RESUMEN

The objective is to evaluate the effect of different surface treatments and storage on the shear strength of ultratranslucent zirconia. 36 blocks of ultra-translucent zirconia were fabricated (7x7x2mm) and sintered. Then, divided into 12 groups according to the "surface treatment" (C -Primer; Al -Sandblasting with Al2O3 + Primer; Si -Silicate + Primer; Gl -Glaze + HF + Primer; Z -Zirlink; Zp -Zirlink + Primer) and "storage" factors (ST-with 150 days/37º and without). After surface treatment, five cylinders (Ø=2mm; h=2.0mm) of resin cement (n=15) were constructed in each ceramic block; at the end, the shear strength test was performed (1mm/min, 50Kgf), and analysis of surface failures. 60 additional samples (2x2x2mm) were made for extras analysis (surface roughness, MEV, and EDS). Bond strength and surface roughness data were statistically evaluated by ANOVA (2 factors/1 factor), Tukey test (5%), and Weibull analysis, respectively. ANOVA (2-way) revealed that all factors were statistically significant for bond strength. The silicatization groups (SiST: 30.47AMPa; Si: 29.21AMPa) showed the highest bond strength values, regardless of storage (Tukey's test). While the groups treated with Zirlink (ZST: 2.76FMPa; Z: 5.27EFMPa) showed the lowest values, just similar to the GlST group (5.14EFMPa). The Weibull modulus (m) showed a statistical difference between groups (p=0.000). ANOVA (1 factor) revealed that the "surface treatment" factor (p=0.0000) was statistically significant for surface roughness. Therefore, the application of Zirlink and Glaze on pre-sintered zirconia did not promote efficient adhesion of the ultratranslucent zirconia to the resin cement, even when associated with a primer containing MDP.

Resumo O objetivo é avaliar o efeito de diferentes tratamentos superficiais e do envelhecimento na resistência ao cisalhamento da zircônia ultratranslúcida. Foram confeccionados 36 blocos de zircônia ultratranslúcida (7x7x2mm) e sinterizados. Em seguida, divididos em 12 grupos de acordo com o "tratamento de superfície" (C-Primer; Al-Jateamento com Al2O3+Primer; Si-Silicato+Primer; Gl -Glaze+HF+Primer; Z-Zirlink; Zp-Zirlink+Primer) e fatores de "armazenamento" (ST-com, 150 dias/37º e sem). Após o tratamento superficial, foram construídos cinco cilindros (Ø=2mm; h=2,0mm) de cimento resinoso (n=15) em cada bloco cerâmico; ao final foi realizado o ensaio de resistência ao cisalhamento (1mm/min, 50Kgf) e análise de falhas superficiais. Foram confeccionadas 60 amostras adicionais (2x2x2mm) para análises extras (rugosidade superficial, MEV e EDS). Os dados de resistência de união e rugosidade superficial foram avaliados estatisticamente por ANOVA (2 fatores/1fator), teste de Tukey (5%) e análise de Weibull, respectivamente. ANOVA (2 fatores) revelou que todos os fatores foram estatisticamente significativos para a resistência de união. Os grupos de silicatização (SiST: 30,47AMPa; Si: 29,21AMPa) apresentaram os maiores valores de resistência de união, independente do armazenamento (Tukey). Enquanto os grupos tratados com Zirlink (ZST: 2,76FMPa; Z: 5,27EFMPa) apresentaram os valores mais baixos, apenas semelhantes ao grupo GlST (5,14EFMPa). O módulo de Weibull (m) apresentou diferença estatística entre os grupos (p=0,000). A ANOVA (1 fator) revelou que o fator "tratamento superficial" (p=0,0000) foi estatisticamente significativo para rugosidade superficial. Portanto, a aplicação de Zirlink e do Glaze na zircônia pré-sinterizada não promoveu adesão eficiente da zircônia ultratranslúcida ao cimento resinoso, mesmo quando associada a primer contendo MDP.

RESUMEN

This study evaluated the stress distribution in five different class II cavities of premolar models restored with conventional or bulk-fill flowable composite by means of finite element analysis (FEA) under shrinkage and occlusal loading. An upper validated premolar model was imported in the software, and five class II cavities with different occlusal extensions and dimensions were prepared: horizontal cavity on the mesial surface (horizontal slot), mesio-occlusal cavity, mesial cavity (vertical slot), tunnel type cavity and direct access cavity. The models were restored with conventional or bulk-fill flowable resin composite. The tested materials were considered as homogeneous, linear, and isotropic. The Maximum Principal Stress criteria was chosen to evaluate the tensile stress results. The lowest shrinkage stress value was observed in the direct access cavity restored with bulk-fill flowable resin composite (36.12 MPa). The same cavity, restored with conventional composite showed a score of 36.14 MPa. The horizontal slot cavity with bulk-fill flowable showed a score of 46.71 MPa. The mesio-occlusal cavity with bulk-fill flowable had a score of 53.10 MPa, while with conventional composite this was 55.35 MPa. Higher shrinkage stress was found in the vertical slot cavity with conventional resin 56.14 MPa, followed by the same cavity with bulk-fill flowable 56.08 MPa. Results indicated that the use of bulk-fill flowable composite resin more significantly decreased the polymerization shrinkage stress magnitude. The larger the cavity and the volume of material necessary to restore the tooth, the greater the residual stress on enamel and dentin tissue.

The aim of this study was to investigate the three-dimensional wear, volumetric loss and surface roughness after chewing simulation of two glass ceramics. Lithium disilicate (LD, Emax CAD, Ivoclar) and Zirconia reinforced lithium silicate (ZLS, Vita Suprinity, Vita Zhanfabrick) discs (n=20/g) were scanned to obtain stereolithography (STL) files for each sample. All discs were submitted to chewing simulation with sliding configuration (30 N, 300,000 cycles, 6 mm and 1.7 Hz) with steatite as antagonist. The samples were then scanned again and the volume loss and the deepest defect depth was measured using the superimposed file from the baseline using three-dimensional digital parametric inspection software (GOM Inspect, Braunschweig, Germany). Surface roughness (Ra and Rz) was analyzed with a contact profilometer. Data were analyzed by one-way ANOVA and Tukey test (α=0.5%). ANOVA showed significant differences among the groups. Considering the ceramic volume loss, wear depth defect length and Rz roughness, LD (-22.09±5.57%; 0.80±0.06 µm; 3.08±1.02 µm) showed higher mean values than ZLS (-15.67±4.51%; 0.56±0.09 µm; 1.51±0.90 µm). Ra mean values were similar for both materials (p=0.064). All discs exhibited slight surface scratches along with the sliding direction with pitted wear patterns, while large cracks were observed on wear traces. These same areas can be identified in blue, overlapping the STL files before and after chewing simulation in inspection software. The linear reduction generated by sliding contact shows a graph with a similar wear pattern shape. ZLS was more resistant to wear than LD, with less volume loss and shallower surface defects.

Resumo O objetivo deste estudo foi investigar o desgaste tridimensional, perda volumétrica e rugosidade após a simulação de mastigação de dois materiais vitro-cerâmicos. Discos de dissilicato de lítio (LD, Emax CAD, Ivoclar) e silicato de lítio reforçado com zircônia (ZLS, Vita Suprinity, Vita Zhanfabrick) (n=20/g) foram confeccionados e digitalizados para obtenção de arquivos de estereolitografia (STL) de cada amostra. Todos os discos foram submetidos à simulação de mastigação com configuração deslizante (30 N, 300.000 ciclos, 6 mm e 1,7 Hz) com esteatita como antagonista. As amostras foram escaneadas novamente e a perda de volume e o defeito mais profundo foram medidos usando o arquivo sobreposto da linha de base através de um software de inspeção paramétrica digital e tridimensional (GOM Inspect, Braunschweig, Alemanha). A rugosidade superficial (Ra e Rz) foi avaliada através de rugosímetro de contato. Os resultados foram analisados por ANOVA 1-fator e teste Tukey (α=0,5%). ANOVA mostrou diferenças significantes entre os grupos. Considerando a perda de volume cerâmico, comprimento do defeito e rugosidade Rz, LD (-22,09±5,57%; 0,80±0,06 µm; 3,08±1.02 µm) apresentou valores médios superiores a ZLS (-15,67±4,51%; 0,56±0,09 µm; 1.51±0.90 µm). Todos os discos exibiram pequenos arranhões na superfície conforme a direção de deslizamento com padrões de desgaste, enquanto grandes ranhuras foram observadas nos traços de desgaste. Essas mesmas áreas podem ser identificadas em azul, sobrepondo os arquivos STL antes e depois da simulação de mastigação no software de inspeção. A redução linear gerada pelo contato deslizante mostra um gráfico com uma forma de padrão de desgaste semelhante. ZLS foi mais resistente ao desgaste do que LD, com menor perda de volume e menores defeitos superficiais.

RESUMEN

Este artigo avaliou a literatura pertinente às cirurgias guiadas em comparação com a técnica convencional para a instalação de implantes dentários. Para tanto, informações acerca da confecção de guias cirúrgicos, desvios entre o posicionamento do(s) implante(s) final e planejado, evolução das técnicas e sucesso da cirurgia guiada foram apresentados. Através dos fatos observados, pôde-se concluir que a cirurgia guiada tende a apresentar resultados mais promissores que a técnica convencional, mas que a técnica guiada não está isenta de erros. Logo, o planejamento cirúrgico, a obtenção de um exame tomográfico, a confecção e a instalação do guia cirúrgico, quando corretos, são fatores primordiais na obtenção do sucesso do procedimento.


This article evaluated the literature pertinent to guided surgeries in comparison with the conventional technique for the installation of dental implants. For that, information about the surgical guides preparation, implant(s) position deviations of final and planned, evolution of techniques and success of guided surgery were presented. Through the observed facts, it can be concluded that guided surgery tends to present more promising results than the conventional technique. But, that this guided technique is not free of errors. Therefore, surgical planning, obtaining a tomographic examination, manufacturing and installing the surgical guide, when correct, are important factors in achieving the success of the procedure.

BACKGROUND: The increase of requests for implant-supported prosthesis (ISP) with zirconia as infrastructure has attracted a lot of attention due to its esthetics, biocompatibility, and survival rate similar to metallic infrastructure. The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of two different framework materials on stress distribution over a bone tissue-simulating material. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Two ISP were modeled and divided into two infrastructure materials: titanium (Ti) and zirconia. Then, these bars were attached to a modeled jaw with polyurethane properties to simulate bone tissue. An axial load of 200 N was applied on a standardized area for both systems. Maximum principal stress (MPS) on solids and microstrain (MS) generated through the jaw were analyzed by finite element analysis. RESULTS: According to MS, both models showed strains on peri-implant region of the penultimate (same side of the load application) and central implants. For MPS, more stress concentration was slightly higher in the left posterior region for Ti's bar. In prosthetic fixation screws, the MPS prevailed strongly in Ti protocol, while for zirconia's bar, the cervical of the penultimate implant was the one that highlighted larger areas of possible damages. CONCLUSIONS: The stress generated in all constituents of the system was not significantly influenced by the framework's material. This allows suggesting that in cases without components, the use of a framework in zirconia has biomechanical behavior similar to that of a Ti bar.
