[Bilateral peritonsillar abscess with lymph node abscess in a infant. A rare case]. / Beidseitiger Paratonsillarabszess mit Lymphknotenabszedierung bei einem Säugling. Ein seltener Fall.

Peritonsillar abscess (PTA) comprises approximately 30% of soft tissue head and neck abscesses. Bilateral occurrence in infants is rare. The present case demonstrates a bilateral peritonsillar abscess with a lymph node abscess in a 10.5-month-old infant without the typical clinical findings of PTA. This report highlights the importance of including peritonsillar abscesses in the differential diagnosis of abscess-forming cases of lymphadenitis colli refractory to therapy, even if the classical symptoms are absent. In individual cases, the indication for image-guided procedures to establish the diagnosis of PTA should be made generously.

[Major aspects of direct fetal electrocardiography with regard to the diagnosis of intrauterine fetal status]. / Prinzipielle Aspekte der direkten fetalen Elektrokardiographie im Hinblick auf die intrauterine fetale Zustandsdiagnostik.

The possibilities and limits of direct fetal electrocardiography are described, which result from the estimation and interpretation of only one ECG lead in the diagnostics of disorders in excitation development, conduction and repolarisation and in the as early as possible detection of heart defects.

The authors discuss special aspects concerning children and traffic accidents, prompted by the frequency of such accidents. They present a model of the pathogenesis of closed injuries of the ureter. On the basis of the mechanics of accidents and clinical experience, closed subpelvic rupture of the ureter is to be seen as the result of a deceleration trauma. Problems of the treatment of patients with multiple injuries and the diagnosis and therapy of closed injuries of the ureter are presented on the basis of a clinical observation.

[Behavior of serum concentrations of immunoglobulins G, M and A in the 1st week of illness in children with bacterial and viral diseases]. / Untersuchungen über das Verhalten der Serumkonzentrationen der Immunglobuline G, M und A in der ersten Krankheitswoche bei Kindern mit bakteriell und viral bedingten Erkrankungen.

The serum concentrations of the immune globulins in children with acute infection of the upper respiratory tract, angina lacunaris, mumps and acute infection of the urinary tract within the first week of illness were analysed. In the adequate age group the values (altogether 540) of healthy and diseased children were confronted and statistically compared. Here the following characteristic changes were shown: the acute infection of the upper respiratory tract was characterized by an increase of IgG. In mumps a decrease of IgA was stated. As to the infections of the urinary tract in the younger age group an increase of IgM existed, in the older age group a decrease of IgA. The results refer to the dynamics of the immune globulins in the initial phase of the individual diseases.
