NO-inhibiting and vasotropic activity of some compounds with thioamidine group.

Using the method of electron paramagnetic spectroscopy we demonstrated that thiazine-thiazoline compounds and aminoethyl isothiourea containing the thioamidine group inhibit NO production in the liver of endotoxin-treated mice. Injection of these agents to anesthetized rats increased arterial pressure and enhanced respiration rate. This effect probably reflects inhibition of not only inducible, but also the constitutive synthesis of NO by compounds with thioamidine group.

The article describes the measures against smoking in the former USSR. The authors stress an actual upgrade of antitobacco propaganda in many cities. Besides lectures and discussions different modern forms and methods of medical and educational influence are engaged: exhibition of children drawings on this theme, non-smoking days, antitobacco weeks, etc. A questioning of 5087 citizens of Moscow was carried out in order to study the spreading of smoking among the population. For example the number of smoking pupils of the 9-10th form is 22.7% among schoolboys, and 12.0% among schoolgirls. As for adult population: 64.5% of men and 21.6 of woman are smokers. The data which were obtained could be used for studying the efficiency of state program on prophylaxis and struggle against smoking.

Laboratory of healthy lifestyle formation among students conducted a survey, the object of the study being first-year students. The study was conducted in three higher educational institutions of pedagogical orientation in different regions of the country. Students' opinions and views were studied as well as their actual behaviour from the point of view of healthy lifestyle. Using sample survey 1187 students aged 17-19 were interviewed. It was indicated that notwithstanding the majority of students are well aware of negative health effects of alcohol and drug abuse, tobacco smoking, the necessity of physical activity, rational nutrition this knowledge is far from conviction and is of a declarative nature. The low level of health culture among students is being manifested both in the knowledge and in the behaviour which is in need of substantial correction. On the basis of findings and taking into account the specific character of students audience the laboratory has worked out and tested the new forms of influencing the audience which are included into the educational process.
