RESUMEN

Turbinated bone's mucosa of 46 children aged 6 to 15 years was exposed to radiation of low-energy laser for neurovegetative vasomotor rhinitis. Repeated biomicroscopy stated that abnormal microcirculation recovered after 10 sessions of the radiation even in severe alterations of the microcirculatory bed and long history of the disease. The conclusion is made that low-energy laser radiation is effective in correction of microcirculatory disorders and tissue mechanisms of homeostasis in children with neurovegetative vasomotor rhinitis.

RESUMEN

39 children aged 9-15 years had the diagnosis chronic pharyngitis (CP). The children received combined treatment which comprised ultrasound inhalations of natural ethereal oils. The 5-10 min procedure was performed once a day for 10 days. Relief of CP subjective symptoms was observed after 8-10 procedures, general condition improved. Natural ethereal oils in ultrasound inhalations proved effective in combined treatment of CP in children. The inhalations can be performed in outpatient setting.

RESUMEN

Eucalyptus-based drug eucalymine made in Russia has been tried in children with acute maxillary sinusitis, exacerbation of chronic purulent maxillary sinusitis and peritonsillar abscess. The findings indicate a good antiinflammatory effect of eucalymine which can be used as a treatment of choice in children with ENT diseases.

RESUMEN

Using the RIA method, thyroxine (T4), triiodothyroxine (T3), and cortisol (C) were measured in 10 patients with acute ethmoiditis, aged from 13 days to 6 months. At the peak of the disease, i. e. when infection toxicosis was very manifest, T3 was significantly lower and T4 tended to decrease. During the convalescence period T3 increased distinctly and T4 continued to decline. It can be concluded that the thyroid function was inhibited during the toxic period; however, this inhibition was transient and required no intervention. Nevertheless, in the case of complications, especially sepsis, transient hypothyrosis may develop which requires substitution therapy. Variations in cortisol serum concentrations were insignificant.

RESUMEN

Using biomicroscopy of the bulbar conjunctiva, 65 patients, aged 6 to 15 years, with catarrhal and purulent forms of acute and chronic maxillary sinusitis were examined. At the repair stage the patients were exposed to laser therapy. The results give evidence that laser therapy produced a positive effect on microcirculation and reduced the potential of relapses. Low-energy helium-neon laser affected mostly vessel permeability (decrease of perivascular edema) and blood rheology (red blood cell aggregation). In terms of circulation changes, laser therapy was more beneficial in the case of acute maxillary sinusitis. Circulation lesions, that persisted after laser therapy in some patients with chronic maxillary sinusitis, can be attributed to stable morphological changes in the wall architectonics of microvessels of the nasal mucosa.

RESUMEN

This paper describes microtechniques for studying basic immune parameters which require small amounts of peripheral blood. These techniques include: relative (as a percentage) and absolute (per microliter) measurement of T-lymphocytes using the method of spontaneous rosette formation (SRF) with sheep erythrocytes (SE); B-lymphocytes using SRF with mouse erythrocytes; capability of band neutrophils for SRF with SE; and phagocytic activity of band neutrophils toward the Staphylococcus aureus strain under study in the autoserum reaction and with healthy children serum to detect potential changes in the opsonic activity of the patient's serum. Our measurements have demonstrated that the double density gradient method to measure lymphocytes and neutrophil bands in a small amount of blood makes it possible to determine immune parameters and reveal primary and secondary immune deficiencies. This is also supported by the fact that results derived from small and large amounts of blood of these children are identical. These measurements are relatively simple and not too time-consuming. All this shows that the above methods can be used for assessing the immune status of children with chronic upper airways diseases.

RESUMEN

Examinations of 100 children suffering from catarrhal, serous, purulent or purulent-polypous sinusitis revealed hormonal and metabolic changes of different type. However, plasma concentrations of hypophyseal hormones (ACTH, STH), adrenocortical hormones (11-HOCS) as well as catecholamines (dopamine, DOPA) and glucocorticoids (total 17-HOCS, cortisone, THE, THF) showed no correlations. In the case of serous, purulent and purulent-polypous sinusitis there was a slight correlation for the coefficients of norepinephrine + cortisol, epinephrine + cortisol, epinephrine + tetrahydrodeoxycortisol.

RESUMEN

Thirty-eight patients with vasomotor rhinitis, aged 6 to 15 years, were examined by means of biomicroscopy of eyeball conjunctiva vessels. As a result, the following microcirculatory disorders were detected: vessel enlargement, diameter nonuniformity, pathological convolution and red blood cell aggregation. Patients with allergic lesions showed most significant structural changes. The prevalence of functional changes over structural ones in the eyeball conjunctiva of children with neurogenic vasomotor rhinitis can be used as a differential diagnostic indicator.
