GABB: A global dataset of alpine breeding birds and their ecological traits.

Alpine ecosystems represent varied climates and vegetation structures globally, with the potential to support rich and functionally diverse avian communities. High mountain habitats and species are under significant threat from climate change and other anthropogenic factors. Yet, no global database of alpine birds exists, with most mountain systems lacking basic information on species breeding in alpine habitats, their status and trends, or potential cryptic diversity (i.e., sub-species distributions). To address these critical knowledge gaps, we combined published literature, regional monitoring schemes, and expert knowledge from often inaccessible, data-deficient mountain ranges to develop a global list of alpine breeding bird species with their associated distributions and select ecological traits. This dataset compiles alpine breeding records for 1,310 birds, representing 12.0% of extant species and covering all major mountain regions across each continent, excluding Antarctica. The Global Alpine Breeding Bird dataset (GABB) is an essential resource for research on the ecological and evolutionary factors shaping alpine communities, as well as documenting the value of these high elevation, climate-sensitive habitats for conserving biodiversity.

Sobre la importancia de la certificación internacional para los anilladores de aves en Perú / About international certification importance for Bird Banders in Peru

La certificación como anillador de aves consiste en validar el nivel de conocimiento y experiencia de personas frente a un estándar consolidado de trabajo en el ejercicio de la captura, anillado, manejo, y liberación de aves, con el fin de promover la seguridad del ave, la seguridad del anillador y la calidad de los datos colectados. El Consejo Norteamericano de Anillado (NABC) es una organización sin fines de lucro, engloba a diversas organizaciones de investigación, conservación y gestión de la avifauna en Norteamérica. Continuando con su principal misión de promover prácticas responsables de la técnica del anillado de aves bajo criterios estandarizados y éticos, en un trabajo conjunto con el Centro de Ornitología y Biodiversidad (CORBIDI) y otras instituciones afines, entre el 2017 y el 2018 se han desarrollado las tres primeras sesiones de certificación NABC en el Perú. El presente trabajo intenta responder algunas de las preguntas más frecuentes relacionados con estas sesiones de certificación, así como los esfuerzos del anillado de aves promovidos por el Programa de Anillamiento CORBIDI (PAC).

Certification as bird bander implies to validate the level of knowledge and experience of people with regard to a consolidated standard of work in the exercise of capture, banding, handling, and release of birds, in order to promote the safety of the bird, the security of the bander and the quality of the data collected. The North American Banding Council (NABC) is a non-profit organization that includes diverse organizations of research, conservation and management of North American avifauna. Continuing with its mission to promote responsible bird-banding practices under standardized and ethical criteria, in a joint effort with the Centro de Ornitologia y Biodiversidad (CORBIDI) and other related institutions, the first three NABC certification sessions were recently held in Peru. This work tries to answer some of the most frequent questions related to these certification events and the bird banding efforts promoted by the Programa de Anillamiento CORBIDI (PAC).

Autoconcepto general y físico en jóvenes españoles y brasileños que practican actividad física vs. no practicantes / General and physical self-concept of practitioners of physical activity vs. non practitioners, in spanish and brazilian young people

El objetivo del presente trabajo es analizar el autoconcepto general y físico de jóvenes que practican algún tipode actividad física frente a no practicantes. Para ello se ha estudiado la relación que se establece entre la práctica deportiva oausencia de la misma y el autoconcepto general y el autoconcepto físico de jóvenes brasileños y españoles. También secomparan las diferencias atendiendo a la edad, género y nivel de estudios. La muestra está compuesta por 476 jóvenes (292españoles y 184 brasileños) con edades comprendidas entre 19 y 30 años. Se ha recogido la información con elCuestionario de Autoconcepto elaborado al efecto. Los resultados indican que los practicantes muestran un mejorautoconcepto físico, pero no general. Los hombres presentan un mejor autoconcepto físico que las mujeres, al igual que losjóvenes brasileños que se valoran más positivamente que los españoles. Asimismo no se aprecian diferencias si se atiende alas edades y niveles de estudios de los sujetos (AU)

This paper analyses and compares the general and physical self-concept of young subjects who practise some kindof physical activity with that of non practitioners. In order to achieve this objective, we have studied the relationshipbetween playing sport or the absence of it and the general and physical self-concept of Spanish and Brazilian young people.Likewise, we have also analysed differences regarding age, gender and academic background. The corpus of study consistsof 476 young subjects ages 19-30 (292 from Spain and 184 from Brazil). The data have been compiled from theCuestionario de Autoconcepto (Self-Concept Questionnaire), which was devised for this purpose. The results indicate thatpractitioners have a better physical self-concept, but not a better general one. Men show a better physical self-concept thanwomen and Brazilians consider themselves more positively than Spanish subjects do.
