 10.7-23.8%) and significantly decreased the levels of lactic acid in muscle and urea nitrogen in blood (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Among the four peptide fractions, EWPs2 possessed the strongest antioxidant activity and exhibited an anti-fatigue effect. The experimental data could clarify partially the anti-fatigue mechanisms of EWPs and provide an important basis for developing EWPs as safe and natural antioxidants and anti-fatigue agents for wide use.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Post-weaning multisystemic wasting syndrome (PMWS) associated with PCV2 is one of the most costly diseases currently faced by the swine industry. The development of effective vaccines against PCV2 infection has been accepted as an important strategy in the prophylaxis of PMWS. METHODS: In the present study, a PK-15 cell-adapted formalin-inactivated prototype vaccine candidate was prepared using a strain of PCV2 from China. Inactivation of the virus was accomplished using a standard formalin inactivation protocol. The protective properties of the inactivated PCV2 vaccine were evaluated in piglets. Ten 28-day-old pigs were randomly assigned to two groups, each with five. Group 1 was vaccinated intramuscularly with the inactivated virus preparation; Group 2 received sterile PBS as a placebo. By 28 days post-vaccination (DPV), Groups 1 and 2 were challenged intranasally and intramuscularly with 5 × 107 TCID50 of a virulent PCV2 isolate. RESULTS: The vaccinated pigs seroconverted to PCV2 and had high levels of serum antibodies to PCV2 at 28 days after vaccination, whereas the control pigs remained seronegative. No significant signs of clinical disease were recorded following the challenge with PCV2, but moderate amounts of PCV2 antigen were detected in most lymphoid organs of the control pigs. PCV2 was detected in two out of the five vaccinated pigs. Furthermore, pathological lesions and viremia were milder in the vaccinated group. CONCLUSIONS: The obtained results indicate that the inactivated PCV2 virus vaccine with an oil adjuvant induce an immunological response in pigs that appears to provide protection from infection with PCV2. The vaccine, therefore, may have the potential to serve as a vaccine aimed to protect pigs from developing PMWS.
