RESUMEN

Spindle cell sarcoma (SCS) is rare in clinical practice. The objective of this study was to establish nomograms to predict the OS and CSS prognosis of patients with SCS based on the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database. The data of patients with SCS between 2004 and 2020 were extracted from the SEER database and randomly allocated to a training cohort and a validation cohort. Univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses were used to screen for independent risk factors for both overall survival (OS) and cancer-specific survival (CSS). Nomograms for OS and CSS were established for patients with SCS based on the results of multivariate Cox analysis. Then, we validated the nomograms by the concordance index (C-index), receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves, calibration curves, and decision curve analysis (DCA). Finally, Kaplan‒Meier curves and log-rank tests were applied to compare patients with SCS at three different levels and in different treatment groups. A total of 1369 patients with SCS were included and randomly allocated to a training cohort (n = 1008, 70%) and a validation cohort (n = 430, 30%). Age, stage, grade, tumour location, surgery, radiation and diagnosis year were found to be independent prognostic factors for OS by Cox regression analysis, while age, stage, grade, tumour location and surgery were found to be independent prognostic factors for CSS. The nomogram models were established based on the results of multivariate Cox analysis for both OS and CSS. The C-indices of the OS model were 0.76 and 0.77 in the training and validation groups, respectively, while they were 0.76 and 0.78 for CSS, respectively. For OS, the 3- and 5-year AUCs were 0.801 and 0.798, respectively, in the training cohort and 0.827 and 0.799, respectively, in the validation cohort; for CSS, they were 0.809 and 0.786, respectively, in the training cohort and 0.831 and 0.801, respectively, in the validation cohort. Calibration curves revealed high consistency in both OS and CSS between the observed survival and the predicted survival. In addition, DCA was used to analyse the clinical practicality of the OS and CSS nomogram models and revealed that they had good net benefits. Surgery remains the main treatment method for SCS patients. The two nomograms we established are expected to accurately predict the personalized prognosis of SCS patients and may be useful for clinical decision-making.

RESUMEN

A 68-year-old male patient came to the orthopedics department because of swelling and pain in his left shoulder joint. He received more than 15 intraarticular steroid injections in the shoulder joint at a local private hospital. MRI showed that the synovial membrane of the joint capsule was thickened and swollen, and there were extensive "rice body-like" low T2 signal shadows filling. Arthroscopic removal of rice bodies and subtotal bursectomy were performed. The observation channel was placed through the posterior approach, and a large amount of rice bodies in yellow bursa fluid were observed to flow out. Rice bodies with a diameter of approximately 1-5 mm filled the joint cavity were seen in the observation channel. The histopathological examination of the rice body showed that it was mainly composed of fibrin without a clear tissue structure. Bacterial and fungal cultures of synovial fluid suggested Candida parapsilosis infection, so the patient received antifungal treatment. However, the shoulder swelled again after three weeks, MRI revealed that there was significant fluid accumulation in the subacromial-subdeltoid region with necrotic synovial tissue floating and ultrasound examination showed joint cavity effusion, synovial hyperplasia, and some synovium looked like "floating weeds". After 2 weeks, there were recurrent rice bodies in the articular cavity. Arthroscopic surgery was performed again to clean the joint and a catheter was placed for irrigation and drainage, and a large amount of necrotic synovial tissue floating as seen in ultrasound. Finally, patient received sensitive antifungal treatment and did not relapse within 6 months. During the recurrence in the current case, we recorded the process of rice body formation, which has for the first time been reported.

RESUMEN

Get in-depth understanding of each part of visual pathway yields insights to conquer the challenges that classic computer vision is facing. Here, we first report the bioinspired striate cortex with binocular and orientation selective receptive field based on the crossbar array of self-powered memristors which is solution-processed monolithic all-perovskite system with each cross-point containing one CsFAPbI3 solar cell directly stacking on the CsPbBr2I memristor. The plasticity of self-powered memristor can be modulated by optical stimuli following triplet-STDP rules. Furthermore, plasticity of 3 × 3 flexible crossbar array of self-powered memristors has been successfully modulated based on generalized BCM learning rule for optical-encoded pattern recognition. Finally, we implemented artificial striate cortex with binocularity and orientation selectivity based on two simulated 9 × 9 self-powered memristors networks. The emulation of striate cortex with binocular and orientation selectivity will facilitate the brisk edge and corner detection for machine vision in the future applications.

RESUMEN

Imprinting vision as memory is a core attribute of human cognitive learning. Fundamental to artificial intelligence systems are bioinspired neuromorphic vision components for the visible and invisible segments of the electromagnetic spectrum. Realization of a single imaging unit with a combination of in-built memory and signal processing capability is imperative to deploy efficient brain-like vision systems. However, the lack of a platform that can be fully controlled by light without the need to apply alternating polarity electric signals has hampered this technological advance. Here, a neuromorphic imaging element based on a fully light-modulated 2D semiconductor in a simple reconfigurable phototransistor structure is presented. This standalone device exhibits inherent characteristics that enable neuromorphic image pre-processing and recognition. Fundamentally, the unique photoresponse induced by oxidation-related defects in 2D black phosphorus (BP) is exploited to achieve visual memory, wavelength-selective multibit programming, and erasing functions, which allow in-pixel image pre-processing. Furthermore, all-optically driven neuromorphic computation is demonstrated by machine learning to classify numbers and recognize images with an accuracy of over 90%. The devices provide a promising approach toward neurorobotics, human-machine interaction technologies, and scalable bionic systems with visual data storage/buffering and processing.

RESUMEN

The close replication of synaptic functions is an important objective for achieving a highly realistic memristor-based cognitive computation. The emulation of neurobiological learning rules may allow the development of neuromorphic systems that continuously learn without supervision. In this work, the Bienenstock-Cooper-Munro learning rule, as a typical case of spike-rate-dependent plasticity, is mimicked using a generalized triplet-spike-timing-dependent plasticity scheme in a WO3-x memristive synapse. It demonstrates both presynaptic and postsynaptic activities and remedies the absence of the enhanced depression effect in the depression region, allowing a better description of the biological counterpart. The threshold sliding effect of Bienenstock-Cooper-Munro rule is realized using a history-dependent property of the second-order memristor. Rate-based orientation selectivity is demonstrated in a simulated feedforward memristive network with this generalized Bienenstock-Cooper-Munro framework. These findings provide a feasible approach for mimicking Bienenstock-Cooper-Munro learning rules in memristors, and support the applications of spatiotemporal coding and learning using memristive networks.

RESUMEN

Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) play an important role in nutrient cycling processes and plant stress resistance. To evaluate the effect of Rhizophagus irregularis CD1 on plant growth promotion (PGP) and Verticillium wilt disease, the symbiotic efficiency of AMF (SEA) was first investigated over a range of 3% to 94% in 17 cotton varieties. The high-SEA subgroup had significant PGP effects in a greenhouse. From these results, the highest-SEA variety of Lumian 1 was selected for a two-year field assay. Consistent with the performance from the greenhouse, the AMF-mediated PGP of Lumian 1 also produced significant results, including an increased plant height, stem diameter, number of petioles, and phosphorus content. Compared with the mock treatment, AMF colonization obviously inhibited the symptom development of Verticillium dahliae and more strongly elevated the expression of pathogenesis-related genes and lignin synthesis-related genes. These results suggest that AMF colonization could lead to the mycorrhiza-induced resistance (MIR) of Lumian 1 to V. dahliae. Interestingly, our results indicated that the AMF endosymbiont could directly inhibit the growth of phytopathogenic fungi including V. dahliae by releasing undefined volatiles. In summary, our results suggest that stronger effects of AMF application result from the high-SEA.

RESUMEN

In order to deal with the problem of projection occurring in fall detection with two-dimensional (2D) grey or color images, this paper proposed a robust fall detection method based on spatio-temporal context tracking over three-dimensional (3D) depth images that are captured by the Kinect sensor. In the pre-processing procedure, the parameters of the Single-Gauss-Model (SGM) are estimated and the coefficients of the floor plane equation are extracted from the background images. Once human subject appears in the scene, the silhouette is extracted by SGM and the foreground coefficient of ellipses is used to determine the head position. The dense spatio-temporal context (STC) algorithm is then applied to track the head position and the distance from the head to floor plane is calculated in every following frame of the depth image. When the distance is lower than an adaptive threshold, the centroid height of the human will be used as the second judgment criteria to decide whether a fall incident happened. Lastly, four groups of experiments with different falling directions are performed. Experimental results show that the proposed method can detect fall incidents that occurred in different orientations, and they only need a low computation complexity.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To observe the effects of Qufengtongluo Recipe (QFTLR) on the expression of podocin mRNA and podocyte morphology in rats with adriamycin-induced nephropathy (AN), and explore the possible mechanism mediating the therapeutic effect of QFTLR on nephropathic proteinuria. METHODS: SD rats were randomized into normal control group, AN model group (established by a single injection of adriamycin via the tail vein), and 3 intervention groups with QFTLR, prednisone, or benazepril treatment. After the corresponding treatments, the expression of podocin mRNA in the renal tissues was detected by RT-PCR methods, and the morphological changes of the podocytes were examined by electron microscope. RESULTS: Compared with the normal control group, the AN model group showed significantly lowered expressions of podocin mRNA (P<0.01) with reduced podocytes and widening, fusion or even absence of the foot processes (FP). Intervention with QFTLR significantly increased the expression of podocin mRNA (P<0.01) and the number of podocytes, and obviously lessened the structural changes of the FP. CONCLUSION: QFTLR can produce therapeutic effect against nephropathic proteinuria possibly by up-regulating the expression of podocin mRNA and improving the morphological changes of the podocytes.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To assess the therapeutic effect of Qufengtongluo (QFTL) recipe against proteinuria and glomerular filtration membrane damage in rats with adriamycin-induced nephropathy (AN). METHODS: Fifty-six SD rats were randomized into normal control (A) and AN model groups. In the AN model group, the rat AN models established by a single intravenous injection of adriamycin via the tail vein were subdivided into model (B), QFTL recipe (C), prednisone (D), and benazepril (E) groups 3 weeks after adriamycin injection. The 24-h urinary protein level was measured and the expression of anionic sites on the filtration membrane was evaluated using electron microscope with PEI staining. Nephrin expression on the glomerular filtration membrane was detected with indirect immunofluorescence assay. RESULTS: Compared with group A, the model group showed significantly increased level of 24-h urinary protein (P<0.01), suggesting successful establishment of the AN model. Treatment with QFTL recipe obviously lowered the 24-h urinary protein (P<0.01), and increased the expression of anionic sites and nephrin on the glomerular filtration membrane in the AN rats (P<0.01). CONCLUSION: QFTL recipe can effectively decrease 24-h urinary protein, improve the symptoms, and up-regulate the expressions of anionic sites and nephrin on the glomerular filtration membrane in rats with AN.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the expression of HSPG in glomerular base membrane of adriamycin-induced nephropathy (AN) rats, and the effect of Qufengtongluo recipe on HSPG mRNA expression and proteinuria in AN rats. METHODS: One hundred forty rats were used in this study, including 32 rats in normal control group. AN was induced in the left rats by a single tail intravenous injection of adriamycin. Three weeks later, 90 AN rats were randomly divided into five groups; the nephropathy group (B, n=18), the Qufeng group (C, n=18), Qufeng and prednisone group (D, n=18), prednisone group(E,n=18) and benazepri group (F, n= 18). The rats in these five groups were treated with different combination of Qufeng recipe and prednisone. In each group, renal tissue samples were collected at week 3 and 7. The distribution, expression of HSPG was examined by indirect immunofluorescence, and semi-quantity RT-PCR, respectively. RESULTS: (1) In AN rats, the diffuse fusion and effacement of foot processes were observed when model established. (2) Compared with nephropathy group, the average fluorescence intensity of HSPG dramatically increased in Qufeng group and prednisone group (P < 0.01), similarly, it also increased in D and F groups (P < 0.01). (3) Compared with nephropathy group, the expression of HSPG mRNA was significantly up-regulated in other groups. (P < 0.01), especially in C and F groups. There was significant negative correlation between the expression of HSPG and quantity of 24-hour proteinuria. CONCLUSION: The abnormal expression of HSPG and their altered distributions may be an important molecular mechanism that leads to the occurrence and development of proteinuria in AN rats. The effect of Qufengtongluo recipe on nephrotic syndrome might be related to the alteration of HSPG expression and distribution in glomerulus.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the expression of nephrin mRNA in adriamycin-induced nephropathy (AN) in rats, and to explore the effect of Qufengtongluo recipe on proteinuria in AN rats and on the expression of nephrin mRNA. METHODS: Adriamycin nephropathy was induced by a single tail intravenous injection of adriamycin. We randomly divided 140 rats into a normal control group (n=32) and a nephropathy model group (n=108). Three weeks later, 90 AN rats were randomly divided into 5 groups: a model group, a qufeng group, a qufeng and prednisone group, a prednisone group, and a benazepri group (18 rats in each group). They were treated respectively, and renal tissue samples were collected at week 0, 3, 5, and 7, respectively. The distribution and expression of nephrin mRNA were examined by indirect immunofluorescence and semi-quantity RT-PCR. RESULTS: In the AN rats, the diffuse fusion and effacement of foot processes were observed at week 3. The fluorescence intensity of nephrin and the expression of nephrin mRNA significantly increased in the qufeng group and the prednisone group compared with the model group at the week 7 (P<0.01). CONCLUSION: Abnormal expression of nephrin is the important molecular mechanism that leads to the occurrence and development of proteinuria in AN rats. Qufengtongluo recipe has effect on nephrotic syndrome through altering the expression and distribution of nephrin in glomerulus.
