The paper presents the results of histological and electron microscopic studies of the tissues of the digestive system of the nematode Passalurus ambiguus (Rudolphi, 1819) after use of the anthelminthics albendazole, fenbendazole, and ivermectine. They demonstrate that albendazole and fenbendazole cause irreversible structural changes. Less pronounced destruction of different parts of the digestive system occurs after the use of ivermectine. All the drugs affect the mid-gut of Passalurus.

The paper presents the data on morphofunctional changes in some rabbit organs (the liver, kidney, intestine, lung, heart) invaded with the nematode Passalurus ambiguus. The most profound inflammatory and dystrophic changes were found in the cecum which was a site of helminths. The signs of vacuolar dystrophy were also observed in the hepatic and renal parenchyma. There was activation of the immune system and mobilization of overall compensatory responses of the animals.

The paper presents the results of studies of the effects of anthelminthic agents on the in tegumentary tissues of nematodes from the Oxyurata suborder. All used anthelmintics causes varying structural changes in the integumentary tissues of Oxyurata. At the same time, there is swelling and loosening of the cuticle, its detachment from the subcuticular layer, vacuolization of the hypodermis and the plasma part of muscular cells, as well as irreversible changes in the cellular organoids of the hypodermis and muscular cells (destruction of canals of the endoplasmic network and the Golgi apparatus, mitochondrial membrane damage, nuclear pyknosis or lysis etc.)

A family of plasmid expression vectors, containing fragments of the E. coli alkaline phosphatase gene (phoA), has been constructed for the lambda PR promoter-directed thermoinducible superproduction of fusions of heterologous polypeptides to the N- or C-terminus of E. coli alkaline phosphatase and its leader peptide. Effective expression and export to periplasm of resulting fusion proteins, which may retain enzymatic activity of the phosphatase, has been shown.

Functional expression in vitro of bovine visual rhodopsin.

Expression of functionally active bovine visual rhodopsin was achieved by sequential transcription and translation in vitro of rhodopsin gene cDNA with co-translational insertion of the protein into phosphatidylcholine liposomes. The recombinant rhodopsin has functional, spectral and immunochemical properties similar to those of natural rhodopsin from bovine retina. Two mutant rhodopsins, Cys316----Ser and Asp330----Asn, Asp331----Asn, were produced by oligonucleotide-directed mutagenesis. The first mutation does not affect rhodopsin's ability to stimulate transducin GTPase and visual cGMP phosphodiesterase activities, while the second double mutation leads to a sharp decrease in rhodopsin activity.

Functional expression of bovine visual rhodopsin in the cell-free translation system with cotranslational insertion of the protein into phosphatidylcholine liposomes is described. The recombinant rhodopsin has spectral and functional properties similar to those of natural rhodopsin from bovine retina. Two mutant rhodopsins with amino acid substitutions in the hydrophilic C-terminal domain were obtained using oligonucleotide-directed mutagenesis. It was found that substitution Cys-316----Ser does not affect rhodopsin's ability to activate the visual amplification cascade, whereas double mutation Asp-330----Asn, Asp-331----Asn dramatically lowers the rhodopsin functional activity.
