RESUMEN

This study investigates the relationships between nursing students' internet addiction levels, communication skills and difficulties in emotion regulation. This cross-sectional study included 463 nursing students who completed the Internet Addiction Scale (IAS), Communication Skills Scale (CSS) and Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale (DERS-16). Approximately half of the nursing students were risky internet users. A negative statistically significant was determined between from IAS and CSS; a positive statistically significant was determined between from IAS and DERS-16. It was found that internet addiction had an effect of 18.6 % (R2 = 0.186) on difficulty in emotion regulation and 0.27 % on communication skills (R2 = 0.027). The students who were in risky group in internet addiction had worse communication skills and higher levels of difficulties in emotion regulation.

RESUMEN

This study was carried out to determine the relationship between the spiritual orientation and psychological well-being levels of inpatients diagnosed with COVID-19 and the factors affecting the psychological well-being of patients. This cross-sectional study was conducted with 136 patients diagnosed with COVID-19 who were hospitalized in the COVID-19 clinics of a state hospital between May and July 2021 and volunteered to participate in the study. To collect the study data, the Personal Information Form, Spiritual Orientation Scale (SOS) and Psychological Well-Being Scale (PWBS) were used. There was a positive correlation between the mean scores obtained from the overall SOS and PWBS (r = .335, p < .001). Of the participants, those who were women, who were over 65-year-old patients, who were hospitalized for 8-14 days and who had chronic diseases had lower levels of psychological well-being. The inpatients with a diagnosis of COVID-19 had high levels of spirituality and psychological well-being. It was found that there is a relationship between the spiritual orientation and psychological well-being of inpatients hospitalized with the diagnosis of COVID-19. The fact that nurses take spirituality into account while providing care to patients diagnosed with COVID-19 may be effective in protecting their patients' mental health.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between social support levels and treatment compliance of individuals with schizophrenia. DESIGN AND METHODS: A descriptive and correlational research design was used in the study. The sample was not selected from the universe and the study was completed with 110 patients. FINDINGS: There was a significant positive correlation between the total score of family subscale and total score of the Morisky compliance scale (p < 0.05). Morisky adherence scale (p < 0.05), suggesting that family support can favor the treatment adherence of patients. PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS: Psychiatric professionals should carefully evaluate the family support perceived from the patients with schizophrenia to improve their adherence to treatment.

For 3 weeks, the patients in the experimental group received eight sessions of psychoeducation and music intervention. FINDINGS: The total mean Self-Efficacy Scale score of the participants in the experimental group significantly increased as compared with that of the control group. The experimental group's total mean Perceived Stress Scale score and relapse rate significantly decreased compared to that of the control group. PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS: Psychoeducation and music intervention effectively reduced stress, increased self-efficacy, and prevented relapses.

RESUMEN

AIMS: In Turkey and around the world, the elderly population continues to grow, and society's expectations of this group have increased. At the same time, different research fields and studies have increasingly considered the effects of religious orientation on ageing. In this study, we examine the relationship between depression and religious orientation in the elderly. METHODS: This descriptive study focused on determining the relationship between religious orientation and depression in the elderly. Data were collected by using a personal information form, the Religious Orientation Scale, and the 15-item Geriatric Depression Scale. Frequencies, percentages, means ± SD, Cronbach's α, and Pearson's correlation analysis were used to evaluate the data. RESULTS: More than half of the subjects (51.7%) were men, 61.9% were aged 65-74 years old, and 59.2% were married. For 35.2%, the highest level of education was primary school. Around half of the subjects perceived their income as moderate, and 57.4% received social security. With regard to depression, 72.5% of subjects were at risk, with the remaining 27.5% having no risk. There was a weak positive relationship between the mean ± SD scores on the Religious Orientation Scale (48.11 ± 6.36) and the 15-item Geriatric Depression Scale (8.23 ± 1.58; P < 0.01). CONCLUSION: This study found a relationship between religious orientation and a tendency towards depression in the elderly that increased with religious orientation.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: This study was conducted to examine the relationship between elective surgical patients' methods for coping with stress and sleeping status the night before an operation. DESIGN: This research was a descriptive and correlational study. METHODS: The study was conducted between November 2016 and February 2017 with 132 patients who were waiting to undergo elective surgery in the surgery clinics of a university hospital. The data were collected using a personal information form, the Richards-Campbell Sleep Questionnaire (RCSQ), and the Ways of Coping Inventory (WOC). FINDINGS: This study indicated that the mean RCSQ score of the male patients and patients who were hospitalized at a cardiology clinic and experienced no situation that interrupted sleep the night before the operation was higher, and the difference was statistically significant (P < .05). Patients obtained a mean score of 46.31 ± 32.21 on the RCSQ. A positive significant relationship was found between the mean scores of the self-confident approach, optimistic approach, and receiving social support, which are subscales of the WOC, and the total mean score on the RCSQ (P < .01). A negative significant relationship was found between the mean scores of the helpless approach and the submissive approach subscales of the WOC, and the total mean score on the RCSQ (P < .01). CONCLUSIONS: The results of this study showed that the approaches that the patients waiting for elective surgery used to cope with stress affected their nocturnal sleep status.

RESUMEN

AIM: The aim of this study is to determine the correlation between schizophrenic patients' level of internalized stigma and their level of hope. MATERIAL AND METHOD: The population of the study consisted of patients who had been diagnosed with schizophrenia and also met the study inclusion criteria. The study sample selection from the population was not further divided; the study was conducted with 76 patients. The data of the study were collected using a personal information form, the Internalized Stigma of Mental Illness (ISMI) Scale, and Herth Hope Scale. FINDINGS: The patients' mean score on the Internalized Stigma Scale was 72.78±16.05. Their score on the Hope Scale is 50.36±11.91. A significant negative correlation was found between the total mean scores of ISMI and the Herth Hope Scale (r=-0.360, p<0.01). A significant positive correlation was found between the stigma resistance subscale mean score of ISMI and the total mean score of the Herth Hope Scale (r=0.510, p<0.01). CONCLUSION: The internalized stigma levels of schizophrenic patients were found to be high, whereas their hope levels were found to be moderate. A significant negative correlation was found between internalized stigma and hope. This study also found a significant positive correlation between the stigma resistance of patients and their hope levels.

RESUMEN

The purpose of this study is to evaluate self-care agency and the factors affecting self-care agency in patients with psychiatric disorders. The population of the study comprised patients diagnosed with mental disorders at the clinics of psychiatry in Erzurum Regional Training and Research Hospital and Atatürk University Research Hospital. Patient information forms and the Self-Care Agency Scale were used to collect the study data. Psychiatric nurse collected the data from the patients face to face. This study determined that the average age of the patients was determined to be 32.19±1.11. The findings indicated that the mean self-care agency level of the patients was 79.3±23.2. It was also found that the differences between sex, educational status, socio-economic status, and self-care agency levels were statistically significant (p<0.05). In conclusion, the patients' self-care agency levels were determined to be mid-level. The findings suggest that people with mental disorders have difficulty identifying their need for self-care. Thus, periodic training programs are necessary to increase self-care levels and further research studies of this type should be done on larger groups.
