RESUMEN

The frenum is a mucous membrane fold that connects the lip and cheek to the gingiva, periosteum, and alveolar mucosa. When the frena are linked too closely to the gingival border, there may be issues with plaque removal, and the overall gingiva may be affected. In addition, the maxillary frenum may provide aesthetic difficulties or interfere with the aesthetic outcome in cases of midline diastema, which may result in a recurrence after treatment. A labial frenectomy, a frequently performed surgical operation in the specialty of dentistry, is used to address such an abnormal frenum. This article describes a case study of a maxillary labial frenectomy using a traditional scalpel approach and topical application of ozonated olive oil.

Periodontal disease, characterized by inflammation and infection of the supporting structures of teeth, presents a significant challenge in dentistry and public health. Current treatment modalities, while effective to some extent, have limitations in achieving comprehensive periodontal tissue regeneration. This comprehensive review explores the potential of stem cell therapy in advancing the field of periodontal regeneration. Stem cells, including mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), hold promise due to their immunomodulatory effects, differentiation potential into periodontal tissues, and paracrine actions. Preclinical studies using various animal models have revealed encouraging outcomes, though standardization and long-term assessment remain challenges. Clinical trials and case studies demonstrate the safety and efficacy of stem cell therapy in real-world applications, especially in personalized regenerative medicine. Patient selection criteria, ethical considerations, and standardized treatment protocols are vital for successful clinical implementation. Stem cell therapy is poised to revolutionize periodontal regeneration, offering more effective, patient-tailored treatments while addressing the systemic health implications of periodontal disease. This transformative approach holds the potential to significantly impact clinical practice and improve the overall well-being of individuals affected by this prevalent oral health concern. Responsible regulatory compliance and a focus on ethical considerations will be essential as stem cell therapy evolves in periodontal regeneration.

Background: The present study was carried out to assess the awareness of the adverse consequences of tobacco use in the semi-urban school population in Wardha district because tobacco use in schools is a significant concern and is rising at an alarming rate. The purpose of the current study was to assess the prevalence of tobacco use among students and teachers as well as their knowledge of the negative effects of tobacco use. It also aimed to educate students and teachers about these effects and assess the effectiveness of the intervention. Methodology: A total of 350 students from a semi-urban school in the Wardha area participated in this study. Pre-tests were administered to a group of chosen kids and instructors to gauge their familiarity with tobacco. After the pre-test data were analyzed, teachers were offered intervention. PowerPoint presentations, posters, and models were used to educate them about the dangers of tobacco usage for dental health. There were discussions, role plays, and skits done. After the instruction, the students took a post-test to gauge how well they understood what they had learned. Results: The recent study is a significant step toward the semi-urban school population quitting smoking. Overall, the study involves testing participants' knowledge, teaching them about tobacco's negative consequences, and inspiring habitual smokers to completely kick the habit. The majority of the NTCP questionnaire's elements were significant when compared to knowledge of tobacco use and its components (*p0.05; significant). Conclusion: The suggested study is a significant step toward the semi-urban school population quitting smoking. The research will provide a genuine and dependable change and help promote optimal dental health.

Till now, oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is graded as well-differentiated, moderately-differentiated, poorly-differentiated, and undifferentiated. However, this grading does not have a prediction of the prognosis of the patient. Also, prognosis impacts lymph node metastases, surgical margins, and vascular invasions (neural invasion, muscular invasion, salivary gland invasion). The prognosis of lymph node metastases is significant, which affects the survival of the patients which is 50%. So, a dependable blood marker is needed for prognosis in OSCC patients with loco-regional and distant recurrence. Some factors can be assisted only after surgery and invasive techniques to check the prognosis of the disease. Despite the ease of examining the oral cavity, there is no practical approach for non-invasive screening and detecting cancer. As it is abrupt to use such invasive procedures from time to time, there is a need for nonsurgical and reliable techniques to assess the progression of tumors. Also, frozen sections are helpful during the intraoperative procedure to evaluate the lymph node metastases. An increase in the number of tumor cells through blood is a significant event in disease metastases toward the peripheral blood. Oral health impact assessment instruments could aid in determining the quality of life, and their usage in the initial stages of oral carcinoma could help physicians choose the best treatment option for enhancing the quality of life.

The nanosciences have recently emerged as a transformative force in dentistry and periodontics, offering fresh strategies to further the development of dental care. This paper provides a concise summary of the effect of nanoparticles, their categorisation, several methods of action, and various dental uses. This review discusses the properties of nanoparticles that lend to their use in dentistry and traces the history of the growth and advancement of nanotechnology in this area, nanomaterials' role in improving dental restorations' durability, aesthetics, and overall dental health by drawing on particular examples from restorative dentistry, prosthodontics, cosmetic dentistry, and general dentistry. In addition, the advancement of nanosciences has made periodontal regeneration easier, which has resulted in more accurate forecasting of its effects. Issues relating to safety, finances, and regulations imposed by the government have been fixed. It is encouraged that research be conducted into the full potential of nanosciences in dentistry and periodontics as a method of realising the field's bright future. Applications of nanotechnology in dentistry and periodontics can be broadly discussed under the prevention, detection, and treatment modalities.

A thorough understanding of basic sciences and health care is necessary for periodontology. To ensure that the dentition has adequate form, function, esthetics, and comfort, it is essential to have a thorough understanding of the relationship between periodontal tissues and how it relates to other branches of dentistry, such as restorative dentistry, orthodontics, prosthodontics, and implants. The periodontal ligament is a soft tissue between the alveolar bone and teeth. Since the alveolar bone is the foundation for successful dental treatment, proceeding with subsequent dental procedures, including restorative dentistry, implants, and prosthetic uses, is only possible with sufficient bone support. The current review article aims to assess the perception of undergraduate students regarding periodontics and its range of practice. It also gives a general overview of the field of periodontology by outlining current practices, exploring how students perceive this branch's range of courses, and emphasizing more recent and sophisticated developments.

Maxillofacial reconstructive implants are typically created in standard shapes and have a widespread application in head and neck surgery. During surgical procedures, the implant must be correctly bent according to the architecture of the particular bones. Bending takes practice, especially for untrained surgeons. Furthermore, repeated bending may increase internal stress, resulting in fatigue in vivo under masticatory loading and an array of consequences, including implant failure. There is a risk of fracture, screw loosening, and bone resorption. Resorption, infection, and displacement are usually associated with the use of premade alloplastic implants and autogenous grafts. Recent technological breakthroughs have led to the use of patient-specific implants (PSIs) developed by computer-designed additive manufacturing in reconstructive surgery. The use of computer-designed three-dimensional (3D)-printed PSI allows for more precise restoration of maxillofacial deformities, avoiding the common difficulties associated with premade implants and increasing patient satisfaction. Additive manufacturing is something that refers to a group of additive manufacturing methods. This technique has been quickly used in a variety of surgical procedures. The exponential expansion of this technology can be attributed to its enormous surgical value. Adding 3D printing to a medical practice can be a rewarding experience with stunning results.

Pulpectomy has always been a treatment choice when irreversible damage to the pulpal and periapical tissues occurs, but in a pediatric patient, expecting cooperation and adequate chair side time is a huge task as they fear the dentists and the instruments. Hence, it was required that there come an advanced treatment protocol that helps overcome the drawbacks of the existing treatment modality. A new therapeutic strategy called lesion sterilization and tissue repair (LSTR) is revolutionizing how dental lesions are treated today. Through a non-invasive antimicrobial treatment, this cutting-edge method seeks to halt the spread of carious lesions while encouraging tissue repair and regeneration. In LSTR, the infected tooth tissues are treated directly with a special antimicrobial combination of antibiotics, reducing agents, and disinfectants. Through the elimination of the microorganisms that cause dental decay and the creation of an environment that is favorable for natural tissue healing, this intervention targets the microbial etiology. This article mainly focuses on using antibiotics as a treatment modality in a tooth affected by caries and where the pulp and periradicular tissues are irreversibly inflamed. Pulpectomy has always been the most practiced technique, but in children, due to the lack of cooperation during the treatment and harm to the underlying developing tooth bud, a less invasive protocol had to be used, which is LSTR. This review delves into the basic ideas, techniques, and clinical applications of lesion sterilization and tissue restoration to look at its various aspects. This review clarifies the effectiveness and safety of LSTR in controlling diverse dental diseases, ranging from early-stage caries to deep dentin infections, by critically assessing previous study findings. It also emphasizes LSTR's ability to preserve vital tooth pulp, obviating the need for invasive and frequently uncomfortable endodontic operations. The review advocates for integrating LSTR into contemporary dental practices, showcasing its potential to transform the landscape of oral healthcare. Studies on Sturge-Weber syndrome (SWS) have already focused on various medical aspects of this syndrome. This review is focusing on the psychological aspects of Sturge-Weber syndrome patients, the behaviors of patients, and the effects of the disease on the children. This disorder is characterized by angiomas, glaucoma, and seizures with a birthmark. Patients with this syndrome have behavioral problems, a lack of social skills, and a lack of intellectual or academic skills. These patients are usually introverted because of a lack of warmth and limited communication. Friends or classmates tease them by calling them "ugly." All this leads to a lack of social skills, and they mostly keep their feelings to themselves and prefer to be alone. Because of all this mocking by classmates, they keep isolating themselves. All this causes psychological problems in children. They start behaving differently, have suicidal tendencies, and fight with their friends who bully them. Psychological problems are mostly seen in children who are lacking in intelligence and functioning and who have seizure disorders, mostly in those who have frequent seizures. Problems like anxiety, depression, mood changes, anger, and violence are also observed in these patients. All this is always ignored by the parents as well as the doctors. This review aims to focus on the psychological aspect of the patients with SWS, to inform the parents about the behavior of their children with SWS, and to pay more attention to the psychological problems. This review is focusing on the importance of the psychological behavior of patients with SWS, how to diagnose it at an early stage, and how to treat and take care of children with SWS.

Various recent materials in materials science are in working order, meaning they must achieve their tasks and should go through intentional modification. Smart materials change one or more of their characteristics in response to inputs. They can be called as responsive materials. As these materials have been available for so long, they are used for a wide range of purposes. These qualities have useful applications in many different industries, including dentistry. Zirconia, shape-memory alloys, and SmartSeal obturation system (Prosmart-DRFP Ltd., Stamford, United Kingdom) are a few examples of dental materials with intelligent behavior. The creation of novel materials is a major trend in materials science. These materials might make it possible to develop cutting-edge dental therapies with vastly improved clinical results. This article reviews the following: nickel-titanium smart alloy, smart composites, self-healing composites, smart ceramics, glass ionomer cement as a smart material, SmartSeal obturation system, and smart coatings for dental implants. We can better understand these biosmart materials with the aid of this review. The development of these newer and superior smart materials makes the outcome of the treatment far better for both the operator and the patient.

Wilckodontics is the periodontally accelerated orthodontic treatment, which is a clinical procedure that combines orthodontic tooth movement with corticotomy and bone grafting. Corticotomy is the surgical procedure that involves cutting the bone, perforating the bone and mechanically altering it. This procedure makes tooth movement easy and rapid with the help of orthodontic force application. This procedure is based on the regional acceleratory phenomenon that increases the bone width, shortens the treatment time from years to months and increases the treatment stability. This procedure also reduces the need for extraction and also increases bone support for teeth and soft tissues. This review article describes the surgical procedure, advantages, disadvantages, indications, and contraindications of Wilckodontics and the current advances in this technique.

The aim of this literature review was to compile and present information on the use of mobile dental vans (MDVs) in India and to figure out if the use of these vans can be used to eliminate the barriers that prevent Indian people from getting access to quality and affordable dental care. Since the working of an MDV is quite complex, this article also serves to summarize the information available in the existing literature in a much simpler yet elaborate manner. An electronic database search was done using relevant keywords such as MDVs, mobile health units, dental vans, mobile dentistry, and portable dentistry on search engines PubMed, Scopus, and Medline. After removing the irrelevant and duplicate articles, 30 were shortlisted and reviewed. It is a difficult task to provide access to affordable dental care to every person in a country like India, which has such a large population and a large number of people living in rural areas. People who live in rural areas and/or belong to a lower socioeconomic class are more susceptible to oral diseases. Lower economic status, geographical location, motivational barriers, lack of public transportation, etc., deter people from receiving adequate dental care. MDVs are vehicles that can work as independent, efficient operatories to provide dental care and act as an adjunct as well as an alternative to conventional methods of improving the oral health of the community. The global impact of MDVs, coupled with efficient and organized implementation, can make them an instrumental tool for the good. The various barriers to providing dental care to the underserved groups of the population can be easily overcome through this powerful tool.

These materials are specifically designed to interact effectively with the fluids found in the oral cavity, including saliva and gingival crevicular fluids. The search for the optimum restorative material results in the development of a more recent generation of dental materials known as smart materials. Smart materials react to stimuli, including stress, temperature, moisture, pH, electric field, and magnetic field, in a regulated way. Some of them are biomimetic and can imitate the dentin and enamel seen in natural teeth. These resources herald the start of a new era in dentistry known as "Smart Dentistry," and they project a promising future in terms of improved dependability and efficiency. These types of diverse materials can pick up and perform definite functionalities regarding adjustments in the nearby surroundings. Based on their capacity for recognition, analysis, and discrimination, these materials might be able to foresee problems in the near future. The superior biocompatibilities of smart materials, which have brought about a new generation of biosmart dentistry, are a crucial component of their utilization in numerous dental applications. We should use any material with intelligence as we progress in innovation and advanced technology. Additionally, we should purposefully incorporate intelligence into existing materials through design. Smart materials have proven advantageous in the field of dentistry, particularly in restorative applications. Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is the most prevalent condition seen in reproductive-aged women, which has a negative impact on their health system. There is a serious concern for women having PCOS that they may experience long-term metabolic conditions. PCOS also has a negative impact on periodontium components such as gingiva, periodontal ligament (PDL), and alveolar bone. It has been said that there may be a bidirectional link between PCOS and periodontal diseases. Moreover, PCOS and periodontal disorders both have common risk factors. Periodontal diseases are exacerbated by systemic low-grade inflammation, including obesity, constant immunological imbalance, and oxidative stress caused by PCOS. On the other hand, periodontal diseases can also increase the risk of causing PCOS. According to recent data, women with PCOS may be more likely to suffer from periodontal diseases. A PubMed and Google Scholar search was conducted for literature relating to PCOS and its relationship with different comorbidities which also included periodontal disorders. Analyses were performed, and data was synthesized and assembled in a presentable form. Therefore, the focus of this review will be on the relationship between PCOS and periodontal disorders, as well as the risk factors for both. However, in order to establish a more distinct and solid link, more studies with a large sample size need to be done.

An oral fibroma is a benign scar-like reaction frequently resulting from chronic mouth irritation. It is also called an oral polyp, fibrous nodule, localised intraoral fibrous hyperplasia, and traumatic fibroma. Chronic irritation from things like biting one's lips or cheek, orthodontic treatments, rubbing against a hard tooth, or wearing dentures or other dental prostheses is frequently the cause. It is often the same colour as the surrounding mouth lining, but occasionally, it can be paler or appear darker if it has bled. Trauma can cause the surface to become rough and scaly or ulcerated. It is primarily dome-shaped and similar to a pedunculated polyp. A traumatic fibroma most frequently occurs on the inside of the cheek. The inside of the lower lip, the gingiva, and the sides of the tongue are other frequent locations. The given case series reported traumatic fibroma associated with anterior teeth and buccal mucosa treated with a conventional scalpel and diode laser techniques, respectively. Diagnosing and treating the aetiology and educating the patient about the same is essential in fibroma cases. The clinical features of both claims and mere aetiology confirmed the diagnosis. The sole option available when therapy is needed is a surgical fibroma excision. Surgical excision is the most popular method for treating oral or traumatic fibromas. Two ways are available for the surgical removal of an oral fibroma: with a scalpel or using a diode laser. Both case presentations demonstrate that surgical excision with a scalpel and diode laser was discovered to be a simple, efficient, and affordable method for treating traumatic fibroma in this report, which presents two traumatic fibromas with different locations with varying aetiology. Traumatic fibromas reported here were in the aesthetic zones, which need to be treated as they can cause traumatic occlusion and difficulty chewing and speech. The patients reviewed for the next three months revealed complete satisfactory healing and no recurrence in both cases.

Aim This research aimed to assess and compare the postoperative sensitivity in class V cavity when restored with Cention-N and resin-modified glass ionomer cement (RMGIC). This study used the Schiff scale to assess sensitivity in the class V cavity. Materials and methods This was an in vivo study performed in the Department of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics, Sharad Pawar Dental College and Hospital, Sawangi Meghe, Maharashtra. Patients included in this study were randomly selected from regular outpatient departments diagnosed with class V cavities and referred for restorative treatment. These patients were segregated into Group A and Group B. Demographic information, detailed history of any medical condition, dental history, any allergy related to resins, and another group of drugs were recorded. The in vivo study involved 36 patients, 18 in each group, who presented at Sharad Pawar Dental College and Hospital. Inform consent was taken from all patients. The subjects' responses were evaluated using a Schiff analog scale to assess postoperative sensitivity to an air blast stimulus. Results The study included all 36 patients aged between 18 and 40 years. All 36 patients were segregated into two distinct groups. Two groups of 18 patients in each group were restored with Cention-N and RMGIC in groups A and B, respectively. It was determined that RMGIC exhibits a relatively higher incidence of postoperative sensitivity than Cention-N. It was determined that the difference was statistically relevant. Conclusion Considering the limitations of this study, it can be concluded that RMGIC shows more postoperative sensitivity than other groups on the first, second, and seventh days. Thus, it is concluded that Cention-N can be a superior alternative to RMGIC.
