RESUMEN

Primary prostatic adenocarcinoma (pPC) undergoes genomic evolution secondary to therapy-related selection pressures as it transitions to metastatic noncastrate (mNC-PC) and castrate resistant (mCR-PC) disease. Next generation sequencing results were evaluated for pPC (n = 97), locally advanced disease (involving urinary bladder/rectum, n = 12), mNC-PC (n = 21), and mCR-PC (n = 54). We identified enrichment of TP53 alterations in high-grade pPC, TP53/RB1 alterations in HGNE disease, and AR alterations in metastatic and castrate resistant disease. Actionable alterations (MSI-H phenotype and HRR genes) were identified in approximately a fifth of all cases. These results help elucidate the landscape of genomic alterations across the clinical spectrum of prostate cancer.

RESUMEN

The second-generation antiandrogens have achieved an ever-growing list of approvals and indications in subsets of prostate cancer. Here, we provide an overview of second-generation antiandrogen trials and FDA approvals and outline a rational sequencing approach for the use of these agents as they relate to chemotherapy and other available treatment modalities in advanced prostate cancer. All published phase II-III randomized controlled trials reporting outcomes with the use of second-generation antiandrogens in prostate cancer are included as well as all published trials and retrospective studies of second-generation antiandrogen sequencing and/or combinations. Complete tabular and graphical representation of all available evidence is provided regarding the use and sequencing of second-generation antiandrogens in prostate cancer. In metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer, evidence suggests prioritization of abiraterone before chemotherapy, chemotherapy after second-generation antiandrogen failure, and postchemotherapy enzalutamide in select patients to maximize agent efficacy and tolerability. We conclude that a rational, optimized sequencing of second-generation antiandrogens with other treatment options is feasible with present data.

PURPOSE: Outcomes for resistant metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) are poor. Stereotactic ablative radiotherapy (SABR) induces antitumor immunity in clinical and preclinical studies, but immunologic biomarkers are lacking. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Eighty-nine patients with oligometastatic CRPC were identified by 11C-Choline-PET (Choline-PET) from August 2016 to December 2019 and treated with SABR. Prespecified coprimary endpoints were 2-year overall survival (OS) and PSA progression. Secondary endpoints included 2-year SABR-treated local failure and 6-month adverse events. Correlative studies included peripheral blood T-cell subpopulations before and after SABR. RESULTS: 128 lesions in 89 patients were included in this analysis. Median OS was 29.3 months, and 1- and 2-year OS were 96% and 80%, respectively. PSA PFS was 40% at 1 year and 21% at 2 years. Local PFS was 84.4% and 75.3% at 1 and 2 years, respectively, and no grade ≥3 AEs were observed. Baseline high levels of tumor-reactive T cells (TTR; CD8+CD11ahigh) predicted superior local, PSA, and distant PFS. Baseline high levels of effector memory T cells (TEM; CCR7-CD45RA-) were associated with improved PSA PFS. An increase in TTR at day 14 from baseline was associated with superior OS. CONCLUSIONS: This is the first comprehensive effector T-cell immunophenotype analysis in a phase II trial before and after SABR in CRPC. Results are favorable and support the incorporation of immune-based markers in the design of future randomized trials in patients with oligometastatic CRPC treated with SABR.

Those with metastatic urothelial carcinoma generally respond more poorly to chemotherapy after they have progression on a checkpoint inhibitor (CPI). There is interest in combining CPIs with conventional cytotoxic chemotherapies as a strategy to exploit the efficacy and immunomodulatory effects of chemotherapy. We conducted a single institution, retrospective analysis including all patients treated between May 2018 and May 2020 with carboplatin and paclitaxel, concurrently or sequential with pembrolizumab, after having progression on a CPI alone. Clinical characteristics, response by RECIST 1.1, progression-free survival, and safety/tolerance of the treatment are reported. Median age was 80 years (64-85). Five patients (100%) had visceral metastases when starting carboplatin and paclitaxel. Chemotherapy was given with concurrent pembrolizumab (four patients) or following pembrolizumab (one patient) and continued until maximum response, significant toxicity, or progression. Two patients subsequently remained on maintenance pembrolizumab. There were four partial responses and one patient with stable disease. All patients on follow-up have progressed with median time to progression of 47 weeks (18-75). Two patients died from disease progression. This case series suggests that the combination of carboplatin, paclitaxel, and pembrolizumab leads to durable freedom from progression in some with metastatic urothelial cancer, who have progressed on a CPI alone. Larger studies of chemoimmunotherapy for metastatic urothelial carcinoma are warranted.

INTRODUCTION: Chemotherapy in combination with immunotherapy has a proven survival benefit compared to chemotherapy alone in extensive stage small cell lung cancer (SCLC) and is the new standard of care. Since extrapulmonary small cell carcinomas (SCCs) are less common, treatment paradigms are reasonably extrapolated from SCLC regimens. We examined our institution's experience utilizing the combination of chemotherapy and immunotherapy (as used in SCLC) for SCC and neuroendocrine carcinoma of the prostate. METHODS: Utilizing an institutional database search tool, we queried the electronic medical record to identify patients with SCC or neuroendocrine carcinoma of the prostate who had been treated with atezolizumab and chemotherapy. We recorded patient characteristics, including age, pathology, and disease extent. Treatment characteristics included number of prior treatments, use of concominant androgen deprivation, number of cycles of immunotherapy, and prior systemic therapies (including those for adenocarcinoma of the prostate). Progression free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) were the primary outcomes. RESULTS: We identified seven men who received atezolizumab for metastatic prostate cancer with a small cell or neuroendocrine component. In six of the seven patients, the combination of carboplatin, etoposide, and atezolizumab was the first-line of treatment after diagnosis of small cell or neuroendocrine carcinoma. Two of the seven patients had de novo small cell/neuroendocrine pathology, while the other five had transformation from a preexisting adenocarcinoma. In the patients who received chemotherapy plus immunotherapy in the first-line setting, at a median follow-up of 6.5 months (range: 1.5-15.1) the median PFS was 3.4 months and median OS was 8.4 months. CONCLUSION: Small cell or neuroendocrine carcinoma of the prostate was associated with poor survival outcomes despite adding immunotherapy (atezolizumab) to chemotherapy (carboplatin and etoposide). To our knowledge, there has been no demonstrable benefit of adding immunotherapy to chemotherapy in this setting.

Sensory information arising from limb movements controls the spinal locomotor circuitry to adapt the motor pattern to demands of the environment. Stimulation of extensor group (gr) I afferents during fictive locomotion in decerebrate cats prolongs the ongoing extension, and terminates ongoing flexion with an initiation of the subsequent extension, i. e. "resetting to extension". Moreover, instead of the classical Ib non-reciprocal inhibition, stimulation of extensor gr I afferents produces a polysynaptic excitation in extensor motoneurons with latencies (∼3.5-4.0 ms) compatible with 3 interposed interneurons. We assume that some interneurons in this pathway actually belong to the rhythm-generating layer of the locomotor Central Pattern Generator (CPG), since their activity was correlated to a resetting of the rhythm. In the present work fictive locomotion was (mostly) induced by i.v. injection of nialamide followed by l-DOPA in paralyzed cats following decerebration and spinalization at C1 level. In some experiments, we extended previous observations during fictive locomotion on the emergence and locomotor state-dependence of polysynaptic excitatory postsynaptic potentials from extensor gr I afferents to ankle extensor motoneurons. However, the main focus was to record location and properties of interneurons (n = 62) that (i) were active during the extensor phase of fictive locomotion and (ii) received short-latency excitation (mono-, di- or polysynaptic) from extensor gr I afferents. We conclude that the interneurons recorded fulfill the characteristics to belong to the neuronal pathway activated by extensor gr I afferents during locomotion, and may contribute to the 'resetting to extension' as part of the locomotor CPG.

BACKGROUND: Point-of-care (POC) CD4+ technologies have the potential to increase patient access to treatment and care through rapid testing and result delivery at or close to where patients seek care. South African (SA) guidelines suggest the use of CD4+ testing to prioritise patients most in need of antiretroviral therapy (ART) and to support identification of patients with advanced HIV disease and opportunistic management of patients on ART. Understanding the patient impact of implementing POC CD4+ testing in the intended setting and operated by lower cadres of healthcare worker or non-professional healthcare facility staff will provide valuable insight into the appropriate use and placement of POC CD4+ technologies throughout SA. OBJECTIVES: To determine the patient impact (turnaround time of tests, loss to follow-up, and proportions of eligible patients proceeding to the next steps in the testing and treatment cascade) of implementing POC CD4+ testing technologies compared with conventional laboratory-based CD4+ testing. METHODS: This retrospective cohort study included all HIV-positive adults from 30 healthcare facilities in Free State Province, SA. Healthcare facilities were placed into two groups (POC and laboratory referral) using a stratified randomisation technique based on the presence of a POC CD4+ technology and minimal ART volumes. Patients who received a CD4+ test prior to ART initiation between September 2012 and September 2014 were included. Data were collected from patient charts and the POC devices. RESULTS: For new patients, the average time from HIV diagnosis and CD4+ testing was reduced from 7.6 days in the laboratory referral group to 4.5 days in the POC group, a decrease of almost 60%. Additionally, 59.6% of patients in the POC group received their HIV diagnosis and CD4+ test result on the same day, compared with 37.5% in the laboratory referral group (risk ratio (RR) 1.49; 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.01 - 2.18). Fewer patients were lost between HIV diagnosis and CD4+ testing (2.7% v. 8.6%) (RR 0.02; 95% CI 0.05 - 0.78) in the POC group. The average test error rate across the study time period was 8.4%; however, the error rate remained <5% for the final 5 months of the study. CONCLUSIONS: Introduction of the Alere Pima POC CD4+ technology in the Free State, operated by nurses and lay counsellors, was associated with positive patient outcomes across all parameters analysed. While this study highlighted an effective conventional laboratory network, a full costing and affordability analysis coupled with patient impact and access data from this study will provide further insight into the potential deployment strategies of POC CD4+ technologies in SA.

Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the penis is a rare cancer in the industrialized countries, including the United States. Risk factors for these cancers include inflammatory conditions as well as infection with the human papilloma virus (HPV). Treatment modalities are based on TNM staging and may include surgical management or chemoradiation. Patients with local or some regional disease can have a favorable prognosis; however, with extranodal metastasis, survival decreases sharply. Here, we present a case of long-term disease-free survival in a patient with widely metastatic SCC of the penis.

PURPOSE: To assess gastrointestinal (GI) and genitourinary (GU) adverse events (AEs) of 11C-choline-positron emission tomography (CholPET) guided lymph node (LN) radiation therapy (RT) in patients who experience biochemical failure after radical prostatectomy. METHODS AND MATERIALS: From 2013 to 2016, 107 patients experienced biochemical failure of prostate cancer, had CholPET-detected pelvic and/or paraortic LN recurrence, and were referred for RT. Patients received androgen suppression and CholPET guided LN RT (median dose, 45 Gy) with a simultaneous integrated boost to CholPET-avid sites (median dose, 56.25 Gy), all in 25 fractions. RT-naïve patients had the prostatic fossa included in the initial treatment volumes followed by a sequential boost (median dose, 68 Gy). GI and GU AEs were reported per Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events (version 4.0) with data gathered retrospectively. Differences in maximum GI and GU AEs at baseline, immediately post-RT, and at early (median, 4 months) and late (median, 14 months) follow-up were assessed. RESULTS: Median follow-up was 16 months (interquartile range [IQR], 11-25). Median prostate-specific antigen at time of positive CholPET was 2.3 ng/mL (IQR, 1.3-4.8), with a median of 2 (IQR, 1-4) choline-avid LNs per patient. Most recurrences were within the pelvis (53%) or pelvis + paraortic (40%). Baseline rates of grade 1 to 2 GI AEs were 8.4% compared with 51.9% (4.7% grade 2) of patients post-RT (P < .01). These differences resolved by 4-month (12.2%, P = .65) and 14-month AE assessments (9.1%, P = .87). There was no significant change in grade 1 to 2 GU AEs post-RT (64.1%) relative to baseline (56.0%, P = .21), although differences did arise at 4-month (72.2%, P = .01) and 14-month (74.3%, P = .01) AE assessments. CONCLUSIONS: Salvage CholPET guided nodal RT has acceptably low rates of acute GI and GU AEs and no significant detriment in 14-month GI AEs. These data are of value in counseling patients and designing prospective trials evaluating the oncologic efficacy of this treatment strategy.

A deficiency of maternal folic acid (FA) can compromise the function and development of the brain, and may produce a susceptibility to diseases such as schizophrenia (SZ) in the later life of offspring. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of both FA deficient and FA supplemented diets during gestation and lactation on behavioural parameters, the markers of oxidative stress and neurotrophic factors in adult offspring which had been subjected to an animal model of SZ. Female mother rats (Dam's) were separated into experimental maternal groups, which began receiving a special diet (food) consisting of the AIN-93 diet, a control diet, or an FA deficient diet during the periods of pregnancy and lactation. Dam's receiving the control diet were further subdivided into four groups: one group received only control diet, while three groups to receive supplementation with FA at different doses (5, 10 and 50 mg/kg). Adult offspring bred from the Dam's were divided into ten groups for induction of the animal model of SZ through the administration of ketamine (Ket) (25 mg/kg). After the last administration of the drug, the animals were subjected to the behavioural tests and were then euthanized. The frontal cortex (FC) and hippocampus (Hip) were then dissected for later biochemical analysis. Our data demonstrates that Ket induced the model of SZ by altering the behavioural parameters (e.g. hyperlocomotion, social impairment, deficits in the sensory-motor profile and memory damage in the adult animals); and also caused changes in the parameters of oxidative stress (lipid hydroperoxide - LPO; 8-isoprostane - 8-ISO; 4-hydroxynonenal - 4-HNE; protein carbonyl content; superoxide dismutase - SOD and catalase - CAT) as well as in the levels of neurotrophic factors (brain-derived neurotrophic factor - BDNF and nerve growth factor - NGF) particularly within the FC of adult offspring. A deficiency in maternal FA, alone or in combination with ket, was able to induce hyperlocomotion and social impairment in the offspring with increased levels of lipid and protein damage (LPO, 8-ISO, 4-HNE, carbonylation of protein) within the FC, increased activity of antioxidant enzymes (SOD and CAT) in both of the brain structures studied, and also reduced the levels of neurotrophins (BDNF and NGF), particularly within the Hip of the adult offspring. Supplementation of FA (5, 10 and 50 mg/kg) to the Dam's was mostly able to prevent the cognitive damage which was induced by Ket in the adult animals. FA (10 and 50 mg/kg) attenuated the action of Ket in the animals in relation to the biochemical parameters, proving the possible neuroprotective effect of FA in the adulthood of offspring that were subjected to the animal model of SZ. Our study indicates that the intake of maternal FA during pregnancy and lactation plays an important role, particularly in the regulation of markers of oxidative stress and neurotrophins.

Although deep brain stimulation (DBS) is an established treatment choice for Parkinson's disease (PD), essential tremor and movement disorders, its effectiveness for the management of treatment-resistant depression (TRD) remains unclear. Herein, we conducted an integrative review on major neuroanatomical targets of DBS pursued for the treatment of intractable TRD. The aim of this review article is to provide a critical discussion of possible underlying mechanisms for DBS-generated antidepressant effects identified in preclinical studies and clinical trials, and to determine which brain target(s) elicited the most promising outcomes considering acute and maintenance treatment of TRD. Major electronic databases were searched to identify preclinical and clinical studies that have investigated the effects of DBS on depression-related outcomes. Overall, 92 references met inclusion criteria, and have evaluated six unique DBS targets namely the subcallosal cingulate gyrus (SCG), nucleus accumbens (NAc), ventral capsule/ventral striatum or anterior limb of internal capsule (ALIC), medial forebrain bundle (MFB), lateral habenula (LHb) and inferior thalamic peduncle for the treatment of unrelenting TRD. Electrical stimulation of these pertinent brain regions displayed differential effects on mood transition in patients with TRD. In addition, 47 unique references provided preclinical evidence for putative neurobiological mechanisms underlying antidepressant effects of DBS applied to the ventromedial prefrontal cortex, NAc, MFB, LHb and subthalamic nucleus. Preclinical studies suggest that stimulation parameters and neuroanatomical locations could influence DBS-related antidepressant effects, and also pointed that modulatory effects on monoamine neurotransmitters in target regions or interconnected brain networks following DBS could have a role in the antidepressant effects of DBS. Among several neuromodulatory targets that have been investigated, DBS in the neuroanatomical framework of the SCG, ALIC and MFB yielded more consistent antidepressant response rates in samples with TRD. Nevertheless, more well-designed randomized double-blind, controlled trials are warranted to further assess the efficacy, safety and tolerability of these more promising DBS targets for the management of TRD as therapeutic effects have been inconsistent across some controlled studies.

Although folic acid (FA) supplementation is known to influence numerous physiological functions, especially during pregnancy, little is known about its direct effects on the mothers' health. However, this vitamin is essential for the health of the mother and for the normal growth and development of the fetus. Thus, the aim of this study was (1) to evaluate the cognitive effects and biochemical markers produced by the AIN-93 diet (control), the AIN-93 diet supplemented with different doses of FA (5, 10, and 50 mg/kg), and a FA-deficient diet during pregnancy and lactation in female mother rats (dams) and (2) to evaluate the effect of maternal diets on inflammatory parameters in the adult offspring which were subjected to an animal model of schizophrenia (SZ) induced by ketamine (Ket). Our study demonstrated through the Y-maze test that rats subjected to the FA-deficient diet showed significant deficits in spatial memory, while animals supplemented with FA (5 and 10 mg/kg) showed no deficit in spatial memory. Our results also suggest that the rats subjected to the FA-deficient diet had increased levels of carbonylated proteins in the frontal cortex and hippocampus and also increased plasma levels of homocysteine (Hcy). Folate was able to prevent cognitive impairments in the rats supplemented with FA (5 and 10 mg/kg), data which may be attributed to the antioxidant effect of the vitamin. Moreover, FA prevented protein damage and elevations in Hcy levels in the rats subjected to different doses of this vitamin (5, 10, and 50 mg/kg). We verified a significant increase of the anti-inflammatory cytokine (interleukin-4 (IL-4)) and a reduction in the plasma levels of proinflammatory cytokines (interleukin-6 (IL-6)) and TNF-α) in the dams that were subjected to the diets supplemented with FA (5, 10, and 50 mg/kg), showing the possible anti-inflammatory effects of FA during pregnancy and lactation. In general, we also found that in the adult offspring that were subjected to an animal model of SZ, FA had a protective effect in relation to the levels of IL-4, IL-6, and TNF-α, which indicates that the action of FA persisted in the adult offspring, since FA showed a lasting effect on the inflammatory response, which was similar in both the dams and their offspring. In conclusion, the importance of supplementation with FA during pregnancy and lactation should be emphasized, not only for the benefit of the offspring but also for the health of the mother. All this is due to the considerable protective effect of this vitamin against oxidative damage, cognitive impairment, hyperhomocysteinemia, immune function, and also its ability in preventing common processes in post-pregnancy stages, as well as in reducing the risks of neurodevelopmental disorders and enhancing fetal immune development.

PURPOSE: We describe anatomical sites of recurrence in patients with prostate cancer who had biochemical recurrence following radical prostatectomy and who received radiotherapy and/or androgen deprivation therapy postoperatively. We performed 11C-choline positron emission tomography/computerized tomography and multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging. MATERIALS AND METHODS: After radiotherapy and/or androgen deprivation therapy patients who underwent radical prostatectomy were evaluated by 11C-choline positron emission tomography/computerized tomography and multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging to determine recurrence patterns and clinicopathological features. Recurrent sites were described as local only (seminal vesicle bed/prostate fossa, vesicourethral anastomosis and bladder neck) or distant metastatic disease. Features associated with the identification of any distant metastatic disease were evaluated by multivariable logistic regression. RESULTS: A total of 550 patients were identified. Treatment included androgen deprivation therapy in 108, radiotherapy in 201, and androgen deprivation therapy and radiotherapy in 241. Median prostate specific antigen at evaluation was 3.9, 3.6 and 2.8 ng/ml in patients treated with androgen deprivation therapy, radiotherapy and a combination, respectively. Recurrence developed locally in 77 patients (14%), as distant metastasis only in 411 (75%), and as local and distant metastatic disease in 62 (11%). On multivariable analysis treatment with radiotherapy (OR 7.18, 95% CI 2.92-17.65), and radiotherapy and hormonal therapy (OR 9.23, 95% CI 3.90-21.87, all p <0.01) was associated with increased odds of distant failure at evaluation. CONCLUSIONS: The combination of 11C-choline positron emission tomography/computerized tomography and multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging successfully identified patterns of recurrence after postoperative radiotherapy and/or androgen deprivation therapy at a median prostate specific antigen of less than 4 ng/ml. Half of this cohort had local only recurrence and/or a low disease burden limited to pelvic lymph nodes. These patients may benefit from additional local therapy. These data and this analysis may facilitate the evaluation of such patients with biochemically recurrent prostate cancer.

Tiger nuts' milk beverages are highly perishable products. For this reason, the interest of food industry for their commercialization makes necessary the application of preservation treatments to prolong their shelf-life. In the current study, the effect of ultra-high pressure homogenization (UHPH) on the microbiological and sensory qualities of tiger nuts' milk beverage was evaluated. Characteristics of UHPH-treated products (at 200 and 300 MPa, with inlet temperature of 40 °C) were compared with those of raw (RP) and conventionally homogenized-pasteurized (H-P) beverages, after treatment and during cold storage at 4 °C. Microbiological quality of beverages was studied by enumerating total counts, psychrotrophic bacteria, lactobacilli, enterobacteria, molds and yeasts, and mesophilic spores. Evolution of color and sensory characteristics of beverages were also determined. Microbiological shelf-life of the tiger nuts' milk beverages was extended from 3 to 25, 30 and 57 days by applying H-P and UHPH treatments at 200 and 300 MPa, respectively. Color of beverages was the only attribute that differentiated UHPH samples from the others, with greater luminosity and whiteness. Hence, UHPH treatments showed to be an alternative to the conventional H-P for obtaining tiger nuts' milk beverages with an improved microbiological shelf-life and good sensorial characteristics.

RESUMEN

We present a rare cause of superior vena cava syndrome (SVC) in a previously healthy male aged 31 years. Malignancy was suspected due to unintentional weight loss and childhood exposure to radioactive fallout from a nuclear facility accident. A very large anterior mediastinal mass was identified and demonstrated to be an extragonadal seminoma. Extragonadal germ cell tumours are rare tumours with a high potential for cardiovascular, pulmonary and vascular sequelae. Studies have documented an increased risk of developing seminoma in patients with radioactive exposure. Chemotherapy was initiated, during which the patient experienced progressive and new symptoms, found to be due to extensive thromboembolic disease, which responded well to anticoagulation. Seventy-two months after completing chemotherapy, without need for surgical management, he remains free of the disease.

Bipolar disorder (BD) is a severe psychiatric disorder characterized by phasic changes of mood and can be associated with progressive structural brain change and cognitive decline. The numbers and sizes of glia and neurons are reduced in several brain areas, suggesting the involvement of apoptosis in the pathophysiology of BD. Because the changes in mitochondrial dynamics are closely related with the early process of apoptosis and the specific processes of apoptosis and mitochondrial dynamics in BD have not been fully elucidated, we measured the apoptotic pathway and the expression of mitochondrial fission/fusion proteins from BD patients and healthy controls. We recruited 16 patients with BD type I and sixteen well-matched healthy controls and investigated protein levels of several pro-apoptotic and anti-apoptotic factors, as well as the expression of mitochondrial fission/fusion proteins in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs). Our results showed that the levels of the anti-apoptotic proteins Bcl-xL, survivin and Bcl-xL/Bak dimer were significantly decreased, while active caspase-3 protein levels were significantly increased in PBMCs from BD patients. Moreover, we observed the downregulation of the mitochondrial fusion-related proteins Mfn2 and Opa1 and the upregulation of the fission protein Fis1 in PBMCs from BD patients, both in terms of gene expression and protein levels. We also showed a significantly decrease in the citrate synthase activity. Finally, we found a positive correlation between Mfn2 and Opa1 with mitochondrial content markers, as well as a negative correlation between mitochondrial fission/fusion proteins and apoptotic markers. Overall, data reported here are consistent with the working hypothesis that apoptosis may contribute to cellular dysfunction, brain volume loss and progressive cognitive in BD. Moreover, we show an important relationship between mitochondrial dynamics and the cell death pathway activation in BD patients, supporting the link between mitochondrial dysfunction and the pathophysiology of BD.
