RESUMEN

Purpose: To evaluate short-term effectiveness and safety of computed tomography (CT)-guided radioactive iodine-125 (125I) seed implantation (CTRISI) for treating adrenal metastases. Material and methods: A total of 50 consecutive patients with adrenal metastases were enrolled retrospectively. Among them, 18 patients received CTRISI, and 18 received 3D-conformal radiotherapy (3D-CRT) treatment. The remaining 14 patients without any treatments served as a control group. Follow-up CT was performed at 6 weeks, 3 months, and 6 months after treatment. Tumor responses and complications were evaluated. Results: At 6 weeks, control rate in control group (complete response [CR] + partial response [PR]) was 0, and in the CTRISI group (CR + PR, 84.41%), it was significantly higher than that in the 3D-CRT group (CR + PR, 44.44%). Local control rates with CTRISI at 3 and 6 months were 68.42% and 57.89%, respectively. No severe complications were observed after CTRISI. Conclusions: CTRISI is an effective and safe method for short-term treatment of adrenal metastases. Our findings suggest that CTRISI can safely and effectively be used for adrenal metastases patients as short-term treatment. Further survival studies with longer follow-up are warranted to validate our results.

RESUMEN

The purpose of this article was to probe the mechanism underlying long noncoding RNA (lncRNA)-LINC00184 in cholangiocarcinoma development and to investigate the effects of LINC00184 on cholangiocarcinoma. We used bioinformatics to analyze the expression of LINC00184, microRNA (miR)-23b-3p and ANXA2 in cholangiocarcinoma tissues. The levels of LINC00184, miR-23b-3p, and ANXA2 were detected by qRT-PCR. Cell proliferation was tested by CCK8. Transwell assay was used to detect cell invasion and migration. The target connection between LINC00184, miR-23b-3p, or ANXA2 was probed by luciferase reporter assay. RNA pull-down method was employed to test the relationship among LINC00184/miR-23b-3p/ANXA2 in cholangiocarcinoma cells. The Pearson correlation coefficient analyzed was applied to analyze the correlation among LINC00184, miR-23b-3p, and ANXA2. LC-MS/M analysis was used to explore whether the changes of adenine metabolism was affected by LINC00184 in cholangiocarcinoma cells. We discovered that LINC00184 expression was heightened in cholangiocarcinoma patients and cells. Knockdown of LINC00184 repressed cell proliferation, invasion, migration and adenine metabolism in cholangiocarcinoma cells. miR-23b-3p was regarded as a target of LINC00184 and its depletion perversed the inhibitive influence of LINC00184 silencing on cholangiocarcinoma cells. ANXA2 was a target of miR-23b-3p and was negatively modulated by miR-23b-3p. Moreover, ANXA2 was positively modulated by LINC00184 via sponging miR-23b-3p. In short, silencing of LINC00184 suppressed cell proliferation, invasion and migration through over-expression of miR-23b-3p and reducing of ANXA2 in cholangiocarcinoma cells. These findings contribute to understanding the influences of LINC00184, miR-23b-3p, and ANXA2 on cholangiocarcinoma and provide basis for cholangiocarcinoma treatment.

RESUMEN

AIM: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of the endovascular implantation of 125I seed under ultrasound and x-ray guidance combined with transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients with portal vein tumor thrombosis (PVTT). PATIENTS & METHODS: The study included 134 pathologically proven or clinically confirmed primary HCC patients with PVTT in our hospital from January 2013 to June 2015. RESULTS & CONCLUSION: Compared with the TACE treatment alone, the combination therapy of 125I seed implantation with TACE significantly prolonged the median survival time and improved the 6-, 12- and 18-month survival rates for HCC patients with PVTT. In addition, the type III PVTT and tumor size were independent predictors for poor prognosis of HCC patients with PVTT.

RESUMEN

The associations between programmed cell death ligand 1 (PD-L1) and the prognosis of various cancers have always been a research topic of considerable interest. However, the prognostic value of PD-L1 in breast cancer patients remains a controversial subject. We aimed to assess the association between PD-L1 protein expression and clinicopathological features and the impact of this relationship on breast cancer survival. We performed a systematic search of the PubMed, EMBASE, and Cochrane Library databases to determine the correlations among PD-L1 expression, clinicopathological features and overall survival (OS). A total of 5 studies containing 2,546 cases were included in the analysis. The combined hazard ratio (HR) and its 95% confidence interval (CI) for OS were 1.76 (95% CI 1.09-2.82; P=0.02) for patients with tumors exhibiting PD-L1 overexpression. The pooled odds ratios (ORs) indicated that PD-L1 expression was associated with positive lymph node metastasis, higher histological grades, estrogen receptor (ER)-negativity, and triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). Our findings indicate that PD-L1 expression is a promising biomarker for the prognosis of breast cancer, and may be helpful to clinicians aiming to select the appropriate immunotherapy for breast cancer.
