Background: Hamstring strains are common among elite athletes, but their effect on return to the same level of play in American football has been incompletely characterized. Purpose: Data on National Collegiate Athletics Association Division I college football players with acute hamstring strains were gathered to identify the effects these injuries have on both return to play and athletic performance regarding velocity, workload, and acceleration. Study Design: Case Series; Level of evidence, 4. Methods: Injury data for a single Division I football team were prospectively recorded over a 4-year period. Players wore global navigation satellite system and local positioning system (GNSS/LPS) devices to record movement data in practices and games. The practice and game data were cross-referenced to evaluate players with isolated acute hamstring strains. Comparisons were made regarding players' pre- and postinjury ability to maintain high velocity (>12 mph [19.3 kph]), maximal velocity, triaxial acceleration, and inertial movement analysis (IMA). There were 58 hamstring injuries in 44 players, of which 25 injuries from 20 players had GNSS/LPS data. Results: Players were able to return to play from all 25 injury incidences at a mean of 9.2 days. At the final mean follow-up of 425 days, only 4 players had reached preinjury function in all measurements; 12 players were able to return in 2 of the 4 metrics; and only 8 players reached their preinjury ability to maintain high velocity. For those who did not achieve this metric, there was a significant difference between pre- and postinjury values (722 vs 442 m; P = .016). A total of 14 players were able to regain their IMA. Players who returned to prior velocity or acceleration metrics did so at a mean of 163 days across all metrics. Conclusion: While players may be able to return to play after hamstring strain, many players do not reach preinjury levels of acceleration or velocity, even after 13.5 months. Further studies are needed to confirm these findings, assess clinical relevance on imaging performance, and improve hamstring injury prevention and rehabilitation.

AIMS: Lung cancer causes more deaths than any other cancer, globally and in Aotearoa New Zealand, where it disproportionately affects Maori. We aimed to understand Maori perspectives on lung cancer screening in Aotearoa New Zealand to guide its equity-focussed implementation, including identifying enablers and barriers. METHODS: We took a Kaupapa Maori based co-design approach to inform future screening, recruiting Maori current/ex-smokers and members of their whanau (family) for three focus group phases held in Auckland, Aotearoa New Zealand in August 2019. Participants responded to a proposed lung cancer screening pathway and shared their attitudes and beliefs about lung cancer and screening. Results were thematically analysed. RESULTS: The 21 Maori participants supported future lung cancer screening in Aotearoa New Zealand. Perceived benefits included being more informed about lung cancer and screening and enabling healthier future generations. Barriers to screening were previous negative health service experiences; fear; stigma; and access, including time, cost and transport. Enablers included providers' cultural competence; clear communication; a one-stop shop; and support with transport. A range of factors could potentially influence a decision to participate in screening. CONCLUSIONS: Participants favoured future lung cancer screening and identified key barriers and facilitators of screening.

BACKGROUND: Adherence to the 24-h movement guidelines is associated with various health benefits, but given the novelty of these integrative recommendations, little is known about year-to-year trends in guideline adherence in adolescents. This study investigated trends of adherence to the 24-h movement guidelines among US adolescents. METHODS: Data from 2011 to 2019 cycles of the Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System were used, which included 62 589 US adolescents aged 14-17 years (female: unweighted sample size = 31 876, 51%; weighted% = 50.1%). Participants self-reported their demographic information (i.e., sex, age, race/ethnicity), physical activity, screen time and sleep duration. Meeting the 24-h movement guidelines was operationalized as simultaneously engaging in 60 min or more of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity, no more than 2 h of screen time, and 8-10 h of sleep per day. Trend analysis was used to examine the secular changes in adherence to the integrated guidelines from 2011 to 2019. RESULTS: Downward trends in adherence to the 24-h movement guidelines were observed among adolescents from 2011 (3.6%) to 2019 (2.6%). After stratification by sex, age, and race/ethnicity, similar downward trends in the guideline adherence were observed in females and Black/African American adolescents. The lowest prevalence of meeting the individual guidelines was for the PA guidelines (25.6%). Movement guideline adherence was consistently lowest among females, older adolescents, and those who identified as Black/African American. CONCLUSIONS: Adherence to the 24-h movement guidelines has declined among US adolescents over the past decade. Interventions should prioritize an integrative approach that could increase concurrent adherence to each of the 24-h movement guideline, particularly among female, older and minority adolescents.

BACKGROUND: Globally, just one in five adolescents meet physical activity guidelines and three-quarters of the school day is spent sitting. It is unclear which types of school-based interventions strategies increase physical activity and reduce sedentary time among adolescents, or how these interventions are implemented influences their effectiveness. OBJECTIVE: The three aims of our systematic review were to (a) identify intervention strategies used within secondary school settings to improve students' movement behaviours throughout school-based initiatives, delivered at or by the school; (b) determine the overall effect of the interventions (meta-analysis) on physical activity (all intensities), sedentary time, cognitive/academic, physical health and/or psychological outcomes; and (c) describe factors related to intervention implementation. METHODS: Searches were conducted in MEDLINE complete, EMBASE, CINAHL, SPORTDiscus, APA PsycINFO, and ERIC in January 2023 for studies that (a) included high school-aged adolescents; (b) involved a school-based intervention to increase physical activity and/or decrease sedentary time; and (c) were published in English. Reported effects were pooled in meta-analyses where sufficient data were obtained. RESULTS: Eighty-five articles, representing 61 interventions, met the inclusion criteria, with 23 unique intervention strategies used. Interventions that involved whole-school approaches (i.e., physical activity sessions, environmental modifications, teacher training, peer support and/or educational resources) were favourably associated with most of the outcomes. The meta-analyses showed: (a) non-significant effects for sedentary time (Standardized mean difference [SMD] = -0.02; 95%CI, -0.14, 0.11), physical activity at all intensities (light: SMD= -0.01; 95%CI, -0.08, 0.05; moderate: SMD = 0.06; 95%CI, -0.09, 0.22; vigorous: SMD = 0.08; 95%CI, -0.02, 0.18; moderate-to-vigorous: SMD = 0.05; 95%CI, -0.01, 0.12) and waist circumference (SMD = 0.09; 95%CI, -0.03, 0.21), and (b) a small statistically significant decrease in body mass index (SMD= -0.09, 95%CI -0.16, -0.0). Factors related to intervention implementation were reported in 51% of the articles. CONCLUSION: While some intervention approaches demonstrated promise, small or null effects were found in meta-analyses. Future school-based interventions should utilize a whole-school approach designed to increase adolescents' activity across the day. Consistent reporting of implementation will increase understanding of how interventions are adopted, implemented and sustained. REGISTRATION: PROSPERO (CRD42020169988).

Transposition of teeth may present to the general dental practitioner and in some circumstances transposed teeth may present with other dental anomalies. Although dental transpositions are rare anomalies, management of transposed teeth can often be complex, requiring multidisciplinary management. It is therefore important for dentists to be familiar with the clinical and radiographic presentation of transpositions and understand the aetiology to aid early diagnosis and appropriate management.Clinical relevance: Dentists are best placed to detect transposed teeth and should be familiar with the clinical and radiographic presentation, aetiology, and classification of transpositions in order to aid early diagnosis and their subsequent management.

Background: Instability of the sternoclavicular joint (SCJ) is a rare problem that is often treated closed, with few published outcomes of surgical treatment with tendon graft reconstruction. Methods: We reviewed a consecutive series of patients who underwent tendon graft reconstruction for SCJ instability over a 7-year period. Cases with acute fractures or fewer than 2 years of follow-up were excluded. Pre- and postoperative function and pain were assessed using Single assessment numeric evaluation (SANE), simple shoulder test (SST), and visual analog scale (VAS) outcome measures. Results: Thirty cases were included, with 27 (90%) available for follow-up at a minimum of 2 years postoperatively. SANE scores improved from a median of 40 to 90. SST scores improved from a median of 3 positive responses to a median of 12 on a 12-point scale. VAS scores decreased from a median of 7 to 0 points. One patient underwent reoperation for recurrent instability and wound dehiscence. Three (11%) patients did not achieve a minimum 30% of maximum possible improvement in SST scores. Conclusions: Tendon graft reconstruction for SCJ instability is a safe procedure with a low complication rate and statistically and clinically significant improvements in patient-reported outcome measures at 2-year minimum follow-up. The fragmentation of plastic debris is a key pathway to the formation of microplastic pollution. These disintegration processes depend on the materials' physical and chemical characteristics, but insight into these interrelationships is still limited, especially under natural conditions. Five plastics of known polymer/additive compositions and processing histories were deployed in aquatic environments and recovered after six and twelve months. The polymer types used were linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE), oxo-degradable LLDPE (oxoLLDPE), poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET), polyamide-6 (PA6), and poly(lactic acid) (PLA). Four geographically distinct locations across Aotearoa/New Zealand were chosen: three marine sites and a wastewater treatment plant (WWTP). Accelerated UV-weathering under controlled laboratory conditions was also carried out to evaluate artificial ageing as a model for plastic degradation in the natural environment. The samples' physical characteristics and surface microstructures were studied for each deployment location and exposure time. The strongest effects were found for oxoLLDPE upon artificial ageing, with increased crystallinity, intense surface cracking, and substantial deterioration of its mechanical properties. However, no changes to the same extent were found after recovery of the deployed material. In the deployment environments, the chemical nature of the plastics was the most relevant factor determining their behaviours. Few significant differences between the four aquatic locations were identified, except for PA6, where indications for biological surface degradation were found only in seawater, not the WWTP. In some cases, artificial ageing reasonably mimicked the changes which some plastic properties underwent in aquatic environments, but generally, it was no reliable model for natural degradation processes. The findings from this study have implications for the understanding of the initial phases of plastic degradation in aquatic environments, eventually leading to microplastics formation. They can also guide the interpretation of accelerated laboratory ageing for the fate of aquatic plastic pollution, and for the testing of aged plastic samples.

An environmentally benign conductive composite that rapidly degrades in the presence of warm water via enzyme-mediated hydrolysis is described. This represents the first time that hydrolytic enzymes have been immobilized onto eco-friendly conductive carbon sources with the express purpose of degrading the encapsulating biodegradable plastic. Amano Lipase (AL)-functionalized carbon nanofibers (CNF) were compounded with polycaprolactone (PCL) to produce the composite film CNFAL-PCL (thickness ∼ 600 µm; CNFAL = 20.0 wt %). To serve as controls, films of the same thickness were also produced, including CNF-AL5-PCL (CNF mixed with AL and PCL; CNF = 19.2 wt % and AL = 5.00 wt %), CNF-PCL (CNF = 19.2 wt %), ALx-PCL (AL = x = 1.00 or 5.00 wt %), and PCL. The electrical performance of the CNF-containing composites was measured, and conductivities of 14.0 ± 2, 22.0 ± 5, and 31.0 ± 6 S/m were observed for CNFAL-PCL, CNF-AL5-PCL, and CNF-PCL, respectively. CNFAL-PCL and control films were degraded in phosphate buffer (2.00 mg/mL film/buffer) at 50 °C, and their average percent weight loss (Wtavg%) was recorded over time. After 3 h CNFAL-PCL degraded to a Wtavg% of 90.0% and had completely degraded after 8 h. This was considerably faster than CNF-AL5-PCL, which achieved a total Wtavg% of 34.0% after 16 days, and CNF-PCL, which was with a Wtavg% of 7.00% after 16 days. Scanning electron microscopy experiments (SEM) found that CNFAL-PCL has more open pores on its surface and that it fractures faster during degradation experiments which exposes the interior enzyme to water. An electrode made from CNFAL-PCL was fabricated and attached to an AL5-PCL support to form a fast-degrading thermal sensor. The resistance was measured over five cycles where the temperature was varied between 15.0-50.0 °C. The sensor was then degraded fully in buffer at 50 °C over a 48 h period.

Lung cancer screening can significantly reduce mortality from lung cancer. Further evidence about how to optimize lung cancer screening for specific populations, including Aotearoa New Zealand (NZ)'s Indigenous Maori (who experience disproportionately higher rates of lung cancer), is needed to ensure it is equitable. This community-based, pragmatic cluster randomized trial aims to determine whether a lung cancer screening invitation from a patient's primary care physician, compared to from a centralized screening service, will optimize screening uptake for Maori. Participating primary care practices (clinics) in Auckland, Aotearoa NZ will be randomized to either the primary care-led or centralized service for delivery of the screening invitation. Clinic patients who meet the following criteria will be eligible: Maori; aged 55-74 years; enrolled in participating clinics in the region; ever-smokers; and have at least a 2% risk of developing lung cancer within six years (determined using the PLCOM2012 risk prediction model). Eligible patients who respond positively to the invitation will undertake shared decision-making with a nurse about undergoing a low dose CT scan (LDCT) and an assessment for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). The primary outcomes are: 1) the proportion of eligible population who complete a risk assessment and 2) the proportion of people eligible for a CT scan who complete the CT scan. Secondary outcomes include evaluating the contextual factors needed to inform the screening process, such as including assessment for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). We will also use the RE-AIM framework to evaluate specific implementation factors. This study is a world-first, Indigenous-led lung cancer screening trial for Maori participants. The study will provide policy-relevant information on a key policy parameter, invitation method. In addition, the trial includes a nested analysis of COPD in the screened Indigenous population, and it provides baseline (T0 screen round) data using RE-AIM implementation outcomes.

Wireless sensor tags in flexible formats have numerous applications; some are commercially available for specific target applications. However, most of these wireless sensor tags have been used for single-sensing applications. In this study, we designed a printed circuit board (PCB) module (13 mm × 13 mm) for near-field communication-enabled sensor tags with both electrical resistance and capacitance read-out channels that enables dual-channel sensing. As part of the wireless sensor tag, a square antenna pattern was printed directly on a flexible poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) substrate and integrated into the PCB module to demonstrate a dual-channel temperature and ethylene gas sensor. The temperature and ethylene sensors were printed using a positive temperature coefficient ink and a tin oxide (SnO2) nanoparticle ink, respectively. With dual sensing capabilities, this type of sensor tag can be used in smart packaging for the quality monitoring of fresh produce (e.g., bananas) by tracking temperature and ethylene concentration in the storage/transport environment.

Tumor evolution underlies many challenges facing precision oncology, and improving our understanding has the potential to improve clinical care. This study represents a rare opportunity to study tumor heterogeneity and evolution in a patient with an understudied cancer type. A patient with pulmonary atypical carcinoid, a neuroendocrine tumor, metastatic to 90 sites, requested and consented to donate tissues for research. 42 tumor samples collected at rapid autopsy from 14 anatomically distinct sites were analyzed through DNA whole-exome sequencing and RNA sequencing, and five analyzed through linked-read sequencing. Targeted DNA sequencing was completed on two clinical tissue biopsies and one blood plasma sample. Chromosomal alterations and gene variants accumulated over time, and specific chromosomal alterations preceded the single predicted gene driver variant (ARID1A). At the time of autopsy, all sites shared the gain of one copy of Chr 5, loss of one copy of Chr 6 and 21, chromothripsis of one copy of Chr 11, and 39 small variants. Two tumor clones (carrying additional variants) were detected at metastatic sites, and occasionally in different regions of the same organ (e.g., within the pancreas). Circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) sequencing detected shared tumor variants in the blood plasma and captured marked genomic heterogeneity, including all metastatic clones but few private tumor variants. This study describes genomic tumor evolution and dissemination of a pulmonary atypical carcinoid donated by a single generous patient. It highlights the critical role of chromosomal alterations in tumor initiation and explores the potential of ctDNA analysis to represent genomically heterogeneous disease. Significance: DNA sequencing data from tumor samples and blood plasma from a single patient highlighted the critical early role of chromosomal alterations in atypical carcinoid tumor development. Common tumor variants were readily detected in the blood plasma, unlike emerging tumor variants, which has implications for using ctDNA to capture cancer evolution.

Merkel cell carcinoma is a rare, aggressive skin tumor initiated by polyomavirus integration or UV light DNA damage. In New Zealand, there is a propensity toward the UV-driven form (31 of 107, 29% virus positive). Using archival formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissues, we report targeted DNA sequencing covering 246 cancer genes on 71 tumor tissues and 38 nonmalignant tissues from 37 individuals, with 33 of 37 being negative for the virus. Somatic variants of New Zealand virus-negative Merkel cell carcinomas partially overlapped with those reported overseas, including TP53 variants in all tumors and RB1, LRP1B, NOTCH1, and EPHA3/7 variants each found in over half of the cohort. Variants in genes not analyzed or reported in previous studies were also found. Cataloging variants in TP53 and RB1 from published datasets revealed a broad distribution across these genes. Chr 1p gain and Chr 3p loss were identified in around 50% of New Zealand virus-negative Merkel cell carcinomas, and RB1 loss of heterozygosity was found in 90% of cases. Copy number variants accumulate in most metastases. Virus-negative Merkel cell carcinomas have complex combinations of somatic DNA-sequence variants and copy number variants. They likely carry the small genomic changes permissive for metastasis from early tumor development; however, chromosomal alterations may contribute to driving metastatic progression.

Objective: This study aimed to identify intrapersonal, interpersonal, and environmental correlates of leisure-time participation in sports and examine whether they are also associated with screen-time among adolescents. Methods: Adolescents from eight schools in Victoria, Australia were recruited for this study. Participants (n = 400) comprised of an even distribution of boys (51%) and girls (49%) aged 12-16 years. Their engagement in leisure-time activities (including sports and screen-time) and 13 potential correlates were self-reported. Multinomial logistic regression analyses examined correlates of sports and screen-time participation categories, accounting for clustering by school and adjusting for significant sociodemographic characteristics. Results: The majority (76%) participated in leisure-time sports and exceeded screen-time recommendations (<2 h/day) on both weekdays (69%) and weekend days (85%). Greater internal motivation for sports was positively associated with sports participation and inversely associated with screen-time on weekend days, respectively. Fewer barriers, positive family and coach support and more neighborhood sporting opportunities were significantly associated with greater sports participation. Neighborhood social norms were inversely associated with sports participation. Preference for sports was associated with less weekday and weekend screen-time. Friend support for sports was inversely associated with weekday screen-time. Access to sports facilities in the local neighborhood was associated with more weekday and weekend screen-time. Conclusion: Internal motivation for sports was associated with both sports participation and less screen-time. Preference for leisure-time sports and friend support for sports were associated with less screen-time. Future research should continue to explore common correlates of multiple leisure-time behaviors to inform the development of effective intervention strategies.

Background: Perilunate injuries are complex injuries typically arising from high-energy injuries to the wrist. Standard treatment involves open reduction and internal fixation with ligamentous reconstruction; however, outcomes are fraught with complications including pain, stiffness, and arthrosis. Several case reports have demonstrated the role of proximal row carpectomy as a salvage procedure for complex carpal trauma in the setting of significant cartilage injury or bone loss. The authors believe that proximal row carpectomy may be an appropriate acute treatment in certain patient populations, with functional results similar to those obtained with ligamentous reconstruction. Methods: A retrospective review of two cases with perilunate dislocations managed with primary proximal row carpectomy are presented. Results: At greater than 1-year follow-up, both patients had stable radiocarpal alignment. Quick-DASH scores were 22.7 and 27.3. Conclusion: Primary proximal row carpectomy is a treatment option in the acute setting for perilunate injuries in elderly, lower-demand patients. Functional results are similar to those obtained with ligamentous reconstruction, with a shorter recovery period. Level of Evidence: IV.

The present study was designed to gain an in-depth understanding of adolescent girls', 15 to 17 years of age, use of a broad range of digital technologies to support multiple healthy lifestyle purposes. METHODS: This study used a mixed-methods sequential research design (i.e. quantitative and qualitative data in two consecutive phases). A quantitative online survey was conducted to determine the use of digital technologies for healthy lifestyle purposes. Qualitative semi-structured interviews were conducted with a subset of survey respondents to explore factors influencing their technology use and preferences. RESULTS: Descriptive analysis of survey data (online survey, n = 336) demonstrated the popularity of social media and online video sharing platforms, with evidence that the use of digital technologies does not occur in isolation and girls draw on several resources simultaneously to achieve their desired healthy lifestyle outcomes. Thematic analysis of interview data (semi-structured interviews, n = 29) revealed seven interrelated themes around factors influencing girls' use of, and satisfaction with, different digital technologies: accessibility, social connectivity, credibility, relatability, inspiration, safety, and customisability. CONCLUSIONS: The findings reiterate that one size doesn't fit all girls, and often one size might not even fit one girl, and thus highlight the challenge of catering to such varied use cases. Overall, it appears that current digital technology offerings meet the needs and preferences of adolescent girls for healthy lifestyle purposes, however there may be benefit in allowing greater customisation of use, and consumer driven tailoring of content, according to personal preferences and changing circumstances.

BACKGROUND: Distinct typologies of physical activity and screen-based sedentary behaviors are common during adolescence, but it is unknown how these change over time. This longitudinal study examined the stability of activity-related behavioral typologies over the transition out of secondary school. METHODS: Year 11 students (penultimate school year) completed a self-report survey (baseline), which was repeated 2 years later (follow-up) (75% female, mean baseline age: 16.9 ± 0.4 years). Latent transition analysis identified typologies of physical activity and screen time behaviors and explored changes in typology membership between baseline and follow-up among those with complete data and who were not attending secondary school at follow-up (n = 803). RESULTS: Three unique typologies were identified and labelled as: 1) Sedentary gamers (baseline: 17%; follow-up: 15%: high levels of screen behaviors, particularly video gaming); 2) Inactives (baseline: 46%; follow-up: 48%: low physical activities, average levels of screen behaviors); and 3) Actives (baseline: 37%; follow-up: 37%: high physical activities, low screen behaviors). Most participants remained in the same typology (83.2%), 8.5% transitioned to a typology with a more health-enhancing profile and 8.3% transitioned to a typology with a more detrimental behavioral profile. CONCLUSIONS: The high proportion within the 'inactive' typology and the stability of typologies over the transition period suggests that public health interventions are required to improve activity-related behavior typologies before adolescents leave secondary school.

BACKGROUND: Small intestinal Neuroendocrine Neoplasms (SI-NENs) are the most common primary malignancy of the small bowel. The aim of this study is to define the survival of patients with an SI-NEN in Auckland, Aotearoa New Zealand (AoNZ). METHODS: A retrospective study of all patients diagnosed with a jejunal or ileal SI-NEN in the Auckland region between 2000 and 2012 was performed. The New Zealand NETwork! Registry was searched to identify the study cohort. Retrospective data collection was performed to collect stage, survival and follow up data. RESULTS: One hundred and seven patients were included in the study. The mean age of patients was 62.8 years (SD 11.9). The 5 and 10-year disease-specific survival for all patients was 66.1% (95% CI 56.5-75.7%) and 61.8% (95% CI 51.8-71.8%), respectively. Ten-year disease-specific survival was 100% for stage I and II, 74% (95%CI 61.7-84.4%) for stage III and 33.9% (95%CI 16.9-35.6%) for stage IV SI-NEN. Eleven of 40 (27.5%) patients with stage III disease had recurrence and 3 of 7 (42.8%) patients with stage IV disease had recurrence. In patients with stage IV disease, neither primary resection (HR 2.25, 95% CI 0.92-5.5) nor distant resection (HR 1.72, 95% CI 0.63-4.7) were significantly associated with a disease-specific or overall survival benefit. CONCLUSION: This study demonstrates that stage at SI-NEN diagnosis is associated with survival, but resection of the primary or distant metastases in patients with stage IV disease is not. There was no recurrence in patients with stage I or II disease after complete resection.

BACKGROUND: The optimal surgical management of pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors in patients with multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 is controversial. This study sought to compare clinicopathologic characteristics and outcomes of multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1-associated and sporadic pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors from a large multi-national database. METHODS: A multi-institutional, international database of patients with surgically resected pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors was analyzed. The cohort was divided into 2 groups: those with multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 versus those with sporadic disease. Clinicopathologic comparisons were made. Overall and disease-free survival were analyzed. Propensity score matching was used to reduce bias. RESULTS: Of 651 patients included, 45 (6.9%) had multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 and 606 sporadic pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors. Multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1-associated pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors were more common in younger patients and associated with multifocal disease at the time of surgery and higher T-stage. Lymph node involvement and the presence of metastasis were similar. Total pancreatectomy rate was 5-fold higher in the multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 cohort. Median survival did not differ (disease-free survival 126 months multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 vs 198 months sporadic, P > .5). After matching, survival remained similar (overall survival not reached in either cohort, disease-free survival 126 months multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 vs 198 months sporadic, P > .5). Equivalence in overall survival and disease-free survival persisted even when patients who underwent subtotal and total pancreatectomy were excluded. CONCLUSION: Multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1-associated pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors are more common in younger patients and are associated with multifocality and higher T-stage. Survival for patients with multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1-associated pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors is comparable to those with sporadic pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors, even in the absence of radical pancreatectomy. Consideration should be given to parenchymal-sparing surgery to preserve pancreatic function.

PURPOSE: This study aims to identify distinct typologies of joint family activities and the associations with mental health and wellbeing among adolescents across four countries from the World Health Organization European region. METHODS: The 2017/2018 data from adolescents from Armenia (n = 3,977, Mage = 13.5 ± 1.6 years, 53.4% female), Czechia (n = 10,656, Mage = 13.4 ± 1.7, 50.1% female), Russia (n = 4,096, Mage = 13.8 ± 1.7, 52.4% female), and Slovakia (n = 3,282, Mage = 13.4 ± 1.5, 51.0% female) were collected in schools. The respondents self-reported their participation in joint family leisure-time activities, life satisfaction, psychological and somatic complaints, as well as a range of demographic and family situational factors. Stratified by countries, latent class analysis identified typologies of joint family activities, and logistic regression models explored cross-sectional associations with life satisfaction, and psychological and somatic complaints. RESULTS: Three typologies were identified across each of the four countries, distinguished by low, moderate, and high levels of family engagement. Adolescents with higher family engagement generally reported greater life satisfaction and fewer psychological complaints compared to those with lower family engagement. Russian adolescents in the high family engagement typology reported fewer somatic complaints compared to those with low family engagement. In addition, adolescents from Czechia and Russia showing moderate family engagement also reported fewer psychological complaints compared to those in the low family engagement typology. DISCUSSION: Our findings from four countries suggest that adolescents with high family engagement have greater life satisfaction and fewer psychological complaints, pointing toward a need for interventions to support family engagement among adolescents. Further research is needed to fully explore underlying mechanisms.
