RESUMEN

OBJECTIVES: The number of surgeries performed in the United States has increased over the past two decades, with a shift to the ambulatory setting. Perioperative complications and mortality pose significant health care burdens. Inadequate preoperative assessment and documentation contribute to communication failure and poor patient outcomes. The aim of this quality improvement project was to design and implement a preoperative evaluation documentation template that not only improved communication during the perioperative pathway but also enhanced the overall user experience. METHODS: We implemented a revamped evidence-based documentation template in the electronic medical records of a health care organization across three internal medicine clinics on the downtown campus and seven satellite family medicine clinics. A pre- and postintervention design was used to assess the template utilization rate and clinician satisfaction. RESULTS: The preoperative template utilization rate increased from 51.2% at baseline to 66.5% after the revamped template "went live" (p < 0.001). Clinician satisfaction with the preoperative documentation template also significantly increased (30.6 vs. 80.0%, p < 0.001). CONCLUSION: Adopting a user-friendly, evidence-based documentation template can enhance the standardization of preoperative evaluation documentation and reduce the documentation burden.

RESUMEN

Near-infrared phosphor-converted light-emitting diodes (pc-LEDs) are attractive in application like in vivo imaging and nondestructive examination in food industry. Plenty of aluminium oxides with high melting point and rigidity have been researched towards high photoluminescence quantum yield and thermal stability. In this work, a series of Cr3+ activated La, Mg modified SrAl12O19 phosphors, i.e. Sr0.7La0.3Mg0.3Al11.7O19, are prepared via a solid-state reaction route. The site splitting and structural evolution towards relative thermodynamic stability in the modified host are discussed, Cr3+ ions with multisite occupation in the host show intense zero-phonon-line (ZPL) emission and tunable broadband emission. The optimized phosphor exhibits excellent luminescence thermal stability, with 98% residual integrity intensity of that at room temperature at 473 K. The results provide a reference for developing novel NIR-emitting magnetoplumbite phosphor with high efficiency and excellent thermal quenching resistance.

RESUMEN

To investigate the neuroprotective of ligustilide (LIG) against glutamate-induced apoptosis of PC12 cells, cell viability were examined by MTT assay. Flow cytometry was applied to assay cell apoptosis rate. Intracellular calcium concentration was measured by using fluorescent dye Fluo-3/AM. Cytochrome C (Cyt C), Caspase-3, Bax and Bcl-2 protein expression were assayed by western blot. The results showed that glutamate is cytotoxic with an inhibitory concentration 50 (ID50) of 15 mmol · L(-1). Pretreatment with LIG (1, 5, 15 µmol · L(-1)) significantly improved cell viability. The apoptosis rate in glutamate-induced PC12 cells was 13.39%, and decreased in the presence of LIG (1, 5, 15 µmol · L(-1)) by 9.06%, 6.48%, 3.82%, separately. Extracellular accumulation of Ca2+ induced by glutamate were significantly reduced by LIG. The results of western blot manifested that pretreatment LIG could decrease the release of Cyt C from mitochondria, down-regulate Caspase-3 protein expression and up-regulate Bcl-2/Bax ratio, thereby protects PC12 cells from apoptosis. In summary, LIG had protective effect on glutamate-induced apoptosis in PC12 cells through attenuating the increase in intracellular Ca2+ concentration, and inhibiting the release of Cyt C from mitochondria to cytoplasm.
