RESUMEN

Objective: To analyze the related factors of futile recanalization (FR) after emergency endovascular treatment of large artery occlusion in anterior circulation. Methods: Three studies on endovascular treatment of acute anterior circulation large vessels occlusion stroke were selected, and their data were merged for retrospective analysis. Patients were divided into the FR group and favorable prognosis group according to the functional prognosis. Risk factor analysis was conducted using multivariate logistic regression. Results: A total of 1 581 patients were finally included, with 858 (48.9%) patients in favorable prognosis group and 926 (51.91%) patients in FR group. Among them, there were 939 males and 642 females, with a mean age of (65±12) years. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) score (OR=1.089,95%CI:1.066-1.113), puncture to recanalization time (OR=0.756, 95%CI:0.586-0.971), age (OR=1.04,95%CI:1.029-1.051), serum glucose (OR=1.101,95%CI:1.062-1.143), systolic blood pressure (OR=1.005,95%CI:1.001-1.010), passes≥3(OR=1.941,95%CI:1.294-2.941)Alberta stroke program early CT (ASPECT) score (OR=0.919,95%CI:0.847-0.996), occlusion site (M1 segment of middle cerebral artery, OR=0.744,95%CI:0.565-0.980) and collateral circulation [(2 points, OR=0.757, 95%CI:0.581-0.985); (3-4 points, adjusted OR=0.640, 95%CI: 0.472-0.866)] were independent factors of FR. Conclusion: The incidence of FR in patients with large artery occlusion in anterior circulation who achieve satisfied reperfusion after endovascular treatment is high. Higher NIHSS score, longer puncture to recanalization time, older age, higher serum glucose and systolic blood pressure are risk factors, while lower ASPECTS, occlusion in cerebral middle M1 segment, better collateral circulation are protective factors.

RESUMEN

The high hardness or yield strength of an alloy is known to benefit from the presence of small-scale precipitation, whose hardening effect is extensively applied in various engineering materials. Stability of the precipitates is of critical importance in maintaining the high performance of a material under mechanical loading. The long period stacking ordered (LPSO) structures play an important role in tuning the mechanical properties of an Mg-alloy. Here, we report deformation twinning induces decomposition of lamellar LPSO structures and their re-precipitation in an Mg-Zn-Y alloy. Using atomic resolution scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM), we directly illustrate that the misfit dislocations at the interface between the lamellar LPSO structure and the deformation twin is corresponding to the decomposition and re-precipitation of LPSO structure, owing to dislocation effects on redistribution of Zn/Y atoms. This finding demonstrates that deformation twinning could destabilize complex precipitates. An occurrence of decomposition and re-precipitation, leading to a variant spatial distribution of the precipitates under plastic loading, may significantly affect the precipitation strengthening.

RESUMEN

Lpin1 deficiency prevents normal adipose tissue development and remarkably reduces adipose tissue mass, while overexpression of the Lpin1 gene in either skeletal muscle or adipose tissue promotes adiposity in mice. However, little is known about the porcine Lpin1 gene. In the present study, a 5,559-bp cDNA sequence of the porcine Lpin1 gene was obtained by RT-PCR and 3'RACE. The sequence consisted of a 111-bp 5'UTR, a 2,685-bp open reading frame encoding a protein of 894 amino acids and a 2,763-bp 3'UTR. Semi-quantitative RT-PCR analysis revealed that Lpin1 had a high level of expression in the liver, spleen, skeletal muscle and fat, a low level of expression in the heart, lung and kidney. The porcine Lpin1 gene was assigned to 3q21-27 by using the somatic cell hybrid panel (SCHP) and the radiation hybrid (IMpRH) panel. One C93T single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) was identified and genotyped using the TaqI PCR-RFLP method. Association analysis between the genotypes and fat deposition traits suggested that different genotypes of the Lpin1 gene were associated with percentage of leaf fat and intramuscular fat.

RESUMEN

CMYA4 (cardiomyopathy-associated 4) gene plays an important role in thick filament assembly. In this study, we obtained the mRNA sequence including the full coding sequence and the partial 5' untranslated region of the porcine CMYA4 gene by using the rapid amplification of cDNA ends and reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and the sequence was deposited in the GenBank nucleotide database (DQ_286571). The human (NM_173167) and mouse (NM_178680) homologues have a 91% and 87% identity with the porcine CMYA4 gene, respectively. The sequence contains an open reading frame encoding 930 amino acid residues, and the amino terminus of the predicted CMYA4 protein contains three tandem repeats belonging to the tetratricopeptide repeat family. Semi-quantitative RT-PCR results showed that the porcine CMYA4 gene is expressed exclusively in striated muscle tissue. An A558G single nucleotide polymorphism in the CMYA4 intron 15 detected as an MspI PCR-restriction fragment length polymorphism showed allele frequency differences among 225 unrelated pigs from six breeds. Association of the genotypes with growth and carcass traits showed that different genotypes of the CMYA4 gene were significantly associated with the backfat thickness of the area between sixth and seventh ribs (p < 0.05) and backfat thickness at the shoulder (p < 0.05).

RESUMEN

The Helix Research Institute (HRI) in Japan is releasing 4356 HUman Novel Transcripts and related information in the newly established HUNT database. The institute is a joint research project principally funded by the Japanese Ministry of International Trade and Industry, and the clones were sequenced in the governmental New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) Human cDNA Sequencing Project. The HUNT database contains an extensive amount of annotation from advanced analysis and represents an essential bioinformatics contribution towards understanding of the gene function. The HRI human cDNA clones were obtained from full-length enriched cDNA libraries constructed with the oligo-capping method and have resulted in novel full-length cDNA sequences. A large fraction has little similarity to any proteins of known function and to obtain clues about possible function we have developed original analysis procedures. Any putative function deduced here can be validated or refuted by complementary analysis results. The user can also extract information from specific categories like PROSITE patterns, PFAM domains, PSORT localization, transmembrane helices and clones with GENIUS structure assignments. The HUNT database can be accessed at http://www.hri.co.jp/HUNT.

RESUMEN

Microsatellite variation was analyzed in five Chinese indigenous goat breeds, which include four Cashmere breeds (Tibetan, Neimonggol, Liaoning, Taihang) and one Hubei local breed (Matou) used for meat production. Five ovine and one bovine microsatellites, selected from eight ovine microsatellites and five bovine microsatellites were suitable for use in this study. With these six microsatellites, allele frequencies, heterozygosity, polymorphism information content (PIC) and effective allele number were calculated. A neighbor-joining tree was constructed using Nei's standard genetic distance (1978). In the tree, Neimonggol and Liaoning were grouped together, then with Taihang; while Tibetan and Matou individually had their own branch. The genetic relationship of five breeds corresponds to their history and geographic origins.

RESUMEN

Haplotype of porcine single sperm was analyzed by PCR method through using primer extension preamplification and heminesting primer design strategy. The PCR products were run on 8% polyacrylamide gel, and visualized by silver staining method. The results showed that the haplotypes of individual sperm can be unequivocally demonstrated by these methods. The application of single sperm typing provides a unique tool for the construction of high resolution genetic map and the study of genetic phenomena requiring large sample size.

RESUMEN

Based on cross-cultural studies of euthanasia and abortion, we hypothesized that attitudes toward euthanasia and abortion were socioculturally determined. Using a 2 x 2 factorial design, we examined the effects of culture (America and China) and type of death (infanticide and geronticide). We found that students from the American culture were less likely to favor infanticide than those from the Chinese culture, and that students from the People's Republic of China believed infanticide to be more common and more prevalent than geronticide in Chinese society. Finally, we found that education, judgment of population density, and traditional family values were related to attitudes toward euthanasia, abortion, and female infanticide in the Chinese, but not in the American, culture.

RESUMEN

In order to study the morphological characteristics and terminating patterns of the neurons of the trigeminal mesencephalic nucleus (Vme), 55 masseteric neurons in Vme in the rat were stained by intracellular injection of horseradish peroxidase (HRP). Labeled cells were distributed throughout the nucleus. These neurons were divided into three types: uni- or pseudounipolar (type A, n = 43), bipolar (type B, n = 5), and multipolar cells (type C, n = 7). Each type was further divided into two subtypes according to the largest diameter of the perikarya (type a greater than or equal to 30 microns, type b less than 30 microns). The central processes of type Aa neurons projected to the following three groups of target nuclei: 1) nuclei functioning as interneurons, including supratrigeminal nucleus (Vsup), intertrigeminal nucleus (Vint), juxta-trigeminal region (Vjux), and parvicellular nucleus of the pontomedullary reticular formation (PcRF); 2) motor nuclei, including the trigeminal motor nucleus (Vmo), accessory facial nucleus (NVIIacs), accessory abducens nucleus (NVIacs), and a small number of labeled axons in the oculomotor nucleus and trochlear nucleus; 3) sensory nuclei, including the dorsomedial part of the principal trigeminal sensory nucleus (Vpdm) and the dorsomedial part of subnucleus oralis of the trigeminal spinal nucleus (Vodm). Labeled processes were dense in the Vsup, Vmo, and Vpdm. The proprioceptive pathway of the fifth nerve is discussed. Direct projections from type Aa neurons of Vme to the Vpdm and dorsolateral part of the Vsup contribute to conduction of the proprioceptive information from spindles of masticatory muscle to the contralateral thalamus in the rat. Different axon morphology, distribution, terminal branch density, and terminating patterns of type Aa neurons were noted in different functional groups of the projecting nuclei, especially in the Vsup, Vmo, and Vpdm. The highest terminal branching density, the most extensive distribution, and two different types of branching patterns (claw-like and comb-like) were observed in Vsup. Selective distribution and single-beaded or "Y"-shaped terminal branches were observed in Vmo. In the Vppdm the axonal branches were sparser than in the Vsup or Vmo, and had an arrangement like the branches of a weeping willow tree. These characteristics of anatomical organization might be related to the function of each projecting nucleus.
