RESUMEN

PURPOSE: To evaluate the diagnostic potential of radiomic analyses based on machine learning that rely on contrast-enhanced computerized tomography (CT) for categorizing ovarian sex cord-stromal tumors (SCSTs) and epithelial ovarian cancers (EOCs). METHODS: We included a total of 225 patients with 230 tumors, who were randomly divided into training and test cohorts with a ratio of 8:2. Radiomic features were extracted from each tumor and dimensionally reduced using LASSO. We used univariate and multivariate analyses to identify independent predictors from clinical features and conventional CT parameters. Clinic-radiological model, radiomics model and mixed model were constructed respectively. We evaluated model performance via analysis of the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve and area under ROC curves (AUCs), and compared it across models using the Delong test. RESULTS: We selected a support vector machine as the best classifier. Both radiomic and mixed model achieved good classification accuracy with AUC values of 0.923/0.930 in the training cohort, and 0.879/0.909 in the test cohort. The mixed model performed significantly better than the model based on clinical radiological information, with AUC values of 0.930 versus 0.826 (p = 0.000) in the training cohort and 0.905 versus 0.788 (p = 0.042) in the test cohort. CONCLUSION: Radiomic analysis based on CT images is a reliable and noninvasive tool for identifying SCSTs and EOCs, outperforming experience radiologists.

Nanoparticles, exhibiting functionally relevant structural heterogeneity, are at the forefront of cutting-edge research. Now, high-throughput single-particle imaging (SPI) with X-ray free-electron lasers (XFELs) creates opportunities for recovering the shape distributions of millions of particles that exhibit functionally relevant structural heterogeneity. To realize this potential, three challenges have to be overcome: (1) simultaneous parametrization of structural variability in real and reciprocal spaces; (2) efficiently inferring the latent parameters of each SPI measurement; (3) scaling up comparisons between 105 structural models and 106 XFEL-SPI measurements. Here, we describe how we overcame these three challenges to resolve the nonequilibrium shape distributions within millions of gold nanoparticles imaged at the European XFEL. These shape distributions allowed us to quantify the degree of asymmetry in these particles, discover a relatively stable "shape envelope" among nanoparticles, discern finite-size effects related to shape-controlling surfactants, and extrapolate nanoparticles' shapes to their idealized thermodynamic limit. Ultimately, these demonstrations show that XFEL SPI can help transform nanoparticle shape characterization from anecdotally interesting to statistically meaningful.

Feline parvovirus (FPV) infection is highly fatal in felines. NS1, which is a key nonstructural protein of FPV, can inhibit host innate immunity and promote viral replication, which is the main reason for the severe pathogenicity of FPV. However, the mechanism by which the NS1 protein disrupts host immunity and regulates viral replication is still unclear. Here, we identified an FPV M1 strain that is regulated by the NS1 protein and has more pronounced suppression of innate immunity, resulting in robust replication. We found that the neutralization titer of the FPV M1 strain was significantly lower than that of the other strains. Moreover, FPV M1 had powerful replication ability, and the FPV M1-NS1 protein had heightened efficacy in repressing interferon-stimulated genes (ISGs) expression. Subsequently, we constructed an FPV reverse genetic system, which confirmed that the N588 residue of FPV M1-NS1 protein is a key amino acid that bolsters viral proliferation. Recombinant virus containing N588 also had stronger ability to inhibit ISGs, and lower ISGs levels promoted viral replication and reduced the neutralization titer of the positive control serum. Finally, we confirmed that the difference in viral replication was abolished in type I IFN receptor knockout cell lines. In conclusion, our results demonstrate that the N588 residue of the NS1 protein is a critical amino acid that promotes viral proliferation by increasing the inhibition of ISGs expression. These insights provide a reference for studying the relationship between parvovirus-mediated inhibition of host innate immunity and viral replication while facilitating improved FPV vaccine production.IMPORTANCEFPV infection is a viral infectious disease with the highest mortality rate in felines. A universal feature of parvovirus is its ability to inhibit host innate immunity, and its ability to suppress innate immunity is mainly accomplished by the NS1 protein. In the present study, FPV was used as a viral model to explore the mechanism by which the NS1 protein inhibits innate immunity and regulates viral replication. Studies have shown that the FPV-NS1 protein containing the N588 residue strongly inhibits the expression of host ISGs, thereby increasing the viral proliferation titer. In addition, the presence of the N588 residue can increase the proliferation titer of the strain 5- to 10-fold without affecting its virulence and immunogenicity. In conclusion, our findings provide new insights and guidance for studying the mechanisms by which parvoviruses suppress innate immunity and for developing high-yielding FPV vaccines.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to introduce HPV-associated and HPV-independent histologic classifications to analyze prognostic factors and develop a prognostic nomogram for patients with penile squamous cell carcinoma (PSCC). METHODS: Data of 1502 PSCC patients between 2010 and 2020 were accessed from the SEER database, and the patients were randomly divided into a training set and a validation set. Independent risk factors for PSCC patients prognosis were analyzed by using univariate and multivariate COX proportional hazards regression, and was used for the construction of the nomogram, and the predictive performance of the model was evaluated by C-index, calibration curve and ROC curve. Kaplan-Meier analysis was applied to explore the impact of HPV-related factors on patient survival, while propensity score matching (PSM) and inverse probability treatment weighting (IPTW) techniques were used to balance other confounding factors like individual clinical and pathological factors, and to evaluate the differences in overall survival (OS) and cause-specific survival (CSS) between subgroups. RESULT: The results indicated that histologic type, Grade classification, T/M stage, surgical methods and chemotherapy were independent risk factors affecting OS and CSS in PSCC patients. In addition, age and marital status were significantly associated with OS, while lymph node metastasis was an independent prognostic factor for CSS, the validation results of the model showed that the nomogram had a superior predictive performance compared with the American Joint Committee on Cancer staging system. In addition, subgroup analyses prior to and after IPTW and PSM adjustments showed that HPV-associated group had better OS and CSS than HPV-independent group. CONCLUSION: Our study developed and validated a nomogram using a novel histologic classification and achieved satisfactory results, which can better help clinicians to predict the prognosis of penile squamous cell carcinoma patients.

BACKGROUND: Liver hepatocellular carcinoma (LIHC) is a prevalent form of primary liver cancer. Research has demonstrated the contribution of tumor stem cells in facilitating tumor recurrence, metastasis, and treatment resistance. Despite this, there remains a lack of established cancer stem cells (CSCs)-associated genes signatures for effectively predicting the prognosis and guiding the treatment strategies for patients diagnosed with LIHC. METHODS: The single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) and bulk RNA transcriptome data were obtained based on public datasets and computerized firstly using CytoTRACE package and One Class Linear Regression (OCLR) algorithm to evaluate stemness level, respectively. Then, we explored the association of stemness indicators (CytoTRACE score and stemness index, mRNAsi) with survival outcomes and clinical characteristics by combining clinical information and survival analyses. Subsequently, weighted co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) and Cox were applied to assess mRNAsi-related genes in bulk LIHC data and construct a prognostic model for LIHC patients. Single-sample gene-set enrichment analysis (ssGSEA), Cell-type Identification By Estimating Relative Subsets Of RNA Transcripts (CIBERSORT) and Tumor Immune Estimation Resource (TIMER) analysis were employed for immune infiltration assessment. Finally, the potential immunotherapeutic response was predicted by the Tumor Immune Dysfunction and Exclusion (TIDE), and the tumor mutation burden (TMB). Additionally, pRRophetic package was applied to evaluate the sensitivity of high and low-risk groups to common chemotherapeutic drugs. RESULTS: A total of four genes (including STIP1, H2AFZ, BRIX1, and TUBB) associated with stemness score (CytoTRACE score and mRNAsi) were identified and constructed a risk model that could predict prognosis in LIHC patients. It was observed that high stemness cells occurred predominantly in the late stages of LIHC and that poor overall survival in LIHC patients was also associated with high mRNAsi scores. In addition, pathway analysis confirmed the biological uniqueness of the two risk groups. Personalized treatment predictions suggest that patients with a low risk benefited more from immunotherapy, while those with a high risk group may be conducive to chemotherapeutic drugs. CONCLUSION: The current study developed a novel prognostic risk signature with genes related to CSCs, which provides novel ideas for the diagnosis, prognosis and treatment of LIHC.

BACKGROUND: Feline calicivirus (FCV) infection causes severe upper respiratory disease in cats, but there are no effective vaccines available for preventing FCV infection. Subunit vaccines have the advantages of safety, low cost and excellent immunogenicity, but no FCV subunit vaccine is currently available. The CDE protein is the dominant neutralizing epitope region of the main antigenic structural protein of FCV, VP1. Therefore, this study evaluated the effectiveness of the CDE region as a truncated FCV VP1 protein in preventing FCV infection to provide a strategy for developing potential FCV subunit vaccines. RESULTS: Through the prediction of FCV VP1 epitopes, we found that the E region is the dominant neutralizing epitope region. By analysing the spatial structure of VP1 protein, 13 amino acid sites in the CD and E regions were found to form hydrogen bonding interactions. The results show the presence of these interaction forces supports the E region, helping improve the stability and expression level of the soluble E protein. Therefore, we selected the CDE protein as the immunogen for the immunization of felines. After immunization with the CDE protein, we found significant stimulation of IgG, IgA and neutralizing antibody production in serum and swab samples, and the cytokine TNF-α levels and the numbers of CD4+ T lymphocytes were increased. Moreover, a viral challenge trial indicated that the protection generated by the CDE subunit vaccine significantly reduced the incidence of disease in animals. CONCLUSIONS: For the first time, we studied the efficacy of the CDE protein, which is the dominant neutralizing epitope region of the FCV VP1 protein, in preventing FCV infection. We revealed that the CDE protein can significantly activate humoral, mucosal and cellular immunity, and the resulting protective effect can significantly reduce the incidence of animal disease. The CDE region of the FCV capsid is easy to produce and has high stability and excellent immunogenicity, which makes it a candidate for low-cost vaccines.

OBJECTIVE: This study aims to investigate the relationship between psychological resilience, thriving at work, and work performance among nurses, as well as analyse the mediating role of thriving at work in the relationship between psychological resilience and the work performance of nurses. The findings are intended to serve as a reference for nursing managers to design tailored work performance intervention programs. METHOD: Using convenience sampling, 308 clinical nurses were selected from a tertiary hospital in Changsha City, Hunan Province, China, from February to April 2023. The Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC), the Thriving at Work Scale, and the Work Performance Scale were employed for the questionnaire survey. Pearson correlation analysis was used to explore the relationship between psychological resilience, thriving at work and work performance. The SPSS 26.0 software's 'Process' plugin was utilised for mediation effect analysis. RESULTS: Significantly positive correlations were found between psychological resilience and thriving at work (r = 0.806, P < 0.01), thriving at work and work performance (r = 0.571, P < 0.01) as well as psychological resilience and work performance (r = 0.572, P < 0.01). Psychological resilience significantly predicted work performance positively (ß = 0.558, t = 11.165, P < 0.01), and this prediction remained significant when thriving at work (the mediating variable), was introduced (ß = 0.371, t = 4.772, P < 0.01). Psychological resilience significantly predicted thriving at work positively (ß = 0.731, t = 20.779, P < 0.01), and thriving at work significantly predicted work performance positively (ß = 0.256, t = 3.105, P < 0.05). The mediating effect size of thriving at work between psychological resilience and work performance was 33.49% (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Thriving at work plays a partial mediating role between psychological resilience and work performance. The level of work performance among clinical nurses was relatively high. Nursing managers can enhance thriving at work by fostering psychological resilience among clinical nurses, thereby further improving their work performance to ensure high-quality and efficient nursing care.

Feline calicivirus (FCV) is considered one of the major pathogens of cats worldwide and causes upper respiratory tract disease in all cats. In some cats, infection is by a highly virulent strain of FCV (vs.-FCV), which can cause severe and fatal systemic disease symptoms. At present, few antiviral drugs are approved for clinical treatment against FCV. Therefore, there is an imminent need for effective FCV antiviral agents. Here, we used observed a cytopathic effect (CPE) assay to screen 1746 traditional Chinese medicine monomer compounds and found one that can effectively inhibit FCV replication, namely, handelin, with an effective concentration (EC50) value of approximately 2.5 µM. Further study showed that handelin inhibits FCV replication via interference with heat shock protein 70 (HSP70), which is a crucial host factor and plays a positive role in regulating viral replication. Moreover, handelin and HSP70 inhibitors have broad-spectrum antiviral activity. These findings indicate that handelin is a potential candidate for the treatment of FCV infection and that HSP70 may be an important drug target.

Recently, herpesvirus viral vectors that stimulate strong humoral and cellular immunity have been demonstrated to be the most promising platforms for the development of multivalent vaccines, because they contain various nonessential genes and exhibit long-life latency characteristics. Previously, we showed that the feline herpesvirus-1 (FHV-1) mutant WH2020-ΔTK/gI/gE, which was safe for felines and provided efficacious protection against FHV-1 challenge, can be used as a vaccine vector. Moreover, previous studies have shown that the major neutralizing epitope VP2 protein of feline parvovirus (FPV) can elicit high levels of neutralizing antibodies. Therefore, to develop a bivalent vaccine against FPV and FHV-1, we first generated a novel recombinant virus by CRISPR/Cas9-mediated homologous recombination, WH2020-ΔTK/gI/gE-VP2, which expresses the VP2 protein of FPV. The growth characteristics of WH2020-ΔTK/gI/gE-VP2 were similar to those of WH2020-ΔTK/gI/gE, and WH2020-ΔTK/gI/gE-VP2 was stable for at least 30 generations in CRFK cells. As expected, we found that the felines immunized with WH2020-ΔTK/gI/gE-VP2 produced FPV-neutralizing antibody titers (27.5) above the positive cutoff (26) on day 14 after single inoculation. More importantly, recombinant WH2020-ΔTK/gI/gE-VP2 exhibited severely impaired pathogenicity in inoculated and cohabiting cats. The kittens immunized with WH2020-ΔTK/gI/gE and WH2020-ΔTK/gI/gE-VP2 produced similar levels of FHV-specific antibodies and IFN-ß. Furthermore, felines immunized with WH2020-ΔTK/gI/gE-VP2 were protected against challenge with FPV and FHV-1. These data showed that WH2020-ΔTK/gI/gE-VP2 appears to be a potentially safe, effective, and economical bivalent vaccine against FPV and FHV-1 and that WH2020-ΔTK/gI/gE can be used as a viral vector to develop feline multivalent vaccines.

The noise caused by sample heterogeneity (including sample solvent) has been identified as one of the determinant factors for a successful X-ray single-particle imaging experiment. It influences both the radiation damage process that occurs during illumination as well as the scattering patterns captured by the detector. Here, we investigate the impact of water layer thickness and radiation damage on orientation recovery from diffraction patterns of the nitrogenase iron protein. Orientation recovery is a critical step for single-particle imaging. It enables to sort a set of diffraction patterns scattered by identical particles placed at unknown orientations and assemble them into a 3D reciprocal space volume. The recovery quality is characterized by a "disconcurrence" metric. Our results show that while a water layer mitigates protein damage, the noise generated by the scattering from it can introduce challenges for orientation recovery and is anticipated to cause problems in the phase retrieval process to extract the desired protein structure. Compared to these disadvantageous effects due to the thick water layer, the effects of radiation damage on the orientation recovery are relatively small. Therefore, minimizing the amount of residual sample solvent should be considered a crucial step in improving the fidelity and resolution of X-ray single-particle imaging experiments.

FIP is a fatal feline disease caused by FIPV. Two drugs (GS441524 and GC376) target FIPV and have good therapeutic effect when administered by subcutaneous injection. However, subcutaneous injection has limitations compared with oral administration. Additionally, the oral efficacy of the two drugs has not been determined. Here, GS441524 and GC376 were shown to efficiently inhibit FIPV-rQS79 (recombination virus with a full-length field type I FIPV and the spike gene replaced with type II FIPV) and FIPV II (commercially available type II FIPV 79-1146) at a noncytotoxic concentration in CRFK cells. Moreover, the effective oral dose was determined via the in vivo pharmacokinetics of GS441524 and GC376. We conducted animal trials in three dosing groups and found that while GS441524 can effectively reducing the mortality of FIP subjects at a range of doses, GC376 only reducing the mortality rate at high doses. Additionally, compared with GC376, oral GS441524 has better absorption, slower clearance and a slower rate of metabolism. Furthermore, there was no significant difference between the oral and subcutaneous pharmacokinetic parameters. Collectively, our study is the first to evaluate the efficacy of oral GS441524 and GC376 using a relevant animal model. We also verified the reliability of oral GS441524 and the potential of oral GC376 as a reference for rational clinical drug use. Furthermore, the pharmacokinetic data provide insights into and potential directions for the optimization of these drugs.

We demonstrate that x-ray fluorescence emission, which cannot maintain a stationary interference pattern, can be used to obtain images of structures by recording photon-photon correlations in the manner of the stellar intensity interferometry of Hanbury Brown and Twiss. This is achieved utilizing femtosecond-duration pulses of a hard x-ray free-electron laser to generate the emission in exposures comparable to the coherence time of the fluorescence. Iterative phasing of the photon correlation map generated a model-free real-space image of the structure of the emitters. Since fluorescence can dominate coherent scattering, this may enable imaging uncrystallised macromolecules.

African swine fever virus (ASFV) is a large, double-stranded DNA virus that causes a fatal disease in pigs, posing a threat to the global pig industry. Whereas some ASFV proteins have been found to play important roles in ASFV-host interaction, the functional roles of many proteins are still largely unknown. In this study, we identified I73R, an early viral gene in the replication cycle of ASFV, as a key virulence factor. Our findings demonstrate that pI73R suppresses the host innate immune response by broadly inhibiting the synthesis of host proteins, including antiviral proteins. Crystallization and structural characterization results suggest that pI73R is a nucleic-acid-binding protein containing a Zα domain. It localizes in the nucleus and inhibits host protein synthesis by suppressing the nuclear export of cellular messenger RNA (mRNAs). While pI73R promotes viral replication, the deletion of the gene showed that it is a nonessential gene for virus replication. In vivo safety and immunogenicity evaluation results demonstrate that the deletion mutant ASFV-GZΔI73R is completely nonpathogenic and provides effective protection to pigs against wild-type ASFV. These results reveal I73R as a virulence-related gene critical for ASFV pathogenesis and suggest that it is a potential target for virus attenuation. Accordingly, the deletion mutant ASFV-GZΔI73R can be a potent live-attenuated vaccine candidate.

Feline herpesvirus-1 (FHV-1) is the aetiological agent of feline viral rhinotracheitis, which accounts for approximately 50 % of all viral upper respiratory diseases in cats. Commercially available modified live vaccines containing FHV-1 are generally safe and effective, but these FHV-1 vaccines retain full virulence genes and can establish latency and reactivate to cause infectious rhinotracheitis in vaccine recipients, raising safety concerns. To address this shortcoming, we constructed a novel TK/gI/gE -gene-deleted recombinant FHV-1 (WH2020-ΔTK/gI/gE) through CRISPR/Cas9-mediated homologous recombination. The growth kinetics of WH2020-ΔTK/gI/gE were slightly delayed compared to those of the parent strain WH2020. Recombinant FHV-1 had severely impaired pathogenicity in cats. Felines immunized with WH2020-ΔTK/gI/gE produced high levels of gB-specific antibodies, neutralizing antibodies and IFN-ß. Additionally, WH2020-ΔTK/gI/gE provided greater protection against challenge with FHV-1 field strain WH2020 than did the commercial modified live vaccine. After challenge, the cats vaccinated with WH2020-ΔTK/gI/gE showed significantly fewer clinical signs, pathological changes, viral shedding, and viral loads in the lung and trigeminal ganglia than those vaccinated with the commercial vaccine or unvaccinated. Our results suggest that WH2020-ΔTK/gI/gE is a promising candidate as a safer and more efficacious live FHV-1 vaccine, with a decreased risk of vaccine-related complications, and could inform the design of other herpesvirus vaccines.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the efficacy of Baishao Luoshi decoction (, BD) on synaptic plasticity in rats with post stroke spasticity (PSS), and to study the mechanism behind the action. METHODS: The PSS model of rat was established by middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO). The neurological deficit symptoms were evaluated by modified neurological deficit score (mNSS). Muscle tension were evaluated by Modified Ashworth score (MAS). Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) was used to observe the synaptic ultrastructure. The expression of synaptic plasticity-related protein brain derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), growth associated protein-43 (GAP43), synaptophysin (p38) and microtubule-associated protein 2 (MAP2) in the brain tissue around the infarct were detected by Western blotting. RESULTS: We found that mNSS were significantly improved and limb spasticity was ameliorated treated by BD. The thickness of postsynaptic density and the synaptic curvature increased significantly. The expression of synaptic plasticity-related protein BDNF, GAP43, p38, MAP2 in the brain tissue around the infarct were raised remarkably after treated by BD. CONCLUSIONS: Alleviating PSS by BD may be related to rescuing the synaptic plasticity, which provides a probable new therapeutic method for PSS.

In the complex engineering applications of electromagnetic (EM) wave-absorbing materials, it is insufficient for these materials to exhibit only efficient EM wave attenuation ability. EM wave-absorbing materials featuring numerous multifunctional properties are increasingly attractive for next-generation wireless communication and smart devices. Herein, we constructed a lightweight and robust multifunctional hybrid aerogel consisting of carbon nanotubes/aramid nanofibers/polyimide with low shrinkage and high porosity. The hybrid aerogels exhibit excellent EM wave attenuation, with an effective absorption bandwidth covering the entire X-band from 25 °C to 400 °C. The conductive loss capacity of the hybrid aerogel is enhanced under thermal drive, which results in an enhanced ability to attenuate EM waves, as evidenced by the fact that the best-fit thickness drops from 5.3 to 3.6 mm with increasing temperature. In addition, the hybrid aerogels are capable to efficiently absorb sound waves, with an average absorption coefficient as high as 0.86 at 1-6.3 kHz, and they exhibit superior thermal insulation properties, with a thermal conductivity as low as 41 ± 2 mW/mK. They are thus suitable for applications in the anti-icing and infrared stealth fields. The prepared multifunctional aerogels have considerable potential for EM protection, noise reduction, and thermal insulation in harsh thermal environments.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the influence of group counselling on the career planning and career maturity of male nursing students. METHOD: Sixty male nursing students were randomly selected from a specific-level first-class hospital in Hunan Province from July to August 2020 by using the convenience sampling method and were subsequently divided into the control group and the experimental group using the random number table method. The control group received routine pre-job training, including aspects concerning the hospital profile, nurse etiquette, nursing core systems, professional ethics, nursing emergency treatment and career prospects and planning. In the experimental group, career planning group counselling was added after the regular pre-service training (once a week) with each session lasting 2 h for a total of six training sessions. At six weeks and three months after the intervention, the career status evaluation scale and the college students' career maturity scale were used to compare the career planning and career maturity status of the two groups of male nursing students. RESULTS: After six weeks and three months of intervention, all the dimensions and total scores of both the career status evaluation scale and the career maturity scale in the experimental group were superior to those in the control group with statistically significant differences (all P < 0.05). The repeated measures of variance analysis indicated that the differences in the total score for career planning and the four dimensions in terms of intergroup effect, time effect and interaction effect between the two groups were statistically significant (P < 0.05). The intergroup effect, time effect and interaction effect of the total score for vocational maturity, career goal, career confidence, career value, career freedom and career reference of the two groups were statistically significant (P < 0.05), while the time effect of the relative dependency dimension was also statistically significant (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Group counselling can significantly improve the career planning and career maturity status of male nursing students and has a certain long-term effect.

Background@#The common reference intervals (RIs) for thyroid hormones currently used in China are provided by equipment manufacturers. This study aimed to establish thyroid hormone RIs in the population of Lanzhou, a city in the subplateau region of northwest China, and compare them with previous reports and manufacturer-provided values. @*Methods@#In total, 3,123 individuals (1,680 men, 1,443 women) from Lanzhou, an iodine-adequate area of China, perceived as healthy were selected. The Abbott Architect analyzer was used to determine the serum concentration of thyroid hormones. The 95% RI was estimated using the 2.5th and 97.5th percentiles as the lower and upper reference limits, respectively. @*Results@#The serum levels of thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), total triiodothyronine (TT3), antithyroglobulin (ATG) antibody, and antithyroid peroxidase (ATPO) antibody levels were significantly correlated with sex (P0.05). The established RIs of TSH, ATG, and ATPO in this study differed between sexes (P<0.05). The thyroid hormone RIs established herein were inconsistent with the manufacturer-provided values. @*Conclusion@#The RIs of thyroid hormones in the healthy population of Lanzhou were inconsistent with those in the manufacturer’s manual. Validated sex-specific values are required for diagnosing thyroid diseases.
