RESUMEN

Constipation commonly affects adults and most often results from benign conditions. Certain associated symptoms (e.g., rectal bleeding or weight loss) raise concern for structural pathology and prompt further evaluation. Intussusception uncommonly affects adults and typically presents with abdominal pain and vomiting. Rarely, intussusception manifests with constipation as the primary symptom. We present a case of a patient with new onset constipation who was only able to induce bowel movements after exercising, a compensatory behavior in the setting of recurrent intussusception because of a Vanek tumor.

In this paper the author makes an observation and subsequent interpretation about the famous work by Diego Velázquez known as Las Meninas, proposing that it is a particular unconscious fantasy that is depicted in the painting. The author does this by examining some of the painting's unique history, and then provides a description of the work itself, considering the place of the observer within it, before coming to an interpretation of the painting as a kind of dream. This theory is subsequently illustrated by a clinical case that explores the same unconscious fantasy as the one captured in the painting, with a particular transference situation. Throughout the text the author seeks to attain a point of intersection between art and the creative solution to emotional states (alpha-elements) with psychoanalytic clinical practice and the difficulty encountered by patients in achieving the symbolization of beta-elements (Bion). This can be understood as the work of the analyst as container of the psychoanalytic space (AU)

RESUMEN

The contribution of Dr. Bruner to psychology and psychiatry is largely unknown. This is a summary of the ideas proposed in his "Medical-Psychological Monograph" from 1857, that was written after a case of a possibly possessed woman from Santiago. In this work Dr. Bruner discards the spirit-brain duality, proposes a functional morphology of the brain, recognizes the importance of remote history taking when interviewing patients, proposes a theory for self-formation and the risks of self-fragmentation. He proposes that the case of the woman corresponds to a brain disease, opposing the thought of an ovarian and uterine origin. He proposes a hypothesis of the psychogenic origin of the disease, the importance of what happened during dreams and beyond the conscience of the patient. Many of his ideas preceded by decades those of Charcot and Freud, but they have not had a proper recognition.
