BACKGROUND: The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic has raised awareness of the importance of air quality. This pilot study arose from the need to reduce the concentration of particulate matter in the dental office during orthodontic procedures. To evaluate the efficacy of using an air purifier during orthodontic care in the dental office to reduce the concentration of ambient particulate matter. RESULTS: Significant reductions in particle numbers were obtained for all particle sizes except the largest particles counted (10 µm) through use of the air filter. A marked association between higher humidity levels and higher particle counts was also observed. CONCLUSIONS: Using an air purifier during dental care achieves a significant reduction in the concentration of ambient particles in the dental office. There is a correlation between higher relative humidity and higher particle concentration. The probability of obtaining a maximum particulate concentration level of 0.3 and 0.5 µm is 1000 times lower when using an air purifier.

OBJECTIVES: The aim of the present review was (1) to determine the effects of exercise based-interventions (EBIs) on pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory biomarkers in patients with fibromyalgia (FM), and (2) to determine the most effective type (acute or maintained) and modality (aerobic, resistance, etc.). METHODS: A systematic search was conducted in various electronic databases to identify all the relevant studies: Medline (PubMed), PEDro, EBSCO and Google Scholar. Clinical trials assessing the effects of EBIs in patients with FM were selected. Methodological quality was evaluated by two independent investigators using the Cochrane Risk of Bias Tool. Qualitative analysis was based on the classification of the results into levels of evidence according to GRADE. RESULTS: Eleven studies were included. The meta-analysis showed a statistically significant decrease in proinflammatory biomarkers by EBIs with a large clinical effect in 19 comparisons (SMD: 1.74; 95 % CI: 0.85-2.62; p < 0.05), especially for IL8. The certainty of the evidence was low. The meta-analysis showed no statistically significant increase in anti-inflammatory biomarkers (IL10) by EBIs in 6 comparisons and very low certainty of evidence. Evidence was found for acute and maintained effects of exercise, with aerobic and aquatic exercise modalities showing better improvements than resistance exercise. CONCLUSIONS: EBIs are effective in inducing an immunomodulatory response in FM, characterized by decreased pro-inflammatory signaling. However, there was no evidence of an increase in anti-inflammatory biomarkers. These results should be interpreted with caution due to low certainty of evidence.

Event cameras record sparse illumination changes with high temporal resolution and high dynamic range. Thanks to their sparse recording and low consumption, they are increasingly used in applications such as AR/VR and autonomous driving. Current top-performing methods often ignore specific event-data properties, leading to the development of generic but computationally expensive algorithms, while event-aware methods do not perform as well. We propose Event Transformer +, that improves our seminal work EvT with a refined patch-based event representation and a more robust backbone to achieve more accurate results, while still benefiting from event-data sparsity to increase its efficiency. Additionally, we show how our system can work with different data modalities and propose specific output heads, for event-stream classification (i.e. action recognition) and per-pixel predictions (dense depth estimation). Evaluation results show better performance to the state-of-the-art while requiring minimal computation resources, both on GPU and CPU.

BACKGROUND: The main aim of this study was to assess the effects of repetitive-transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) in patients with fibromyalgia (FMS). METHODS: We systematically searched PubMed, PEDro, EMBASE, and CINAHL. Methodological quality was analyzed using the AMSTAR and ROBIS scales, and the strength of evidence was established according to the guidelines advisory committee grading criteria. A total of 11 systematic reviews were included. The assessed variables were pain intensity, depressive symptoms, anxiety, and general health. RESULTS: Regarding pain intensity, it seems that high-frequency rTMS significantly reduces pain intensity at a 1-month follow-up when the primary motor cortex (M1) is stimulated. However, we cannot robustly conclude the same for low-frequency protocols. When we look at the combination of high and low-frequency rTMS, there seems to be a significant effect on pain intensity up to 1-week post-intervention, but after that point of follow-up, the results are controversial. Regarding depressive symptoms and anxiety, results showed that the effects of rTMS are almost non-existent. Finally, in regard to general health, results showed that rTMS caused significant post-intervention effects in a robust way. However, the results of the follow-ups are contradictory. CONCLUSIONS: The results obtained showed that high-frequency rTMS applied on the M1 showed some effect on the variable of pain intensity with a limited quality of evidence. Overall, rTMS was shown to be effective in improving general health with moderate quality of evidence. Finally, rTMS was not shown to be effective in managing depressive symptoms and anxiety with a limited to moderate quality of evidence. BACKGROUND: This study evaluates the particle dispersion involved in dental procedures carried out during orthodontic treatments. Variants such as temperature and relative humidity in the dental cabinet were considered. METHODS: Using a particle counter, a pilot study was conducted, in which 98 consecutive recordings were made during appointments of patients undergoing orthodontic treatments. Temperature, relative humidity and particles present at the beginning (AR) and during the appointment (BR) were recorded. A control record (CR) of temperature, relative humidity and particles present was made before the start of the clinical activity. In addition to conventional statistics, differential descriptive procedures were used to analyse results, and the influence of relative humidity on particle concentration was analysed by statistical modelling with regression equations. RESULTS: The number of particles present, regardless of their size, was much higher in AR than in CR (p < .001). The same was true for relative humidity and ambient temperature. The relationship between relative humidity and particle number was determined to be exponential. LIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY: The limitations are associated with sample size, environmental conditions of the room and lack of discrimination among the procedures performed. CONCLUSIONS: This pilot study shows that from the moment a patient enters a dental office, a large number of additional particles are generated. During treatment, the number of particles of 0.3 microns-which have a high capacity to penetrate the respiratory tract-increases. Moreover, a relationship between relative humidity and particle formation is observed. Further studies are needed.
