RESUMEN

Seoda cavernicola sp. nov. and Psychoda glamocensis sp. nov., are new species and cave dwellers from Bosnia and Hercegovina, and Croatia. Adults of S. cavernicola are pale and small; the eye bridge is reduced, ommatidia irregularly arranged, epandrium with a pair of setose excrescences. The eye bridge of P. glamocensis is likewise reduced with 2 or 3 irregularly ordered facet rows, palpus segments of some individuals are malformed; its closest relative is Psychoda alticola Vaillant based on the morphology of male and female genitalia as well as on COI barcodes.

RESUMEN

Leptomeson Jeannel, 1924, originally treated as a subgenus of Anthroherpon Reitter, 1889 (Jeannel, 1924), was erected to a distinct genus by Guéorguiev (1990). It currently includes 13 endemic taxa (nine species and four subspecies) (Perreau, 2015), of which five species are recently described (Giachino et al., 2011). All Leptomeson taxa are troglobitic, montane or insular, and are distributed in a narrow Dinaric area in the proximity to the Adriatic Sea coast belonging to Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina (Perreau, 2000; Giachino et al., 2011) (Fig. 1).

RESUMEN

Chaetomargoreicheia Magrini Bulirsch, 2005 is a recently established genus of scaritine ground beetles (Bulirsch Guéorguiev, 2008) (treated by certain authors as a subgenus of the genus Reicheadella Reitter, 1913) (Magrini Bulirsch, 2005; Balkenohl, 2017) which currently contains two endogean species inhabiting the Balkan Peninsula: Chaetomargoreicheia zoufali (Reitter, 1913) and C. lakotai (Magrini Bulirsch, 2005) (Balkenohl, 2003, 2017; Magrini Bulirsch, 2005; Bulirsch Guéorguiev, 2008). The aforementioned species are montane and inhabit confined geographic areas (Jeannel, 1957; Magrini Bulirsch, 2005). C. zoufali was found only in the surroundings of the village of Ravno (collected beneath a deep layer of leaf-litter), Mt. Bjelasnica, near Trebinje, E Herzegovina (Bosnia and Herzegovina), while C. lakotai was found at the entrance of a cave nearby a road (collected under a huge stone), in Mt. Lovcen, near Kotor, S Montenegro (Reitter, 1913; Holdhaus, 1924; Jeannel, 1957; Magrini Bulirsch, 2005). Chaetomargoreicheia species represent quite rare, stenoendemic taxa, for each of the up-to-now known species only one specimen has been collected by hand so far (Reitter, 1913; Jeannel, 1957; Magrini Bulirsch, 2005). The fourth author of the current study investigated numerous underground and endogean high-altitude habitats in Dalmatia (Croatia) in the last few years. As a result of the exploration, he has recently collected a small sample of scaritine ground beetles from a cave in S Croatia. After thorough analysis of the sample, we have identified a new Chaetomargoreicheia species.

RESUMEN

Seven new troglobitic leiodid beetle taxa (six new species and one new subspecies) from several caves and pits in the Balkan Peninsula (Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia) are described and diagnosed. Three new species belong to the genus Adelopidius Apfelbeck, 1907, two-to the genus Pholeuonopsis Apfelbeck, 1901, one-to the genus Leonhardia Reitter, 1901, while a new subspecies belongs to the genus Apholeuonus Reitter, 1889. All important morphological characteristics of the new taxa have been mentioned and imaged, including the aspects of the male and female genitalia. The new leiodid taxa are properly distinguished from their relatives and are endemics of the Dinaric mountain chain. A key to Adelopidius taxa is added.

RESUMEN

A review of the genus Typhloiulus Latzel, 1884 (Julida: Julidae) in the Dinaric region is given. Previously published and new faunistic records are provided for each species, together with notes for some of them. Four new species are described: T. clavatus sp. nov., T. gracilis sp. nov., T. opisthonodus sp. nov., and T. parvulus sp. nov., all from caves in Dalmatia and Herzegovina. In addition, we provide the first description of the male of T. insularis Strasser, 1938. Some taxonomic relationships among Typhloiulus species and biogeographical aspects (with distribution maps) of the genus are discussed.

RESUMEN

A new millipede species, Dalmatosoma agaricum gen. et sp. nov., is described from a cave in Dalmatia (Croatia). The new taxon is clearly unique among chordeumatidans in both anterior and posterior gonopod structure and shows some noteworthy habitus features. We therefore here establish a new monotypic family, viz., Dalmatosomatidae, for the given taxon and place it within the suborder Craspedosomatidea. The new family is briefly discussed and compared with all other chordeumatidans.

RESUMEN

A revision of the julid genus Hylopachyiulus Attems, 1904 is given, and lectotypes and paralectotypes are respectively designated for the species H. corylorum (Verhoeff, 1907) and H. pygmaeus (Attems, 1904). We confirm the validity of H. pygmaeus and synonymize H. likanus Attems, 1926 syn. nov. under H. corylorum which is resurrected. Additonally, a third species is described from Croatia-H. ocellatus sp. nov.. Considerations on the taxonomic relationships in the tribe Pachyiulini and within the genus Hylopachyiulus are presented, and the distribution of its species is illustrated and discussed.

RESUMEN

We describe a new species of an amphipod Niphargus zagorae sp. n. and redescribe its nearest relative and morphologically similar species N. boskovici S. Karaman, 1952. We present the geographic distributions of both species, morphological diagnoses and infer their phylogenetic position within the genus based on COI, 28S and H3 markers.

RESUMEN

Three new species of the family Anthogonidae are described from caves in Croatia and Montenegro, respectively: Egonpretneria vudutschajldi Antic & Drazina sp. n., Haasia jalzici Antic & Drazina sp. n., and Macrochaetosoma bertiscea Antic & Makarov sp. n. All three subfamilies within Anthogonidae are diagnosed, with brief discussion of relationships between genera and notes on their biogeography. A map of the global distribution of Anthogonidae is presented, as well as maps of the distribution of each species of Balkan anthogonids, including numerous new locality data. The first SEM images are provided for some representatives of this family. A key is given to all seven anthogonid genera. The subfamily Haasiinae Hoffman, 1980 is a new synonym of Anthogonidae, syn. n., while Macrochaetosoma bifurcatum Curcic & Makarov, 2001 becomes a new synonym for M. troglomontanum Absolon & Lang, 1933, syn. n..

RESUMEN

A new species of Heterolatzelia Verhoeff, 1897, H. karlstrasseri sp. n., is described from the Datlo Cave in east Herzegovina. A brief discussion about the relationship between H. karlstrasseri sp. n. and H. durmitorensis Gulicka, 1968 and a distribution map of the family Heterolatzeliidae are presented.

RESUMEN

Three new monotypic genera are described from underground habitats in Croatia: Balkanodesmus biokovensis gen. n., sp. n., Solentanodesmus insularis gen. n., sp. n. and Velebitodesmus cavernicolus gen. n., sp. n. In all three new genera the prefemoral part of the gonopods is orientated transversely to the main body axis, and all three new genera possess numerous metatergal setae arranged in a few transverse irregular rows, a condition observed in several European trichopolydesmids. These three new genera are very close to the genus Verhoeffodesmus. A distribution map and a brief discussion about the relationship with congeners are provided.
