RESUMEN

A patient with rare primary lymphoma of the testis is presented. Several investigators have reported the prognosis in the majority of patients was associated with a poor outcome. In our case poor prognostic factors and the presence of many symptoms, such as fever, night sweets or weight loss significant influenced on the prognosis and the length of disease free-survival in patient with testicular lymphoma.

RESUMEN

The clinical data of 91 patients with bone metastases were reviewed. The renal cell carcinoma and prostatic carcinoma were diagnosed respectively in 53% and 47% of the patients. 48% of the patients had tumour size stage T3 and 71% had histopathological stage II (G2). 21% of the patients presented a bone pain. In patients with renal cell carcinoma, the level of serum bone alkaline phosphatase and erythrocyte sedimentation rate were correlated with the concentration of serum ferritin (respectively p = 0.008 and p = 0.055). The relationship between the histopathological grade (G) and the stage of tumour size (T), and the concentration of serum ferritin was noted. In patients with prostatic carcinoma, the relationship between general condition and the concentration of prostatic specific antigen (PSA) as well as the relationship between PSA and the intensity of bone pain were observed. Only relationship between the histopathological grade and the concentration of PSA had a statistical significance (p < 0.05).

RESUMEN

A patient with a rare primary lymphoma of the prostate is presented. Clinical symptoms may be a reason of mistake, that are highly suggestive of benign prostatic hyperplasia or prostatic adenocarcinoma. Before treatment all patients should have to determined the histopathological diagnosis (made by prostatic biopsy or by prostatectomy) because treatment of patients with primary non-Hodgkin's lymphoma of the prostate is quite different then treatment of patients with prostatic adenocarcinoma. After treatment with combination chemotherapy appropriate for the clinical stage and the specific histological subtype our patient achieved a complete remission and remained free of disease after twelve months.

RESUMEN

Occurrence malignant tumor in only one functional kidney (second one was small and cirrhotic with a large cyst) and potentiality of treatment with selective embolization of renal artery were cause of that report. Patient achieved a long and comfortable term of survival (without any troubles). We suggest that method is useful and safe for such cases.

RESUMEN

A case of a 22-year patient with Wilms tumor is presented due to its rarity in adults. Moreover, the tumor coexisted with pregnancy making both diagnosis and therapy difficult. An intensive combined therapy (surgical, radio- and chemotherapy) has led to the complete and long-lasting remission.

RESUMEN

The epidemiological data is presented on morbidity, mortality, and dependence of these indices on the age of the patient with prostatic cancer in Poland and in the world. The unquestionable risk factors included age and race, while the remaining risk factors for the development of this malignancy are presently the subject of controversy and are being studied further.

RESUMEN

Sixty-seven patients were subjected to a retrospective analysis, who had been referred to the Department of Urology with suspected testicular malignancy. In every patient history was taken carefully with special attention paid to lacking testicular descensus in the past, testicular enlargement, pain, symptoms related to metastases, duration of symptoms until the beginning of appropriate treatment, the type of treatment, they had obtained before admission to the department. It was found that the most common symptom was painless testicular enlargement (82% of patients). However, there was a very long time between noting of the change by the patient and the beginning of appropriate treatment (on the average about 7.8 months).

RESUMEN

A case of penile cancer was observed in a 20-year-old patient with very extensive remote metastases. On autopsy metastases were found to the heart and brain which are exceptionally rare in penile cancer.

RESUMEN

Among the organ involvements complicating acute leukaemias infiltrations in the visual organ are less frequent. A case is described of acute medullary leukaemia in an adult with exudate in the anterior chamber and infiltrations in the conjunctiva of the eyeball and eyelids. Chemotherapy and local radiotherapy controlled these complications.

RESUMEN

Serum and BAL CEA levels were determined in stage I (WHO scale) lung cancer patients. The immuno-enzyme assay for the quantitative determination of CEA according to enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) principle was used. Eight smokers without symptoms of respiratory disease served as a control group. The CEA levels were also determined in 48 patients with chronic bronchitis to evaluate the influence the role of the inflammatory processes of the respiratory tract in producing CAE. All determined serum, and BAL fluid CEA levels were related to total protein and albumin for comparison of both media. It was shown that the BAL fluid CEA levels in lung cancer patients exceeded 10-fold the control levels, and twice fold the levels found in chronic bronchitis. It must be emphasized that serum levels were within normal limits in all analysed groups. The concentration of CEA expressed as ratio to total protein and albumin supported a diagnostic usefulness of CEA in BAL and indicated a slight modification of it by inflammatory process.

RESUMEN

Sixty patients with advanced squamous cell lung carcinoma were entered in a study comparing the effectiveness of BACON and CAP combination chemotherapy. The CAP regimen was superior to the BACON regimen in response rate (50% vs 33%), median survival time (36 vs 24 weeks), and median time to progression (25 vs 16 weeks). Median survival time for responders was longer in both treated groups than for nonresponders. Side effects were significant, but generally reversible. This study seems to indicate a role for the CAP combination (cyclophosphamide, adriamycin, cisplatinum) as treatment for patients with squamous cell lung carcinoma.
