RESUMEN

During the period from 2001 to 2005 operations were performed on 186 patients with locally-spread colorectal cancer. In 132 cases (the 1st group) radical combined resections were performed, 54 patients (the 2nd group) underwent palliative operations. The morbidity rate was 18.2% (24 cases) in the first group and 7.4% (4 cases) in the second group. The mortality rate in the first group was 2.3% (3 cases), no mortality was observed in the second group. Overall 3-year survival in the first group was 69.9%, and no one patient of the second group survived longer than 3 years. Overall 5-year survival in the first group was 54.7%, and the relapse-free 5-year survival was 52.8%. The data obtained have shown the effectiveness of combined resections in treatment of locally-spread colorectal cancer. We suggest that further improvement of long-term results can be achieved using chemoradiation.

RESUMEN

Sixty-two patients were treated for locally-advanced ampular rectal cancer at the Center's Clinic (2004-2008). Extended preoperative course of radiotherapy plus 5 = fluorouracil chemomodification was given to 55 patients (group 1) and the same plus hyperthermia--to 27 (group 2). Radiation injuries were reported in 37.1% (group 1) and 29.6% in group 2. Surgical complications occurred in 10 (group 1) (32.2%) and 8 (group 2) (32%). Relapse was registered in 3 (group 1) (12.5%) and 3 (group 2) (13.6%). Overall 3-year survival (group 1)--82%; (group 2)--63.9%; 3-year relapse-free survival (group 1)--69.8%; (group 2)--52.2%.

RESUMEN

The authors present an analysis of results of using D2 operations in combined treatment of gastric cancer. Such volumes of operations combined with preoperative irradiation are not followed by greater number of complications and lethality. The incidence of progressing in terms more than a year proved to be considerably lower in the group of patients with combined treatment with D2 lymphodissection than in the groups without lymphodissection and preoperative radiation therapy.
