RESUMEN

SUMMARY: In the sports field, sports are usually classified according to the predominance of the energy system used during the competition; sports like Crossfit and ultra-marathon could be totally opposite due to the needs of athletes to achieve good places. Due to the above, the objective was established to compare the dermatoglyphic profiles of CrossFit and Ultra-marathon athletes according to the predisposition of the energy systems, aerobic and anaerobic, used in the competitions. Cross-sectional descriptive study, where the dermatoglyphic profile of 21 athletes of national presence (10 crossfit and 11 ultra-marathon runners) was determined, through the Computerized Dermatoglyphic System, brand Salus Dermatoglifia, according to the Cummins and Midlo protocol, which consists of taking the fingerprints of the 10 fingers of the hands. The fingerprint designs of the human being (arch, loop and whorl) and the elements contained in them (nucleus and delta) were analyzed, differences were established through the Analysis of Variance test in the SPSS V.25 statistical package. The results show significant differences between the average scores of the line count of both disciplines (108 and 165), being higher in ultra-marathon runners, associated with greater aerobic resistance. Another significant and relevant finding was the presence of arch-type fingerprints only in CrossFit athletes associated, along with low line count, with strength and power. It is concluded that Crossfit and Ultra-marathon athletes have dissimilar natural physical characteristics, which is why they participate and excel in different sports where they have enhanced their natural physical abilities through training.

Events occurring during the gestational period can influence the development of diseases and conditions such as obesity. This study aimed to analyze the association between events occurring in the gestational period and the occurrence of obesity in children based on dermatoglyphic traits. The sample comprised 73 children born in 2009, living in Palhoça, Santa Catarina (SC), Brazil, regularly enrolled in public and private schools in that municipality and who are participants of an ongoing major cohort study project called Coorte Brasil Sul. The results show predictive traits of obesity when comparing BMI and fingerprint groups. Obese male group, presented the figure Ulnar Loop (UL) in the right hand (MDT1) thumb and greater number of ridges in the (MDSQL1) right thumb the greater the BMI; likewise, the older the woman getting pregnant the greater the number of ridges that the child presented in the (MESQL2) left index finger and (MESQL1) right thumb. The results obtained infer the presence of predictive traits of BMI ranges and a possible association between the dermatoglyphic traits of children with obesity and late pregnancy women.

RESUMEN

At the end of 2019, a new disease with pandemic potential appeared in China. It was a novel coronavirus called coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Later, in the first quarter of 2020, the World Health Organization declared the outbreak of this disease a pandemic. Elderly people, people with comorbidities, and health care professionals are more vulnerable to COVID-19. Obesity has been growing exponentially worldwide, affecting several age groups. It is a morbidity that is associated with genetic, epigenetic, environment factors and/or interaction between them. Obesity is associated with the development of several diseases including diabetes mellitus, mainly type 2. Diabetes affects a significant portion of the global population. Obesity and diabetes are among the main risk factors for the development of severe symptoms of COVID-19, and individuals with these conditions constitute a risk group. Based on a literature review on obesity in people with diabetes in the framework of the COVID-19 pandemic, this study presents updated important considerations and care to be taken with this population.

RESUMEN

Teacher-endorsed supporting behaviors present themselves as key influencers of student adaptive academic and social functions. The objective of this paper was twofold. First, this study sought to test a model in which student-perceived autonomy support was associated with group cohesion, considering the mediating role of basic psychological needs satisfaction and intrinsic motivation. Second, the current study examined the dimensionality of the model across five Western countries, namely Spain, Portugal, Brazil, Chile, and Mexico. A convenience sample of 3033 college students (Mage = 21.51 ± SD = 3.71) were recruited for the analysis. The results revealed that perceived autonomy support was positively associated with needs satisfaction, being consequently associated with intrinsic motivation and, ultimately, with group cohesion. Additionally, a multigroup analysis revealed that the model was invariant across college students from the different countries. The current results are discussed around the promotion of teacher uses of autonomy-supportive behaviors fostering adaptive outcomes in students regarding positive social relations and that the cultures of Ibero-American countries are equivalent in this process.

RESUMEN

ABSTRACT Played all over the world, golf has gained popularity, for it is a sport that depends on individual abilities. For this reason the search for tools that aim to seek and guide its respective talented players has become very important. Therefore, this study had the objective of comparing the distribution of the dermatoglyphic indicators of high performance golfers and of a group control of non-athletes. The sample was composed of 46 individuals with paired age and gender, divided into two groups: the Group Golf (GG), composed of 23 golfers, and the Group Control (GC), composed of 23 individuals control randomly selected. The golfers, part of the Project Golf Brazil of the Brazilian Golf Confederation, were between 11 and 21 years old. The results demonstrated that the number of lines in the pattern was of six possible variables of fingerprint (MESQL1, MESQL2, MESQL4, MESQL5, SQTLE, SQTL) is significantly higher in the golfers (GG) when compared to the group control (GC). When observed the qualitative variables, i. e., the pattern type, significant diferences where observed between the groups, since the golfers (GG) presented more Radial Loops (RL) in MDT5 when compared to the group control (GC). The results found in this study demonstrated that the dermatoglyphic profile of high performance golfers differ from the non-athlete population.

Abstract The aim of this study was to identify the motivational profile and relate it to teacher autonomy support, basic psychological needs, exercise enjoyment, and level of physical activity in a sample of 615 Brazilian adolescents (327 girls and 288 boys), aged between 12 and 14 years (M = 13.3, DT = .79). One group was identified as more self-determined with high intrinsic motivation and introjected regulation scores, while the other showed no self-determination, with high external regulation and demotivation. Self-determined adolescents perceive greater teacher support; exhibit better fulfillment of basic psychological needs for autonomy, competence, and relatedness; show greater enjoyment in physical education classes and engage in more physical activity.

ABSTRACT Introduction: Aging leads to decline in multiple organ systems associated to hormone alterations and loss of muscle mass and strength. Objective: To evaluate the effects of land and water resistance training on muscle strength, basal serum levels of GH, IGF-1, and IGFBP3 in elderly women. Methods: Subjects were distributed in three groups: land resistance training (LRT; n=10; age: 66.10±2.77 years), water resistance training (WRT; n=10; age: 67.10±3.54 years) and control (CG; n=10; age: 68.80±5.41 years). Muscle strength was assessed with the 1-RM test in bench press (BP) and leg press (LP) exercises. Serum levels of GH, IGF-1, and IGFBP3 were analyzed by chemiluminescence. Results: Repeated measures ANOVA showed elevated muscle strength in the BP only in LRT (D%=60.2%; p=0.0001) when compared to the CG (D%=46.73%, p=0.0001) and WRT (D%=32.49%, p=0.004). LRT and WRT increased muscle strength in LP (D%LRT=57.14%; p=0.004; D%WRT=42.3%; p=0.033). There was an increase in LRT and WRT in the LP when compared to CG (D%=45.59%, p=0.019; D%=43.97%, p=0.026, respectively). IGF-1 was elevated only in LRT (D%=49.72%, p=0.004) from pre- to post-test and when compared to WRT (D%=56.76%, p=0.002) and CG (D%=74.63%, p=0.0001). IGFBP3 levels showed that only WRT increased (D%=26.79%, p=0.044) from pre- to post-test. The IGF-1/IGFBP3 ratio demonstrated that LRT reached intragroup elevation (D%=52.66%, p=0.002) and when compared to WRT (D%=94.11%, p=0.0001) and CG (D%=73.45%, p=0.0001). There was no significant difference in GH. Conclusion: Land resistance training may provide better anabolic effects in elderly women.

TFT e TFA aumentaram a força muscular no LP (∆% TFT = 57,14%; p = 0,004; ∆% TFA = 42,3%; p = 0,033). Houve um aumento no TFT e TFA no LP em comparação com o GC (∆% = 45,59%, p = 0,019; ∆% = 43,97%, p = 0,026, respectivamente). IGF-1 aumentou só no TFT (∆% = 49,72%, p = 0,004) do pré para o pós-teste e quando comparado ao TFA (∆% = 56,76%, p = 0,002) e ao GC (∆% = 74,63%, p = 0,0001). Os níveis de IGFBP3 mostraram aumento apenas no TFA (∆% = 26,79%, p = 0,044) do pré para o pós-teste. A razão IGF-1/IGFBP3 demonstrou que TFT atingiu elevação intragrupo (∆% = 52,66%, p = 0,002) e quando comparado ao TFA (∆% = 94,11%, p = 0,0001) e CG (∆% = 73,45%, p = 0,0001). Não foram verificadas diferenças significativas no GH. Conclusão: O treinamento de força no meio terrestre produziu maior efeito anabólico nas idosas.

RESUMEN

Objective : The aim of this study was to determine the effects of a physical activity program on static balance in elderly women. Method : The sample was randomly subdivided into an experimental group (EG; n=28; 65.64±2.36 years; BMI= 27.52±3.13) and a control group (CG; n=21; 66.84±2.31 years; BMI= 27.67±2.78). The EG participated in twice-weekly 60-minute sessions of physical activity for 12 weeks, with a perceived intensity level between 3 and 5 (CR10 scale). Static balance was evaluated using a baropodometric platform. Mean postural amplitude oscillations were measured in displacement from the center of pressure (COP), left lateral (LLD), right lateral (RLD), anterior (AD) posterior (PD) and elliptical (EA) area. Results : Repeated-measures analysis of variance showed a significant decrease in EG pre and post-test oscillations (p<0.05) in the COP, AD (∆=0.59;p=0.021), PD (∆=-0.91; p=0.001) and EA (∆=1.56; p=0.044) displacement. When comparing the groups, post-test amplitude oscillations in the COP, RLD (∆%=-7.40;p=0.006), AD (∆%=-30.63; p=0.007), PD (∆%=-42.96; p<0.001) and EA (∆%=-34.41;p=0.017) of the EG were significantly lower (p<0.05) than those of the CG. There were no significant LLD alterations. Conclusion : The results confirm that static balance improved with physical exercise in EG subjects.

INTRODUÇÃO: O treinamento engloba, dentre outras qualidades físicas, a flexibilidade e a força.

INTRODUCTION: Training includes, among other physical qualities, flexibility and strength. Thus, knowing the mutual inter-relationships between these physical qualities would increase the effectiveness of training. OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to verify changes in neuromuscular parameters in a static flexibilizing program, after 12 weeks of intervention. METHODS: 70 cadets, mean age of 17.03 ± 1.14 years, participated in the present survey, were randomly selected and equally divided into two groups: experimental group (EG, n = 35) and control group (CG, n = 35). Strength levels were assessed by 1RM static contraction in horizontal shoulder flexion and extension (HSF/ HSE) and lumbar spine extension (LSE). Flexibility was assessed by the goniometry LABIFIE protocol in shoulder horizontal flexion and extension (SHF /SHE) and lumbar spine flexion (LSF). The urinary hydroxyproline concentration collected by the Nordin method was performed through HPROLI 2h protocol. RESULTS: ANOVA for repeated measures evidenced significant increase for SHF (Δ% = 3.9%, p = 0.001), SHE (Δ% = 21.1%, p = 0.001), LSF (Δ% = 73.8%, p = 0.001), SHF (Δ% = 20.4%, p = 0.001) and FELS (Δ% = 4.0%, p = 0.008) from pre to post-test. The hydroxyproline levels did not change significantly. Concerning intergroup comparisons, significant differences were found for SHF (p = 0.016), SHE (p = 0.005), LSF (p = 0.004), SHF (p = 0.001) and FELS (p = 0.007). The power of the experiment observed was of 86% for an estimated beta of 0.14. CONCLUSION: The static flexibilizing was able to improve both flexibility and strength.

Based on the divergences about the influence of flexibility upon strength, the main goal was to evaluate if the application of different volumes in the flexibility training can cause different effects on the explosive strength in 24 adult women. The three days of tests started with a 10-minute warm-up. In the first day, it was realized a vertical jump without the application of any training routine, and after 10 minutes the same was done. In the second day (F1), there was an inclusion of the routine of static flexibilizing exercises with the application of a series of 10-second hold. The same was done in the third day (F3), although, using 3 series. It was concluded that the two applied volumes (F1 e F3) interfered negatively in the capacity of jumping in the individuals of the feminine gender, although, the same do not differed significantly between themselves. This way, different volumes of static flexibilizing do not cause proportional reductions on the explosive strength.
