RESUMEN

The authors present studies on lateral displacements and ranges of horizontal and vertical movements of the mandible. Theyy used a new device--deviatiometer (fig. 1--4)--for measuring the position and the movements of the mandible. They stated no significant differences in the frequency of temporomandibular joint noises with regard to sex, age, lateral displacement of the mandible and ranges of movements. Consequently, temporomandibular joint noises should not be overvalued in the edentulous patient.

RESUMEN

The internal structure and the hardness of three silver-palladium alloys (Sipal 306, Spall WT 52, Bego Gold-EWL G) were investigated in the as-cast condition, after homogenization and after salt-bath hardening. From the results obtained it is concluded that the optimal processing conditions for Sipal 306 and Spall WT 52 are: homogenization at 850 degrees C for more than 2 hours, and hardening at 430--450 degrees C for 15 minutes. The hardness values thus obtained meet the requirements of the type IV indication of the FDI specification no. 7; however, the inhomogenous structure causes a lower resistance to tarnish.

RESUMEN

The age at which carious permanent teeth are equally distributed between upper and lower jaw depends upon the caries resistance of the individual. This age was called the "characteristic age" of the population. It was found that water fluoridation in Wroclaw (1967) postponed this characteristic age by two years. In females, this age is earlier than in males. This method is useful in the appredication of the caries susceptibility of a population. The effect of water fluoridation upon this susceptibility was shown. Caries resistance was found to be higher in males.
