RESUMEN

A recent measure was developed to assess the Quality of Life (QoL) of young people with advanced cancer and is available for parents and professionals (Advance QoL). The present study aimed to elaborate self-reported versions for children and adolescents with advanced cancer. We adopted a four-phase research plan: (1) to elaborate the Advance QoL questionnaire for youth (8-12 and 13-18 years old) with a team of young research partners; (2) to evaluate the understandability of these versions in a sample of 12 young patients from the target population using cognitive interviews; (3) to assess social validity in the same group using a questionnaire and the content validity index (CVI); and (4) to refine the questionnaires according to these results. Four major themes were identified: (1) issues affecting the understanding of the tool; (2) issues that did not affect the understanding of the tool; (3) modifications to improve the tool; and (4) positive features of the tool. Advance QoL was well received, and feedback was positive. Adjustments were made according to young people's comments and two self-reported versions are now available. It is essential to measure the key domains of QoL in advanced cancer. Advance QoL self-report versions will help target the specific needs of young people with this condition and their families.

Pediatric Brain Tumor Survivors (PBTS) often experience social, academic and employment difficulties during aftercare. Despite their needs, they often do not use the services available to them. Following a previous qualitative study, we formulated solutions to help support PBTS return to daily activities after treatment completion. The present study aims to confirm and prioritize these solutions with a larger sample. We used a mixed-methods survey with 68 participants (43 survivors, 25 parents, PBTS' age: 15-39 years). Firstly, we collected information about health condition, and school/work experience in aftercare. Then, we asked participants to prioritize the previously identified solutions using Likert scales and open-ended questions. We used descriptive and inferential statistics to analyze data, and qualitative information to support participants' responses. Participants prioritized the need for evaluation, counseling, and follow-up by health professionals to better understand their post-treatment needs, obtain help to access adapted services, and receive information about resources at school/work. Responses to open-ended questions highlighted major challenges regarding the implementation of professionals' recommendations at school/work and the need for timely interventions. These results will help refine solutions for PBTS and provide key elements for future implementation. Translating these priorities into action will need further work involving professionals and decision makers.

INTRODUCTION: Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) is a poorly understood side effect of many antineoplastic agents. Patients may experience sensory, motor and autonomic symptoms, negatively impacting quality of life. A gold-standard assessment methodology has yet to be determined, limiting efforts to identify effective agents to prevent or treat CIPN. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: This is a protocol of a systematic review of psychometric analyses of CIPN Clinician Reported Outcome Measures (ClinROM) and Patient-Reported Outcome Measures (PROM) among adults receiving, or who had previously received chemotherapy for cancer. The COnsensus-based Standards for the selection of health Measurement INstruments (COSMIN) quality ratings will be compared across studies and across ClinROMs and PROMs. Studies reporting psychometric proprieties of CIPN ClinROMs and/or PROMs among adults aged ≥18 years will be eligible for inclusion, with no restriction on language or year of publication. MEDLINE, Embase, CINAHL and APA PsycINFO databases will be searched from inception to 31 December 2021. Study characteristics, measurement properties of the ClinROMs and/or PROMs and the CIPN definitions will be extracted. The Synthesis Without Meta-analysis guideline will be used to guide data synthesis. The COSMIN Risk of Bias checklist will be used by two independent raters to assess methodological quality. Subgroup analyses by age, chemotherapy type, and study timing in relation to the delivery of chemotherapy will be carried out where data are available. An adapted version of Outcome Measures in Rheumatology filter 2.1 will be used to provide a best-evidence synthesis of CIPN ClinROMs and PROMs and to recommend a CIPN assessment tool for clinical and research settings. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION: Ethical approval is not necessary to be obtained for this systematic review protocol. Results will be disseminated to clinicians and policy-makers by publication in a peer-reviewed journal and by presenting at relevant conferences. PROSPERO REGISTRATION NUMBER: CRD42021278168.

By 2025, 34 million people worldwide will be living with Alzheimer's disease or another form of dementia (i.e., neurocognitive disorders). Symptoms of neurocognitive disorders have functional repercussions on daily activities. People with neurocognitive disorders often rely on a caregiver to alleviate the impact of their symptoms, but this help has consequences for the caregiver. Indeed, caregivers report subjective burden, depressive symptoms, stress, anxiety and a lower quality of life than non-caregivers. Multiple cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) trials have been conducted to reduce these symptoms for caregivers. No meta-analysis has been conducted to evaluate the efficacy of this type of intervention on reducing subjective burden. Articles were selected from PsycNet, MEDLINE, AgeLine and ProQuest Dissertation and Theses for the period from 2000 to 2017. Article selection, data extraction and bias analysis for individual studies were completed by two independent authors who used a consensus procedure when discrepancies occurred. A total of 20 articles were included in the systematic review. Ten studies evaluated the efficacy of CBT in reducing subjective burden, and the meta-analysis suggested a significant reduction in subjective burden following CBT. Additionally, 17 studies evaluated the efficacy in reducing depressive symptoms, and the meta-analysis revealed a significant reduction for these caregivers following CBT. CBT for caregivers of individuals with a neurocognitive disorder had no impact on stress, anxiety, or quality of life.
