RESUMEN

Pandemic COVID-19 has negative effects on the mental health of all people, especially pregnant women. This study aimed to determine the psychological effects of COVID-19 on self-care in pregnant women. The Cross-sectional study using the Multistage sampling technique was conducted among 215 pregnant women selected randomly from the Iranian Integrated Health System in 2020. Data were collected using demographic and obstetrics questionnaires, Pregnancy Self-Care Scale, Fear of COVID-19, COVID-19 Anxiety Scale(CDAS), and Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) by the self-report method. Data analysis was performed using SPSS software version 21 with Pearson correlation test and multivariable linear regression.The Mean (Standard Deviation (SD)) of Fear, anxiety, perceived stress, and self-care was 20.85(6.45), 18.20(10.45), 31.16 (7.65) and 40.84(4.11), respectively. The correlational analyses showed small positive significant associations between Fear (r=0.20; P=0.004) and anxiety of COVID-19 (r=0.14; P=0.03)with self-car but the association between perceived stress and self-care was small negative significant (r= -0.14; P=0.04). Based on regression analysis, 11% of the self-care changes could be explained by three independent variables (ß= 0.130, SE= 0.043, P=0.002). Based on the findings, pregnant women may benefit from psychoeducation that focuses on the effect of mental health problems on pregnant women.

Urinary tract infection (UTI) is an infection that can occur in any area of the urinary tract which is characterized by a positive urine culture (U/C). The risk of UTI following cesarean section (CS) increases due to procedures such as catheterization. In vitro studies have demonstrated the effect of Rosa canina fruit in preventing Escherichia coli growth. This study was conducted to determine the effect of R. canina fruit in preventing the incidence of UTI in women following CS. This triple-blind randomized clinical trial was conducted in 2016 on 400 women following CS with negative U/C in Alzahra and Taleghani educational hospitals in the city of Tabriz-Iran. Participants were assigned into two groups of 200 women using block randomization. Each group received a twice daily dose of 500 mg capsules containing R. canina or placebo from the second day after CS for 20 days. Women were assessed by U/C on the 7th-10th and 20th days following CS. UTI was significantly lower in the intervention group compared with the control in the follow-ups conducted on the 7th-10th days (odds ratio = 0.22; confidence interval 95% [0.07, 0.67]; p = .006) and 20th day (odds ratio = 0.32; confidence interval 95% [0.14, 0.75]; p = .008). But the incidence of cystitis in the two groups was not statistically significant (p > .05). R. canina fruit capsules were able to reduce the incidence of UTI after CS. Thus, it is likely that administration of this medication can promote maternal health following CS.

OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to compare the accuracy of dental implant impressions obtained by a combination of different impression techniques and viscosities of polyvinyl siloxane (PVS). MATERIALS AND METHODS: Four parallel fixtures were placed between mental foramina in a master model of lower dental arch. Three different viscosities (putty/light body, medium body/light body, and monophase: heavy body) and direct and indirect techniques (six groups) were used, and seven impressions were obtained from each group (n=42). To measure the accuracy of impressions, drift, horizontal, and vertical angles of the implants, as well as the hex rotation of the implants in casts were evaluated using a digitizer device (1µm accuracy), in comparison with master arch. Data were analyzed using five-factor two-way ANOVA and Tukey's post-hoc test. RESULTS: The accuracy of impressions was assessed and the results showed that direct technique was not significantly different from indirect technique (P>0.05). Also, there were no significant differences between the mentioned viscosities except for the horizontal angle (P=0.006). CONCLUSIONS: Viscosity of impression materials is of high significance for the accuracy of dental impressions.

BACKGROUND: Due to increasing demands for a full mouth implant reconstructions and the fact that the most failures are associated with biomechanical complications, determining the effect of different occlusal patterns on these complications seems inevitable. The aim of this study is to compare affection of different occlusal designs in full mouth implant reconstructed patients on electromyographic activity of temporal and masseter muscles compared to natural dentition. METHODS: Thirty-two patients were included in this study, considering that 16 patients had natural dentition and the other 16 were full mouth implant reconstruction patients. In both groups, the participants were divided into two subgroups: 8 patients had canine guidance occlusal pattern and the other eight had a group function occlusal pattern. Muscle contractions were studied during both maximum intercuspation and lateral excursions to the point of intercanine contact using an electromyography device. RESULTS: The average percentages of masseter muscle contraction in lateral excursions relative to maximum intercuspation were as follows: 72.20% in full mouth implant reconstruction patients with group function occlusion 69.49% in natural dentition with group function occlusion 58.85% in full mouth implant reconstruction patients with canine guidance occlusion 30.91% in natural dentition with canine guidance occlusion. The average percentages of temporal muscle contraction in lateral excursions relative to maximum intercuspation were as follows: 70.87% in full mouth implant reconstruction patients with group function occlusion 78.57% in natural dentition with group function occlusion 51.99% in full mouth implant reconstruction patients with canine guidance occlusion 31.55% in natural dentition with canine guidance occlusion. CONCLUSION: A canine guidance occlusal pattern in both, natural dentition and full mouth implant-supported FDP, patients resulted in decreased muscle contraction. This decreasing is more significant in natural dentition and it is better to establish a canine guided occlusion in a full mouth reconstruction patient.
