RESUMEN

Chlamydia trachomatis DNA was detected by PCR in 12 patients with continuously recurrent catarrhal pharyngolaryngitis. These included 9 males and 3 females whose age ranged 16 to 72 years. All the patients were found to have degrees II-III alpha- and g-INF deficiencies. The interferon inducer amixine in combination with sumamed was used in the treatment of patients with chlamydial laryngitis. After treatment, there was a significant improvement in two thirds of patients. The pain syndrome was relieved, hoarseness diminished, and the laryngoscopic and microlaryngostroboscopic picture and interferon status became normal. Control studies showed no Ch. trachomatis in this group of patients. Despite positive changes in the course of the disease, the control study again detected Ch. trachomatis in 4 patients, which required repeated treatment courses.

RESUMEN

Thirty six patients with oropharyngeal leptotrichosis were examined and treated. Antistaphylococcal bacteriophage solution was used for their treatment. Tonsillar lacunae were washed with bacteriophage 2-3 times a week, the course of treatment included 6-8 washings. Thirty four patients showed clinical recovery shown as full clearance of the affected sites and elimination of subjective manifestations of leptotrichosis.

RESUMEN

The paper analyzes the outcomes of treatment of 326 patients with acute and chronic exudative sinusitis by using low-frequency vibratory massage--vibrotherapy that has antiinflammatory, antiedematous, and antiallergic effects, promotes normalization of body defenses and may be used as monotherapy. The therapy is shown to have a marked therapeutical effect and advantages over conventional treatments. The method is physiological, reduces the number of punctures in maxillary sinusitis, leaves the skin and mucosa intact, and decreases the use of drugs.

RESUMEN

The authors present clinicoroentgenological and immunological evaluation of low-frequency mechanical intermittent biovibromassage used in the treatment of acute maxillary sinusitis alone and in its combination with ethmoiditis. The massage provides simple-in-use and effective impact on inflammation in the cells of the ethmoidal labyrinth. It can be practiced both in hospital and outpatiently.

RESUMEN

Immunocorrection in otorhinolaryngology is primarily local. Stimulating immunomodulators are most widely employed. Introduction of immunocorrection in combined treatment of secondary immunodeficiency in ENT diseases entails conduction of a wide range of immunological tests. Immunocorrectors should be selected strictly on the individual basis.

RESUMEN

The paper summarizes follow-ups of 2500 patients with inflammatory diseases of the uterine appendages, provides evidence for the benefits of laparoscopic diagnosis and treatment of all types of this condition, which makes it possible to verify the diagnosis and perform less traumatic organ-sparing operations. To use combined antiinflammatory antibiotic therapy in view of the etiology of inflammation, as well as immunomodulators is the requisite condition for treating acute types of a disease. The new approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of inflammatory diseases of the uterine appendages substantially improved therapeutical outcomes and maintained female reproductive function.

RESUMEN

Magneto-laser therapy (80 Hz, 0.01 mW/cm2, 12 min) consisting of 10 sessions was performed in patients with maxillary sinusitis (MS). Therapeutic action on the sinus mucosa was conducted through the sinus anterior wall. The magneto-optic attachment coupled with semiconductor laser in the Uzor apparatus was tightly pressed to the facial skin in the sinus projection area. Positive clinical responses associated with stimulation of neutrophil phagocytic activity and with a rise in the portion of rosette-forming neutrophils and Ig A were achieved in 90% of the patients with catarrhal MS and in 83% of those with purulent MS. A 1.5-2-year follow-up registered the effect persistence in 80% and 69% of them, respectively. Compared to standard methods (microwave therapy), magneto-laser treatment was superior both in short-term and long-term effects obtained in purulent MS. The method can be applied in mono- and polytherapy.

RESUMEN

The complement system was studied in 42 patients with various unspecific pulmonary diseases. It was established that the rate of complement system activation depends on the acuteness of the course of the pyo-inflammatory process in the lungs. The results of study of the kinetics of complement system activation make it possible to prognosticate the course and outcome of inflammatory pulmonary diseases and identify a risk group of patients with diminished reserve possibilities of the immune system and prescribe immunocorrective therapy opportunely.

RESUMEN

Inbred mice have proved to be a promising model for the evaluation of antigen-specific and antigen-nonspecific immunomodulating activity of purified staphylococcal toxoid in humans. This toxoid induces the formation of pronounced humoral response to homologous and heterologous infections in humans and mice. In animal experiments purified staphylococcal toxoid has shown its capacity for the correction of secondary immune deficiency of different origin; when introduced into humans having secondary immunodeficiency associated with bacterial infections of different etiology, the preparation reproduces this effect.

RESUMEN

Nonspecific and selected determinants of humoral immunity have been evaluated in 122 patients who clinically presented with "chronic salpingo-oophoritis". An objective confirmatory study is laparoscopy. The patients with clinical presentations of chronic salpingo-oophoritis displayed depressed phagocytic activity of neutrophils and function of complement in its both pathways. Alternatively, humoral immune parameters (serum levels of immunoglobulins A, M, G and circulating immune complexes) were normal. Functional evaluation of the classical and alternative complement activation pathways may provide a noninvasive objective test for differential diagnosis of chronic salpingo-oophoritis.

RESUMEN

Combined changes in the mucous membrane of the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum were studied in 110 patients with acute and chronic diseases of the lungs on the basis of the endoscopic method, taking into account the immunological mechanisms and analysis of data of 1,000 autopsy records. Combined changes in the lungs and organs of the upper digestive tract were found in 90.9% of patients, erosive-ulcerative lesions of the mucous membrane in 39.3%, and gastrointestinal hemorrhages in 1.7% of patients. Ulcers of the cardiac part of the stomach were encountered most frequently in this category of patients, but hemorrhage occurred mostly as a complication of ulcers of the body of the stomach.

RESUMEN

The concentration of lysozyme and immunoglobulins was measured in serum and middle ear secretion of young children suffering from acute suppurative otitis. It was found that the local synthesis of lysozyme increased. The high concentration of lysozyme and low concentration of immunoglobulins of all classes in the middle ear secretion of children aged up to three years can be associated with an immature local humoral immune response.
