RESUMEN

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to compare clinical scores and imaging outcomes of bony Bankart lesions that underwent single-point and modified double-pulley fixation after at least 2 years of follow-up. METHODS: Patients who underwent surgery to treat bony Bankart injuries were included and divided into groups A and B. A total of 69 patients were included (32 in group A and 37 in group B). Patients in group A underwent arthroscopic modified double-pulley fixation and patients in group B underwent arthroscopic single-point fixation. Three-dimensional computed tomography (3D-CT) was used to assess glenoid reduction one day after surgery. Postoperative bony union was assessed using 3D-CT and multiplanar reconstruction images 6 months after surgery. Constant-Murley, Rowe rating system, visual analogue scale and University of California at Los Angeles and American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons scores were recorded before and after surgery. RESULTS: In terms of imaging measurements, there was no significant group difference in the preoperative size of the glenoid defect, the size of the bony fragment or the expected postoperative size of the glenoid defect. The sizes of the actual postoperative glenoid defects differed significantly between the groups (p = 0.027), as did the absolute difference between the expected and actual glenoid defect sizes (p < 0.001). At 6 months postoperatively, 50.0% of group A patients and 24.3% of group B patients exhibited complete bony union (p = 0.027); the rates of partial union were 37.5% and 56.8%, respectively. At the final follow-up, all clinical scores were significantly better than the preoperative scores (all p < 0.05), with no significant group differences (not significant). CONCLUSIONS: The use of the modified double-pulley technique with two anchors to treat bony Bankart injuries provides a better reduction of bone fragments than single-point fixation with two anchors and was associated with a higher rate of early bone union. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: Level III.

RESUMEN

A two-dimensional/two-dimensional (2D/2D) TiO2/ZnIn2S4 photocatalyst was reasonably proposed and constructed by a two-step oil bath-hydrothermal method. TiO2 nanosheets uniformly grown on the surface of ZnIn2S4 nanosheets and a synergetic effect between the TiO2 and ZnIn2S4 could highly contribute to improving the specific surface area and hydrophilicity of ZnIn2S4 as well as accelerating the separation and transfer of photon-generated e--h+ pairs, and thus enhancing the visible-light photocatalytic degradation and H2 evolution performance of ZnIn2S4. Rhodamine B (RhB) and tetracycline (TC) were simultaneously selected as the target pollutants for degradation in the work. The optimum photocatalytic RhB and TC degradation properties of TiO2/ZnIn2S4-10 wt% were almost 3.11- and 8.61-fold higher than that of pure ZnIn2S4, separately, while the highest photocatalytic hydrogen evolution rate was also observed in the presence of TiO2/ZnIn2S4-10wt% and 4.28-fold higher than that of ZnIn2S4. Moreover, the possible photocatalytic mechanisms for enhanced visible-light photocatalytic degradation and H2 evolution were investigated and proposed in detail. Our research results open an easy pathway for developing efficient bifunctional photocatalysts.

RESUMEN

In this study, Mo-glycerate was used as a precursor to create MoS2 hollow nanospheres (HNS), which were then used for the first time to modify ZnIn2S4 nanosheets to create MoS2 HNS/ZnIn2S4 photocatalysts. The findings demonstrate that MoS2 HNS/ZnIn2S4 heterojunctions exhibited remarkably boosted photocatalytic properties and excellent reusability for both RhB degradation and H2 evolution without the use of Pt as a co-catalyst. Among the heterojunctions, the RhB degradation and H2 evolution efficiencies of the optimized MoS2 HNS/ZnIn2S4-3 wt % composite were almost 5 and 34 times higher than those of ZnIn2S4, respectively. The excellent performance of MoS2 HNS/ZnIn2S4-3 wt % might be attributed to the expansion of the visible-light response range and the accelerated separation efficiency of photo-induced carriers, according to the findings of the optical property tests. Based on the established band gap position and characterization results, a potential mechanism for appealing photocatalytic activity over MoS2 HNS/ZnIn2S4 heterojunctions was also postulated.

RESUMEN

Inflammatory reaction exerts a pivotal role in secondary damage after cerebral hemorrhage and spinal cord injury. miRNAs can both promote and inhibit inflammatory actions among microglial cells. The objective of the present paper was to figure out whether miR-27b-3p produced regulatory effects during processes of microglial inflammation. Lipopolysaccharides (LPS) were used to prepare microglial activation models. Following miR-27b-3p overexpression and interference, the RNA and protein levels of tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, interleukin (IL)-6, and IL-1ß were subjected to real-time fluorescent quantitative PCR (qPCR) and western blot assays, respectively. Cellular apoptosis was subjected to flow cytometry and miR-27b-3p target genes were visualized using a dual luciferase reporter system for verification. The levels of TNF-α, IL-6, and IL-1ß mRNA in miR-27b-3p-overexpressed microglial cells were markedly increased compared to the control. Apoptosis of microglial cells was increased markedly in the overexpressed miR-27b-3p group compared to the negative control. Conversely, a different result was presented in the microglial transfected with miR-27b-3p inhibitors. The downregulation of A20, a miR-27b-3p target gene, mediated levels of TNF-α, IL-6, and IL-1ß. Furthermore, A20 reduced microglial apoptosis. These data revealed that miR-27b-3p could mediate not only microglia activation but also neuroinflammation via downregulating A20 expression. Thus, miR-27b-3p is regarded as gene therapy in treating cerebral hemorrhage and spinal cord injury.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effect of different saline irrigation volume under arthroscopy on early postoperative pain and swelling of the knee. METHODS: The clinical data of 539 patients with meniscus injury treated by arthroscopic menisci reformation who met the selection criteria between July 2016 and February 2020 were retrospectively analyzed. They were divided into three groups according to the continuous saline irrigation volume during the operation: 176 patients in the non-irrigation group (group A), 183 patients in the 1 liter-irrigation group (group B), and 180 patients in the 3 liters-irrigation group (group C). There was no significant difference in gender, age, cause of injury, sides of injury, body mass index, disease duration, smoking history, and classification of meniscus injury among 3 groups ( P>0.05). At 6, 12, 24, 48, and 72 hours after operation, the patient's pain level was evaluated by the visual analogue scale (VAS) score, and the knee swelling situation was evaluated by the swelling ratings (the difference between both sides in circumference of the 2 cm upper patella of the knee). Knee skin temperature (the difference of the skin temperature between both sides) and the C-reactive protein (CRP) level in serum were measured at the 1st and 3rd days after operation. Range of motion of the knee was measured at the 1st, 3rd, and 5th days after operation. RESULTS: All incisions healed by first intention without any complication after operation. The VAS scores of each group showed a slow increase trend after operation, and gradually decreased to less than the VAS score of 6 hours at 48 hours after operation. There was no significant difference in VAS scores among the 3 groups at each time point after operation ( P>0.05). The swelling ratings of the knee in each group showed a gradually decrease trend after operation. There was no significant difference in the swelling ratings of the knee among the 3 groups at each time point after operation ( P>0.05). The skin temperature of the knee in each group decreased at the 3rd day after operation than the 1st day, and there was no significant difference in the skin temperature of the knee among the 3 groups at each time point after operation ( P>0.05). There was no significant difference in CRP level within the group and among the 3 groups at each time point after operation ( P>0.05). Range of motion of the knee in each group increased gradually at the 1st, 3rd, and 5th days after operation, and there was no significant difference among the 3 groups at each time point after operation ( P>0.05). CONCLUSION: The different continuous saline irrigation volume would not affect the early postoperative pain, swelling, and inflammation of the knee during the arthroscopic menisci plasty.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the clinical effects of single row anchor in repairing tears of the subscapularis muscle combined with the long head of the biceps tendon (LHBT) injury under arthroscopy. METHODS: From June 2016 to June 2017, the clinical data of 32 patients with subscapularis combined with biceps tendon injury were retrospectively analyzed. Preoperative MRI examination of the shoulder joint was performed to evaluate tendon injuries, and the subscapularis muscle was repaired with single row anchor under arthroscopy, and tenotomy or tenodesis was performed on the long head tendon of the biceps humerus in the intertubercular groove. The range of motion and the functional score of the shoulder joint before and after the operation were evaluated. All patients were followed up for at least 24 months. RESULTS: The mean follow-up period was 28.8 months (range, 24-34 months). No infections occurred during the follow-up period. The patients' follow up exams showed significant improvement in postoperative shoulder joint flexion, external rotation, and internal rotation (P < 0.01), and the postoperative shoulder function American Society of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery Shoulder Joint Score (ASES; 80.6 ± 7.6) was significantly higher than the preoperative score (P < 0.01). The visual analog scale score (1.8 ± 0.8) was significantly lower than that before surgery (P < 0.01). The constant score (80.5 ± 7.4) was significantly higher than preoperation (P < 0.01). There was no significant difference in shoulder joint score between the tenotomy and tenodesis groups (P > 0.05). Preoperative and postoperative scores were, respectively: visual analog scale score (1.7 ± 0.9 vs 1.8 ± 0.0.8) ASES score (81.3 ± 7.9 vs 80.1 ± 8.0) and constant score (80.9 ± 8.0 vs 80.1 ± 6.9). CONCLUSION: Using single row anchor under arthroscopy to repair subscapularis combined with long head of biceps tendon injury yielded good results and high tendon healing rates were obtained.

RESUMEN

The tumor suppressor PTEN is involved in the regulation of cell proliferation, lineage determination, motility, adhesion and apoptosis. Loss of PTEN in the bone mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) was shown to change their function in the repair tissue. So far, the CRISPR/Cas9 system has been proven extremely simple and flexible. Using this system to manipulate PTEN gene editing could produce the PTEN-Knocking-out (PTEN-KO) strain. We knocked out PTEN in MSCs and validated the expression by PCR and Western blot. To clarify the changes in proliferation, CCK-8 assay was applied. In support, living cell proportion was assessed by Trypan blue staining. For osteogenic and adipogenic induction, cells were cultured in different media for 2 weeks. Oil red staining and alizarin red staining were performed for assessment of osteogenic or adipogenic differentiation. The expression of Id4, Runx2, ALP and PPARγ was examined by qPCR and immunocytochemistry staining. The PTEN-KO strain was identified by sequencing. The PTEN-KO cells had an increased cell viability and higher survival compared with the wild type. However, decreased expression of Runx2 and PPARγ was found in the PTEN loss strain after induction, and consistently decreased osteogenic or adipogenic differentiation was observed by alizarin and oil red staining. Together, PTEN-KO strain showed an increased proliferation capability but decreased multi-directional differentiation potential. When BMSCs serve as seed cells for tissue engineering, the PTEN gene may be used as an indicator.

RESUMEN

Carbon nanofibers modified graphite fibers (CNFs/GF) composite electrode was prepared for anode in high substrate concentration microbial fuel cells. Electrochemical tests showed that the CNFs/GF anode generated a peak current density of 2.42 mA cm(-2) at a low acetate concentration of 20 mM, which was 54% higher than that from bare GF. Increase of the acetate concentration to 80 mM, in which the peak current density of the CNFs/GF anode greatly increased and was up to 3.57 mA cm(-2), was seven times as that of GF anode. Morphology characterization revealed that the biofilms in the CNFs/GF anode were much denser than those in the bare GF. This result revealed that the nanostructure in the anode not only enhanced current generation but also could tolerate high substrate concentration.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To summarize operative procedure and the effectiveness of open reduction with internal fixation or radial head replacement for the treatment of Essex-Lopresti injury. METHODS: Between November 2002 and October 2010, 10 patients with Essex-Lopresti injury were treated. There were 8 males and 2 females with a mean age of 36 years (range, 20-56 years). Eight cases were fresh closed fracture within 2 days. According to Mason classification, 5 fracture were type II, 3 were type III. The other 2 cases were old fracture within 3 months. Wrist joint X-ray revealed that all the patients had distal radioulnar joint dislocation. Open reduction with internal mini-plate or absorbable screw fixation was performed in 5 cases, and radial head replacement in 5 cases; meanwhile, the distal radioulnar joint was reduced and fixed. RESULTS: All incisions healed by first intention without infection or bone nonunion. The patients were followed up 7 to 24 months with an average of 14.7 months. The X-ray films showed fracture healing at 9-20 weeks (mean, 16.3 weeks); distal radioulnar joint was stable without shortening or shift of proximal radius. According to elbow clinical evaluation system, the results were excellent in 5 cases, good in 3 cases, and fair in 2 cases. According to wrist clinical evaluation, the results were excellent in 7 cases, good in 2 cases, and fair in 1 case. All patients had good elbow stability, and recovered quickly. CONCLUSION: Early diagnosis, operation, and functional exercises are important to obtain an excellent result in treating Essex-Lopresti injury.

RESUMEN

In the crystal structure of the title compound, C(26)H(26)O(2), the dihedral angle between the tolyl rings at each end of the 1,5-dione chain is 70.3 (1)°; the tolyl group at the middle of the chain makes dihedral angles of 67.8 (2) and 85.1 (2)° with the terminal rings. One benzene C atom and one methyl-ene C atom inter-act with a carbonyl O atom of an adjacent mol-ecule through C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, forming chains in the crystal.
