RESUMEN

Carbonate bound arsenic act as an important reservoir for arsenic (As) in nature aquifers. Sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB), one of the dominant bacterial species in reductive groundwater, profoundly affects the biogeochemical cycling of As. However, whether and how SRB act on the migration and transformation of carbonate bound arsenic remains to be elucidated. Batch culture experiment was employed using filed collected arsenic bearing calcite to investigate the release and species transformation of As by SRB. We found that arsenic in the carbonate samples mostly exist as inorganic As(V) (93.92 %) and As(III). The present of SRB significantly facilitated arsenic release from carbonates with a maximum of 22.3 µg/L. The main release mechanisms of As by SRB include 1) calcite dissolution and the liberate of arsenic in calcite lattices, and 2) the break of H-bonds frees arsenic absorbed on carbonate surface. A redistribution of arsenic during culture incubation took place which may due to the precipitation of As2Sx or secondary FeAl minerals. To our best knowledge, it is the first experimental study focusing on the release of carbonate bound arsenic by SRB. This study provides new insights into the fate and transport of arsenic mediated by microorganism within high arsenic groundwater-sediment system.

RESUMEN

Chikungunya virus (CHIKV) is a globally public health threat. There are currently no medications available to treat CHIKV infection. High-throughput screening of 419 kinase inhibitors was performed based on the cytopathic effect method, and six kinase inhibitors with reduced cytopathic effects, including tyrphostin AG879 (AG879), tyrphostin 9 (A9), sorafenib, sorafenib tosylate, regorafenib, and TAK-632, were identified. The anti-CHIKV activities of two receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitors, AG879 and A9, that have not been previously reported, were selected for further evaluation. The results indicated that 50% cytotoxic concentration (CC50) of AG879 and A9 in Vero cells were greater than 30 µM and 6.50 µM, respectively and 50% effective concentration (EC50) were 0.84 µM and 0.36 µM, respectively. The time-of-addition and time-of-removal assays illustrated that both AG879 and A9 function in the middle stage of CHIKV life cycle. Further, AG879 and A9 do not affect viral attachment; however, they inhibit viral RNA replication, and exhibit antiviral activity against CHIKV Eastern/Central/South African and Asian strains, Ross River virus and Sindbis virus in vitro.

RESUMEN

In the rapidly evolving landscape of sports news and sports psychology, driven by the proliferation of mobile Internet and Internet media in China, it is essential to recognize two pivotal factors shaping the discourse. Firstly, there is the imperative 'construction of new liberal arts' within professional knowledge education. Secondly, the practice of news communication is undergoing transformative changes due to media integration, particularly in the context of sports news concerning Chinese athletes. These two dynamics together create a favorable environment, underpinned by robust policy support, for interdisciplinary research at the intersection of sports psychology and sports news communication. Within the academic realm, our efforts must be attuned to the evolving curriculum and the unique challenges posed by this dynamic landscape. Such an approach is instrumental in advancing in-depth interdisciplinary research at the confluence of sports psychology and the communication of sports news. Recent years have witnessed an upsurge in research interest in media communication, with a pronounced emphasis on sports. In light of this, we have a unique opportunity to conduct a comprehensive analysis of interdisciplinary interactions within the domain of sports news and sports psychology. To facilitate this, we propose employing advanced knowledge graph techniques and correlation analysis. In this specialized context, the interdisciplinary study of sports psychology and sports news communication can be envisaged as a dynamic process that involves the assimilation and dissemination of specialized knowledge. We advocate for the application of a network environment correlation analysis method rooted in knowledge mapping principles. This approach entails the development of a tailored knowledge map specific to the realm of sports news concerning Chinese athletes, within the framework of sports psychology. Furthermore, we will explore the creation of efficient storage and retrieval mechanisms to optimize the effectiveness of our research pursuits in this exciting and evolving field.(AU)

RESUMEN

Layer-by-layer self-assembly MoS2/C nanomaterials are constructed through the electrostatic adsorption between MoS2 nuclei with positive charge and C nuclei with negative charge using a facile one-step hydrothermal method. The layer-by-layer self-assembly MoS2/C catalysts with high exposure of catalytic hydrogenation active sites exhibit enhanced catalytic performance in phenanthrene hydrogenation.

RESUMEN

Introduction: Endometriosis (EM) is an aggressive, pleomorphic, and common gynecological disease. Its clinical presentation includes abnormal menstruation, dysmenorrhea, and infertility, which seriously affect the patient's quality of life. However, the pathogenesis underlying EM and associated regulatory genes are unknown. Methods: Telomere-related genes (TRGs) were uploaded from TelNet. RNA-sequencing (RNA-seq) data of EM patients were obtained from three datasets (GSE5108, GSE23339, and GSE25628) in the GEO database, and a random forest approach was used to identify telomere signature genes and build nomogram prediction models. Gene Ontology, Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes, and Gene Set Enrichment Analysis were used to identify the pathways involved in the action of the signature genes. Finally, the CAMP database was used to screen drugs for potential use in EM treatment. Results: Fifteen total genes were screened as EM-telomere differentially expressed genes. Further screening by machine learning obtained six genes as characteristic predictive of EM. Immuno-infiltration analysis of the telomeric genes showed that expressions including macrophages and natural killer cells were significantly higher in cluster A. Further enrichment analysis showed that the differential genes were mainly enriched in biological pathways like cell cycle and extracellular matrix. Finally, the Connective Map database was used to screen 11 potential drugs for EM treatment. Discussion: TRGs play a crucial role in EM development, and are associated with immune infiltration and act on multiple pathways, including the cell cycle. Telomere signature genes can be valuable predictive markers for EM.

RESUMEN

High-affinity K+ transporters (HKTs) are known as transmembrane cation transporters and are involved in Na+ or Na+-K+ transport in plants. In this study, a novel HKT gene SeHKT1;2 was isolated and characterized from the halophyte, Salicornia europaea. It belongs to subfamily I of HKT and shows high homology with other halophyte HKT proteins. Functional characterization of SeHKT1;2 indicated that it contributes to facilitating Na+ uptake in Na+-sensitive yeast strains G19, however, cannot rescue the K+ uptake-defective phenotype of yeast strain CY162, demonstrating SeHKT1;2 selectively transports Na+ rather than K+. The addition of K+ along with NaCl relieved the Na+ sensitivity. Furthermore, heterologous expression of SeHKT1;2 in sos1 mutant of Arabidopsis thaliana increased salt sensitivity and could not rescued the transgenic plants. This study will provide valuable gene resources for improving the salt tolerance in other crops by genetic engineering.

RESUMEN

Endometriosis is a hormone-dependent disease in women of reproductive age and seriously affects women's health. To analyze the involvement of sex hormone receptors in endometriosis development, we performed bioinformatics analysis using four datasets derived from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database, which may help us understand the mechanisms by which the sex hormones act in vivo in endometriosis patients. The enrichment analysis and protein-protein interaction (PPI) analysis of the differentially expressed genes (DEGs) revealed that there are different key genes and pathways involved in eutopic endometrium aberrations of endometriosis patients and endometriotic lesions, and sex hormone receptors, including androgen receptor (AR), progesterone receptor (PGR) and estrogen receptor 1 (ESR1), may play important roles in endometriosis development. Androgen receptor (AR), as the hub gene of endometrial aberrations in endometriotic patients, showed positive expression in the main cell types for endometriosis development, and its decreased expression in the endometrium of endometriotic patients was also confirmed by immunohistochemistry (IHC). The nomogram model established based on it displayed good predictive value.

RESUMEN

Groundwater arsenic pollution has received much attention worldwide for decades as a serious threat to public health, but the mechanisms responsible for arsenic mobilization are not fully understood. Groundwater and bore drilling sediment samples from Qiji county, a small geographical agricultural area with endemic arsenicosis, are collected for demonstrating the occurrence and speciation of arsenic in groundwater and sediments, and arsenic release between solid-liquid phase influenced by human activities. Results show that arsenic concentrations in groundwater vary from 5 µg/L to 19.6 µg/L, with 80% exceeding the maximum permissible limits required by WHO (10 µg/L) for drinking water and therefore constituting a health risk for humans. In a weak oxidizing environment (oxidation-reduction potential (ORP): 12.9 mV-151 mV), inorganic As(V) accounts for 85% of total dissolved As, which to some extent alleviates the harm of As pollution on humans. Total As content in the sediments is in the range of 6.98 mg/kg and 14.34 mg/kg (median of 10.71 mg/kg), three times higher than the average value of many countries. Sequential chemical leaching indicates that 11% of arsenic in sediments is labile bound and may be closely related to the arsenic in groundwater. Additionally, irrigation intensity contributes to arsenic release with diverse As3+/As5+ by dissolving weakly bound arsenic rapidly. Subsequently part of As(III) is oxidized to As(V). Competitive and/or alkaline desorption of As(V), which had been adsorbed by FeMn (hydrous)-oxides and carbonates in the unsaturated zone and the aquifer, exerts a significant role in releasing arsenic into the groundwater. Our study indicates that systematic management and regulation of irrigation intensity are required to prevent further deterioration of groundwater resources.

RESUMEN

The support of MgO/γ-Al2O3 was initially prepared by a multiple impregnation method and Pd was placed on the surface of the MgO/γ-Al2O3 support via incipient wetness impregnation. Pd/MgO/γ-Al2O3 (Pd/MAO) catalysts were systematically characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET), CO2-temperature-programmed desorption (TPD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), CO-Fourier transform infrared (CO-FTIR), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and tested in the CO oxidative coupling to dimethyl oxalate (DMO) reaction. Compared to Pd/γ-Al2O3, the catalytic activities of the Pd/MAO catalysts improved significantly. The Pd/MAO catalyst with a 30% mass ratio of Mg to γ-Al2O3 delivers 3 times higher STY of DMO than that of Pd/γ-Al2O3. It has been demonstrated that MgO covered γ-Al2O3 layer-by-layer forming MAO supports, which can increase surface basicity and the interaction between Pd particles and the MAO supports. Moreover, the relationship between metal and support interaction and catalytic performance was discussed.

RESUMEN

A novel feeding strategy was adopted in this study and the effect of reduction in hydraulic retention time (HRT) on the anaerobic digestion of chicken manure (CM) with a constant organic loading rate of 6.0gVS/L/d was investigated. The lab-scale CSTR was operated at 38°C and HRTCM was reduced from 52days to 5days. At HRTCM of 20-45days, the reactor was relatively stable in terms of the volumetric biogas production rates and specific biogas production (SBP), which were 2.2-2.4L/L/d and 338.3-418.7mL/gVSadded, respectively. However, process instability and VFA accumulation occurred when the HRTCM was reduced to 10days due to excess microbes washout. The reduction in HRTCM to 5days caused SBP to decrease to 198.7mL/gVSadded and the acetic acid content to exceed 6000mg/L. The biomass balance model showed that the biomass concentration at HRTCM of 20-52days (0.473-0.615gVSS/L) was notably higher than that at HRTCM of 5-10days (0.173gVSS/L).

RESUMEN

The purpose of this work was to compare the effect of temperature and relative humidity (RH) on the physical stability and dissolution of solid dispersions. Cinnarizine-Soluplus(®) solid dispersions (SDs) at three different drug loadings (10, 20 and 35 wt%) were prepared by hot melt extrusion and exposed to stress conditions: high temperatures (40 and 60 °C), high relative humidities (75% and 94% RH) and accelerated conditions (40 °C/75% RH) for 30 days, or stored at 25 °C for up to 5 months. Changes in solid state and dissolution of SDs were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) and dissolution testing. For samples under stress conditions, the results showed a reduced dissolution and a recrystallization of the drug with an increased crystallinity in the order of 40 °C/75% RH, >60 °C/0% RH, >25 °C/94% RH, >40 °C/0% RH, >25 °C/75% RH. For samples stored at 25 °C, nonlinear physical aging was observed and the dissolution also decreased although the SDs were still amorphous. The results indicated that temperature and humidity seemed to have comparable effects on the crystallization of cinnarizine-Soluplus(®) SDs. It is not reasonable to regard recrystallization as a sign of reduced dissolution, and glass transition temperature (Tg) may be a good indicator of the changes in dissolution.
