RESUMEN
A Educação Popular em Saúde (EPS) é referência para as práticas educativas no Sistema Único de Saúde, por sua convergência com o ideário de integralidade, participação popular e promoção da saúde. O objetivo deste artigo é apresentar uma revisão bibliográfica sobre princípios teórico-metodológicos das ações educativas em saúde com idosos, procurando identificar princípios da EPS e refletir sobre sua contribuição às práticas. A pesquisa foi realizada nas bases Scielo e Lilacs e em periódicos selecionados, no período de 2000 a 2010. Os resultados mostram que a EPS se destaca como referencial e que alguns de seus princípios estão presentes em outras abordagens. Metodologia participativa, concepção holística de saúde e afirmação de sujeitos e afetividade foram os mais recorrentes. É necessário debater e avaliar as ações educativas em grupos de idosos a partir da perspectiva transformadora da EPS, para que sejam continuamente qualificadas no enfrentamento dos desafios do envelhecer na sociedade atual.
Popular Education on Health (PEH), a model of Health Education inspired in Critical Pedagogy, is a reference to Health Education in the Brazilian National Health System through its convergence with the ideals of integrality, popular participation, and health promotion. The aim of this article is to present a review of the literature on the theoretical and methodological principles of health education for the elderly, seeking to identify principles of PEH, and to reflect on their contribution to practice. This research was conducted through the Scielo and Lilacs databases, and selected scientific journals, in the period from the year 2000 to 2010. The results show that PEH stands out as a reference and that some of its principles are present in other approaches. A participative methodology, an holistic concept of health, and individual affirmation and affection were the most frequent. It is necessary to discuss and to evaluate the health education actions in groups of elderly people from the transformative perspective of PEH, to sustain their qualifications to face the challenges of aging in contemporary society.
