BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Transradial access for neurointerventional procedures has been proved a safer and more comfortable alternative to femoral artery access. We present our experience with transradial (distal radial/anatomic snuffbox and radial artery) access for treatment of intracranial aneurysms using all 3 FDA-approved flow diverters. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This was a high-volume, dual-center, retrospective analysis of each institution's data base between June 2018 and June 2020 and a collection of all patients treated with flow diversion via transradial access. Patient demographic information and procedural and radiographic data were obtained. RESULTS: Seventy-four patients were identified (64 female patients) with a mean age of 57.5 years with a total of 86 aneurysms. Most aneurysms were located in the anterior circulation (93%) and within the intracranial ICA (67.4%). The mean aneurysm size was 5.5 mm. Flow diverters placed included the Pipeline Embolization Device (Flex) (PED, n = 65), the Surpass Streamline Flow Diverter (n = 8), and the Flow-Redirection Endoluminal Device (FRED, n = 1). Transradial access was successful in all cases, but femoral crossover was required in 3 cases (4.1%) due to tortuous anatomy and inadequate support of the catheters in 2 cases and an inability to navigate to the target vessel in a patient with an aberrant right subclavian artery. All 71 other interventions were successfully performed via the transradial approach (95.9%). No access site complications were encountered. Asymptomatic radial artery occlusion was encountered in 1 case (3.7%). CONCLUSIONS: Flow diverters can be successfully placed via the transradial approach with high technical success, low access site complications, and a low femoral crossover rate.

OBJECTIVE: To determine anti-HBs antibody levels in multi-transfused children with beta-thalassemia major who had received primary hepatitis B vaccination ≥5 years ago, and to document their antibody response to a booster dose of hepatitis B vaccine. METHODS: We included 85 children each of beta-thalassemia major and age-matched healthy controls, who had completed primary hepatitis B vaccination ≥5 years ago. Participants were assessed for anti-HBs titres, and those with beta-thalassemia major who were seronegative (titres<10 mIU/mL) were administered a single booster dose of hepatitis B vaccine. CD4 counts, serum levels of IL-2 and IFN-g, and anti-HBs titres were evaluated at baseline and following booster dose of vaccine. RESULTS: Seroprotection rates for hepatitis B after an average (SD) duration of 10.8 (3.8) years of completion of primary immunization were significantly higher among children with beta thalassemia major compared to healthy controls (72.9% vs. 52.9%, P=0.007). All the 23 seronegative children with beta-thalassemia major achieved seroprotection after a single booster dose of hepatitis B vaccine. CONCLUSIONS: A single booster dose of hepatitis B vaccine after 5 years of primary immunization is adequate to provide seroprotection to multi-transfused children with beta-thalassemia major.

NaSn2As2 is mechanically exfoliable layered van der Waals (vdW) Zintl phase that is getting interesting due to its low thermal conductivity and recently observed superconductivity. Here, we have investigated the temperature dependent local structure of NaSn2As2 by a combined analysis of As K-edge and Sn K-edge extended x-ray absorption fine structure measurements. The system is intrinsically disordered with the interatomic distances largely consistent to those estimated by average structure measurements. The stretching force constants of different bond distances have been determined using temperature dependent mean square relative displacements. The Sn-As distance is the strongest bond in this system, having covalent nature, unlike the weaker interlayer distances which are characterized by vdW type bonding. Among them, As-Na distance is slightly weaker than Sn-Sn(i) below ∼200 K and tends to get stronger above this temperature. The anomalous behavior of As-Na bond suggests that the mechanical exfoliation in this system is likely to be temperature dependent. The anomaly in the interlayer atomic correlations may be due to a charge density wave-like instability around this temperature, indicated by earlier experiments. The local structure and disorder are discussed in relation to the physical properties of NaSn2As2.

AIMS: The aims of this study were to evaluate the efficacy of preoperative denosumab in achieving prospectively decided intention of therapy in operable giant cell tumour of bone (GCTB) patients, and to document local recurrence-free survival (LRFS). PATIENTS AND METHODS: A total of 44 patients received preoperative denosumab: 22 to facilitate curettage, 16 to facilitate resection, and six with intent of converting resection to curettage. There were 26 male and 18 female patients. The mean age was 27 years (13 to 47). RESULTS: The mean number of denosumab treatments was five (2 to 7) per patient. In 42 of 44 patients (95%), denosumab helped to achieve prospectively decided intention. A total of 41 patients were available for follow-up at a mean follow-up of 34 months (24 to 48). There were 12 local recurrences (29%), in 11 patients (11/25, 44%) who had curettage and in one patient (1/16, 6%) who had resection. The mean time to local recurrence was 16 months (8 to 25). The LRFS was 76% at two years: 94% for cases with resection and 64% for cases with curettage (p = 0.013). CONCLUSION: Although local control rates are unlikely to improve with use of preoperative denosumab, a short preoperative course of denosumab can facilitate surgery in certain cases of operable GCTB, with a high risk of local recurrence making curettage or resection technically easier. It may also help in converting a lesion requiring resection to a lesion that could possibly be treated with curettage.

AIMS: A single-centre prospective randomized trial was conducted to investigate whether a less intensive follow-up protocol would not be inferior to a conventional follow-up protocol, in terms of overall survival, in patients who have undergone surgery for sarcoma of the limb. Initial short-term results were published in 2014. PATIENTS AND METHODS: The primary objective was to show non-inferiority of a chest radiograph (CXR) group compared with a CT scan group, and of a less frequent (six-monthly) group than a more frequent (three-monthly) group, in two-by-two comparison. The primary outcome was overall survival and the secondary outcome was a recurrence-free survival. Five-year survival was compared between the CXR and CT scan groups and between the three-monthly and six-monthly groups. Of 500 patients who were enrolled, 476 were available for follow-up. Survival analyses were performed on a per-protocol basis (n = 412). RESULTS: The updated results recorded 12 (2.4%) local recurrences, 182 (36.8%) metastases, and 56 (11.3%) combined (local + metastases) recurrence at a median follow-up of 81 months (60 to 118). Of 68 local recurrences, 60 (88%) were identified by the patients themselves. The six-monthly regime (overall survival (OS) 54%, recurrence-free survival (RFS) 46%) did not lead to a worse survival and was not inferior to the three-monthly regime (OS 55%, RFS 47%) in terms of detecting recurrence. Although CT scans (OS 53%, RFS 54%) detected pulmonary metastasis earlier, it did not lead to a better survival compared with CXR (OS 56%, RFS 59%). CONCLUSION: The overall survival of patients who are treated for a sarcoma of the limb is not inferior to those followed up with a less intensive regimen than a more intensive protocol, in terms of frequency of visits and mode of imaging. CXR at six-monthly intervals and patient education about examination of the site of the surgery will detect most recurrences without deleterious effects on the eventual outcome. BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Prehospital stroke scales may help identify patients likely to have large-vessel occlusion to facilitate rapid triage to thrombectomy-capable stroke centers. Scale misclassification may result in inaccurate decisions and possible harm. Pre-existing leukoaraiosis has been shown to attenuate the association between deficit type and stroke severity. We sought to determine whether leukoaraiosis affects the predictive ability of 5 commonly used large-vessel occlusion scales. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed 274 consecutive patients with stroke with available brain MR imaging and vessel imaging. We used the following large-vessel occlusion scales: the 3-Item Stroke Scale; Field Assessment Stroke Triage for Emergency Destination; Rapid Arterial Occlusion Evaluation; Vision, Aphasia, Neglect score; and Cincinnati Prehospital Stroke Severity Scale. For diagnostic scale accuracy, we assessed sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value, and κ. Multivariable logistic regression was used to determine the predictive ability of the scales after adjustment for leukoaraiosis and potential confounders. RESULTS: In unadjusted analyses, all scales predicted the presence of large-vessel occlusion (n = 46, P < .01 each), though diagnostic accuracy was attenuated among patients with moderate-to-severe leukoaraiosis. After adjustment, the Field Assessment Stroke Triage for Emergency Destination (OR = 3.2; 95% CI, 1.1-9.5; P = .033) and Rapid Arterial Occlusion Evaluation (OR = 3.7; 95% CI, 1.3-10.8; P = .015), but not the 3-Item Stroke Scale (OR = 5.4; 95% CI, 0.86-33.9; P = .073), Vision, Aphasia, Neglect score (OR = 2.5; 95% CI, 0.8-7.2), and Cincinnati Prehospital Stroke Severity Scale (OR = 2.8; 95% CI, 1.0-8.0), predicted large-vessel occlusion. CONCLUSIONS: The diagnostic accuracy of the tested large-vessel occlusion scales was attenuated in the presence of moderate-to-severe leukoaraiosis. This information that may aid the design of future studies that require large-vessel occlusion scale screening of patients who are likely to have concomitant leukoaraiosis.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Perforation is one of the worst complications of therapeutic endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP). We aimed to study the epidemiology of ERCP related perforation and the impact of completion of intended procedure on the outcome of this complication. METHODS: ERCP records from January 2007 to April 2012 were independently evaluated by two investigators for the occurrence of procedure related perforations. A total of 11 500 patients underwent therapeutic ERCP during the study period. The case records of 171 (1.5 %) patients with ERCP related perforations were reviewed to analyze the epidemiology and risk factors associated with poor outcome. RESULTS: Of the 171 patients included in this study, the majority of perforations (n = 129, 75.4 %) were related to use of the needle-knife precut technique. Female gender (1.9 % vs 0.7 %, P  < 0.001), age > 40 years (1.7 % vs 1.1 %, P  < 0.01), and benign disease (1.7 % vs. 1.1 %, P  < 0.01) were risk factors for ERCP related perforation. Most of the perforations (n = 135, 79 %) were detected during the procedure. The majority of patients were managed conservatively (n = 164, 96 %). Although 159 patients recovered, 12 patients (7 %) did not survive. Completion of intended biliary procedure for primary disease was associated with low risk of mortality (2 % vs 15.4 %, P  < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: ERCP related perforation is uncommon. The majority of patients can be managed conservatively. The risk of mortality is low and completion of the intended biliary procedure decreases the risk of mortality.

Essentials We previously published a diagnostic algorithm for heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT). In this study, we validated the algorithm in an independent large healthcare system. The accuracy was 98%, sensitivity 82% and specificity 99%. The algorithm has potential to improve accuracy and efficiency in the diagnosis of HIT. SUMMARY: Background Heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT) is a life-threatening drug reaction caused by antiplatelet factor 4/heparin (anti-PF4/H) antibodies. Commercial tests to detect these antibodies have suboptimal operating characteristics. We previously developed a diagnostic algorithm for HIT that incorporated 'four Ts' (4Ts) scoring and a stratified interpretation of an anti-PF4/H enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and yielded a discriminant accuracy of 0.97 (95% confidence interval [CI], 0.93-1.00). Objectives The purpose of this study was to validate the algorithm in an independent patient population and quantitate effects that algorithm adherence could have on clinical care. Methods A retrospective cohort comprised patients who had undergone anti-PF4/H ELISA and serotonin release assay (SRA) testing in our healthcare system from 2010 to 2014. We determined the algorithm recommendation for each patient, compared recommendations with the clinical care received, and enumerated consequences of discrepancies. Operating characteristics were calculated for algorithm recommendations using SRA as the reference standard. Results Analysis was performed on 181 patients, 10 of whom were ruled in for HIT. The algorithm accurately stratified 98% of patients (95% CI, 95-99%), ruling out HIT in 158, ruling in HIT in 10 and recommending an SRA in 13 patients. Algorithm adherence would have obviated 165 SRAs and prevented 30 courses of unnecessary antithrombotic therapy for HIT. Diagnostic sensitivity was 0.82 (95% CI, 0.48-0.98), specificity 0.99 (95% CI, 0.97-1.00), PPV 0.90 (95% CI, 0.56-0.99) and NPV 0.99 (95% CI, 0.96-1.00). Conclusions An algorithm incorporating 4Ts scoring and a stratified interpretation of the anti-PF4/H ELISA has good operating characteristics and the potential to improve management of suspected HIT patients.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Advancements in medical device and imaging technology as well as accruing clinical evidence have accelerated the growth of the endovascular treatment of cerebrovascular diseases. However, the augmented role of these procedures raises concerns about the radiation dose to patients and operators. We evaluated patient doses from an x-ray imaging platform with radiation dose-reduction technology, which combined image noise reduction, motion correction, and contrast-dependent temporal averaging with optimized x-ray exposure settings. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this single-center, retrospective study, cumulative dose-area product inclusive of fluoroscopy, angiography, and 3D acquisitions for all neurovascular procedures performed during a 2-year period on the dose-reduction platform were compared with a reference platform. Key study features were the following: The neurointerventional radiologist could select the targeted dose reduction for each patient with the dose-reduction platform, and the statistical analyses included patient characteristics and the neurointerventional radiologist as covariates. The analyzed outcome measures were cumulative dose (kerma)-area product, fluoroscopy duration, and administered contrast volume. RESULTS: A total of 1238 neurointerventional cases were included, of which 914 and 324 were performed on the reference and dose-reduction platforms, respectively. Over all diagnostic and neurointerventional procedures, the cumulative dose-area product was significantly reduced by 53.2% (mean reduction, 160.3 Gy × cm2; P < .0001), fluoroscopy duration was marginally significantly increased (mean increase, 5.2 minutes; P = .0491), and contrast volume was nonsignificantly increased (mean increase, 15.3 mL; P = .1616) with the dose-reduction platform. CONCLUSIONS: A significant reduction in patient radiation dose is achievable during neurovascular procedures by using dose-reduction technology with a minimal impact on workflow.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Although most cervical dissections are managed medically, emergent endovascular treatment may become necessary in the presence of intracranial large-vessel occlusions, flow-limiting and long-segment dissections with impending occlusion, and/or hypoperfusion-related ischemia at risk of infarction. We investigated the role of emergent endovascular stenting of long-segment carotid dissections in the acute ischemic stroke setting. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We retrospectively studied long-segment carotid dissections requiring stent reconstruction with multiple tandem stents (≥3 stents) and presenting with acute (<12 hours) ischemic stroke symptoms (NIHSS score, ≥4). We analyzed patient demographics, vascular risk factors, clinical presentations, imaging/angiographic findings, technical procedures/complications, and clinical outcomes. RESULTS: Fifteen patients (mean age, 51.5 years) with acute ischemic stroke (mean NIHSS score, 15) underwent endovascular stent reconstruction for vessel and/or ischemic tissue salvage. All carotid dissections presented with >70% flow limiting stenosis and involved the distal cervical ICA with a minimum length of 3.5 cm. Carotid stent reconstruction was successful in all patients with no residual stenosis or flow limitation. Nine patients (60%) harbored intracranial occlusions, and 6 patients (40%) required intra-arterial thrombolysis/thrombectomy, achieving 100% TICI 2b-3 reperfusion. Two procedural complications were limited to thromboembolic infarcts from in-stent thrombus and asymptomatic hemorrhagic infarct transformation (7% morbidity, 0% mortality). Angiographic and ultrasound follow-up confirmed normal carotid caliber and stent patency, with 2 cases of <20% in-stent stenosis. Early clinical improvement resulted in a mean discharge NIHSS score of 6, and 9/15 (60%) patients achieved a 90-day mRS of ≤2. CONCLUSIONS: Emergent stent reconstruction of long-segment and flow-limiting carotid dissections in acute ischemic stroke intervention is safe and effective, with favorable clinical outcomes, allowing successful thrombectomy, vessel salvage, restoration of cerebral perfusion, and/or prevention of recurrent thromboembolic stroke.

AIMS: To review various pathologic parameters in diagnosed cases of trunk and extremity-based soft tissue tumors (STTs), in order to identify concordance rate between initial biopsy and resection specimen and discrepancies between initial and review diagnosis, by a specialist pathologist. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Over a 2-year-period, 400 retrospectively diagnosed STTs (553 specimens) including referral and "in-house" cases were studied. The reviewing specialist pathologist was blinded to the initial diagnoses. Discordances including discrepancies and deficiencies were defined as major and minor. Major discrepancies included those that could lead to significant treatment changes. True discrepancies were those related to sampling issues between the biopsies and resection specimens. Deficiencies relating to tumor subtyping, sarcoma grading, documentation of tumor size, and marginal status (in resections) were subdivided as major and minor. RESULTS: Most cases (328, 82%) were sarcomas (most common, synovial sarcoma; most common Stage, III), followed by benign tumors (36, 9%) (most common, schwannoma) and intermediate malignancies (32, 8%) (most common, fibromatosis). Within STTs, liposarcomas, neural tumors, and undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcomas were relatively more frequently associated with discrepancies. Percentage of cases with major discordances between the referral reports (100 cases) and review diagnosis was 60%. Percentage of cases with major discordances between the specialist and other oncopathologists was 11%. True discrepancies were observed in 20 (5%) cases. The association of type of specimen with the rate of discordance was not significant (P = 0.114). CONCLUSIONS: Diagnoses of STTs are fraught with errors mostly from general pathologists, followed by nonspecialist oncopathologists. These findings reinforce the need for reporting of STTs, especially sarcomas, by specialist pathologists.

AIM: To evaluate the clinical feasibility and accuracy of acoustic radiation force impulse (ARFI) elastography for the detection of liver fibrosis in patients with chronic viral hepatitis. MATERIALS AND METHODS: ARFI-based ultrasound elastography was performed in 69 patients with chronic liver disease (CLD) of viral aetiology and 36 healthy volunteers. Fifty-eight patients with CLD also underwent liver biopsy. RESULTS: ARFI was feasible in all 36 healthy volunteers and all 69 CLD patients, while valid measurements were obtained in 65 patients (95.6%) and all healthy volunteers. The mean shear-wave velocity (SWV) in healthy volunteers was 1.12±0.2 m/s. A gradual increase in mean SWV was noted from fibrosis of Grade F0 to F6 (Ishak's score) and a high positive correlation was found between the mean SWV on ARFI and fibrosis scores at liver biopsy (rho=0.789). The difference between the mild (F1 and F2) versus significant fibrosis (F3 and F4) was also statistically significant (p<0.001). The difference in the SWV measurements obtained from consecutive groups (i.e., F1 versus F2, F2 versus F3, and F3 versus F4) was not statistically significant. Using the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUROC), the best calculated cut-off SWVs for the presence of fibrosis (≥F1), significant fibrosis (≥F3), severe fibrosis (≥F4), and cirrhosis (F6) were found to be 1.207, 1.347, 1.513, and 1.92 m/s, respectively. ARFI values were significantly higher in cirrhotic patients than in other patients (p<0.001). CONCLUSIONS: ARFI elastography allows valid non-invasive evaluation of liver stiffness and may help to distinguish between no/mild fibrosis and significant fibrosis and guide management decisions.

BACKGROUND: One-per-mil tumescent solution, which contains 0.2% lidocaine with 1:1,000,000 epinephrine, has been reported to be clinically effective for hand surgery under local anesthesia. However, it was lacking in its basic pharmacokinetics profile in regard to the onset of action (OOA) and duration of action (DOA). METHODS: A randomized, double-blind study was conducted on 12 volunteers who met the inclusion criteria from October to November 2014. All volunteers had their right and left ring finger pulps injected with either one-per-mil solution or 2% lidocaine. Semmes-Weinstein and two-point discrimination tests were used to test sensation. Visual analogue scale was recorded at the time when the finger lost its sensation and when it regained normal sensation to measure the OOA and DOA. The data were then analyzed with a paired t-test and a Wilcoxon signed-rank test. RESULTS: The OOA and DOA of 2% plain lidocaine were 1 minute and 99.67 minutes, respectively. Meanwhile, 0.2% lidocaine in a one-per-mil tumescent solution showed an OOA of 5 minutes and a DOA of 186.83 minutes. The OOA of 0.2% lidocaine in a one-per-mil tumescent solution is statistically shorter than 2% plain lidocaine (P=0.04); while its DOA is statistically longer than 2% plain lidocaine (P<0.001). CONCLUSIONS: The 0.2% lidocaine in a one-per-mil tumescent solution is statistically and clinically superior to 2% plain lidocaine in achieving longer duration of local anesthesia.

In complex transition metal oxides (TMO) an arrested electronic phase separation (PS) appears by tuning the system near a Lifshitz transition in multiband Hubbard models. The PS in La2CuO4+y near insulator to metal transition (IMT) is made of short range Charge Density Wave (CDW) order inhomogeneity coexisting with quenched lattice disorder. While at high doping y = 0.1 percolation gives a single superconducting phase, near the IMT at y = 0.06 two coexisting superconducting phases appear: the first one with a critical temperature Tc1 = 16 K and the second one with Tc2 = 29 K. It is known that the two superconducting phases are characterized by two different space geometry because of two different spatial distributions of both CDW order and dopants self-organization. Here we show that these two phases show different flux dynamic regimes using alternating current (AC) multi-harmonic susceptibility experiments. This is a unique technique capable to investigate multi-phase superconductors and characterize their transport properties in a percolative scenario. Results point out that the low critical temperature phase is well described by a bulk-like flux pinning with a 2D geometry while the phase with higher critical temperature shows a 'barrier pinning' mechanism providing direct evidence of two different superconducting vortex dynamics in different complex geometrical spaces.

OBJECTIVE: Epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) is the physiologically most active and abundant flavanol, accounting for 50-80% of green tea catechins. It is an anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, chemopreventive and skin photoprotective agent. However, light sensitivity and low permeability of EGCG across the stratum corneum due to its high molecular weight as well as strong binding to the lipid bilayers in the skin make it difficult to be used as a key ingredient in cosmetic products. This study aimed to formulate a photostable hydrogel of EGCG with good rheological properties for dermal application and investigate the effect of skin microporation using maltose microneedles on its permeation through dermatomed porcine skin. METHODS: Effect of l-glutathione on photodegradation of EGCG was investigated by exposing samples to ultraviolet irradiation for 1 h using a solar simulator. Hydrogels with varying concentrations of Carbopol 980 (0.5-2% w/v) as an gelling agent were prepared, and their rheological properties were evaluated using a rheometer. Skin microporation was confirmed by assessing the skin resistance, transepidermal water loss and calcein imaging of the microchannels created by the microneedles. Permeation of EGCG from aqueous solution as well as the rheologically optimized hydrogel through the dermatomed porcine skin (untreated and microneedle treated) was evaluated using static vertical Franz diffusion cells. RESULTS: l-glutathione acting as a co-antioxidant and photostabilizer significantly (P < 0.05) reduced the degradation of EGCG from 21.53 ± 2.78% to 1.0 ± 0.68% after 1 h of ultraviolet irradiation. Rotational and oscillatory rheological tests indicated that the hydrogel containing 1.5% Carbopol 980 is acceptable for topical application in terms of flow behaviour, elasticity, spreadability, structural stability and thixotropy. Microneedle-treated skin showed significant enhancement (P < 0.05) in the delivery of EGCG to viable epidermis and dermis from the aqueous solution (38.67 ± 2.96 µg cm(-2) ) as well as hydrogel (24.60 ± 2.62 µg cm(-2) ) in comparison with the untreated skin (24.16 ± 2.11 and 15.62 ± 0.24 µg cm(-2) for aqueous solution and hydrogel, respectively). CONCLUSION: Addition of glutathione in EGCG formulations significantly reduces its photodegradation. Skin microporation with maltose microneedles facilitates the penetration of EGCG across the stratum corneum into the deeper skin layers - viable epidermis and dermis.

INTRODUCTION AND BACKGROUND: This study was conducted to know the spectrum and number of bone and soft tissue (BST) tumors presenting to our institute. We needed to assess the gap between the number of patients seen and infrastructure available, and based on this information, help formulate guidelines for optimum utilization of resources and to provide best possible evidence-based cancer care. SETTINGS AND DESIGNS: This is a prospective observational study (epidemiological). MATERIALS AND METHODS: This study included all new patients seen in BST-disease management group (DMG) in the year 2010. An audit form was devised to capture all the relevant information. A comparison of our data with other national and international studies was also done. RESULTS: Out of total 31,951 new patients registered at our institute, 2007 patients availed BST-DMG services. Sixty percent were bone tumors and 36% were soft tissue tumors. In bone tumor, 66% were malignant, 15% were benign, and 19% were non-neoplastic. Osteosarcoma (43%) was the most common malignant tumor followed by primitive neuroectodermal tumor/Ewing's (27%) and chondrosarcoma (11%). Giant cell tumor was the most common benign bone tumor. Eighty-one percent of all soft tissue lesions were malignant, of which 75% were of mesenchymal origin and 25% were of cutaneous origin. CONCLUSION: This is an attempt to document the epidemiology of musculoskeletal tumors presenting to our institution while guiding the institute to frame and implement disease-specific protocols and generate further research questions. Continued data collection and follow-up can provide valuable information on long-term survival and treatment-related toxicities. This data (within limitations) may be extrapolated to national level to identify the need for infrastructure and human resources.
