RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: Identify structural disorders of the surface of the enamel of a human tooth during the development of the carious process in the «white spot¼ stage using atomic force microscopy (AFM). MATERIAL AND METODS: The studies were carried out on 10 molar samples in areas with initial caries in the white spot stage. 6 areas of initial caries were scanned using the atomic force microscope Cetus Light (Nano Scan Technology, Russia) in semi-contact mode. Criteria were proposed for comparing the results of AFM scanning of tooth enamel surface samples and, based on them, the nature of the main structural disorders of the enamel surface in the affected area was determined. RESULTS: For all the samples studied, the healthy enamel surface was smoother compared to the enamel in the area of the clinically visible «white spot¼ and in the immediate vicinity of it. The heterogeneity of the enamel surface in the center of the white spot¼ for all the samples studied was at least 60% higher than at the edge of the process. It was revealed that the heterogeneity of the surface outside the clinically visible white spot at a distance of less than 1 mm from its perimeter is at least 30% higher than that of healthy tissue of the same tooth. It is shown that the heterogeneity of the enamel surface in the center of the caries area in the white spot stage is at least 4 times greater than the heterogeneity of the surface of the healthy enamel of the same tooth, which indicates its demineralization. CONCLUSION: The established features of the spread of the initial carious process can be used in clinical practice for the diagnosis and dynamic observation of the processes of enamel demineralization.

RESUMEN

The purpose of the work is to present materials on the history of Russian dentistry in connection with the 100th anniversary of an outstanding scientist, clinician, one of the patriarchs of Russian dentistry, a veteran of the great Patriotic war, associate Professor Tatyana Strelyukhina who was at the origins of the specialty and was among the first to create domestic dental materials science.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: To determine the effect of whitening toothpastes on the color of a nanocomposite material using a spectrophotometer. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The study involved 50 samples from nanocomposite restoration material which were exposed under laboratory conditions to brushing with one of 4 types of toothpastes (control with no bleaching agents, peroxide paste with carbamide, abrasive and enzyme-based pastes). Using the parameters a, b and L obtained by spectrophotometry, delta E (ΔE) value was calculated. To determine the maximum and minimum A posteriori comparisons by the Scheffe method were used to influence the delta E parameter after exposure to the pastes. Oxygen-containing paste (OZPP) had a maximum effect on the increase of the ΔE parameter, ΔE=1.03 comparing to ΔE=0.20 in control toothpaste. The isolated effect of a toothbrush resulted in a large change in the parameter ΔE, compared to the effect of a controls. However, the ΔE does not indicate the clarification of the material, but only a change in color relative to the initial measurement. As a result of spectrophotometry and statistical data processing, it was found that all pastes had a sufficient effect on the color change for the device to determine, but this change was not noticeable to the human eye.

RESUMEN

The purpose of the publication was to present the materials of the Expert Council Consensus on 'A Modern View on the Treatment and Preventive Effect of Fluoride Containing Personal Oral Care Products', which took place on April 21, 2019 in Moscow (Russia) with the support of the pharmaceutical company JSC GlaskoSmitKlein Helsker. During the work of the expert council, a solution was developed for the safe use of fluoride-containing oral hygiene products as part of fluoride prevention of dental caries. In the real conditions of everyday life, it is advisable for dentists to: use local fluoride-containing agents to know the concentration of fluoride in drinking water and in areas with low and optimal levels of it; recommend fluorides for daily use in small concentrations, for example, for children from 2 years of age to brush their teeth twice a day with fluoride toothpaste for at least 3 minutes; children up to 6 years old, when brushing their teeth once, use no more than a pea-size piece of toothpaste with 500 ppm of fluoride; toothpastes with fluoride concentration from 500 to 5000 ppm should be admitted depending on the risk level of caries development; rinses with a fluoride concentration of 0.025-0.05% should be recommended for children from 6 years and adults twice a day for 1 minute after brushing teeth; for patients with a high risk of caries, periodically (from 2 to 6 times a year) to carry out applications with agents with high concentration of fluorides; for prolonging the effect of local fluorine-containing agents advise patients to refrain from eating and drinking for an hour after their use. Dentists should know the methods of fluoride use in dentistry, since fluoride prevention of caries should be an integral part of their therapeutic and preventive work.

RESUMEN

The aim of the study was to analyze research methods for periodontitis severity and elaborate the most effective diagnostic combination. Twenty patients with moderate periodontal disease were included in the study. In addition to conventional diagnostic methods depth of periodontal pockets (PP) was measured by means of endoscopic system and cone bean CT. Differences in PP depth estimated by probing and endoscopic evaluation was 1.2±0.4 mm proving endoscopic method to be useful and most precise tool for periodontal diagnostics.
