RESUMEN

The integration of renewable energy resources into the smart grids improves the system resilience, provide sustainable demand-generation balance, and produces clean electricity with minimal leakage currents. However, the renewable sources are intermittent in nature. Therefore, it is necessary to develop scheduling strategy to optimise hybrid PV-wind-controllable distributed generator based Microgrids in grid-connected and stand-alone modes of operation. In this manuscript, a priority-based cost optimization function is developed to show the relative significance of one cost component over another for the optimal operation of the Microgrid. The uncertainties associated with various intermittent parameters in Microgrid have also been introduced in the proposed scheduling methodology. The objective function includes the operating cost of CDGs, the emission cost associated with CDGs, the battery cost, the cost of grid energy exchange, and the cost associated with load shedding. A penalty function is also incorporated in the cost function for violations of any constraints. Multiple scenarios are generated using Monte Carlo simulation to model uncertain parameters of Microgrid (MG). These scenarios consist of the worst as well as the best possible cases, reflecting the microgrid's real-time operation. Furthermore, these scenarios are reduced by using a k-means clustering algorithm. The reduced procedures for uncertain parameters will be used to obtain the minimum cost of MG with the help of an optimisation algorithm. In this work, a meta-heuristic approach, grey wolf optimisation (GWO), is used to minimize the developed cost optimisation function of MG. The standard LV Microgrid CIGRE test network is used to validate the proposed methodology. Results are obtained for different cases by considering different priorities to the sub-objectives using GWO algorithm. The obtained results are compared with the results of Jaya and PSO (particle swarm optimization) algorithms to validate the efficacy of the GWO method for the proposed optimization problem.

RESUMEN

Decision makers consistently face the challenge of simultaneously assessing numerous attributes, determining their respective importance, and selecting an appropriate method for calculating their weights. This article addresses the problem of automatic generation control (AGC) in a two area power system (2-APS) by proposing fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (FAHP), an multi-attribute decision-making (MADM) technique, to determine weights for sub-objective functions. The integral-time-absolute-errors (ITAE) of tie-line power fluctuation, frequency deviations and area control errors, are defined as the sub-objectives. Each of these is given a weight by the FAHP method, which then combines them into an single final objective function. This objective function is then used to design a PID controller. To improve the optimization of the objective function, the Jaya optimization algorithm (JOA) is used in conjunction with other optimization techniques such as sine cosine algorithm (SCA), Luus-Jaakola algorithm (LJA), Nelder-Mead simplex algorithm (NMSA), symbiotic organism search algorithm (SOSA) and elephant herding optimization algorithm (EHOA). Six distinct experimental cases are conducted to evaluate the controller's performance under various load conditions, with data plotted to show responses corresponding to fluctuations in frequency and tie-line exchange. Furthermore, statistical analysis is performed to gain a better understanding of the effectiveness of the JOA-based PID controller. For non-parametric evaluation, Friedman rank test is also used to validate the performance of the proposed JOA-based controller.

RESUMEN

Multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) presents a significant challenge in decision-making processes, aiming to ascertain optimal choice by considering multiple criteria. This paper proposes rank order centroid (ROC) method, MCDM technique, to determine weights for sub-objective functions, specifically, addressing issue of automatic generation control (AGC) within two area interconnected power system (TAIPS). The sub-objective functions include integral time absolute errors (ITAE) for frequency deviations and control errors in both areas, along with ITAE of fluctuation in tie-line power. These are integrated into an overall objective function, with ROC method systematically assigning weights to each sub-objective. Subsequently, a PID controller is designed based on this objective function. To further optimize objective function, Jaya optimization algorithm (JOA) is implemented, alongside other optimization algorithms such as teacher-learner based optimization algorithm (TLBOA), Luus-Jaakola algorithm (LJA), Nelder-Mead simplex algorithm (NMSA), elephant herding optimization algorithm (EHOA), and differential evolution algorithm (DEA). Six distinct case analyses are conducted to evaluate controller's performance under various load conditions, plotting data to illustrate responses to frequency and tie-line exchange fluctuations. Additionally, statistical analysis is performed to provide further insights into efficacy of JOA-based PID controller. Furthermore, to prove the efficacy of JOA-based proposed controller through non-parametric test, Friedman rank test is utilized.

RESUMEN

We report on newly developed nuclear shielding glass system based on lead-tungsten-boron (PWB) for radiation applications against photon, neutron and charge particles. This newly developed system contains also different additions, in low concentrations, such as Sb, Al and Bi. The gamma/photon shielding performance was tested by using FLUKA Monte Carlo. Moreover, the shielding efficiency of the present system is examined against charged particles (light and heavy ones) and neutrons. The highest gamma/photons attenuation is observed in the lowest incident energy and this is at the region of the photoelectric absorption. We also observe that the values of effective atomic number (Zeff) show a peak at 100 keV incident energy. The reduction of these values is higher for photon energy range 0.1-1 MeV than below 80 keV energies. The lowest half value layer (d1/2), reflecting the best shielding efficiency, is recorded for the PWB-Bi system. The PWB-Bi system demonstrates promising performance better than many of commercial and standard systems and heavy concretes.

RESUMEN

This experimental approach was designed to understand the gamma interaction parameters for the essential biomolecules, including starch soluble, cholesterol, myristic acid, glucose, oxalic acid, dextrose, salicylic acid, ethyl cellulose and sucrose. The empirical determination of gamma interaction parameters, such as interaction mean-free-path (MFP), buildup factor, and effective atomic number (Zeff) was performed by measuring mass attenuation coefficient (µ/ρ) at energies of 356 keV, 511 keV, 662 keV, 1173 keV, 1275 keV and 1332 keV. This was achieved using weak radioactive sources and a NaI(Tl) scintillation spectrometer with collimated and non-collimated transmission geometry. The experimentally determined values of gamma-ray interaction parameters were obtained non-destructively and precisely agreeing with the expected values from simulations and codes. In addition, the research findings also revealed a novel trend in gamma interaction mean free path as a function of energy and variable buildup factors for the selected biomolecules. These research findings provide valuable insight into the process of gamma radiation interaction. This approach may fulfil the increasing demand of medical, technical and academic research laboratories for a cost-effective and reliable empirical methodology to understand gamma radiation interaction with matter.

RESUMEN

The mass attenuation coefficient (MAC), effective atomic number (Zeff), equivalent atomic number (Zeq), fast neutron removal cross-section (FNRCS), energy absorption buildup factor (EABF), mass-energy absorption coefficient (MenAC), relative kerma, and computed tomography (CT) numbers were calculated for the alginates, bisphenol A-glycidyl methacrylate (Bis-GMA), chitin, hyaluronic acid, polycaprolactone (PCL), polyether ether ketone (PEEK), polyethylene glycol (PEG), polyglycolide (PGA), polylactic acid (PLA), poly lacto-co-glycolic acid (PLGA), poly methyl methacrylate (PMMA), poly vinyl alcohol (PVA), polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), triethylene glycol dimethacrylate (TEGDMA), and urethane dimethacrylate (UDMA) polymers using the Phy-X/PSD and Py-MLBUF software. The total stopping power (TSP) of electrons, protons, and alpha particles was calculated for the selected polymers using the ESTAR, PSTAR, and ASTAR programs. The effective atomic number for absorption and charged particle (electron, proton, alpha, and carbon ion) interactions were estimated for the selected polymers using Phy-X/ZeXTRa software. The FNRCS values of Bis-GMA, PCL, PEG, PMMA, and PVP were similar to those of the human tissues. For the selected polymers, the Zeff values for electron, proton, alpha, and carbon ion interactions of PCL, PEG, PLGA, and PVA were similar to those of human tissues, except for the cortical bone, across the entire energy range. These results are expected to assist in selecting suitable polymers as tissue-equivalent materials in the desired energy range for photon, neutron, and charged-particle interactions. This study is expected to be useful for radiation therapy and dosimetry.

RESUMEN

Introduction: Metastatic gallbladder cancer (GBC) is a highly fatal malignancy and it is difficult to treat the advanced stage of GBC. In India, northern and northeastern states are the worst affected by this disease. We, hereby, report the clinicoepidemiological and management profile of 242 patients of metastatic carcinoma of GB. Materials and Methods: In this study, a total of 242 cases of metastatic GBC (detected either on the first presentation or during follow-up) were managed at the Department of Medical Oncology tertiary care oncology center in the northeast part of India from May 2018 to September 2019. On presentation, all patients were subjected to detailed history and clinical examination, followed by requisite investigations and were treated as per the existent guidelines. Results: One-hundred and forty-two patients were female, while 100 patients were male out of 242 patients. Female patients with metastatic GBC presented with the mean age of 54, while for males, 51.4 years. The most common presentation was pain abdomen (81.8%), while the second most common was anorexia (77.2%), followed by weight loss (62.8%) and mass per abdomen (60.7%). The most common site of metastasis recorded in our study was the liver (79.7%), followed by nonregional abdominal lymph node (69.4%) and ascites (64.4%). Out of the 242 patients, 24 patients had presented in poor Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group Performance Status (≥3) hence were deemed unfit for any oncological interventions. About 136 (56.1%) patients had presented with features of obstructive jaundice, however only 108 patients were subjected to biliary drainage procedure. After the biliary drainage procedures, only one-third (38 out of 136; 35.1%) of patients were finally able to receive chemotherapy. Conclusion: In India, unfortunately, many patients present very late during the course of their illness. There is a need for the development of effective chemotherapy or targeted therapy and also there is an unmet need for patients' education. There has been an increase in the incidence of this malignancy, especially in the Northeast part of India; hence, it is the need of the hour to study various epidemiological and causative factors of the disease. Furthermore, the development of therapies for the effective management of this malignancy is really required.

RESUMEN

The present study was undertaken to evaluate efficacy of turmeric and aloe vera extract in extending shelf life of goat milk paneer. The paneer was made by admixing goat milk and buffalo milk in the ratio of 60:40 so as to achieve a standard fat 4.5%. The treatment group, T1, was made by adding 5 mL/100 mL (v/v) of turmeric extract in heated milk before coagulation. Similarly, 5 mL/100 mL (v/v) aloe vera extract was added to heated milk for group T2 while T3 was prepared by adding both turmeric extract 5 mL/100 mL (v/v) and aloe vera extract 5 mL/100 mL (v/v), and the control was made without any additive. The extracts before incorporation were assessed for their antioxidant and antimicrobial potential by analysing total phenolic content, ABTS and DPPH percent inhibition and zone of inhibition. The developed paneer samples were evaluated for physico-chemical, oxidative and microbiological changes, and sensory attributes during storage at refrigeration temperature for ten days. The results revealed that paneer prepared with addition of extracts significantly (p < 0.05) suppressed physico-chemical deterioration. Significantly (p < 0.05) lower peroxide value, TBARS, FFA and microbial counts were noticed in T3 than T1, T2 and the control. The sensory attributes were also better (p < 0.05) maintained in T3 during storage. The results concluded that the combination of turmeric and aloe vera extract significantly improves the shelf life of paneer under refrigeration storage and these might be used as phyto-preservatives in paneer.

RESUMEN

Introduction The main objective of root canal treatment is to achieve apical seal. Crack formation during root-end preparation promotes bacterial penetration, thereby leading to failure. This systematic review aims to examine the literature and summarise studies that compare the crack formation induced by ultrasonic tips and burs during root-end preparation. Methods This systematic review and meta-analysis were reported and conducted according to the PRISMA guidelines. The online databases PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar were used for data search. In vitro and ex vivo studies conducted up to March 2021 in the English language were included in the review. The risk of bias in the present study was assessed using a customised tool. A random-effects model was used for meta-analysis, χ² values and I² values were used to assess statistical heterogeneity. Meta-analysis was performed using RevMan software Version 5.4.Results A total of 317 records were found from all of the databases and one article was added following hand-searching. Twelve articles were included in the study after the application of the eligibility criteria of which ten articles were included for the meta-analysis. Nine studies showed a medium risk of bias while three studies showed a high risk of bias. The analysis of the crack formation showed a statistically significant difference between the ultrasonic tip and the bur (P = 0.0002). The odds ratio was 2.72 (1.60, 4.65) with a confidence interval of 95% suggesting higher odds of crack formation in the ultrasonic group. Conclusion This review concludes that ultrasonic root-end preparation resulted in higher crack formation than burs.

RESUMEN

Purpose The aim of this systematic review was to evaluate the difference in shear bond strength between calcium silicate-based liners to resin-modified glass ionomer cement (RMGIC) in resin composite restorations.Materials and methods The protocol was registered in PROSPERO following which primary research was carried out on Medline, Scopus and Cochrane library. To assess the risk of bias, a customised tool was used. Among the 194 records retrieved from the databases, only ten articles qualified for qualitative and quantitative synthesis after meeting all the requirements of the eligibility criteria. Covidence software was used to record the decisions. Studies published until 31 March 2021 were taken up for the review. The articles showed a low-to-moderate risk of bias. I2 test was used to check the percentage variation due to heterogeneity. Results RMGIC showed a higher shear bond strength value compared to the three calcium silicate liners MTA, Biodentine and TheraCal LC. However, TheraCal LC and MTA showed better bond strength than Biodentine. Cohesive failure was seen predominantly in liners followed by adhesive failure. RMGIC shows mixed mode of failure in some studies. Conclusions RMGIC is preferred over calcium silicate-based materials as the liner to be used under resin composite restorations. Among calcium silicate-based materials, TheraCal LC showed a better bond strength value. The mode of failure was predominantly cohesive in all the liner groups in majority.

RESUMEN

We probe local phase fluctuations of trapped two-dimensional Bose gases using matter-wave interferometry. This enables us to measure the phase correlation function, which changes from an algebraic to an exponential decay when the system crosses the Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless (BKT) transition. We determine the temperature dependence of the BKT exponent η and find the critical value η_{c}=0.17(3) for our trapped system. Furthermore, we measure the local vortex density as a function of the local phase-space density, which shows a scale-invariant behavior across the transition. Our experimental investigation is supported by Monte Carlo simulations and provides a comprehensive understanding of the BKT transition in a trapped system.

RESUMEN

Predicting the groundwater level of karst aquifers in North China Coalfield is essential for early warning of mine water hazards and regional water resources management. However, the dynamic changes of strata structure and hydrogeological parameters driven by coal mining activity cause challenges to the process-oriented groundwater model. In order to achieve accurate prediction of groundwater level in large mining areas, this study was the first to use the data-driven Nonlinear Autoregressive with External Input (NARX) model to predict the groundwater level of six karst aquifer observation wells in Pingshuo Mining Area. Three variable input scenarios were set up, solely considering meteorological factors, anthropogenic disturbance factors, and considering both meteorological and anthropogenic disturbance factors. The novel partial mutual information (PMI) screening algorithm was adopted to determine optimized input variables in each scenario. The input and feedback delay coefficients of NARX model were determined by using Seasonal-trend Decomposition Procedure Based on Loess (STL) algorithm and auto- and cross-correlation functions. The results showed that PMI algorithm can effectively screen out the optimal input variables for predicting groundwater level, the NSE coefficients of the PMI-NARX models under the three scenarios were 38.81%, 4.26% and 41.46% higher than those of the corresponding control experiments, respectively. In addition, the prediction performance of the PMI-NARX built on the basis of meteorological factors is poor (NSE <0.63). However, in scenarios which solely use anthropogenic disturbance factors and both use meteorological and anthropogenic disturbance factors, the PMI-NARX coupling models exhibit good prediction performance (NSE and R2 are all greater than 0.8). Especially under solely considering anthropogenic disturbance factors scenario, the model still exhibited good prediction accuracy with a negligible number of input variables. The results can provide technical and theoretical support for the prediction of groundwater level in other mining areas.

RESUMEN

Chromium pollution in soils is a major threat as it reduces crop yields. Hence, researchers seek methods/strategies which could curtail such losses. We report the role of H2 S in alleviating hexavalent chromium [Cr(VI)] stress in two cereals crops, i.e. wheat and rice seedlings, by estimating various physiological attributes. Cr(VI) reduced shoot and root length in both cereals through increased accumulation of Cr(VI) in root tips and increased in oxidative stress markers, i.e. superoxide radicals (SOR), H2 O2 and lipid peroxidation (as MDA equivalent). Supplementation with H2 S alleviated Cr(VI) toxicity in both cereal crops. Application of H2 S increased tolerance to Cr(VI) stress by protecting photosynthesis and enhancing activity of antioxidant enzymes, particularly glutathione-S-transferase and content of proline. Rice was more resistant to Cr(VI) than wheat seedlings.

RESUMEN

The accurate simulation of stomatal conductance is crucial for not only revealing the carbon and water cycle processes of an ecosystem, but also to improve the accuracy of simulations of evapotranspiration (ET). This study coupled three stomatal conductance models, i.e. the Stannard (ST), Jarvis-Stewart (JS), and Ball-Berry (BB) models, with the Shuttleworth-Wallace (SW) model to estimate ET for a mobile dune ecosystem in the Horqin Sandy Land, North China. These models were calibrated and validated using eddy covariance (EC) measurements taken during the growing season between 2013 and 2018. The results indicated that the SW-BB model showed better performance in comparison to the SW-JS and SW-ST models at half-hourly and daily timescales. The stomatal conductance models incorporating soil moisture (SM) content generally showed better performance during the extreme drought period, with the rank of the three models according to performance being: SW-BB > SW-JS > SW-ST. The models showed the highest sensitivity to SM when incorporating the effect of SM on stomatal conductance, indicating that SM has an important effect on stomatal conductance and ET. The results of this study indicate that of the models assessed, the Ball-Berry stomatal conductance model coupled with the SW model is optimal for estimating ET in dune ecosystems with sparse vegetation.

RESUMEN

Chromium toxicity to crops is a major scientific problem of the present time. Thus, scientific attempts have been made for reducing chromium toxicity to crop plants. In this study, we examined the potential of ethylene (ET, 25 µM) and hydrogen sulphide (H2 S, 10 µM) to alleviate hexavalent chromium [Cr(VI), 50 µM] stress in two pulse crops, black bean and mung bean, by assessing physiological and biochemical attributes. Cr(VI) reduced shoot and root length in black bean and mung bean in comparison to the control. Plants had increased accumulation of oxidative stress markers, i.e. superoxide radicals (SOR), hydrogen peroxide (H2 O2 ) and lipid peroxidation (as malondialdehyde, MDA). The addition of AVG (an inhibitor of ET biosynthesis) and PAG (an inhibitor of H2 S biosynthesis) to Cr(VI)-treated plants further increased Cr(VI) toxicity, suggesting their endogenous levels are important for tolerating Cr(VI) toxicity. However, supplementation with either ET or H2 S alleviated Cr(VI) toxicity. Interestingly, ET did not rescue negative effects of PAG under Cr(VI) stress but NaHS rescued negative effect of AVG. Overall, results indicate that, although both ET and H2 S alleviate Cr(VI) stress, endogenous H2 S is better. Furthermore, H2 S appears to be a downstream signal for ET in alleviating Cr(VI) stress in these two pulse crops.

RESUMEN

Acquired meatal stenosis is a difficult entity to treat with a significant recurrence rate. It is normally approached posteriorly via post aural approach and reconstructed using split thickness skin graft. We are presenting a novel method of surgery for acquired meatal stenosis using a pre auricular flap via endaural approach only. The aim was to evaluate the success rate of using a pre auricular flap in acquired atresia of the external auditory canal using the endaural approach. Twenty patients with acquired atresia of the external auditory canal that was surgically treated were retrospectively studied from July 2012 to July 2018. All cases were done using endaural approach only. During the surgery, the atretic tissue was removed, wide canaloplasty done and the stenotic segment widened. Reconstruction of the external auditory canal was done using a pedicled anteriorly based pre auricular flap rotating it into the external auditory canal to cover the bare bone. Of the 20 patrients there were good results in 18 patients with restenosis occurring only in 2 patients. However, a skin tag developed in 2 other patients which was excsiced as OPD procedure and patient was asymptomatic on further follow ups. In all the 20 cases preauricular flap was used for reconstruction along with use of Split thickness skin graft in 10 cases. All 20 cases were operated via endaural route only. Use of a Preauricular flap in surgical treatment of acquired aural stenosis gives good results with a wide dry cavity as the flap is pedicled with its vascular supply and it can be tailor made according to each case and requirement.

RESUMEN

Tonsillectomy is one of the most commonly performed surgical procedure in otolaryngology especially in children. This is an age old procedure which has seen continuous changes in the surgical technique from guillotine method to snare technique to coblation tonsillectomy, and is still evolving day by day. But there are no consensus as to which technique is the best or most appropriate for tonsillectomy. The objective of this study is to compare three different surgical techniques of tonsillectomy namely the Cold dissection snare technique (CDST), Bipolar electro-dissection technique (BEDT) and Harmonic scalpel technique (HST) and to identify the method which is safe, with less operative time, which offers decreased intra-operative blood loss and with lowest post-operative morbidity and complications. This prospective and comparative study was conducted over a time duration of 1 year 6 months from January 2018 to July 2019 after the approval from ethical committee. Total 150 cases of tonsillectomy were done by dividing into three groups of 50 cases each. The study showed maximum cases of tonsillitis in the age group less than 10 years and the most common indication for tonsillectomy being chronic recurrent tonsillitis. Harmonic scalpel technique (HST) had least operative time, least intra-operative blood loss, took minimum time for resumption of normal diet and normal activity and also had least pain score on post-operative day 1st, 5th, 10th and 15th. STATISTICS: Kruskall-Wallis and the non-parametric Analysis of variance (ANOVA) tests were applied to determine statistically significant variances. All the differences are found to be significant P < 0.05. Harmonic Scalpel Technique (HST) is the latest technique as it is associated with quicker procedure, less intraoperative blood loss and less post-operative pain.

RESUMEN

Understanding the physiological mechanism of tolerance under stress conditions is an imperative aspect of the crop improvement programme. The role of plant hormones is well-established in abiotic stress tolerance. However, the information on the role of gibberellic acid (GA) in abiotic stress tolerance in late sown wheat is still not thoroughly explored. Thus, we aimed to investigate the role of endogenous GA3 level in stress tolerance in contrasting wheat cultivars, viz., temperature-tolerant (HD 2643 and DBW 14) and susceptible (HD 2189 and HD 2833) cultivars under timely and late sown conditions. We created the variation in endogenous GA3 level by exogenous spray of GA3 and its biosynthesis inhibitor paclobutrazol (PBZ). Tolerant genotypes had higher antioxidant enzyme activity, membrane stability, and photosynthesis rate, lower lipid peroxidase activity, and better growth and yield traits under late sown conditions attributed to H2O2 content. Application of PBZ escalated antioxidant enzymes activity and photosynthesis rate, and reduced the lipid peroxidation and ion leakage in stress, leading to improved thermotolerance. GA3 had a non-significant effect on antioxidant enzyme activity, lipid peroxidation, and membrane stability. However, GA3 application increased the test weight in HD 2643 and HD 2833 under timely and late sown conditions. GA3 upregulated GA biosynthesis and degradation pathway genes, and PBZ downregulated kaurene oxidase and GA2ox gene expression. GA3 also upregulated the expression of the cell expansins gene under both timely and late sown conditions. Exogenous GA3 did not increase thermotolerance but positively affected test weight and cell expansins gene expression. No direct relationship existed between endogenous GA3 content and stress tolerance traits, indicating that PBZ could have conferred thermotolerance through an alternative mechanism instead of inhibiting GA3biosynthesis.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVES: This systematic review was designed to measure the pooled prevalence of morphological variations in the root canal of permanent incisors and canines among Asian adults. METHODS: An electronic search was conducted in the PubMed, Scopus, and EBSCO databases, and relevant studies were included. Studies reporting on the Vertucci canal configuration (types I to VIII) were included. A weighted proportion (pooled prevalence) with 95% confidence interval was calculated for each canal type, and the outcome was stratified based on country, technique of assessment, gender, and age. RESULTS: Sixty articles were included in the final review. In all types of maxillary anterior teeth, the pooled prevalence of type I canal configuration was greater than 97%, whereas mandibular central incisor, lateral incisor, and canines had a prevalence of 78.4%, 69.2%, and 91.1%, respectively. Studies considering mandibular anterior teeth as a single entity had a lower prevalence of type I configuration (70.1%). Variations in root canal configurations were also observed between countries. Among gender, males had a significantly lower prevalence of type I and a higher prevalence of type II and III canal configurations in the mandibular anterior teeth. A variation in canal types was also noted with advancing age, with younger age groups showing more variations. CONCLUSION: The majority of maxillary and mandibular anterior teeth have type I Vertucci canal configuration, but variations in mandibular anterior teeth, especially lateral incisors, are also common. Variations were also observed among population, gender, age, and prevalence based on the diagnostic techniques used.
