RESUMEN

Two patients with locally advanced gastric cancer are reported. Both patients underwent colonoscopy in preoperative period. Preoperative examination revealed synchronous colorectal cancer. Preoperative colonoscopy in patients with gastric cancer ensured timely diagnosis of synchronous colorectal cancer and adequate minimally invasive treatment with favorable results.

RESUMEN

In this article is described a rare postoperative complication: epiphrenal diverticulum of the esophagus of the lower third of the esophagus in patient after antireflux surgery. Brief description of the main stages of surgical treatment. 96 patients with cardiofundal, subtotal or total hiatal hernias underwent operation. There were complications of I-II degree according to Clavien-Dindo in the early postoperative period in 11 patients (11.4%). Complications of IIIb degree were revealed in 2 patients (2.1%) in the early postoperative period and in 1 patient (1.0%) in the late postoperative period (2 months after hospitalization) - epiphrenal diverticulum of the esophagus. Laparotomy, the sagittal diafragmalnaya, diverticulectomy, valisesta pyloroplasty were performed. Postoperative period without complications. The patient's nutrition through the mouth is restored on the 5-th day. No dysphagia and reflux esophagitis were detected radiologically and endoscopically.

RESUMEN

AIM: To analyze treatment of patients with reflux esophagitis and large hiatal hernia. MATERIAL AND METHODS: There were 85 patients with reflux esophagitis and large hiatal hernia. Laparoscopic repair was performed in 33 patients, laparotomy - in 52 cases. All patients underwent fundo- or gastroplication by A.F. Chernousov, correction of large defect of hiatal orifice by cruroraphy was applied in 55 (64.7%) patients. RESULTS: Postoperative morbidity was near 10% after laparoscopic and conventional surgery despite more difficult video-assisted endoscopic technique. Complications Clavien-Dindo grade I-II were noted in 4 (12.1%) patients after laparoscopic treatment and in 6 (11.5%) patients after laparotomy. Medication was effective in all cases. Two patients with subtotal hernias had complications Clavien-Dindo grade IIIB after endoscopic surgery: recurrent hiatal hernia followed by severe reflux esophagitis and dysphagia. These complications required redo surgery. Repair of hiatal orifice is always possible without mesh reinforcement. Posterior cruroraphy is feasible and effective in all patients. Incidence of intraoperative and postoperative complications is comparable in both approaches (p<0.05). Mean hospital-stay after laparotomy was 7.3 days, after laparoscopy - 5.8 days. CONCLUSION: Endoscopic formation of antireflux cuff by A.F. Chernousov is appropriate and effective in patients with reflux esophagitis and large/giant hiatal hernias.

RESUMEN

Photocontrolled organic field-effect transistors (OFETs) containing a hybrid compound of fullerene C60 (n-semiconductor) with spiropyran (electrical conductivity photocontroller) as the active layer were fabricated for the first time. It was found that an OFET based on the hybrid compound, unlike the multilayer transistor (a device based on unmodified fullerene C60 and spiropyran in different layers), has higher transfer characteristics (source-to-drain current), charge carrier mobility in the active layer, and response rate to external influence, which makes them promising materials for the manufacture of optical memory elements.

The fct L10-FeNi alloy is a promising candidate for the development of high performance critical-elements-free magnetic materials. Among the different materials, the Au-Cu-Ni alloy has resulted very promising; however, a detailed investigation of the effect of the buffer-layer composition on the formation of the hard FeNi phase is still missing. To accelerate the search of the best Au-Cu-Ni composition, a combinatorial approach based on High-Throughput (HT) experimental methods has been exploited in this paper. HT magnetic characterization methods revealed the presence of a hard magnetic phase with an out-of-plane easy-axis, whose coercivity increases from 0.49 kOe up to 1.30 kOe as the Au content of the Cu-Au-Ni buffer-layer decreases. Similarly, the out-of-plane magneto-crystalline anisotropy energy density increases from 0.12 to 0.35 MJ/m3. This anisotropy is attributed to the partial formation of the L10 FeNi phase induced by the buffer-layer. In the range of compositions we investigated, the buffer-layer structure does not change significantly and the modulation of the magnetic properties with the Au content in the combinatorial layer is mainly related to the different nature and extent of interlayer diffusion processes, which have a great impact on the formation and order degree of the L10 FeNi phase.

We present an approach to prepare free-standing tips of micrometer-long nanowires electrodeposited in anodic aluminum oxide nanopores. Such open tips can be further processed, e.g. for vertical interconnects of functional layers or for tailoring the magnetization reversal of ferromagnetic nanowires. The magnetic switching of nanowires is usually initiated by vortex or domain formation at the nanowire tips. We show that coating the tips of Fe30Co70 nanowires (diameter 40 nm, length 16 µm) with thin antiferromagnetic Fe50Mn50 capping layers (thickness ≈10 nm) leads to magnetic hardening with a more than doubled energy product at ambient temperature.

Tetragonally strained interstitial Fe-Co-B alloys were synthesized as epitaxial films grown on a 20 nm thick Au0.55Cu0.45 buffer layer. Different ratios of the perpendicular to in-plane lattice constant c/a = 1.013, 1.034 and 1.02 were stabilized by adding interstitial boron with different concentrations 0, 4, and 10 at.%, respectively. Using ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) and x-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) we found that the total orbital magnetic moment significantly increases with increasing c/a ratio, indicating that reduced crystal symmetry and interstitial B leads to a noticeable enhancement of the effect of spin-orbit coupling (SOC) in the Fe-Co-B alloys. First-principles calculations reveal that the increase in orbital magnetic moment mainly originates from B impurities in octahedral position and the reduced symmetry around B atoms. These findings offer the possibility to enhance SOC phenomena-namely the magnetocrystalline anisotropy and the orbital moment-by stabilizing anisotropic strain by doping 4 at.% B. Results on the influence of B doping on the Fe-Co film microstructure, their coercive field and magnetic relaxation are also presented.

In this work, we present the arrangement of Fe3O4 magnetic nanoparticles into 3D linear chains and its effect on magnetic particle hyperthermia efficiency. The alignment has been performed under a 40 mT magnetic field in an agarose gel matrix. Two different sizes of magnetite nanoparticles, 10 and 40 nm, have been examined, exhibiting room temperature superparamagnetic and ferromagnetic behavior, in terms of DC magnetic field, respectively. The chain formation is experimentally visualized by scanning electron microscopy images. A molecular Dynamics anisotropic diffusion model that outlines the role of intrinsic particle properties and inter-particle distances on dipolar interactions has been used to simulate the chain formation process. The anisotropic character of the aligned samples is also reflected to ferromagnetic resonance and static magnetometry measurements. Compared to the non-aligned samples, magnetically aligned ones present enhanced heating efficiency increasing specific loss power value by a factor of two. Dipolar interactions are responsible for the chain formation of controllable density and thickness inducing shape anisotropy, which in turn enhances magnetic particle hyperthermia efficiency.

RESUMEN

We report on significant developments of a high vacuum reflectometer (diffractometer) and spectrometer for soft x-ray synchrotron experiments which allows conducting a wide range of static and dynamic experiments. Although the chamber named ALICE was designed for the analysis of magnetic hetero- and nanostructures via resonant magnetic x-ray scattering, the instrument is not limited to this technique. The versatility of the instrument was testified by a series of pilot experiments. Static measurements involve the possibility to use scattering and spectroscopy synchrotron based techniques (photon-in photon-out, photon-in electron-out, and coherent scattering). Dynamic experiments require either laser or magnetic field pulses to excite the spin system followed by x-ray probe in the time domain from nano- to femtosecond delay times. In this temporal range, the demagnetization/remagnetization dynamics and magnetization precession in a number of magnetic materials (metals, alloys, and magnetic multilayers) can be probed in an element specific manner. We demonstrate here the capabilities of the system to host a variety of experiments, featuring ALICE as one of the most versatile and demanded instruments at the Helmholtz Center in Berlin-BESSY II synchrotron center in Berlin, Germany.

We have studied the nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) of 51V nuclei in the superconductor/ferromagnet thin film heterostructures Pd_{1-x}Fe_{x}/V/Pd_{1-x}Fe_{x} and Ni/V/Ni in the normal and superconducting state. Whereas the position and shape of the NMR line in the normal state for the trilayers is identical to that observed in a single V layer, in the superconducting state the line shape definitely changes, developing a systematic distortion of the high-field wing of the resonance line. We consider this as the first experimental evidence for the penetration of ferromagnetism into the superconducting layer, a phenomenon which has been theoretically predicted recently and dubbed the spin screening effect.

A new classificational method based on the availability of peptide fragments unique for a certain protein family is presented. Seven common peptide fragments unique for the nerve growth factor amino acid sequence are determined, and two of them are found in the neurotrophic factor from pig brain.

RESUMEN

Evolutionary trees of proteins analysed by means of computer comparative methods were reconstructed and the level of the structure and functional relationship was revealed. The distance between the percent amino acid contents was used to classify a group of toxins from the sea anemone Radianthus macrodactylus, which proved to belong to long neurotoxins. The scores were calculated by the pattern recognition method. By the use of the distance values, ten phospholipases A2 were divided into two groups, containing representatives of the most closely related organisms.

RESUMEN

The nerve growth factor (NGF) was isolated from the Echis multisquamatus venom by ultrafiltration on PM-10 filter, chromatography on TSK-55 gel, ion-exchange chromatography on CM-cellulose and gel filtration on Sephadex G-75. The protein exhibited a marked nerve growth activity within the concentration range of 10-15 ng/ml in cultures of chicken embryo spinal ganglia. The molecular mass of NGF is equal to 33,000-37,000 Da according to Sephadex G-75 gel filtration data; however, according to SDS electrophoresis data its Mr is 13,000 Da. Isoelectrofocusing data suggest that the pI of the isolated factor lies in the region of 7.0-7.2; sugar content is 1-2%.
